"Is he even here?"
"He said he is, but you never know with Charlie."
I shrug, tugging my suitcase behind me as Owen and I walk through the exit of the Florida Keys airport. It's a smaller one than I'm used to, especially since we flew out of LAX.
Regardless, it's not a big place and finding Charlie shouldn't be that difficult. Except for the fact that he's incapable of staying in one place, and we didn't find him where he said he would be.
"Joyner! Joey!" I flip my head around when I hear a very familiar voice yell as we wander down the sidewalk.
My jaw falls to the ground when I see the boy. He's waving at us from the inside of a van that looks like it's straight from a cartoon. It's bright blue with orange and yellow flowers decorating the sides. Charlie sat in the front seat of such a vibrant and big car is quite a site to see.
"Get your ass out of that van, Gillespie!" I yell at him, walking up to the brightly colored van.
He grins, throwing the door open before jumping right out.
Charlie runs over to me, pulling me into the tightest hug he can muster, picking me up in the air in the process while I let out a loud laugh.
"I missed you, little buddy!" He tells me, shaking my shoulders as he sets me back down.
"I missed you too," I grin up at the boy, watching as him and Owen embrace.
Owen has a big ass smile on his face, no doubt being excited about being reunited with Charlie again.
"It's good to be back, huh? Welcome to the Sunshine Mobile," Charlie proudly motions to the van, patting the side of it.
Upon hearing the name, I look over at Owen. He smiles down at me, scrunching his nose briefly.
"I didn't know it was named that until I rented it, but it's kinda fitting," Charlie chuckles.
"A little bit," I nod, peeking inside the van to get a good look. It looks shockingly roomy inside, despite it being a little small on the outside. The thought of being stuck in it for the next ten days doesn't make me feel sick, so that's a plus. I don't typically like small areas.
"Are you guys ready to hit the road? I have an itinerary," Charlie clasps his hands together, looking between Owen and I.
I shrug, grabbing my suitcase and throwing it in the van before hopping into the passenger seat. Owen climbs in the back, squeezing my shoulder briefly before flopping down on the perfectly-made bed. There's only two seats for actual passengers, so we'll have to take turns sitting in the back while we're driving.
I have a feeling that we won't be spending a lot of time in the van anyway, if Charlie has anything to do with it.
"So what's on the itinerary, Charles?" I question as we pull out of the airport parking lot. I cross my legs on the seat, looking to the boy.
"Well...." he starts, but trails off. He doesn't have a plan for the next ten days, but I really didn't expect him to have one. Charlie's the king of guy to just go where the wind takes him and see what happens.
"I knew you were lying," I narrow my eyes, letting out a quiet laugh. "Then where were you planning on going now?"
"Uh, I dunno. I was kinda just gonna drive until we hit a beach or something," the older boy shrugs. I look over my shoulder, seeing Owen lying across the bed with one arm tucked behind his head. I want nothing more than to go curl up beside him and pass out, but I'm not going to leave Charlie up here alone.
He flashes me a cheesy smile that I return before turning to look out the window. The weather is really starting to get warmer as April approaches, and it's making me so excited for summer and all the adventures that I'll get to go on with Owen, and hopefully Charlie if he'll be around.
Not that we can't do adventurous stuff now, but something about nights in the summer hit different.
"So..." Charlie starts after a few minutes of silence, besides the sound of the radio. "How's married life?"
"I think you're talking to the wrong couple, buddy," I raise my eyebrows and he smiles.
"I was making a joke, Joseph," he playfully glares at me. "How is it, though? We've been waiting months for this. I want details."
"It's good. Not that different," I shrug, flashing my gaze to Owen yet again. He's like a magnet.
He sticks his tongue out at me, making me smile before flipping around in my seat.
"You're so boring," Charlie groans.
"Sorry our relationship can't be of more entertainment to you, Charles," I roll my eyes, keeping the same smile on my face.
"Yeah, you should be," he leans over and gently hits my arm. I smack him right back, making him laugh. "I will say...it's good to be back with you guys."
"I'd have to agree," Owen speaks from behind us. I nod in agreement. "Look at us. Just three besties!"
I let out a loud laugh at Owen's last sentence. The three of us fall into a comfortable silence as Charlie keeps driving. We have no clue where we're going, but I'm trusting Charlie to show us a good time. He's always able to come up with something to do.
I start to feel tired after about half an hour of staring out at the window. While Charlie and Owen sing obnoxiously to a song that's playing throughout the van, I let out a silent yawn.
I decide to unbuckle my seatbelt and climb in the back, being extra cautious as Charlie drives.
"What are you doing?" Owen asks me, sitting up in the bed. I smile tiredly at him.
"Trade seats with me, I wanna take a nap," I speak softly, grabbing his hand to pull him up. He has to crouch down quite a bit because of the height of the van, but it's perfectly sized for me.
"Do you want me to stay with you?" He asks, holding both of my hands.
"No," I shake my head. "Go with Charlie."
"Okay," he nods, pulling my body into his for a hug. I sigh in content, pressing a kiss against his neck, just below his ear. He pulls away with his bottom lip tucked tightly between his teeth. "Sweet dreams, sunflower."
I lean up and kiss him quickly before nudging him to the front of the van.
"You two make me sick," Charlie speaks. Owen just grins, climbing into the front seat. I make eye contact with the Canadian in the rear view mirror. I flip him off with a sweet smile, he shakes his head in response.
I sit down on the bed and kick my shoes off, letting them fall to the floor as I curl up on the bed. It's actually really comfortable, which is shocking to me.
I scroll through my phone for a few minutes, but before I know it, I'm fast asleep.
•••
What feels like ten minutes later, I'm being shaken awake. Letting out a quiet groan, I wave my hand around to get rid of whoever is trying to wake me up. My hand comes into gentle contact with a face, and when he smiles I know it's Owen.
"Baby," he coos, crouching down to my level. I keep my eyes shut but feel him reach down and brush the hair from my face.
"I'm sleeping."
"I know, babe, but we just got to a beach. We're gonna go swimming."
"What time is it?" I grumble out, flipping over to my back in an annoyed fashion.
"It's just after four. You've been asleep for a long time," he tells me, letting his hand slip from the side of my head down to my hip. "We're gonna grab some food...are you hungry?"
"I'm starving," I mumbled, finally blinking my eyes open. I take a few seconds to adjust to the light streaming in from the open van door, also trying to do quick math in my brain. If it's four in the afternoon here, that means it's two p.m. back in LA.
"Are you gonna get up?" He asks amusedly. I groan quietly, sitting up in the bed. I don't know why I'm so exhausted, but maybe it's just because this bed is so comfortable.
"I wanna cuddle," I pout, letting my head drop on his shoulder.
"You're being awfully clingy today, bub," Owen grins against my head before pressing a kiss to the top of it.
"I know, I'm sorry," I smile sheepishly, tucking my head into the crook of his neck.
"Don't apologize," he shakes his head. "You know I love the attention."
"I need a swimsuit," I yawn, pulling away from Owen as I stretch out my arms.
"Oh, hold on," he raises a finger at me, reaching across the bed for a pile of what looks like my swimsuits. I cock my head at him. "Sorry, I figured it be easier to just grab these while I was digging in the back for our suitcases. That way you didn't have to."
"You're too good to me, sunshine," I grin, pecking his cheek obnoxiously.
"I think you just slobbered all over me," he whines, wiping at his cheek with his palm. I laugh quietly in response.
"Where's Charlie?" I ask, getting up to close the door to the van so I can change.
Making sure I'm out of view from the windows and windshield, I strip off my shirt and bra all in one sweep. Owen is sat on the bed, watching me with glazed-over eyes and his bottom lip smashed between his teeth. I smirk to myself, slipping into one of the many bikini tops he got out before throwing on the same t-shirt I was wearing before. I slide out of my shorts and into the matching bottoms, not giving the boy as much of a show this time.
"Hey," I wave my hand in front of his face, snapping him back to the real world. He smiles up at me sheepishly, pulling my body between his legs. His hands fall to the back of my thighs, keeping me tugged against him. "Where is Charlie, you horny fucker?"
"Can you blame me? Look at you, you're hot as fuck," he shrugs, once again pulling his bottom lip between his teeth.
"Where is the Canadian?" I ignore his vulgar compliment, reaching down to brush his hair back.
"He said he was gonna go look for somewhere to eat and that he'll text us if he finds something."
"Well what are we supposed to do until then?" I grumble, crossing my arms over my chest. "I'm so hungry."
"I can think of a few things," Owen gives me a sly smile, somehow pulling my body even closer to him. I end up losing my balance and falling down on top of the boy, which I think was his plan all along. My arms reach out to catch myself, falling to either side of his head while my legs fall to each side of his waist.
"No," I shake my head with a laugh. He pouts his lips. "What has gotten into you, sunshine?"
I couldn't help but make a joke out of the situation. It made me feel a little nervous, to be honest. Owen and I haven't had that kind of conversation yet. We've never talked about anything sexual, mostly because we were both dead set on being just friends. I mean, of course I've thought about it, but up until a few days ago I never thought that was a reality.
Now I just don't know. I haven't even talked to another guy in over a year, let alone been intimate with one. It's not that I've never done it before...I have, just not in a long time.
"You stripping in front of me," he purses his lips, making me throw my head back in laughter.
"Well, I am deeply sorry. I didn't think you'd react like a fifteen year old boy who's never seen a girl before."
"You caught me off guard!" He defends himself, still laughing along with me.
"Fine, fine. It won't happen again."
"NO. I didn't say to not do it," he shakes his head.
I just shake my head and roll my eyes, making a move to climb off of Owen, but he stops me. I furrow my eyebrows at him as he sits up, keeping me perched on his lap.
"You are unbelievable," I tell him.
"Yeah?" He challenges with a smirk that would make my knees weak, if I weren't sitting on top of him, of course.
Owen leans forward, standing up from the bed with me still attached to him. I yelp in surprise, clinging my body against his as he readjusts. My legs twist around his waist and his hands slip to the back of my thighs as he holds me securely. He looks up at me with a playful smile. I bend down, kissing him sweetly.
Just as I'm about to pull away from him, the van door slides open to reveal an angry Charlie Gillespie.
"Are you serious?" He motions to us, with me still wrapped around my boyfriend. "I've been texting and calling for like fifteen minutes."
The boy has his hands on his hips as his foot taps patiently against the concrete. I grin sheepishly, letting my legs loose so I land on the ground gently.
"Sorry, big dog. I have no clue where my phone is," I shrug, slipping my purse over my shoulder.
"Are you going to put those on?" Charlie points to my shorts that are still on the ground from when I changed earlier.
"It's not what you think," I defend with a laugh. "I'm wearing my swimsuit!"
"Yeah, mhm," he responds sarcastically while I pick my denim shorts up from the ground and slip them over my legs. "I'm really hungry, can we please go eat?" The boy looks between me and Owen desperately, but Owen isn't even paying attention. He's looking for his phone within the sheets and also on the floor around the bed.
"Yeah, go ahead. I'm gonna try to find my phone. I'll catch up," Owen mostly looks at me, but his eyes flicker to Charlie as well when he talks.
"Come on, Chucky. You heard the man," I grab the older boy's wrist and drag him out of the van, leaving Owen in there.
"You really couldn't stay off of each other for one day?" Charlie asks me, shoving my arm. I giggle, regaining my balance as I step back on the sidewalk.
"It wasn't like that," I shake my head.
"If you two are going to fuck in that van, at least do me a favor so I can stay far away and then never sleep on that bed again," Charlie shudders dramatically.
"We weren't- Uh, we haven't..."
"Really?" Charlie's eyes widen.
"You're acting like I just told you I killed a man," I roll my eyes, trying to change the subject away from my sex life.
"Sorry! It's not a big deal, I'm just surprised," he shrugs.
"We've only been officially together for a few days," I mumble, crossing my arms over my chest shyly.
"I know, there's nothing wrong with that. I was just...I don't know. You guys have liked each other for so long, I was expecting that to happen."
"Not yet," I shrug, pinching at the skin of my arm to distract me from this conversation.
"I have a personal question," Charlie looks at me.
"Nothing has ever stopped you from being too personal before," I respond with a chuckle.
"Okay, yeah. Are you a virgin?" He blurts out the question and follows it with a nervous glance.
"Jesus christ, Charlie," I shake my head, laughing not only at his question but also at how nervous he is after asking it. "No, I am not."
"Okay, cool," he nods, pursing his lips. I look over at him with my own lips pursed. The second our eyes lock, we break out into a fit of laughter. Charlie slings his arm over my shoulder, tucking me safely under his arm as our laughter dies down. "So are you planning on doing it with Owen soon?"
"Hey, buddy?"
"Hm?"
"Can we maybe not talk about my sex life right now?"
"Oh, right. Yeah."
"Since we're getting personal, what about you? Do you have any girls around right now?" I question, leaning into his shoulder as we walk.
"No, I move around too much for that," he shakes his head.
"Well, that's lame," I pout. I would love to see Charlie with a girlfriend, I think it would actually be really adorable.
"Sorry, Joey. Not all of us can find the love of our lives at age nineteen," he sneers jokingly, making me smile and shove him away.
"I'm twenty, thank you very much."
"But you were nineteen when you fell for him," Charlie practically sings. I roll my eyes, turning around when I hear someone running up to us. I grin when I see my favorite blonde catching up, a smile on his face.
"Hey, what are we talking about?" Owen asks, pulling me into his body so he can press a kiss against my temple.
"You and Joey's sex life," Charlie shrugs nonchalantly. I gape at him, switching my gaze to Owen who is smiling amusedly at me.
"I will end you," I threaten, peaking around Owen's body as he stands between us. "We were actually talking about how lonely Charlie is in life."
"Hey!" Charlie pouts and I stick my tongue out at him. He reaches around Owen and tries to smack my stomach, but Owen pushes his hand away.
"Hey, hey, hey, stop that. You're acting like children," the blonde scoffs. I grin to myself, looking down as I clasp my hands together in front of me.
Owen is the youngest out of the three of us, yet when you put us all together he's often the most mature. When it comes to maturity out of this group, it's either him or me. It's never Charlie, for obvious reasons.
"Where are we eating?" I peak around Owen's body to look at the brunette.
"I found a restaurant down the street," Charlie answers, falling right back into his normal behavior of practically skipping down the street.
Like I said....he's the least mature for obvious reasons.
