Chapter 50: Annabeth
We had another burning ceremony for Luke.
It was the second time he has killed himself.
The second time that he's saved the world.
All he wanted was his mom.
He was a Lost Boy.
I leaned onto Percy as we sat in his bed that night. The beating heart in his chest was the only reassurance that I was still alive. That everything did happen.
I am Annabeth Chase.
I have been to Tartarus and back.
I have been to the underworld twice and came back both times alive.
Now I had to survive this war just like the last one.
"What are you thinking about?" Percy murmured while kissing my hair.
"The war. What's our plan Percy. We don't have a plan."
"We didn't have a plan the last war either."
"That whole war was written into that prophecy. But this one? Two parts of this one have already been solved."
"Three."
"What?"
"An oath to keep one's final breath. I promised I would never leave you. But I did and then I lost you. Forever I thought. But now you're here in my arms and I'm not sure how to react."
"Gee seaweed brain you could at least try to be happy I'm here." I tried joking.
But Percy didn't laugh.
I understood why.
My death has put him through an experience he never wanted to experience. He's scarred for life because he saw my lifeless body. He's broken and even if I'm back, nothing will ever be the same.
Gaea has changed everything. She's changed our lives dramatically. And I was sick of it. I was sick of all the games. I wanted this to end.
I stood up and started pacing the room.
"Please don't pace. It gives me a headache following you."
"Well then don't look at me."
"I can't. My eyes are like moths to light when it comes to your beauty."
I stopped and looked at him.
"Cheesy. But it's good that you're a fighter and that you're handsome."
"What are you thinking about?"
"To storm or fire the world must fall. Storm would be you or Jason and Fire would be Leo."
"I know we've all been over this."
"Actually we haven't. Everytime we think about it, we see one of your three destroying the world into ashes. But all prophecies have a double meaning. What if the world in this case means Gaea because Gaea is the goddess of the Earth and the earth is what we always put in terms 'the world'. Percy that means either you, Jason, or Leo have to destroy Gaea."
"Alone? I mean Annabeth we can't even destroy one of her children without one of our parents help. How are we supposed to destroy Gaea all on our own."
I sighed. Percy had a point. He couldn't just do it alone.
This was frustrating. There were no leads in this war. At least with the Titan war we just had to focus on Luke's past to break him.
The door opened and Nico came into the room.
"The gods. They want to have a meeting of some sort. I guess to figure out battle plans."
"There isn't much to figure out. We work together and kill the giants and we keep doing that until Gaea comes." Percy said.
"I know Percy but they're the gods. The want to feel like their the dominant figures in this situation."
Percy and I followed Nico to the throne room. He looked exhausted like he hasn't slept for days.
"Nico you should rest." I offered.
"What? No."
"Just go. We'll fill you in. You won't be able to function anyways."
"Yeah ok."
Percy and I walked in silence to the main hall. These was so much to be said between us but we just couldn't say it. It's like we're in that awkward stage where you lost a best friend and now you guys are talking again but it's just not the same. We were so happy to be together again, but at the same time we didn't know what to expect now.
The first thing that happened when we got to the great hall was the collective gasps from the gods.
"Annabeth? You're alive?" My mother spoke.
I wasn't sure how to feel about this and I'm pretty sure she didn't either. I was her favorite child and yet before I died we weren't on speaking terms. She wasn't sure if she should be happy or confused to my return. Being a regular mother she should rejoice. But she isn't regular. She's the goddess of wisdom and it's no doubt that she's calculating what my return brings to the outcome of the war.
"Another work of Hades?" Zeus inquired.
"No sir. Luke. Luke Callestan. Together, he and I chose rebirth but Luke altered it. I thought he changed but he didn't." I said bitterly.
"It's not entirely true." Percy spoke up. "Luke never wanted to be evil. It's just we all know how manipulative Kronos was and how even more Gaea can be. All he wanted was a normal mother and he blamed the gods for bringing that fate upon his mother. A mother that cannot care for her only son and love him. He killed himself shortly before he was about to kill Annabeth and I."
"Luke does realize that because he committed suicide he will not be going back to Elysium does he not?" Poseidon said.
"Yes. He does realize that. But that's the point. He doesn't want to live in a world without his mother. And going to Elysium won't help him forget." Thalia said.
It took me a moment to realize Percy and I weren't the only demigods in this room. All the seven were here. Including Grover and Calypso?
"Very well. Now we must speak of this child of Atlas. What are we to do to her?" Zeus asked.
Before Leo could protest Percy spoke up.
"First of all. The only thing you will be doing for Calypso is either letting her stay and fight or send her to Camp Half-Blood. She's proved to be good and she is not our enemy. She supported her father in the first Titan war because he was her family just like us demigods supported you Olympians even though most of those demigods didn't even know who their mom or dad was. Besides you broke my wish. I asked you to free Calypso and all other children of the titans that have done nothing wrong and you ignored me. Calypso stays whether you like it or not." Percy finished.
The room was silent and you could feel the anger radiating off of Zeus and Percy. Finally Zeus sighed and decided to send her to Camp Half Blood where she would be waiting for Leo.
Before Zeus could even start speaking again, the throne room shook as we heard an explosion outside. Jason and Percy opened the throne room doors and gasped at the sight as the Olympians stood up.
"It's time." Poseidon said.
"She has risen. War has fallen upon us."
