β€’ chapter ten

While Edmund is being accompanied by Glenstorm and Wimbleweather to deliver the challenge to Miraz. All Narnians who will fight are now preparing inside the How for what might occur on this day. Sarina is in her shared quarters with Lucy and Susan. She made sure that no one was around before pulling her wand from her pocket. She might have to use it if the situation persists; she inspected it if it is still in a good condition despite not being used frequently as she used to. When satisfied, she put it back to the pocket of her dress when she felt a familiar feeling flowing to her fingertips and upwards. It was very familiar, something that made her remember about its existence.

She pulled it from her pocket, revealing the grimoire that Aslan gave to her the last time that they met.

"Fill it with your knowledge, young one. Take care of it and it will care for you."

Sarina gently caressed the cover of the grimoire, feeling its magic resonate beneath her fingertips, as if it were greeting her. She chuckled at the thought.

"I'll might need your help today... but I still don't know how you work..." she whispered to the book before tucking it back into her pocket, just as Susan knocked on the rocks outside.

"Your prince is waiting for you with Lucy. He'll be seeing you both off," Susan called.

Sarina frowned, confused. "What are you talking about?"

Susan laughed as she walked over, taking Sarina's hands in hers. "I can't tell if you're being brilliantly clever or just naturally oblivious."

"Right now, all I know is I can't tell if that's a compliment or an insult."

"It's about you and Caspian," Susan said.

"Uh, what about us?" Sarina replied, her frown deepening.

Susan groaned. "You like him."

"What? No, I don't!" Sarina protested, but Susan wasn't convinced.

"I swear, he's cute, but I don'tβ€”" like him. Sarina hesitated, wanting to insist she didn't have feelings for him.

So why was it so hard to say?

Susan noticed Sarina's hesitation. "What's stopping you, Sari?" she asked.

Sarina didn't respond; instead, she smiled at Susan and released her hand, reaching for her dagger on the makeshift table.

"Let's not keep them waiting, shall we?" she said, not bothering to wait for Susan to catch up. She didn't want her friend to see the feelings she was trying to suppress, feelings that pressed against her heart as she focused on the task ahead.

As she walked, her gaze caught on Caspian's striking dark hair as he spoke with her little cousin. How could she forget the feelings that threatened to bloom whenever he did something to draw her in?

This makes no sense at all. How could she fall for a man she barely knew?

She gasped at the realization, silently admitting it to herself.

"Bloody hell," she muttered. This was insane.

"Sari?" Susan called, and Sarina quickly brushed it aside. "You're so slow, Su. Let's go," she replied, starting to walk again, desperately trying to hide her flushed cheeks. It was a futile effort; Lucy had already noticed how red her face was.

Caspian sensed a presence behind him and turned around, his breath catching at the sight of her.

She wore armor over her dress that hugged her figure, a dagger secured at her waist, and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, with a few loose strands framing her face. But what made him stop the most was the blush spreading across her cheeks. He couldn't tell if she was embarrassed about something or if she felt the same way he did whenever she was near.

He extended his hand to her. "Your hand, milady."

Sarina accepted his outstretched hand, and the moment their fingers touched, a flutter stirred in her stomach. She tried to dismiss the feeling as she prepared to climb onto the horse, but then he placed his hand on her waist and effortlessly lifted her as if she weighed nothing. She was too stunned to react, still feeling the warmth of his touch lingering on her waist while he adjusted Lucy behind her.

Caspian grabbed the reins and handed them to her. Thankfully, Sarina managed to recoverβ€”well, slightly. He smiled and said, "Destier has always served me well. You're in good hands."

"Or hooves," Lucy chimed in, grinning.

Caspian chuckled, then turned his gaze to Sarina. "Good luck," he said to her earnestly.

"Thanks," she replied. He pulled out the horn, holding it out to her. "This might be better with you."

Sarina shook her head. "You're giving it back to the wrong person. That's Susan's horn."

"I want you to have it in case something goes wrong. I'll come for you..."

Lucy cleared her throat, prompting Caspian to add, "For both of you."

Sarina glanced at Susan, who nodded, encouraging her to accept it. But she remained firm. "That horn is needed on the battlefield. Use it when necessary. Don't worry about usβ€”I'm stronger than I look."

"I'm not doubting your abilities, Sarina," Caspian said, his expression serious. "I just want you... both to be safe."

Sarina smiled and nodded. "And I wish the same for you."

Caspian's eyes widened at her words, and Sarina suddenly realized what she had said aloud.

"See you later, Caspian," she said quickly, turning away as the girls rode off, leaving him watching after them.

Lucy turned to Sarina with a teasing smile. "'And I wish the same for you?'"

"Oh, shut up," Sarina dismissed her. Hiding her now tomato face because of that handsome and caring prince.

Why does he have to be so sweet and caring? He's making this so much harder! she silently fumed as they entered the forest. Pushing thoughts of Caspian aside, she refocused on her task. Oh, Aslan, please show yourself to us.

Caspian lingered for a moment, the sound of hooves gradually fading into the distance. That means something, right? A flicker of warmth crossed his face as he turned around, only to be met by the Gentle Queen's teasing smile. He quickly tried to wipe the grin from his lips, but his eyes betrayed him, sparkling with unspoken feelings.

Susan shook her head, a playful roll of her eyes accompanying her words. "A little bit of advice: make a move already." The unexpected suggestion left Caspian momentarily speechless, his eyes widening in shock.

"You're not upset?" he asked, searching her face for any sign of disapproval.

"Why would I be?" she replied.

Caspian hesitated, wrestling with his thoughts. "I don't know... Do you... do you approve of me? Is it alright for me to pursue her?"

"I don't think I'm the right person to answer that," Susan said with a knowing smile. "You should talk to her directly."

"But is it alright for me to feel this way about her?" he pressed, uncertainty creeping into his voice.

"Love is something we can't control. If you feel strongly for her, then show it," she advised, her tone earnest.

Just then, Reepicheep called out, and Susan glanced over her shoulder. Before she turned to leave, she paused and said, "Prince Caspian," He met her gaze, curiosity piqued.

"To answer your question. I approve of you," she added, a warm smile breaking across her face.

Caspian felt his heart swell, the corners of his mouth lifting into a grin as he watched the Queen depart. He couldn't wait to see Sarina again, to feel that spark tell her his feelings. Climbing onto one of the horses, he set off after the girls, excitement bubbling within him.

Susan watched him go with a satisfied smile, her gaze lingering as Peter approached, curious about her expression.

"What are you looking at?" he asked, trying to decipher her thoughts.

"Nothing, just a prince following his heart. You should take notes sometime. It might help you in the future," she replied, giving his shoulder a gentle tap before leaving him in confusion.
