The Coffee Shop

It was a Saturday afternoon. I was heading down to the cafe at the corner of Zimon Street. Zimon Street is a well-known street in Neodot City. It is a very bright and colorful street and is especially beautiful at night. Many activities happen on Zimon Street, but it is also where the most popular cafe is. My friends and I always go there every Saturday afternoon. The place is called "The Coffee Shop™." I know, what a clever marketing strategy. As I opened the cafe door, the bell rang, which alerted the barista.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite customer," she said.

I said back, "Good morning, Linda."

Linda is a bull person. A bull-person is like a Minotaur but without the human part, so a walking and talking bull. They have human characteristics, such as walking on two legs, but they are still bulls. There are all types of bull-people with different colors of fur. Her fur is blue.

"What would you like today?" she asked.

I looked at the menu, "the usual," I replied.

"Ah, black coffee. I don't understand how you like black coffee. I think it's disgusting."

"Well, I think it's delicious. You can taste the coffee flavor with black coffee."

"If you say so."

She went and prepared the coffee for me. I love the smell of black coffee. It might be my favorite smell in the world.

"Here you go." She handed the black coffee to me in a cup.

"Thank you," I said.

"My pleasure," she replied.

I went and sat down at a table facing the window. I waited a few minutes while drinking my coffee, and then my friend, Leo, came in.

"Hey, Leo!"

"Hey, James!"

I got up and bumped his fist.

"How are you doing?" I asked.

"Pretty good," he replied.

Leo is a bionic human. He has two robotic arms, a robotic eye, and other robotic parts. Because of his arms, the fist bump was painful. Bionic humans usually get robotic limbs because of an accident or because they are born without those limbs. In the case of Leo, he was born with no arms and one eye missing.

"Where is Leah?" Leo asked, "She normally shows up first."

"I'm not sure," I replied, "She might be running late today. "

As soon as I said that, she walked in.

"Hey, guys!"

"Hey Leah!" we both said simultaneously.

"How are you guys doing?"

"Pretty good," Leo replied for the both of us.

She sat next to me on my right, and Leo sat on my left.

"So are you going to get coffee or what?" I asked both of them.

"Right, we should get some," Leo replied.

"yeah," Leah reasoned.

They got up and went to order coffee. As Leo and Leah were getting coffee, Jak, another one of my friends, came in.

Jak is a bull-person like Linda, with blue fur. Linda is his mother. Jak is huge and tall, like most bull-people. He was wearing a pair of long jeans and a brown button-up shirt. After greeting me, he went to order some coffee.

After they finished ordering, they all sat at the table.

We are all 16 years old and go to the largest boarding high school in Midgard, Galicoa High. There are many different activities for every race at Galicoa High. Samurai have special classes for samurai training, elves take magic, and even bull-people have their own. Currently, we are on summer break.

"Hey, where is Ibuki?" asked Leah.

Ibuki is another one of my friends. He goes to the same school as us. He is a samurai in training.

" I have no idea," I replied.

"Must be late again," said Leo.

"Yeah," said Jak.

I looked outside the window to see if he was coming, but then I saw his older brother, Katsumi, flying in the sky. He flew around in circles before landing perfectly on the cafe's doorsteps. Samurai can fly. They do so by using a  type of magic that allows them to harness the elements of nature. You will soon learn that many creatures have different types of magic too.

Katsumi opened the door and came in.

"Hey, do you know where Ibuki is?" asked Leah

"no," he replied.

"Is he late again?" asked Katsumi

"Yeah," we replied simultaneously.

"Haha, that little rascal is always late."

"Well, I'm going to get some tea," he said.

"Okay," I replied.

After ordering his tea, he sat next to us and started talking about his samurai training. He's in level 3 of school and is almost an official samurai. There are three levels of school you have to go through: Level one is for elementary or middle school, level two is for high school, and level three is for college. Afterward, You can do whatever you want, although it does lean on your family background. If you are an elf, you will probably become a magic user. If you are a samurai, I'm pretty sure that's self-explanatory.

I made some sketches of them:

Leo:

Leah:

Jak:

Katsumi:

Ibuki :

While they were talking, I took out my sketchbook and started drawing.

"What are you drawing?" asked Jak.

The conversation stopped, and everybody turned their attention to me.

"I'm just drawing the inside of the cafe," I replied.

Leo, who was right next to me, looked over at my drawing.

"How come there's no one in it?"

"You guys already know I like drawing sceneries more than people," I said.

"You should try to draw some more people; you'd be great at it," Katsumi said assuringly.

"Yeah, you should draw people like us," said Leah, putting her hands on her cheeks.

"I already drew portraits of you guys," I said.

"Without our consent!" Jak exclaimed

Katsumi laughed. I knew Jak was being sarcastic; he always is.

"Why do you always draw anyway?" He asked.

"Because I hate it," I said sarcastically.

"You draw everywhere, dude, even in class," Leah said.

Even though different races have different classes, they all share at least one class: history.

I turned my head away in embarrassment. My cheeks were red like ripe tomatoes.

"Wow, even in class!" said Katsumi.

"Shut up," I whispered.

"It's fine, man. I used to be distracted in class just like you," Katsumi said.

I love to draw. I do it all the time, everywhere I can, even at inappropriate times. I might want to be an artist one day, but I haven't decided yet.

"He especially loves drawing the city of the sky," Leah said.

"Wow, you still believe in that!" Katsumi said

"I'm telling you guys it's real, and there's a way to get there."

"No, it's not," said Leah. "It's a fake story some weird guy made hundreds of years ago."

First of all, it's not a fake story, it's a legend, and second of all, he wasn't just some weird guy; he was a well-known author and explorer at the time, and there is proof that he discovered.."

"Blah blah blah," said Katsumi, "it's all nonsense. Everybody knows it's not real, and even if it was, how would you get there with some magic flying ship or something? It's all bull shi-" He turned his eyes to Jak.

"Continue," Jak said passive-aggressively.

He cleared his throat.

"It's all fake," he said.

Jak nodded his head in agreement.

"Yeah, the gods are not real, and so is the city of the sky," Leah said.

"Whatever, I'm going to keep believing in the truth," I said.

"So will I," Katsumi said.

The subject of the conversation switched, and we continued to talk for hours, cracking jokes, telling stories, and doing things that friends usually do. When we finished, it was about 2 o'clock. Just when everybody was about to leave, Ibuki came.

"Hey guys, sorry I am late," he said.

"I tried to fly here, but I fell from the sky, then something else happened, and a bunch of other things happened," he rambled on.

"Bro, you're very late; we finished," Leo said.

"Really?" Ibuki said sadly.

"Yeah, sorry, you were supposed to be here two hours ago, maybe next time," I said.

"Aw, okay," he replied

"We've got to go," said Katsumi to his brother.

"See you guys later," said Ibuki.

He then flew away with his brother.

"I'm going back into the cafe to finish my drawing. I'll talk to you guys later."

"Bye," they said.

I headed back into the cafe, finished my drawing, and left.

( sorry, the image of Leo looks strange)
