Cheryl had a few more practices this week because of the homecoming dance being very soon. Toni was alone with her mom.

Cheryl had an early practice on Saturday morning. Toni was eating her breakfast with her mom. She really wanted to talk about the kiss with Jackie. Toni had the redhead in her mind all time. She would love more than anything to kiss her again. But the fear of losing their friendship kept her from kissing her again.

Toni was sipping on her coffee, while Jackie was finishing her food. "Mom?"

"Yeah honey?" She looked at her daughter, ready. Toni and her mom were really close. They talked about everything.

"So.. Cheryl and I.. we kissed." She bit her lip, blushing slightly at the thought.

"When did that happen?" She was interested in her daughter's life, so she tried to make her talk more.

"After her away game last weekend."

"Sweet Pea and Fangs were here that night?"

"Yeah but, Sweet Pea was sleeping and Fangs was in the bathroom."

"Okay." She was happy for her daughter, she knew how she felt about Cheryl. "So, how was it?"

"It felt so right, mom. I never felt like that with Reggie. She's beautiful and her lips.. are just so soft." Her face lit up when she talked about Cheryl.

"Have you talked about the kiss? "

"Not really. Nothing really changed between us. She was more cuddly in the last few days. After everything that happened between us, Heather, and Reggie, she started to wear some of my clothes and I like that."  Jackie knew Toni was feeling something for Cheryl just by the look on her face. "Before we kissed, we were cuddling on the couch. It feels more than just friendship."

"You should talk to her about that, Toni."

"I can't. I don't want to ruin our friendship. She Is important to me. I don't want to lose her." Toni was scared of losing her.

"Toni. What you feel about Cheryl is beautiful. I think you should talk to her. You'll never know if you don't talk to her. If Cheryl is a good friend, I think she'd still be there for you if a romantic relationship is not working for you." She smiled at her daughter. "You should explore the possibility."

"You're right. We should talk about the kiss. We should talk about how we feel. I hope she'll accept me even though I'm not ready to be out yet."

"Toni, I see the way she looks at you. And believe me. I think she likes you a lot."

"Thanks mom. You always have the good words for me."

"You're welcome." She got up and kissed Toni's cheek before starting the dishes

Toni cleaned the table while her mom finished the dishes. After everything was cleaned, they sat on the couch and chose a movie.

Cheryl came home around lunch time. "Hey Toni, Hi mom." She seemed to be in a very good mood today. That was something Toni loved about her. She was always smiling. "I'm gonna call my mom and I'll be back after."

"Okay Cher, take your time." Toni couldn't wait to spend some time with the redhead.

Cheryl entered their room.  She chose some joggers and stole one of Toni's t-shirts. One that was too big for her but she loved to wear baggy clothes. She entered the bathroom and took a quick shower. The smell of Toni's bodywash was intoxicating. She wanted to just spend the day cuddled with Toni.

After her shower she took her phone and facetimed her mom.  She answered almost immediately. She missed her daughter. "Cheryl! Comment vas-tu ?"

"I'm good mom, what about you? I'm sorry I didn't call sooner because I was busy."

"It's okay. How's school?"

"Très bien. I have good grades and the cheerleading team is fun. My friend told me we have a dance soon. J'ai hâte."

" Génial! Are you going to ask this girl. Quel est son nom déjà? "

"Heather… No, I won't go with her. We are not together anymore."

"Oh je suis désolée. Do you have anyone in mind then?"

" Oui. I'm just not sure if I'll ask. I don't wanna ruin what we have."

"Qui c'est?"

"Toni."

"Toni, she's your friend with whom you live right ?"

"Oui c'est bien elle."

"I thought she had a boyfriend."

",C'est fini avec lui. She's beautiful, mom. But we are friends.".

"Elle sait comment tu te sens?"

"Yeah she knows. I think she feels the same. But she's not out yet." 

"Prends ton temps avec elle alors."

"I will. I like her a lot. I'm gonna go at her pace."

"Voilà c'est ce que tu dois faire."

"Thank you mom. I have to go. She's waiting for me. But I'll talk to you later. Je t'aime maman."

"Moi aussi ma chérie."

They hung up. Cheryl came back to the living room. Jackie and Toni were watching some lame movie. Toni couldn't help but feel proud when she saw Cheryl wearing her t-shirt.

"How was your mom Cher?"

"She was okay. She was happy to talk with me. I haven't really talked to her lately."

"Well I'm glad you got to talk to her."

Cheryl sat next to Toni. She wasn't really scared of showing any kind of affection in public. So she didn't really care that Jackie was in the same room. "What did you do this morning?"

Jackie answered. "We had breakfast, we talked and we watched a movie. It was an uneventful morning." She smiled.

Cheryl put her hand on Toni's thigh. "I bet it was still nice to have some time with just the two of you."

"Yes it was very nice." Jackie noticed how touchy Cheryl was and she thought that they might want some time alone. "If you'll excuse me ladies. I have to go. My friend and I are going to have a coffee." She got up and grabbed her purse before heading outside.

"So how was practice?"

"Hard. Veronica really makes us work hard for the halftime show. We need to be perfect."

"Well I hope she's not too hard on you." Toni rubbed Cheryl's arm.

"Don't worry T.T I can take it. " She smiled.

"I like it when you wear my clothes. You look cute." She smiled shyly.

"Your clothes are so much more comfier than mine. Plus it smells like you and I missed you this morning."

"Yeah, I missed you too."

Cheryl was a hugger. She wasn't shy of hugging or touching her friends. She didn't hesitate to take Toni in her arms. Toni relaxed in her embrace, she surprisingly enjoyed it a lot. "What do you want us to do today T.T?"

She moved her face from Cheryl's neck and looked at her. "Would you like to just eat ice cream and relax?"

"Yes, that's fine with me. Relaxing will be good after this morning. Plus I'm spending the day with Veronica tomorrow. She wants us to talk about the homecoming. She seems very excited about it."

"Veronica loves parties. She's always excited for homecoming." Toni was a little disappointed to not spend the day with Cheryl tomorrow. "Let's enjoy this day just the two of us before Veronica steals you again." She giggled.

"Yes you're right." She got up. "Come on, let's make some sundaes."

They spent the day just enjoying each other's company. They ate ice cream and watched some movies.

The next day, Cheryl had to leave for Veronica's pretty early. Around 10 she was already dressed and had eaten breakfast.

"Why does Veronica need you so early?" Toni asked.

"She needs help to choose her outfit and she says she wants to look at potential dates for the night." She said applying her red lipstick.

"Okay, well I'm gonna do my homeworks while you are gone."  She yawned.

"Maybe you should sleep some more. You look tired." She smiled.

"Maybe I will." Toni was sitting on her bed still in her pajamas. "Hey, mom and dad are going out tonight for dinner. Do you want us to order some Pops?"

"Yes. I'll go get it when I come back. I'm sure Veronica won't mind driving me there."

"Okay cool." 

Cheryl was ready to go. She got closer to Toni. "Have a nice day T.T."

"You too Cher."

Cheryl gave Toni a kiss on her cheek and left. Toni had a big smile on her face thinking about Cheryl.

Veronica had sent her driver to get Cheryl. He drove her to the Pembroke where Veronica was waiting for her. Cheryl got in the elevator and went up to the second floor. She entered the apartment. Veronica was waiting for her on the couch. "Cher! Hi."

" Hey V!" She sat next to her friend. "So you need to tell me more about homecoming. What is the dress code?"

"I would say Casual Chic. You can wear a dress if you want, but nothing too fancy. It's not like prom night."

"Okay I see. I won't need to buy a new outfit then. I probably have something that would fit the occasion."

"I'll do the same and take something I have in my closet." She smiled. "How's Toni? She wasn't too mad that I stole you again?"

"She's not mad. Just a little disappointed that I'm not with her today."

"She likes you a lot, you know. I don't think she was that clingy with Reggie."

"I like her a lot too. She's my best friend. I miss her all the time."

"Cheryl. You and I both know that you are more than friends." She looked seriously at Cheryl.

"I like her V. But she's not out yet. I don't want to pressure her. We are friends. I don't want to ruin this." She bit her lip. "What if she doesn't like women after all? She never had a relationship with a girl."

"I think it would be worth the try. But I get why you're scared. And why you don't want to pressure her."

"It's complicated. I really want her to explore her sexuality at her own pace. But at the same time, I always have this rush of touching her. I wish I could... kiss her."

"Wow. You really like her then." Cheryl nodded. "You know, maybe you could just ask her to go to Homecoming with you. I'm sure she'll say yes. You could go as friends."

"I think.. I think I could ask. I guess." She looked at Veronica.

"I think you should ask her."

"I'll talk to her V."

They spent the rest of the day trying to find a potential date for Veronica. She was thinking about Sweet Pea. He was cute and always had a crush on her. They also looked in Veronica's closet to find her outfit. Cheryl already had an Idea about what she should wear.

Around dinner time, Veronica's driver drove Cheryl home. They stopped at pops on the way. She ordered two cheeseburgers, two orders of fries, a strawberry milkshake and a chocolate one for Toni.

Toni heard the front door open. She knew it was Cheryl and she was happy. She missed her. She joined Cheryl in the kitchen as she was unpacking the food. "Hey Cheryl, how was your day?"

"It was fun. Veronica told me she wants to ask Sweet Pea to come to homecoming."

"Seriously? Sweet Pea would be happy."

They sat at the table and started to eat their meal. "She's thinking about it."

Toni took a big bite of her cheeseburger, she was hungry.  “T.T you eat like you've been famished for days."

"Hey! It's not my fault the food Is delicious."

They ate in a comfortable silence. They ate all the food. They were drinking their milkshake. "Toni, can we talk?"

"Of course. What do you want to talk about?"

"Well, since we kissed I think about you a lot. But I don't want to pressure you." She looked at her.

Toni was thinking about her all the time. "It's okay Cher. I.. I think about you a lot too. We are friends. Best friends. It scares me to potentially lose you if it doesn't work between us."

"Oh T.T. know that I'll still be there for you. Whatever happens between us." She smiled.

"You're the first woman I'm really attracted to. I think I need to take my time." Toni didn't look at Cheryl. She didn't want to see if the redhead was sad.

"Toni. How about we stay friends for now. And we'll see how it goes. Okay?"

Toni finally looked at her. She saw her beautiful smile. Those plump lips she wants to kiss. But she needed to take her time. If something was going to happen between them, it needed to be the right way. "Okay."

"Toni, I wanted to ask you something?"

"Yes?"

"Would you be my date for the homecoming dance?  We would go as friends of course."

"Yes. Of course Cheryl. I don't want to go with anyone else other than you."

"Parfait! You'll have to dance with me though."

"Come on, you know I don't dance Cher."

Cheryl had that pout on her face and Toni could never say no to that. "S'il te plaît Toni."

Toni rolled her eyes. "Fine, I'll dance with you."

Throughout Homecoming week, the students dressed for spirit week, as was tradition. Monday was pajama day, which was a great way to start off the week, in Toni’s opinion. Of course, most people, at least Toni and her friends, didn’t actually show up in what they had slept in the night before. They typically wore a pair of clean pajamas. Some people would even go out and buy a onesie and funny slippers.

Toni had taken off her tank top and shorts she had worn to bed and changed into Cheryl’s blue shirt and a pair of leggings. She looked at herself in the mirror and decided to leave her hair down for the day. Finally, she walked out of the bathroom to find Cheryl in a baggy long sleeved shirt and leggings, something she slept in regularly. 

“Alright, I think I’m ready,” Toni spoke up. 

Cheryl looked up from her phone and was shocked to see Toni in her shirt. “Toni, as much as I love your outfit, you don’t think people would say anything at school?”

Toni furrowed her brows and crossed her arms over her chest. “What do you mean?”

“You’re wearing my shirt...as something you sleep in. I don’t want people to put two and two together if that’s not something you’re ready for.”

Toni uncrossed her arms and looked down at her shirt. Cheryl was right. Was this something Toni was ready for? For people to assume her sexuality, or that she had feelings for Cheryl?

“Fuck it,” Toni finally said. “I don’t care, Cheryl. People can think what they want.” She moved to sit down next to Cheryl, who was on Toni’s bed. Toni took Cheryl’s hands into her own. “As long as that’s okay with you.”

Cheryl smiled. “I don’t mind you wearing my shirt to school. I just want you to be comfortable.” She brought Toni’s hands up to her lips to kiss each one. 

At school, Toni got a few looks from other students, but no one seemed to care. And if they did, they didn’t say anything. In reality, the only people that would know the name of the school on her shirt was Cheryl, Veronica, and their close friends. 

Toni definitely wasn’t surprised when she saw Sweet Pea show up in a red plaid footed onesie. She rolled her eyes at her friend who seemed quite proud of himself.

Tuesday was twin day. Cheryl was quite proud of herself. She had borrowed Veronica's Vixen’s uniform and somehow managed to talk Toni into wearing it for the theme. 

“I still can’t believe you made me wear this stupid thing,” Toni whined as Cheryl helped her to zip the top. “It’s so itchy.”

Cheryl laughed. “I didn’t make you Toni, you agreed.” 

“I only agreed so you would stop tickling me.”

“But it worked,” Cheryl giggled. “And we even modified it to make you feel more comfortable. You look amazing.” Cheryl moved to stand in front of the shorter girl who wore fishnet tights under the skirt, paired with black motorcycle boots. “And now, to top it all off…” The redhead went back over to the shared closet and handed Toni her leather jacket. 

Toni quirked an eyebrow, but took the jacket from the redhead and put it on. She saw Cheryl’s cheeks become bright red and walked over to the tall standing mirror. Toni was surprised to see how good she looked. She smiled widely when she caught Cheryl staring at her in the mirror. She really liked when Cheryl looked at her like that. She noticed it a lot these last few days. 

“What are you looking at?” Toni finally decided to ask, meeting Cheryl’s eyes in the mirror. 

“La plus belle femme du monde,” Cheryl responded, never moving her eyes. 

Toni caught a few of the words, but not all of them. She turned around to face her roommate. “I didn’t quite catch that.” 

Cheryl’s face was still incredibly red as Toni looked at her. With her boots, they were now at eye level. Cheryl glanced down to Toni’s lips and back to her eyes. “You’re the most beautiful woman in the world,” came out in a whisper. 

Toni felt like her heart completely stopped at the compliment. She quickly came back to herself, feeling like she had an out of body experience. “Then you haven’t traveled much,” was Toni’s response, followed by a small chuckle. 

Cheryl moved her right hand to cup Toni’s face. Her thumb moved over a soft cheekbone while she saw Toni’s chest rise and fall in her peripheral. “J'ai vraiment envie de t'embrasser ma chérie.”

Toni took a tiny step closer, so close that their chests were together. She moved her hands to Cheryl’s waist. “Alors vous devriez.”

Cheryl took one more glance at Toni’s lips before both girls started to lean in. It had only been a few days since Cheryl felt Toni’s lips on her own, but she missed this. Unlike the first time they kissed, they’re lips moved together. It was a slow and sweet kiss. One that they both knew shouldn’t go father. 

Of course, all good things must come to an end. Their bedroom door opened, forcing them to part. Toni flinched before clearing her throat, finding Veronica in the doorway.

“Shit, Ronnie. I forgot you were picking us up. We’ll be right out.” Toni sighed. 

“Hey, no worries. You look hot, though!” Veronica gushed. “You also…” she pointed to her own lips, “have a little…”

Toni’s eyes widened before she practically ran to the bathroom to find a mixture of her lip gloss and red lipstick on her lips.

Wednesday was Vacation Day. Toni borrowed a short sleeved, button up Hawaiian shirt from her dad, which was huge on her, but she made it work. Well, Cheryl made it work. The redhead had unbuttoned some of the bottom buttons and tied the ends together. It was now down to Toni’s waist and not almost to her knees. Along with the shirt, Toni found a pair of swim trunks at the Goodwill and paired it with some sunglasses and sandals.

Cheryl wasn’t too sure on what she would wear. She wanted something funny, but also different. She didn’t want to wear a large coat around school all day, as if she was going on vacation to a ski resort. The two walked around the mall on Tuesday night and decided to go into Spencers, where Cheryl found the perfect shirt. 

It may not be school appropriate, but she would wear a tank top under it, just in case. She had found a shirt that was just a shirtless man's torso, containing abs. Cheryl thought it was hilarious and would wear sunglasses, swim trunks and sandals with it.

“I’m really surprised Principal Weatherbee didn’t give you detention yesterday,” Toni told Cheryl while she waited for the redhead to get books from her locker. 

“So am I. But he said since I have perfect attendance and I’m on the cheer team, he would wave it,” Cheryl shrugged. 

Toni didn’t say anything in response. If Cheryl had gotten detention, Toni was sure she would have done something to end up there, as well. Or she would come up with some crazy excuse to get Cheryl out of it.
