Derek POV
You stood inches away from the door of the home. You sighed as you raised your fist and knocked on the door. You waited a few moments until the door opened to reveal Anna's Father.
Tom: Derek, what brings you here?
Derek: I'm off duty for the time being after some recent events. Was told a good way to help would be to go to a place where I felt I belonged.
Tom: You can explain everything once you come inside. It's hot outside, you must be sweating.
He motioned for you to walk inside and you did. You walked into the living room and sat down on the couch.
Derek: Everyone out?
Tom: Marissa took the kids out shopping for clothes since we don't have alot of time with them anymore.
Derek: College?
Tom: Getting close. Abby and Silvana are about to go into Senior year while Matt is going to be a Junior.
Derek: Damn, I forgot that it's been awhile.
Tom: They grew up fast, so what were you saying about being off duty?
Derek: I recently just finished a mission, however I lost my cool.
Tom: What exactly happened?
Derek: To sum it up, I'm currently training a squad of recruits, they were captured while on a mission and experienced some traumatizing events. I lost my shit after I found out what happened. After we got them back, we captured a high ranking member to bring back to base for questioning. As we left, he was shot and killed and Sean was caught in the crossfire, getting knicked in the neck.
Tom: Is Sean alright?
Derek: Yea he's fine, had the bullet been higher caliber, it would've been a different story. But after surveying the area, we realized that the ones responsible were close allies. I lost my cool completely and ended up going into a blind rage.
Tom: What was the end result.
Derek: They're all in the medical wing with Sean. My punishment for putting them there is that I have to take a week long mental vacation, afterwards it'll be decided on whether or not I'll be out for an additional month or cleared to part take in missions again.
Tom: Well it's good to have you here Derek, we'd love to have you as our guest. Alots happened since I last saw you.
Derek: Oh you missed alot, I think Matt would like some of the stories.
Tom: He does want to follow Anna's footsteps and enlist in the Marines.
Derek: Is he mentally prepared?
Tom: He has a strong will, he isn't gonna back down when he's slammed into a wall.
Derek: Keep the spirit alive, but don't let it get into your head.
You heard the door knob turns the door opened
Marissa: Tom we're home!
Tom: Out in the living room, we have a guest!
You heard a group of footsteps get closer to the living room as everyone just looked at you sitting on the couch, partially in gear with your balaclava. You gave a nervous laugh as you waved.
Derek: Hey Mrs. Hughes.
Marissa: Derek?
Derek: Oh, where are my manners.
You stood up from the couch and took off your balaclava. She walked over and examined your eye.
Marissa: Oh my Derek, what happened to your eye?
Derek: I was the extra muscle for a group of youtubers, there was an assassination attempt and I got a bit cocky. Still got the job done though.
Marissa: When are you going to start being more careful with yourself?
Derek: Still working on that, ma'am.
Tom: When I went to visit in Quebec, You said you weren't in the Marines anymore. Where do you work now?
Derek: Yea, I got invited to join the Counter-Terrorist Organization, Rainbow. Joined that for a few months, then after awhile I was promoted to running a taskforce.
Tom: And how is that going?
Derek: Its going good, we just finished a mission that involved cutting the head off of the black masks.
Matt: You were apart of that small group that retook Miami?
Derek: Pfft apart of it? I ran it, called all of the shots.... also got my ass handed to me.
Marissa: I'm sure you have alot of stories since we last saw you, can discuss it over dinner.
Derek: I actually haven't eaten anything all day, could use the meal.
Marissa left to make dinner while you got curious and walked upstairs. You glanced down the hall until you saw a door that peaked your interest. You walked over and opened the door and entered the room, it was neat, almost as if it was cleaned every day. You walked over to a nightstand and grabbed a photo and looked at it. You couldn't help but smile.
Silvana: Just couldn't help yourself, could you?
You turned your head and placed the photo back on the nightstand in the exact spot you picked it up from.
Derek: Sorry, it'd just been so long since I've seen her face.
Silvana: Don't be sorry, I would've done the same thing if I was in your shoes.
Derek: I never took photos while we were together, it's the one thing I regret most.
Silvana: What was she like?
Derek: What do you mean?
Silvana: I mean, what was she like during basic?
Derek: *chuckles* She was... different, I could tell you that.
Silvana: Different in what way?
Derek: She wasn't like the rest, on the outside she was soft and always trying to make the days better. But once you looked into her eyes, you could tell she had a strong spirit.
Silvana: She wasn't lazy?
Derek: Well there were days when I had to carry more of a load than her. But I never really cared. If anything, I felt comfort.
Silvana: Comfort?
Derek: She always stuck close, she relied on me.
Silvana: Well... can I rely on you?
Derek: If you're talking about mask attacks, I'll be there.
You heard a voice shout from downstairs
Marissa: Dinners ready if you're hungry!
You looked at the photo one last time before leaving the room with Silvana and closing the door. You walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. You grabbed a plate and sat down.
Derek: You guys have grown fast.
Matt: Our highschool experience is flying by.
Derek: Got any plans after you graduate?
Matt: I would like to enlist in the Marine Corps.
Derek: With the situation in Afghanistan, that's gonna be a big task.
Matt: I think I have what it takes, but they still worry.
You turned and faced Mr. Hughes
Derek: If it'll make it easier, the kid still has 2 years. Could go back by the time he enlists.
Tom: It'd make me feel somewhat easier on the subject.
Matt: And it's not like it's Washington dad.
Derek: Dont compare, they both had their heavy moments.
Tom: You were at Washington when it all went down, correct?
Derek: Yea, my squad and I were occasionally the driving force to start advances.
Matt: Thats actually pretty cool to know someone who played a big role during that time.
Derek: Did you read or see anything about the Hammerdown Protocol?
Tom: It was all over the news.
Derek: We lead the advance to stop it.
Matt: What was it like?
Derek: Hell..

Derek POV
Your M9 clicked empty as you leaned over the side of the crashed helicopter. As the rest of your squad fired at the increasing number of Russians, a bright light came to life in the distance. Soon after, everything shuts off. Attack helicopters fell from the sky as the Russian soldiers withdrew from the area.
Mickey: What the hell?
Bulldog: Lets not worry about that right now, we gotta get out of here!
John ran over to the crashed helicopter and went to drag you out. You felt a sharp pain as you yelled out to which he stopped.
Bulldog: Ah hell, this is going to hurt.
You grit your teeth as he grabbed the piece of shrapnel in your abdomen and pulled it out. He pulled you out of the crashed helicopter as Robert ran next to you and they both held you up as the 4 of you jogged through the streets. Everything was falling from the sky as you narrowly avoided an attack helicopter that landed just in front of you. You looked around and pointed to a nearby store.
Derek: Take shelter in there.
They changed directions and the 4 of you entered the store. You grunted in pain as you tapped John on the shoulder.
Derek: Put me down for a second.
He slowly bent down as you sat against a wall, groaning in pain. Sean walked over and inspected the wound before he looked up to John.
Mickey: This is gonna be difficult if none of us have gauze.
Demo: Can't call for help either, that explosion just now? Was an EMP.
Bulldog: So in other words, we're on our own out here, and we can't rely on our sights.
Demo: Not to mention our Sgt. Is wounded.
Derek: I'll be fine, just need a second to process what the hell just happened.
After a minute, you slowly got to your feet and hung your arm around John's shoulders.
Demo: So whats the plan?
Derek: Explore the streets with Caution. With no light or comms, it'll be difficult to figure out who is a friend or enemy.
The 4 of you left the store and looked around at you only saw the aftermath of events that just took place, with the only sound heard being rain.
Mickey: God damn.
Demo: You don't think we're the only ones who made it out of that... right?
Derek: No way, there's gotta be other squads somewhere. We just have to look.
Mickey: Not much we can do while we're low on ammo with an injured man.
You saw an M4 laying on the ground with a dead marine not far from it. You grabbed the M4 off the ground and checked how many rounds were left in the magazine.
Derek: Dont count me out of the fight yet, I still have 2 mags on my vest.
You shouldered the M4 while holding your hand against your wound. You approached a building as one person opened the doors and quickly closed them.
Derek: Star!
The man said nothing and looked over and started to run over.
Derek: God damnit, star!
????: I don't know the answer, alright?
Derek: Its Texas, state your name.
Vaughan: Pvt. Vaughan sir.
Derek: What're you doing out here all by yourself.
Vaughan: Trying to find as many Marines as possible. Col. Marshall is leading a strike force at the White House. Start making your way over.
Derek: What about you.
Vaughan: I still need to go find more Marines that survived this shit show.
He quickly ran off as the 4 of you made your way into the building. You scanned the halls until you met a door. You creaked the door open slowly and noticed that no one was inside the room. You fully opened the door and moved through the office-like room until you met an opening. You looked down and noticed it was a safe drop before actually getting down. You heard commotion in the distance and once it became more clear, you realized it was a group of Russians standing in top of a BTR. The 4 of you shot the group down while hearing banging from the BTR.
Bulldog: What're we doing about the group inside?
Derek: Leave em, lets keep moving.
You continued down the street until you saw a patrol posted outside of a building. You out your fist up and motioned to hide behind cover.
Derek: Star!
You recieved no response, you took a flare off your vest and tossed it into the street. This startled the group who began to shoot at your position.
Your squad assisted by taking out the patrol while you moved to cover. You got helped up as you entered a pathway into the building. You passed dead marines as you walked down a set of stairs until you were met with a door with a seal.
Demo: That seal on the door, this is the presidents bunker? I thought it was under the West Wing.
Mickey: In the eyes of a tourist, yes. This must be the real thing.
Derek: Well if it is, open it.
Sean walked over to the door and peaked his head inside.
Mickey: Real or not, it's history. Hope they made it out alright.
He opened the rest of the door as the 4 of you dropped down inside the flooded bunker. You moved through the tunnel until you saw flares and heard gunfire. You emerged from the bunker onto the lawn just outside of the white house where you saw a large group of marines holding out. You ran up and got behind cover as Colonel Marshall was right next to you.
Derek: Sir, what's the situation here!
Col. Marshall: You're looking at the High Ground Sergeant! There's still power in the white house, which means we still have a means of communicating with Central Command, we just need to retake the building!
Derek: By any chance are there any medics here!
Col. Marshall: Negative, why?
He looked towards your abdomen that had a tear and was stained with blood.
Col. Marshall: How are you still conscious!
Derek: No clue sir, but what can we do!
Col. Marshal: We need an advance on that left flank, move your squad and go!
Derek: Yes sir!
You turned to see John laying down fire with Sean and Robert leaning against the Barricade.
Derek: You heard the Colonel, lets go!
You grunted as you got up and made your way towards the left flank. Heavy fire was recieved as you took cover in a nearby crater. You noticed a search light that was shining down on the lawn. You aimed your sights at it and shot the light out so it was back to darkness with the only light being the flashes of lightning, the the lights inside of the Whitehouse, and the flares thrown across the field.
Derek: I dont know about the rest of you Marines! But this is our chance!
You got out of the small crater and kept moving towards the left flank, you got behind a small Barricade as a machine gun laid down fire on your position.
Derek: We need to punch through here! We need to take out those machine guns!
You peaked from the Barricade and shot the Russian operatoring the machine gun while the rest of your squad took out the remaining Russians on the porch. You pushed in and entered the Oval Office. You heard a noise while Sean grabbed a painting and removed it to reveal a speaker.
Cujo 5-1: This is Cujo 5-1 to any friendly units in D.C., hammerdown is in effect. I repeat, hammerdown is in effect. If you are receiving this transmission, you are in a hardened high-value structure. Deploy green flares on the roof of this structure to indicate that you are still combat effective. We will abort our mission on direct visual contact with this counter-sign.
Derek: Bulldog, get the door.
Mickey: Sarge, are you reading this?
Derek: Thats why we gotta go! Bulldog, the fucking door!
Bulldog: Roger that.
John shot the door open and the 4 of you moved out of the Oval Office. You cleared the room and quickly moved up into the Press Corps Offices.
Cujo 5-1: 2 minutes to weapons release.
Derek: We've got two minutes before they flatten the city! We gotta get to the roof and signal them off, lets go!
You continued running through the halls until you reached the kitchen where you shot 2 more Russians.
Cujo 5-1: ninety seconds to weapons release.
Derek: Keep pushing!
You ran through the kitchen and up a slope of rubble into the state floor.
You got behind cover as John and Robert shot the Russians in the room. You ran up a door and kicked it open as you moved into the next room.
Cujo 5-1: 1 minute to weapons release.
Derek: Minute on the clock, lets move!
You shot two more Russians on a set of stairs
Cujo 5-1: Thirty seconds to weapons release.
Derek: We've gotta get to the roof, now!
You ran up the flight of stairs into the residence floor.
Air Force Pilot 1: Standby. Target package White House Zero-One has been authorized.
Air Force Pilot 2: Roger. Standby.
You ran up a slope of rubble and the 4 of you lit green flares and started to frantically wave them in the air while on the roof.
Air Force Pilot 1: Countersign detected at the White House. Abort. Abort.
Air Force Pilot 2: We've got a countersign. Abort mission!
The Jets flew past the white house. You tossed your flare onto the ground and leaned against a pile of rubble while clutching your abdomen. You looked in the distance and saw the same green flares on other rooftops.
Marine: So when are we going to Moscow?
Mickey: Not soon enough man, but we'll burn it down once we get there.
Marine: Hoo-ah
Derek: *grunts* In due time Mick, lets just celebrate this victory for now. Now can someone get me a God damn medic...
