I block a punch from Bree as she swung her foot and hit me in my gut, making me step backwards. She jumped in the air and performed a roundhouse kick as I duck and kick her side; Bree grabbed both of my shoulders just as I push her up in the air by pressing my foot on her stomach and flipped her over me to where her back was now against the mat and I hovered above her. I raise my gloved fist at her but stop and jump off, stepping away a little.
Both of us was breathing heavy and caught our breaths while Bree sat up and looked over at me, starting, "Not bad. But once I'm pinned, you should try for a finishing blow." She commented and stood back up and faced me while I moved my hands over my knees, hunched over.
"You want full "Mortal Kombat"?" I remark, still hunched over but looked up at her.
"I want you to stop holding back, Des." Bree said, stepping closer to me.
I straighten up and look at her fully, throwing my arms up halfway and then back down on my sides, letting out, "I didn't want to hurt you." Bree looked at me pointedly as I correct myself, "I didn't want to try to hurt you. I feel like I'm constantly on the verge of..." I glanced at her and looked away. "I don't know."
"Look, we lost the List to Rodissius and your old friend betrayed you- again- and I bet it hurts a lot, but you can't just shut those feelings out. Can't sustain that." Bree started.
"Well, what's my option here? I just lose it right here?" I reply in frustration, "Believe me, I so want to just release it all, but you and I both know I can't lose control, especially with my powers."
"We've talked about this. Control. Embrace your emotions, your nerves. Use them... on your terms." Bree said, her hands on her hips.
"I don't know." I sighed, "What I'm feeling is pretty... dark. I'm afraid I'm gonna go postal and tear your head off."
"Go for it. I promise you won't." Bree simply commented as I look back at her.
"Maybe Des needs a break." Chase spoke up, entering the training room and stopped in front of the large red training mat that the two of us was still on, folding his arms lightly across his chest.
Bree looked over at her brother, one hand on her hip, saying, "Training is not a group activity."
"Yeah, I just came up here to- to see what it's about." Chase replied.
Bree grinned in amusement. "I'll tell you what, Chase- Come back in an hour. I'd be happy to show you what it's all about."
"I'm fine, Chase." I speak up as he looked over at me in concern, "Really." He nodded and reluctantly left out of the training room. I step beside her and comment, "That would be pretty funny to see you and Chase fight like you guys used to-" Bree swung her arm to me as I block it with both of my hands. "Okay, guess we're back on."
"And not holding back." Bree replied and swung her other hand around as I go to grab that arm but was then flipped over by her instead. I roll over from my side to my back and push off of the floor, landing on my feet and face her again. She bounced on her toes impatiently, her gloved hands ready to strike.
I fake a punch as she outstretched her arm to block while I duck underneath her arm, grabbing it, and pinned it behind her back. Bree swung her head back just as I quickly push her forward; I cartwheel once towards her and swung my feet in the air and kicked her down on the floor as she now laid on her stomach on the mat.
Bree spun her legs around and stood back up swiftly and kicked towards me. I grab her outstretched leg and hold it with one hand and use my other hand to punch her in the chin. I move her leg, push it away, making her spin around halfway.
I then move one foot behind one of her feet and move my hands around the nape of her neck, bending forward and making her perform a cartwheel in the air as she landed on her side on the floor.
I now hovered over her, one fist aimed at her face; I hit the mat right beside the side of her face and stand back up, breathless, and start walking away. "Training's over for today." I mutter, removing my fingerless gloves off of my hands and tossed them beside the mat and exit out of the training room.
I stop outside of the room and lean against the wall, looking down at my heart rate monitor watch on my left wrist. It was still steady as I lean my head back against the wall and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. I push off of the wall and walk downstairs and move over to the living room where the rest of the team was at.
I stop and turn towards the fireplace and open the hyperlift, stepping inside of it, and was sent down to mission command. Douglas was inside of the lab, working on new tech and inventions. "What're you up to, Dougie?"
He looked up from his work behind the cyberdesk and over at me and furrowed his eyebrows. "Just get through training?" He answered with another question curiously.
I groaned, "The team, especially Bree, thinks that I'm holding way too much back. She thinks that I can't handle my own without any of them. They've been tiptoeing around me like I'm so delicate ever since they found out what happened between Reese and me." I sit down on one of the stools in front of the cyberdesk, now sitting in front of him."I just... I want her to understand me, like for her to be in my shoes for one day at least."
"In order for that to happen, you two would have to switch places, which is impossible." Douglas wondered aloud in interest.
"Maybe I can." I sit up straighter with a mischievous grin on my face now. "In my realm, I have magic, and the only reason I don't here is because I wasn't trained for that." I stand up out of my seat and step back from the cyberdesk and him.
"D, what're you doing-?" Douglas started.
"I'll be right back, but first, I need to visit home." I comment, opening up a portal with just a small wave of my hand. I smile a little, exhale, and then jump through and landed on the other side of the portal. I close my portal and look around at Aerofexus and grinned. "Hello, my home."
(A/N: This gif here is just to show what the spell looks like, lol.
Carry onward with the story. 😂)
I super speed to my castle and visit the library, searching through the different books; I found everything that I was looking for and the perfect spell for my situation. I grab the large, ancient spell book and jump through portal again, stepping back in mission command.
Bree was talking to Douglas as they both jumped a little at my sudden return and looked over at me. "Des, why did you leave here?" The speedster inquired, stepping over to me.
"To find a way for you to understand me better." I comment and grin, "And I found one." I move one hand up on one side and make my other hand move up on that side also while also beginning a spell, my first spell ever, "Bree and Destiny. Cambia Coporum, Meum Corpora, Sua Nominavi." Bree was talking over me, wondering what I was doing and saying. I move my hands together just as a light surrounded both of us while our spirits or personalities switched bodies.
"What just happened?" Bree questioned but in my voice and body as we both look at one another. "And why am I looking at myself?"
"Because you're not in your body, you're in mine." I explain, sitting down on the stool behind me.
"What- But... Why- How?" She started, looking at her hands, well, my hands. "How is this possible? Des... What did you do!?" Bree looked at me again with wide eyes.
I wave a little and then flipped my-Bree's- hair over her-my shoulder. "To teach you about me." I stand back up and move over to my body with Bree inside it. "To help you understand my reasonings through my own eyes quite literally."
"Okay, I get that we just swapped bodies, but how did you even do this?" Bree replied.
"Magic. I was born with powers but also magic because of my realm, which is a magical place. I just learned how to use my magic, that's all." I explain with a light shrug.
Bree placed her hands on her hips and looked over at Douglas who had been watching us with wide eyes in amusement and curiosity. "Do you understand any of this? Is this even possible?"
"I understand D. She's always done the impossible and never gives up. You can learn something from her, Bree." Douglas answered, having my back as always, "And I might not understand the science behind this whole magic thing and other worlds, but one thing is for certain- my faith in Des."
I smile a little and look over at him. "Thanks, Dougie."
"But that's still strange. A total body switch." Douglas commented while pointing at the two of us and then at each of us.
"Switch us back, Des. I don't want to be stuck like... you." Bree spoke up, her arms folded across her chest.
"Hey, you being me should feel like a privilege because I'm so awesome." I remark, my arms also folded across my chest as I smile at her.
"Well, it's not. I don't want to be you because... death seems to follow you. You get your family hurt or killed. And I don't want that- that guilt of those actions." She let slip out.
"Bree, that's not-" Douglas started.
"No, she's right but she's also wrong." I cut him off, not moving my gaze off of her, "You can't seem to let that go, huh? I make mistakes, Bree. I'm not perfect!"
"You act like you're the victim. Yeah, you are like my sister, but sometimes, you act like you're not my friend. You're so selfish and in your own world that you don't even stop to think about your consequences." Bree remarked with a small scoff.
"Really? I'm the one who's selfish? I'm the one who doesn't act like a friend?" I comment. "Man, you really don't get me or understand me at all if you think that. And I don't want you to, not anymore." I start to perform the spell again, repeating the actions, "Bree and Destiny. Cambia Coporum, Meum Corpora, Sua Nominavi." But nothing happened.
"Great! We're stuck like this. Another one of your brilliant mistakes. Great job, Des!" Bree replied in frustration, making the room tremble then. "How do I make your earth ability stop!?
"You know what? No. Figure it out yourself." I mutter and super speed out of mission command, leaving her.
Bree glanced down at Destiny's heart rate monitor on her wrist to find that her pulse was elevated. Maybe if I just calm down. Breathe, Bree. Loud buzzing sounded in her head as she covered her ears, squeezing her eyes shut tightly. "Des?" Chase commented, stepping out of the hyperlift with the rest of the team, except for Des in Bree's body, and moved over to them.
"Actually, that is Bree. The two of them switched bodies." Douglas explained.
"It's true." Destiny inside of Bree's body spoke behind all of them, which made everyone look over at her. "I used my magic and did a spell that switches bodies, not one of my best ideas."
"And now, we're sort of stuck like this at the moment!" Bree inside of Destiny's body exclaimed, still covering her ears because she couldn't bear the loudness inside of her mind any longer.
"Why are you yelling?" Skylar asked her.
Destiny smirked and remarked, "Because she didn't realize that I have a war inside of my head daily and she doesn't know how to contain it." She folded her arms across her chest. "It's loud in there, huh, Bree?"
"Tell me how to quiet the noise!" Bree begged pleadingly.
Destiny flexed her jaw and looked away and back at her, replying, "Thought I was just selfish to you, Bree."
"I was wrong. I didn't even mean it. I was just so frustrated with this whole thing. I didn't mean what I had said. I'm sorry, Des. Please help me." Bree commented.
The room was still trembling just as a mission alert flashed on the screen. Chase looked at it and then looked everyone beside him. "There's a broken railroad bridge with a train full of innocent civilians on board. We've got to go help them." He stopped and looked over at Bree and me.
"Go. Save them. I'll stay and help Bree and figure out how to switch us back." I comment.
Chase nodded and looked at the rest of the team, saying, "You heard her. Let's go suit up."
The four team members ran out of mission command, leaving Douglas, Bree, and me by ourselves. "So, will you help me with controlling your powers?" Bree questioned me, sitting down on the bench, her back against the wall and knees halfway to her chest.
I fake a smile and nod, moving over to the bench and sit on my shins on the bench beside her; Bree squeezed her eyes shut again and halfway clenched her fists repeatedly while the tremors continued to grow more violent.
I take a deep breath and place one hand on her knee and the other hand on her shoulder reassuringly and began gently, "Listen to me, just me. We can do this. You can do this."
Bree grunted in pain and looked down at her halfway clenched hands and leaned her head back against the wall, moving her hands. "How- How do you do this all the time, Des? Put up with the loudness and these- these destructive powers?" She murmured with another grunt.
I look at her, squeezing my hand on her shoulder and knee reassuringly, admitting, "I just do. I have to. Because if I lose control... I'll be putting everyone at risk. And I- I don't want that. I don't want my family or friends hurt or killed. Okay?" I start, "So, I find my balance to keep myself in check. Sure, my earth ability is triggered by pain, my pain, but it can also be calmed by peace. You have to find your peace, your balance, to keep in control."
"And- And what's yours?" Bree murmured out with another pained grunt, the tremors growing even more.
"My friends, my family." I reply, glancing over at Douglas who nodded a little and focused my attention back on Bree, "Home."
Bree closed her eyes once more and took a deep breath, the tremors finally slowing down and then stopped all together at once. "I'm- I'm sorry, Des. I was a jerk to you... I've been a jerk to you. Please forgive me." Bree said.
"You're forgiven, girly." I comment as she laughed softly and hugged me tightly.
"I love you." She said as I reply back, "I love you, too." We stood up while I perform the spell again, "Bree and Destiny. Cambia Coporum, Meum Corpora, Sua Nominavi." This time worked successfully as we move back into our own bodies.
"It worked!" Bree exclaimed before looking at me again, "And, I understand you, Des. Really. You're not selfish. I never once thought that you were. I'm sorry what happened to your family, but you'll always be part of our family."
I smiled and looped her arm with mine. "Come on, we've got a train to catch." We super speed out of the penthouse after suiting up and head to our mission and join the rest of the team then.
