Seth

Several hours earlier

When Seth finally returned to the normal world he always imagined he would be able to meet back with his friends he had in school. He always had this vision that he would hug his friends with tears in their eyes. Never did he imagine he would be going to New York. Manhattan no less! When they had first arrived Seth couldn't keep his eyes off the buildings towering over him. Matt and Michelle were just as interested which Seth couldn't blame them. They weren't used to any building that went higher than three floors. So as the group of three walked down the busy street filled with throngs of people going about their business, they chose to focus on what their mission was. In this city there was a person who had just awakened their powers and it was their job to retrieve said person.

"First we need to get an exact location on where this person is in the city," Matt said loudly trying to speak over the sounds of thousands of people moving around them. The city had a lot going on. Venders and street merchants were loudly advertising their products while people rushed about around them many speaking in loud tones. The honking of car horns was nearly deafening to the three warriors as they stood looking nervously about. Seth sniffed the air and discovered a sour smell, a mixture between human sweat and car fuel, needless to say the city had them all feeling decidedly uncomfortable.  All three of them wore a mixture of loose fitting jeans and t-shirts to fit in as much as possible. Seth put his hands in the pockets of the navy blue hoodie he was wearing over his clothes.

"Well how do we figure that out," he asked looking around him. Seth decided he was feeling quite uncomfortable in this city. He was used to the wide spaces of the Plaines, not these cramped cities.

"Well for that we just have to follow our senses," Michelle said. When Seth tossed her a confused look she explained further.

"We just have to send our senses out, a person who has just awakened their power won't be able to control it and we'll be able to feel it like a beacon." Matt sighed as Michelle finished explaining he was casting his eyes around as if we was searching for a potential enemy.

"The only problem is that the demons can feel it too so that means we have to hurry to get there before anyone else can."

"Remember, we can't afford to draw attention to ourselves in this world, so we can only use subtle attacks with our powers. Of course when it comes down to it if we have no other choice then we will turn it up a bit," Matt finished with a grim smile.

"Alright Seth," Michelle started. "Since this is your first time on a retrieval mission we need to teach you how to sense awakened people. Close your eyes and picture your senses spreading out from yourself in every direction. Seth leaned back against the wall of a tall ten story office building out of the way of all the walkers out on the street and he closed his eyes and as Michelle had instructed he quickly pictured his senses spreading out from him.

A weird sensation filled him like he had suddenly flipped upside down and his view went from blackness to a overview of everything around him. It was a strange feeling to say the least for him to be looking down at himself. next to him were Matt and Michelle but what caught his attention was that each of their bodies were surrounded by a thin cloak of white light. Seth pushed his senses further out and he was able to identify the humans around them by their pulsating auras of grey. As he pushed his senses even further out he began to feel a force pushing back against him. It was a tingly sensation at first with only a sense of pressure on his mind but as he tried to push passed it. That feeling quickly became painful, the pressure increasing many times. By this point though his view covered almost half of the giant metropolis that was Manhattan. Seth could see cars trucks intricate overpasses and roads jammed to the brim with vehicles. Near the middle of the city was a massive park taking up approximately a mile of land known as central park and passed it towards the east side of the city in a small cul de sac a house at the end of the street was pulsating with the same white light Seth and his friends were.

"Found them," Seth said as he began to pull his senses back towards himself. But before he could he was drawn towards several auras scattered throughout the city. The were tinged black and gave Seth a cold feeling in his gut that sent a chill down his spine. Instinctively he knew what they were... Demons, and there were a lot of them.

"But we aren't the only ones around, their are demons to." To their credit Michelle and Matt didn't even bat and eye when Seth mentioned the demons.

"Then we have to get moving if we are going to reach them first," Matt said. Then he turned west to where the massive ball of fire known as the sun was slowly disappearing behind the skyscrapers. The reflection cast on the glass surface giving it a fiery look.

"Lets hope that God grants us the speed to reach our destination before nightfall."

Jaden Caaro
34 year old Jaden had just put his ten year old daughter do for bed. After a long day at work he had been looking forward to this time. The only time during the day that he had for himself. His wife had gone up to their room to get ready for bed which just left him sitting in the living room switching through the channels on the television. It was then that he began to hear it. A scraping sound that seemed to come from the front of the house. At first he had ignored it, simply passing it off as one of the noises that the old house made. But after a few more second he stood with a frown. He wasn't sure what was off about tonight but he felt as if there was something different about tonight, Something bad... But as he neared the door he became aware of a soft glow of blue light coming from behind him. Even more intrigued he spun around to see where the light was coming from. Perhaps he had left the light on in the bathroom. So he was even more puzzled when he saw the light was coming from his daughters room. Smiling to himself he made his way to his daughters bedroom.

His daughter Laria had always hated bedtime, So she would often stay up late and read books. She was always more of a bookworm then others her age. He opened the door.

"Hey Laria you have school tomorrow so you need..." He never finished what he was going to say because what he saw took him a minute to process. His daughter, still sleeping, was floating above her bed. around her was a glowing blue aura that sparked with electricity every so often. Shock and disbelief swept through Jaden and he rushed forward sure the electricity would harm his precious daughter but as he struck the aura surrounding her body a jolt of electricity and a loud boom threw him backward at least that was only what he could surmise had happened. all he knew was that when he could see again he was laying in the crumpled remains of his toilet. Which was in the bathroom across the hall.

"What the, how did I..." Jaden started but was interrupted by the scream of his wife from down the hall. Jumping up and forgetting all about what was happening with his daughter he ran towards the back of the house. He had never heard his wife make such a sound. Bursting through the door with his heart in his throat he immediately saw what was happening. a dark figure had somehow gotten into their room and was standing at the end of the bed. Jaden who was at a loss for words had a hard time processing what was going on. However the next scream, that tore from his wife Isabell's lips was enough to galvanize him into action. Throwing himself at the creature he managed to catch it off balance and tackle it to the ground. As they tumbled to the ground Jaden saw that the dark figure was almost certainly not human. It had a long lanky body hidden behind the thick cloth of an long hooded coat. Something hard hit him in the stomach driving the air out of his lungs as he hit the ground. He rolled away from the creature in an attempt to put some distance between him and the creature. It was then he saw a flashed as he rolled and sharp pain erupted from his shoulder and he screamed out in pain, A sound he had never made before. As he looked down he found a snout with dark black fur had attached itself to his shoulder. Jaden immediately lashed out and struck the dark monster in the snout with all of his panicked strength. He felt the pressure lessen and he instantly wrenched himself away from that terrifying pain. He stood trying to ignore the pain in his shoulder and the ominous liquid that was now leaking down his arm. Reaching up he reached for any weapon he could find. In his mind whatever this creature was Was definitely trying to kill him. His hand closed around a sword he had bought on a dare long ago. He had bought it because it looked cool. He had put it on his wall for display and hadn't touched it since. Grabbing the blade from the wall he prayed his knew enough about swords to survive this. He removed the blade from its sheath and it gleamed even in the dark as it left its sheath. In his hands he held a English long sword made of stainless steel and its handle wrapped in a rubber substance. The Templar cross had been stamped into the pommel. The being threw its coat back and strapped to its  side in a leather and hide sheath was a black curved sword. In one swift move it removed the  blade from its holding. As it did Jaden was able to get a good look at the creature. A flash of black fur as the light hit the dark being revealed a thin lanky body with the ribs clearly showing. Thin black wings shrouded in a mist were tucked firmly against its back and a evil intelligence lingered in its eyes which were glowing yellow due to the reflection of the lamp. Before Jaden could comprehend what he was seeing the creature raised his right hand palm out toward where Jaden's wife was cowering in the bed. A beam of dark light flew from his hand like he was holding a laser pointer and hit her. A brief scream escaped her lips and then she was still, slumping back on the bed her eyes rolled up into her head. Jaden's mind went blank. He had no idea what had just happened but somewhere deep inside him he knew that his soul mate had just left this world. A scream of pure anguish was ripped from him as he attacked the creature in a rage swing the sword in his hands fiercely over and over again. Trying without success to kill this fiendish creature. The being simply snarled in contempt as it once again stuck his arm out and every time Jaden swung his weapon an invisible force seemed to push it aside without harming anything.

Frustrated and angered Jaden roared at the creature with tears streaming down his face as he prayed for whatever higher power would listen to give him the power to save his daughter and himself. He put his entire force, all of his weight, and all the pain in his heart into a final swing. They had killed his wife. And he didn't even know why. But, what he did know is that even if he couldn't kill these monsters he would do his best to at least make them remember him.

CLANG!!!!

It connected! somehow Jaden had managed to push through. The creature was flung backward into the dresser behind it which promptly toppled over on top of it. Jaden stared at the saber in his hands in disbelief. A faint white light was coming from the blade. Or was that just his imagination. The dresser erupted into splinters in that moment and the creature leapt out at him. With hardly a scratch Jaden hadn't managed to do much more than piss it off. As it leapt at him time seemed to slow. Jaden could clearly see that he had no way out of this predicament he was backed into the corner of his already small room without any where else to go.

They say that when you are nearing death time slows and you see your life flash before you. But that isn't what happened for Jaden there was no light, no flashback. Just time slowed, to perhaps a tenth of a second and all of Jaden's senses were enhanced. He could feel the slick wood flooring beneath his bare feet. The stale air smelled of must. Jaden could clearly see the fierce red light coming from the demon's murderous eyes as it leapt at him. In this moment Jaden could've counted the individual hair pieces that made up the black fur on the creatures face. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the slumped form of his beloved her eyes open but seeing nothing.

"It's alright honey. I'm coming soon," He thought into this stillness. But then he heard it.

The sound was coming from down the hallway. It was the sound of his daughters terrified scream. Suddenly he was unwilling to die. If he died who would protect his baby girl. And once again he found himself praying that someone, or something would save his daughter. He didn't care what happened to him but he couldn't bare the thought of these creatures tearing apart his daughter.

Suddenly the wall behind him heaved, an explosion assaulted his ears and he was thrown to the opposite side of the room. Even though he had no idea what was going on he had no time to think about it as he focused completely on keeping the saber in his hands away from his body as he fell. Jaden slammed into the wall of his bedroom head first and as pain shot from the top of his head down his nervous system, his eyesight became blurry. The first thing he thought of was to find out where the creature had landed after that blast. In the bright illumination that engulfed the room after the explosion it wasn't hard to spot it. Jaden got up to face it but a voice interrupted him. It was coming from the light. The voice was young, but firm, kind but stern.

"Go and protect your daughter," It said simply. The vague silhouette of a person appeared in the light. "We'll take care of this."
