Y/N: (narrating) I need you to do me one thing. Believe in the impossible, because this is a story about how the impossible became very real. I know it may sound hard to believe. I know that sentence may have sounded a bit corny. But trust me on this. I also know what you're thinking. "Yeah, yeah. I know the story about the fast man in red with the lightning bolt on his chest. I've heard it all before." But this is different. This is my story. And my story goes a little bit differently. And through all the ups and downs, I know one thing. My name is Y/N L/N and I am the fastest man alive. I am the Flash.
Date: September 22, 2014
Y/N L/N stepped out of CC Jitters with a tray of coffee in his hand. He looked down at his watch and began sprinting towards the Central City Police Department. After just a few blocks, he was out of breath and panting.
The 22 year old stepped through the doors to the station. He flashed his visitor's badge and was let in, not that he needed to anyway. He'd visited this place so frequently that he knew the names and familial aspects of the two guards up front.
Still trying to catch his breath, Y/N rode the elevator up to one of the top floors. He stepped out and nearly tripped on the elevator door. He fumble the coffee in his hand, readjusting at the last second and preventing a major spill. He made his way over to one of the officers working at his desk.
Y/N: Hey. I'm looking for Barry Allen.
Officer: Mr. Allen is working in his lab on a case.
Y/N: Cool. Thanks.
Y/N began to walk off towards that direction.
Officer: I just said he's working on a case. Visitor's aren't allowed.
Y/N: It'll be fine. If you have any complaints, take it up with my foster dad.
Y/N walked up the flight of stairs next to him and turned down the hall. After a bit, he made his way to the forensics lab. The door was wide open as Y/N stepped out.
As he stepped in, he spotted his best friend. Working at his desk was a young man about Y/N's age. He had short brown hair and a clean shaven face. He wore a velvet red sweater over a button up shirt. His eyes darted between his computer screen and the files on his desk.
Y/N: Hey. I've got the coffee you ordered. With how much caffeine is in this order alone I'm surprised you're not jittery.
Barry: Well I need it to work through cases such as these.
The two best friends smiled at each other. Y/N handed Barry his drink and took another cup for himself, placing the tray down on the table to the side.
Y/N: What're you working on this week, Detective Allen?
Barry grinned and shook his head at the joke. His face then returned to a more serious tone, back to business.
Barry: Uh, there was a shooting today. Joe needs me to process some evidence.
Y/N: Well that shouldn't take too long. You always were the fastest of the two of us.
Barry: I can tell by the way you were panting while running in here.
The both of them shared a chuckle. Y/N rolled his eyes at his friend. At that moment, another man walked into the room. He was dark skinned and had a growing beard. The man wore a dark suit jacket over his formal attire.
Joe: Well, if it isn't the man of the future.
Y/N turned around, smiling at his foster father.
Y/N: Hey, Joe. Got you coffee.
Joe: With extra sugar, I hope. Dr. Garrick give you time off work?
Y/N: I'm actually on my lunch break right now and we're waiting for our results to settle, so I've got at least an hour. Thought I'd drop by and say hello.
Joe: He got you working on your little crypto... conspiracy... whatsits?
Y/N: Alright, it's cryptozoology, and that is a side hobby. Right now we're working on a way to purify hard water without the lasting effects of residual radiation from a cyclotron.
Barry: It's quite fascinating, honestly.
Joe: You two and your science words. You need to learn some proper street-level English.
Y/N chuckled and shook his head. His life wasn't always like this. It didn't start with these two acting as his closest family.
Many years ago, when he was about 9 years old, Y/N had a loving mother and father. However, that all changed one fateful night. On a car ride home, the little boy and his parents were involved in a heinous car crash. A blinding flash of blue light had clouded his father's vision, causing him to swerve and lose control.
Y/N survived the crash, but his parents were not so lucky. That same night, Y/N's good friend from school, Barry Allen, was left as an orphan after his mother was murdered and his father was locked away as the only suspect. Having no kids of his own, Dt. Joe West, who was a close friend of both boys' parents, took them in. Ever since, the three had lived together as a family unit. It took some time, but the boys adjusted to their new lives, eventually becoming more than friends and more like brothers.
But there was something else about that night. Some mutual understanding between the boys. When the flash of light blew by the car, Y/N could have sworn he saw a humanoid figure dressed in all black running in the blue streak. Barry also said that he thought he saw a similar figure covered in blue lightning surrounding his mother.
Later in life, the two boys had chosen different but fairly similar careers paths, both influenced by what they saw. Barry had become a forensic analysis, working with the CCPD and secretly trying to find any information he could on his mother's true killer. Y/N, meanwhile, had developed an equally strong interest in science but also started looking into cryptids and supposed monsters, beings that were said to be impossible to exist.
More than anything, though, Y/N had developed a strong moral compass while growing up with Barry. Having witnessed the unthinkable, both boys became sympathetic towards anyone who was said to be in a similar position. Anyone who had experienced pain and hardship. Y/N wished that he could help them all, make sure they didn't experience the same pain he had to go through.
That was what eventually led him to becoming a lab assistant under Dr. Garrick. Hoping to learn more about science, Y/N thought there may be a way to explain the impossible using logical reasoning. He also hoped that his research could help further others onto paths of prosperity.
Standing in the lab, Barry spoke to his foster brother about an event they had both been dying to go to.
Barry: You still going to see S.T.A.R. Labs tonight?
Y/N: Hopefully, if Garrick doesn't keep me pent up inside.
Joe: I still don't understand why are you guys are so interested in this atom smasher thingy.
Y/N: It's a particle accelerator. It could revolutionize our very understanding of the universe as we know it.
Barry: Yeah. Harrison Wells' work in quantum theory is light-years ahead of anything they're doing at CERN.
Joe: You two are doing that thing again where you talk all science whiz and I pretend to understand.
Barry: Okay. Let me demonstrate.
Allen walked over to a white board. He picked up a marker and drew a small dot on it.
Barry: Imagine that this dot is everything the human race has ever learned until this moment.
Joe: Does that include "twerking"?
Y/N: Unfortunately.
Barry then proceed to draw a large circle around the dot, its edges being about six inches away from the small mark.
Barry: That is everything we could learn from the particle accelerator. It's a whole new way of looking at physics. It will literally change the way that we think about everything!
Barry was becoming visibly excited. Y/N was sharing in his excitement with a wide grin on his face. Joe looked between the two of them still not fully understanding. He shook his head at them.
Joe: You boys have got to get yourselves girlfriends or something. By the way, Bare, where are you on the results of the crime scene?
Barry: The results should be coming back about now.
As soon as he finished talking, Barry heard a ding come from his computer. He walked over to it with Y/N and Joe following behind. Looking at it, Barry stared in concentration.
Y/N: Oh, I know you've got it. That's your thinking pose. I can practically see those gears turning in that head of yours.
Barry spun around in his chair, proposing his hypothesis.
Barry: I think the Mardon brothers are hiding on a farm. The fecal matter I found on the street, it was cow manure, which contained traces of oxytetracycline.
Y/N looked over, seeing the confusion on Joe's face.
Y/N: It's an antibiotic.
Barry: There are only four farms in the area that still use it in their feed. Bet you find a really sweet Shelby parked at one of them.
Barry printed out a sheet of the given addresses, handing it to Joe. Dt. West looked over them before looking over at Y/N.
Joe: See, this is why we need you on the force. If we had two brainiacs working on this...
Y/N: Joe, Barry's more than enough for you guys. Besides, my brain is better suited in a lab away from the crime scene.
Y/N looked down at his watch, seeing the time.
Y/N: I've got to go. I'll catch you guys tonight.
Barry: Meet you at S.T.A.R. Labs.
Y/N: Hopefully.
Y/N was sitting over a microscope in his lab. Dr. Garrick had gone out for the evening, but Y/N was still loaded down with more work than he had expected. He was working on replicating the experiment for his boss in the morning.
Next to the table, Y/N had turned the TV on. He was watching the news broadcasting from S.T.A.R. Labs. They were just mere moments away from turning on the particle accelerator. Walking through the cheering crowd and up to a podium was Barry's idol, Dr. Harrison Wells. He wore a nice suit jacket over a white button up.
As he made his way to the podium, Wells passed in front of a stern army general. He had a cold look in his eyes with a slight grin on his face. The general's wrinkly face and grey hair were topped off by a green military hat. The founder and lead developer of S.T.A.R. Labs eventually walked up to the microphone.
Wells: Good evening. My name is Harrison Wells. Tonight, the future begins. The work my team and I will do here will change our understanding of physics. We'll bring about advancements in power, advancements in medicine, and trust me, that future will be here faster than you think.
Y/N watched the broadcast in anticipation but also disappointment that he couldn't be there himself. The young man then felt his phone go off in his pocket. He pulled it out and sighed. 12 missed calls from Barry.
Y/N put his phone down and rubbed his eyes. He then went back to his research. After some time, it began to rain outside. The news was talking about the downpour as the event at the lab continued.
Reporter: I'm Linda Park, and we're live outside S.T.A.R. Labs. Despite the inclement weather, which is only going to get worse, the torrential downpour has in no way affected the particle accelerator, which will be up and running smoothly according to S.T.A.R. Labs CEO, Harrison Wells.
Y/N looked on at the broadcast. Soon, lightning began to flash in the sky outside. Just then, Y/N heard the alarms blaring on the TV. He looked on with wide eyes.
Reporter: Wait, we're now being told to evacuate the facility. The storm may have caused a malfunction to the primary cooling system. Officials are now trying to shut down the particle accelerator, but so far have been unable to regain control of the system.
Y/N looked at the TV closely, getting anxious. As he watched, he then began to hear the pitter patter of rain behind him. Looking back, he spotted a pool of water on the ground forming from rain drops falling into the room. Looking up, the young man noticed the sky light had been left open. The water falling in may very well compromise the experiment.
Y/N: Shit!
Y/N rushed over to the sky light and began pulling on the chain to close it. Just then, the young man felt the entire building shake. The entire lab then experienced a blackout. Looking out of the window in front of him, Y/N noticed something concerning.
A large flash of light was being emitted from S.T.A.R. Labs. A plume of energy was released into the sky. It looked like a giant ball of fire being released into the air. It was then immediately followed by a shockwave of energy that spread throughout the city, plunging everything into darkness. The lab Y/N was in shook from the explosion.
Y/N: What the...
Y/N then noticed something extraordinary occurring in the room he was standing in. All the liquid chemicals around the young man began to float and leaped out of their jars. They levitated in the air as thunder roared outside
Suddenly, a giant bolt of lightning fell down from the sky, crashing through the sky light. It struck Y/N, igniting his entire body. The young man was flung back, smashing into a shelf full of different colored vials and chemicals. He landed on his back, lying there on the shelf.
Y/N remained still on the downed shelf. Cuts and blood adorned his body. He was unconscious, lying amongst the shards of glass around him. As he continued to lay motionless, a strange light of energy coursed through his veins up his neck.
