It never snowed in the Zones. In fact, not many Killjoys even knew what snow was. But, the Fabulous Four along with Cherri Cola, Show Pony, Hot Chimp, and Absinthe Angel had smuggled themselves into Battery City for the day when Doctor Death had reminded them of the time of year. Still, the expressions that crossed all of their faces was pretty much described as actual wonder at the sight of the snow in one of the few parks Battery City had.
Why they'd decided to get each other gifts this year wasn't really a question they'd asked themselves, figuring they just wanted to have a real Christmas at least once.
Though, of course, first they'd had to have a snowball fight.
It was interesting to the passerby's to see full-grown adults hurling snow at each other, and not something they saw very often. The cold was more than welcome to the Killjoys, who hadn't known that temperatures like these existed anymore. They were joined by two children (who Party swore they recognized, but Ghoul wouldn't answer) who were welcomed to mess around with them. Instead of leaving once they'd remembered they were there for a reason, the two kids decided to stick around, tailing after the Killjoys with bright smiles for a short while.
It was official, that by some Christmas miracle, the onslaught and war had ended.
BLI said that they were going to stop fueling anything into a war, as that was just what the Killjoys wanted, and were instead going to focus on their citizens and keeping them happy and healthy. The war would have become one-sided if an anonymous note that represented all the Killjoys hadn't been delivered, stating that they wouldn't fight this anymore.
Truth be told, only about three Killjoys knew what actually went down. Absinthe Angel had snuck Fun Ghoul and Show Pony into Battery City, and all it took was a well-timed shot at someone important. It was then, really, that she had completely gained their trust. She'd led them into something that wasn't a trap, allowed them to do their job, then got them out.
Still, she did look an awful lot like Jet, which was really weird. He seemed to have a vague idea, but he never said anything about it.
"Fix your fuckin' hat," Ghoul said, yanking down to further cover Party's hair, "I want to at least do something fun today without getting attacked."
"Shut up, dad, I can do what I want. I'm punk rock."
"Shut up."
The two laughed again. "Don't fall in snow," Party mused, glancing over at him with a small smirk.
"Why would I-" There was a quiet yelp, and Ghoul found himself going down, landing in a soft pile of it. "You jackass! Now I'm all wet!"
"C'mere, I'm very hot-" Upon reaching to offer Ghoul his hand, he was pulled in instead, mimicking the same noise that Ghoul had previously. "Well, now that's just fan-fuckin-tastic."
"This is a very nice pile of snow, and you looked like you needed to cool down."
"Sure." The redhead reached over, pulling Ghoul close and pecking at his cheek. He took the chance to pull the both of them out of the snow, a light shiver taking over the two as they started walking again. "Is there any place you wanted to go?"
"Not with you, right now," Ghoul said with a soft chuckle. "Want to meet back somewhere in an hour?"
"That sounds perfect," Party purred before pulling away and leaving.
Instead of secretly following like he'd originally planned, Party left Ghoul on his own to go look around on his own. It was nice in the city, though he was pretty sure it was never going to snow again. The redhead looked around one of the shops, not really sure what he could even get there until he decided to pull out the few carbons he had and paid for some food.
It wasn't Power Pup. That was a start.
Otherwise, he roamed around until he'd run into Show Pony again, who decided to accompany him on his travels around. It was the first time Party had seen him wearing something more than a crop top and tights in years. Who's clothes he had stolen to look normal, he didn't quite know, but with his black hair slicked back, Show Pony actually wore the white quite well.
"Where are we going to now?" his companion had asked as they left the slums and started heading back towards where Party said he'd meet Ghoul.
"Back to where we started to pick up Ghoul." He'd almost said Frank, and though that wouldn't be a crime, it still wouldn't have been the best idea.
Show Pony nodded, looking down at his nails. "Are you getting anyone anything for this Christmas thing?" he asked, only glancing up at Party once.
"I dunno, this isn't gonna be the best place to find it." Party shrugged.
There was a pause, but then the younger looked at the redhead. "I could hook you up with a few places out in the Zones. You still have a week, anyways." He smiled. "I need to get my hair re-dyed anyways. You could just come with me!" He was getting awfully excited now.
Party simply rolled his eyes playfully and laughed. "Alright, alright, I'll go with you. Maybe the day after tomorrow?"
"Oh, yes! That's perfect!"
The two paused at the corner of the street before crossing over. Though, they were quickly shoved aside at the presence of draculoids dragging along a small Killjoy. Whoever it was, he seemed to be unconscious.
Part of them considered following, though they briefly spoke of it as well, they decided not to intervene. Party stopped at the corner where he was supposed to meet Ghoul, looked around, and waited seeing as he wasn't there.
It took a few minutes for him to arrive, carrying a small bag with him as he approached the two with a smile. "Hi, guys," he said, straightening out.
"Get anything good?" Show Pony asked as they started walking.
Ghoul shrugged. "I dunno, I think so."
"What did you get?"
"Not telling."
Show Pony pouted. "But why?" he whined
"Fuck off, Shoe Pont." This earned a chuckle from Party, and an eyeroll from Show Pony but also a concealed smile. "Where are we meeting the others, again?" Ghoul questioned.
"Around where we split up in an hour, I think." Party shrugged, taking Ghoul's free hand in his own and starting to walk. Show Pony didn't leave for about two minutes, which was rather surprising, but he grew tired of the silence and being the third wheel and left for elsewhere.
The two Killjoys otherwise stayed together, huddled up against each other in the cold that they really weren't used to. Had they not been living in one hundred and ten plus degree weather for their whole lives, they probably wouldn't have been shivering. Then again, Ghoul was still partially damp and Party couldn't feel his balls.
There was a lot of hustle-and-bustle around them, though few draculoids went by. The logic they'd figured was that they were mostly out in the zones or at BLI headquarters, seeing as nothing was really going on at the moment. Though, for one, Party knew that they'd be back out before the next year was over. Killjoys were venturing into the city because they were desperate for supplies; most of the old sellers were gone or rebuilding, and wouldn't be getting shipments or their own supplies for another six months.
"Y'know, I think there's a Mad Gear concert coming up. We should go," Ghoul said, breaking the silence as he glanced up at the redhead that had been lost in thought.
Party, though, smiled. "We should. Do you still have carbons?"
"Enough to get in. It's not gonna cost that much. Besides, it would be worth it. They're hot."
"I would tap that, no offense."
"So would I."
The redhead brought the both of them into a coffee shop, though were being relatively quick about being inside. There was a draculoid that had looked right at them, but didn't seem to recognize them. As they got coffee, the two left quickly and started the walk back to the place they were supposed to be meeting at.
It got to a point where it was hard to blend in with the normal civilians of Battery City, partially due to the fact that they all seemed to not be affected by the cold, and majority of them had headphones on. Though it was growing creepy as they weaved through the crowd, Party and Ghoul stayed quiet until they'd reached the slums, where the snow was already melting and leaving the streets wet and slick with a putrid scent of marshland and garbage.
They'd stopped at the corner of Fourth street, met by Absinthe Angel and Show Pony. Cherri Cola and Hot Chimp arrived next, both carrying bags of their own. They started to get the stuff in the back of the van as they waited for Jet and Kobra to come back. Hot Chimp was in the driver's seat, waiting with her feet up on the dashboard.
Party was starting to grow worried, standing out on the street corner waiting for the two. He kept looking around every now and then, unable to just stay still or inside the van. "What time is it?" he'd called, glancing back towards the others that were sitting inside.
"Almost four," Cherri Cola answered. "Still no sign of them?"
"No..." Party took a few steps away. "I'm gonna go look for them-"
"Start the car!" Cola exclaimed, reaching out and snatching Party by his shirt collar, dragging him inside the van. The redhead yelped, tumbling in and hitting the other door as Kobra jumped inside and moved to the side before watching Jet jump inside and shut the door behind him.
"What the hell was that?!" Party exclaimed.
Kobra sat himself up, and instead of speaking, it was Jet. "Got caught up in some trouble. No big deal," he said, tying the bag shut and settling down.
"That's not 'no big deal'-"
The back door opened, revealing two dracs and a scarecrow peering in. Kobra was the first one to react, also being the closest. He snatched the red gun from off the floor and in one swift motion took out both of the draculoids. By then, Party had his gun and had shot the scarecrow about three times.
"I told you to go!" Cherri Cola exclaimed, hauling himself into shotgun as Kobra shut the back doors and nearly fell against them as Hot Chimp floored it.
"I'm sorry, I forgot which pedal was which for a second!"
There was a loud groan from the front, followed by Ghoul muttering something about breaking his skull open. He hadn't, but Jet had given himself some sort of rope burn from trying to stay upright and not go tumbling out the back door when it had still been open. Kobra had glanced at Party, who currently had his head on Ghoul's chest and his eyes were wide and unblinking, but then he'd glanced at Jet, who opened the door just enough to get some of the almost-melted snow and put it in a cloth before setting it on his arm.
Jet was careful in the way that he held it, keeping it over something that could be dried before emptying out the unmelted snow and wrapping the cloth around his arm. He glanced up at the blonde, who reverted his gaze to the gun to hide the fact he'd been staring.
