The three friends were back at S.T.A.R. Labs. Caitlin was now wearing a zip-up jacket over a S.T.A.R. Labs t-shirt and sweatpants. Cisco was checking her eyes and temperature. Next to her, Y/N gently held her hand, running his thumb over her knuckles.
Y/N: How do you feel?
Caitlin: Warm. Like me.
She gave him a soft smile with Y/N smiling back and squeezing her hand. She looked down at their connected hands, glad to finally be reciprocated by someone she liked.
Cisco: Your pupils are perfectly normal. Temperature is good if not a little cold. Everything seems normal for you.
Caitlin: I can still feel her in me, somewhere. She's trying to claw out.
Y/N: We won't let that happen. We won't let you go again.
She looked between her two friends, smiling.
Caitlin: Thanks, guys. Thanks for bringing me back.
Cisco: Anytime. We aren't team Flash without Caitlin Snow.
The three brought each other in for a group hug, happy to be together once more. Now, they felt ready for whatever was ahead. Caitlin loved being in the warmth of her two friends, sinking into them. After a bit, they all separated.
Y/N: Speaking of Team Flash, I think it's time we get our founding father back.
Cisco: Agreed. I'm ready to kick some gorilla butt.
The two of them turned to grab their stuff when Caitlin quickly stood up, her eyes going wide.
Caitlin: Wait! You can't go!
The two of them turned around.
Caitlin: Eiling, he's insane. He'll wipe us all out.
Y/N and Cisco put out their arms, gently getting the girl to sit back down.
Cisco: Okay, easy now, girlfriend. What are you on about?
Caitlin looked between the two of them, her face showing concern. She took a deep breath and explained.
Caitlin: I wasn't completely blind when Frost took over. It was like I was peeking over my own shoulder. I could make out a few things.
Y/N: What did you see?
Caitlin looked at him, her eyes showing worry and fear.
Caitlin: Eiling, he's created an army. Drones with a single target: meta-humans. Good, bad, it doesn't matter. All will be exterminated. And he's not done there. He has Grodd under his influence. They're working on something bigger. He's... he's insane.
Y/N and Cisco looked at one another and back at her. This was bad. Not only were the villainous meta-humans they'd been locking up in danger, but so were the good ones out on the streets, including themselves.
Caitlin: You can't beat him, not like this. We're up against impossible odds.
Y/N could see the worry on her face. He crouched down, placing his hand gently on her knee.
Y/N: Cait, you know when it comes to the impossible, that's where we shine. This team, we've faced so many threats with the odds set against us. We can beat this, too.
Caitlin: But Y/N, the last time you faced him, you nearly died. I don't want to have face that thought. Not again. I can't lose someone I care about.
She placed her hand in his. He squeezed it gently, reassuring her.
Y/N: But this time is different. This time, there's two of us.
He looked over at Cisco who nodded. The two were ready to go out and fight together on the field, whether it meant victory or death trying. Caitlin looked at them, a gentle smile returning to her face.
Caitlin: Three. Three of us.
The other two looked at her, smiling back and nodding. Cisco stepped over to them, pondering their situation.
Cisco: So, we're up against an army of drones. Sounds about right for our rogues gallery. What about Wells? What does Grodd want with him?
Caitlin: Grodd blames Wells for what he's become. He's alone and scared. He's lashing out against those he believed wronged him.
Y/N: What about Eiling? Wasn't the one who authorized Grodd's experimentation in the first place? Why isn't Grodd made at him?
Caitlin thought for a moment. She then quickly stood up, switching to her professional, scientist form.
Caitlin: I was thinking about that. Why did Grodd come for me? Why me specifically?
Cisco: You have seen King Kong, right? Maybe our gorilla friend was just looking for his Ann Darrow.
Caitlin: No, there's something more to it. I was trying to wrap my head around it for ages, but I then realized what it was. Grodd called me troubled, that Frost was who I needed to become. I don't think it was just about becoming Frost. I think he was trying to make me whole again.
The two men in the room looked at her in confusion, not following along.
Caitlin: Frost is more than my villainous counterpart. She's the manifestation of my anger, trauma, bad memories. A part of me I wished to conceal.
Y/N: Right. What's this have to do with Grodd?
Caitlin: I think that what Grodd went through was so traumatic that he buried it deep within himself. Sorta like a psychological fit for survival. He's forgotten exactly who caused him harm and can only remember Wells' involvement. He's connected the wrong dots because he doesn't have all the pieces.
The other two men were starting to realize what she meant. They looked between themselves and back at her.
Cisco: When Grodd attacked my mind, I saw flashes of memories. Painful memories.
Y/N: Same. There were doctors and scientists attacking my, his, body.
Caitlin: Those are the core memories that seem to drive Grodd's rage. But if we can make him remember the whole picture...
Y/N: We may be able to sway him to our side.
Cisco: Okay, how do we do that?
Caitlin thought silently for a moment, biting her lip. Y/N saw the mannerism and knew what she was thinking of was probably a bad idea.
Y/N: Cait...
Caitlin: Get me close to him.
Cisco: Excuse me?
Y/N: What?!
Caitlin: I was there. I have the rest of the memories Grodd needs. If I can talk to him, convince him to look at those memories, he may see what he's doing is wrong.
The others were silent, still staring at her in shock. After a moment, Cisco held up his fingers in protest.
Cisco: No, absolutely not.
Caitlin: Cisco, you know more than anyone that this is a long shot, but it may be the only chance we have.
Y/N: Why? Why does it have to be you?
Caitlin: Because Grodd trusts me. I need to do this.
She paused before continuing.
Caitlin: I need to make peace with my demons.
Y/N and Cisco went wide eyed, looking between one another. They knew exactly what she was insinuating.
Y/N: Cait, you don't have to. You don't have to take that chance.
Caitlin: Yes, I do. She's a part of me now, whether I like it or not. I've been denying that for too long. If I'm going to do this, I need to be one-hundred percent sure.
Y/N: Caitlin, we just got you back. Are you sure you want to go through that again?
Caitlin: I have to try.
Y/N sighed, nodding his head. He looked at the woman he loved and gently exhaled.
Y/N: Okay.
Caitlin nodded. Cisco thought what they were doing was crazy, but went along with it anyway.
Cisco: Okay, how do you talk to her?
Caitlin: I can still feel her in the back of my mind. I need to find some way of opening my mind, expanding my vision to her point of view.
She looked around the lab to see if they had anything that may work. Cisco thought for a moment and realized what they could use. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his Vibe goggles.
Cisco: Here. We can use these. They help me focus and expand my powers, allowing me to look in on specific events and locations.
Caitlin took the glasses, eyeing them in her hand.
Caitlin: Okay. This could work.
She gently sat down back in her chair and grabbed a handheld mirror. Y/N and Cisco stood on either side of her. Y/N put his hand on her shoulder.
Y/N: We'll be right beside you the whole time.
She nodded to him, exhaling deeply. Taking a few deep breaths, Caitlin put the goggles on and looked into the mirror. She focused on just a few painful memories, not enough to fully change her.
Looking into the mirror, her reflection seemed to change. Even though Caitlin remained the same, her mirror image appeared to become paler, the brown hair becoming white. Her changed reflection smirked back at her with a curled lip.
Frost: Hello, Caity.
Caitlin: Frost.
Frost: Say, it's getting pretty cramped in here and you look exhausted. What do you say I take over for a bit and we can have some real fun? I'm sure I can find a way to please your new boy toy.
Caitlin: We need your help.
Frost: Grodd's state of mind. I heard.
Caitlin: Then you know what will happen if Eiling wins.
Frost: Yeah. Why bother? We can skip town, lay low someplace cool. I'm thinking Gotham. I hear that place has quite the cool crowd to run with.
Caitlin's face grew stern as she talked with her alter ego.
Caitlin: Listen, you're a part of me and I'm a part of you. We do this together now. We can stop Eiling. But to do that, we need your help.
Frost scoffed, cocking her head to the side.
Caitlin: Hey, I don't like this anymore than you do. We're polar opposites stuck in the same body. But I need you, Frost. I've been denying it for too long. This is who we are. This is our chance to be something more.
Frost looked at her, a smile spreading once more across her lips.
Frost: That speedy devil is definitely growing on you. I like it.
Caitlin: Are you in? Will you help us?
Frost thought for a moment. She then grunted her response.
Frost: Fine. I guess I can play nice for a little bit. Anything for you, Caity, dear.
Caitlin nodded, putting down the mirror and taking off the goggles. She looked at her two friends, letting them know she was ready. Y/N and Cisco walked in front of Caitlin, ready to act if necessary.
Caitlin stood up and concentrated. Her eyes turned white, her hair slowly turning the same color. Her skin became paler and her pink lips turned a deep blue. Frost smirked as she took back control. She stretched before looking down at what she was wearing and groaning.
Frost: Ah, sweety, we have got to talk about your wardrobe choice. Good thing I'm here.
She looked up to see the two men standing in front of her, both with serious faces on.
Frost: What are you boys looking at? Like what you see?
Y/N: Are you going to help us defeat Eiling?
Frost: Oh, Big Red, look at you. Always business, business, business around me. Why can't you relax like you do around Caity? This is still the same body after all. Maybe we can put that speed of yours to more... practical use.
Cisco: Answer the question. And no frozen hearts this time, Frozone.
Frost rolled her eyes. She looked back at Y/N who still showed a stern look on his face.
Frost: Alright! No tricks, I promise. I will be on your boys suicide brigade.
Y/N nodded, accepting her answer.
Y/N: Then I guess it's up to the three of us.
Barry: Five.
Turning around, Y/N saw Barry and Joe walk unexpectedly into the cortex room. Upon seeing Killer Frost, Joe pulled out his gun. Y/N held up his hand, motioning him to stand down.
Y/N: It's alright! It's okay. She's on our side.
He turned back to the cold woman.
Y/N: Are you? On our side?
Frost rolled her eyes again, scoffing at the man in red.
Frost: Look, I think this plan is stupid, even for you guys. But, seeing as how I may die anyway, what the hell? Might as well take some freaks down with me.
The others nodded to her. Y/N turned back around to his two family members.
Y/N: What are you guys doing here?
Barry: You need callouts. We know this city better than anyone.
Joe: Plus, you three may need some help from law enforcement if you want to take down Eiling.
Y/N nodded to them, smiling at their help. Frost suddenly blurted out an order.
Frost: They'll strike first near the docks! You need police to get all those poor civilians out of there before any damage can occur.
The others all turned to her, taken off guard by her sudden care for others. Frost pointed to her head, twirling her finger in little circles.
Frost: Caity was shouting at me to say that. It was the only way I could shut her up.
Y/N nodded. Maybe this could work. He looked at his team.
Y/N: Alright. Let's do this. Let's save this city.
