Stella's POV
It's 3 o'clock in the afternoon and Kelly is still asleep. I'm supposed to be at Molly's tonight, but I can't just leave Kelly like this. I could call Gabby and reschedule for another night, and they're probably going to think I got cold feet. Kelly's not feeling well at all, he hasn't wakened since this morning. I'm in the living room, and I go to the bedroom to check on Kelly and he's out. I gently shake him on the back and he opens his eyes, but quickly closes them. He said I'm sorry, the room is spinning. My hand is on his face, and I tell him it's okay, he doesn't have to apologize. It's worse than a hangover, says Kelly. It's okay babe, I was only checking on you. Do you need anything? He says, yes, you and smirked. Let me go get my phone and I'll be right back. I return from getting my phone and Kelly is sitting on the side of the bed with his head in his hands. Are you okay? I'm just nauseated, Kelly said. I bring the trash can closer to bed and he grabs it out of my hand and vomits. I felt so bad for him. I got a cool towel and placed it on the back of his neck. This is so embarrassing, Kelly says. Don't be embarrassed, your sick, I told him. I rubbed his back and he starts to vomit again. You want me to take you to Med, he quickly said, "No"! Okay, I was just asking. I hate hospitals, and I didn't mean to yell at you, Kelly says. It's okay, I not mad at you. Kelly lays back down on the bed and covers his face with the pillow. I'm taking the trash out, I'll be back. I grab my phone so I can call Gabby, while I'm outside. On the first ring, she picks up, What's up girl, she says? Look I'm sorry, I have something important to come up, and I really need to tend to it. Can you let Herrmann know, and I promise I'll make it up? Is everything okay, Gabby asks? Yes, I really need to take care of this situation. Okay, well call me if you need anything, Gabby says. I will thank you. I go back inside and Kelly still has his face covered up. I wash my hands and sit beside him, I raise the pillow up and he grabs it. Kelly, why are you covering your face? I really feel like crap, I just want to sleep, says Kelly. I'll leave you alone, so you can sleep. I get up to leave and he tells me not to leave. His phone is ringing and he asked who it was? It's Captain Casey. I answer it and give it to Kelly. I walk to the kitchen to grab water and a snack. I sit at the bar until I think he's off the phone and I go back to the room. Kelly asks me if I was supposed to be bartending at Molly's tonight. Yes, but I already called Gabby and told her I couldn't make it. Why didn't you tell me? I'm a big boy, I can stay by myself, Kelly asked. I'm not leaving you by yourself, Kelly, say what you want, I'm not going anywhere. I lay on the pillow next to him, and asked what did Captain Casey want? He wanted to know if I was going to Molly's, told him I was sick, Kelly says. Okay, stop talking get your rest. Kelly goes back to sleep, while I read a book.
It's 2005 hours, and Kelly is still asleep, I think I heard him moan. I checked his head and he's burning up. I check his temp, without waking him, and it's 101.2. I get two cool towels and place one around his neck and on his forehead. He doesn't budge, now I'm getting concerned, I don't want him to dehydrate. I forgot he got burned, I take a look at his wrist and it looks good no sign of infection. I hope it's only vertigo and nothing more serious. Another hour has passed, and his temp has not dropped and he threw up again. I text Gabby, give her my address, and ask her to bring an IV bag. I tell her not to say anything. She texted back and said she was on the way.
Within 20 minutes, I hear a knock at the door, and it's Gabby and Casey. Gabby asked if I'm okay, I tell her it's not me it's Kelly. She looked confused, I tell her I'll explain later. Casey is standing back, not saying anything. I think he has vertigo, he's dizzy, vomiting, and has a temp of 101.2 for the past two hours. All he's doing is sleeping. Gabby said the last time he had vertigo it was this bad, and he did not want to go to the hospital. Where is he, Gabby asked, I walked her to my bedroom and she sat beside Kelly, waking him up. He opened his eyes and said, Gabby, what are you doing here? I'm here because you're stubborn and sick, she said. He put the pillow over his head and says everything is spinning, my head is throbbing. He feels Gabby, cleaning his arm, he asked what are you doing? Giving you an IV, so you won't dehydrate, Gabby replied. Where is Stella, he asked in a whisper, she's still here? Gabby said. Casey motion for me to come and speak with him. I walk into the living room, thinking he's about to give me a lecture on dating Kelly. Instead, he says, Stella, I've known about you, and Kelly, don't worry about anyone else finding out. Gabby didn't know and she will not say anything. Loosen up it's okay, Kelly's, my best friend he couldn't keep you a secret. We both laugh. I know he's an officer in the firehouse and I... Casey cut her off, what you decide to do on your own time is no one's business until you make it our business. Don't worry you're in good hands with Kelly and vice verse. I'm glad you called, he's stubborn when he's sick or hurt, he will not seek help. I asked him how long had he known about us, he said I knew he had a thing for you while you were in the Academy. I look down at my hands and start to blush. I tell Casey, I really like Kelly a lot, he's been nothing, but a gentleman to me. Casey says he expects nothing less.
While Gabby is giving Kelly the IV, she's lecturing him about Stella. Gabby says Kelly, I'm going to do all the talking you listen to me, He says okay. She said I happened to like Stella, she's beautiful and good people, you better not hurt her. Apparently, she likes your stubborn butt, she texts me to come check you out. Kelly, when she came to Molly's the first time, I saw hurt in her eyes, so if you're going to add to that leave her alone. I know, how you can be. Kelly removed the pillow from his face, and said, I saw it too. He said, Gabby she's different, she's the one. Gabby asked Kelly if he was falling in love with Stella, he said maybe and guess what, we haven't had sex. She makes me feel things I've never felt for anyone, she's so confident, but yet shy. She's amazing, y'all should hang out, Kelly says. Kelly I'm still stuck on love, no sex, you have changed, Gabby says. He smiles because laughing makes his head hurt. Shay would be so proud of you Kelly, says Gabby, and they grew quiet. Kelly covers his face back up with the pillow and Gabby rubs his shoulder. She tells him she's proud of him and for him to feel better. I walk in the room and ask Gabby, how's he doing? She said, he was definitely dehydrated, but he will be fine. Gabby gets her things and we walk into the living room. I look at her, she tells me I don't have to explain, she gets it. I smiled and hugged her. Casey said they better get going, so, I can tend to my sick patient. I smile and thanked them for coming.
I go to the room and remove the pillow for Kelly's face, and he rolls to his stomach. I asked him if he was okay, he says not really. I guess that was a dumb question to ask. Are you mad I asked them to come over, he said, no, not all? Is that sarcasm or your being serious? Seriously he says, I stop talking to him and go take a shower. I get out he is asleep. I feel his head and neck, he is not as hot as he once was. His fever is breaking, which is good. I lay beside him and quickly fall asleep. I was awakened at three in the morning by the lamp. Kelly isn't in the bed, I get up and I hear my front door open and close. I walk into the living room and see Kelly stumbling with a bag. Kelly, what are you doing? I was going to shower, but I had to get my bag, says Kelly. I take the bag, put his arm around my shoulders, and my arm around his waist. Are you still dizzy? Yes, Kelly says. I help him sit down, and asked why didn't he wake me? He didn't say anything. Kelly, are you mad at me? Why did you call Gabby? Kelly, I care about you, your temp wasn't dropping and I didn't want you to dehydrate. You didn't want to go to the hospital, I wanted to make sure it was vertigo. Stella, I know it's vertigo, Kelly says. Why are you mad at me? Kelly takes a deep breath and says, I'm not mad at you, it's just the last time I had it this bad, Shay called Gabby too. I miss her and a wave hit me when I saw Gabby. I'm sorry, babe, he says, me too. I sit in his lap and his eyes are crossing. Kelly the room is spinning uh? He says yes, and I just want to shower. I wrap my arms around his neck and he lay his head between my neck and shoulder. Kelly shower later, you will fall trying to shower. I'm sweaty, he says, I need to shower. Okay, I take his shirt off and take all his shower stuff to the bathroom. I start the shower and walk him to the bathroom, I asked if he was sure he said yes. I leave him alone and lay on the bed. A while later Kelly, comes out and I told him I was so afraid I would hear a thump. I can function when it's not that bad, Kelly says. Why don't we go to sleep, it's very early? Kelly lays back down, and I lay on my pillow. Why the distance, he asks? I thought you wanted space. I never want space between us, he said. I moved towards him and snuggled on his chest. I listened to his heartbeat until I went to sleep.
General POV
It's been three days since Kelly came down with vertigo. He's starting to feel like himself, but he still has dizziness. Matt and Gabby had come over, so she left and went to Kelly's apartment to get him clothes. She has never been to his place, and it felt so weird. Then she started to wonder why he never brought her to his spot. They always ended up at her place. In the meantime, Kelly was complaining about not needing a babysitter while Stella was gone. Gabby told Kelly it's not about him needing a babysitter, they just stop by to check on him, and Stella took the opportunity to run some errands.
Stella arrived at Kelly's apartment and went in. The first thing she noticed was how cold it was, and she could tell it was a bachelor's pad. She went into his room and saw a picture of him and a pretty woman on his nightstand. That must be Shay, she thought. She gathered Kelly's clothes and other items he wanted and put them in a blue bag. As she was about to leave, she heard a knock at the door. She opened the door and it was a short brunette standing there with a ridiculous smile on her face. She said I'm sorry, I was looking for Kelly Severide, is this not his address? Stella said who asking? She said I'll take that as a yes, that he still lives here. Again who's asking, Stella said. My name is Renee, an old friend, is Kelly here. No, Kelly is not here, would you like for me to give him a message? She said, um, tell him I stop by. Okay, anything else? Renee said no, and left. Stella closes the door and looked out the window to see if she left. That must be an ex-girlfriend, she shakes her head and locks up. She arrived back at her apartment and she can hear laughter coming from the inside. She opens the door and they are watching Grown-Ups, she shakes her head and walks to the bedroom. Gabby follows her to the room and asked what's up, somethings on your mind. Stella looks at her and asked, who is Renee?
