One minute, you were happily walking towards Luisa and Mirabel, the next one, you were dragged away by Mirabel herself, towards la casa Madrigal. You were starting to get used to your plans getting changed today.
"Mirabel, I'm very happy to see you, but I would appreciate if you explained what you're thinking of doing."
"You believe me, right ?" Mirabel looks at you with hopeful eyes. You sigh.
"Yes, don't worry. Doesn't mean I wanna get dragged I don't know where."
"Sorry." she let go of you, letting you walking with her at a normal pace. "I think I know how to find out where the cracks are coming from."
"Uh. Interesting." your attention was shortly diverted by people giving you hilarious smiles. This Miguel story had already spread in most of the town.
"We're going to Bruno's tower."
You snap back to reality, grabbing Mirabel's shoulder. "The Bruno ?"
"Yes ?" she breaks free of your grip.
"The Bruno we don't talk about, and whom we are talking about right now ?"
"You got it right."
"I didn't know I was going to die today."
___
"I am dying." you whine, half way up the stairs of the gigantic tower.
You had categorically refused to help Mirabel break in Bruno's tower, afraid of the Madrigals' reaction if they found out. You were even surprised Dolores didn't show up at some point, but either she was busy somewhere else or didn't care at all.
But then, Mirabel said it could be dangerous and threatened to go alone, and you reluctantly accepted, not wanting the young girl to die. That would be a shame.
And now, you were regretting your every life decisions. How did you end up doing this ?
"You're lucky I care for you, Mirabel." you groan. You suddenly realize she wasn't with you anymore, that she had slowed down and was now quite far behind you. "God dammit, (Y/n). You came here to protect Mirabel, and you don't even check she's still with you."
You curse yourself as you make your way to Mirabel, encouraging her to hurry the fuck up so you could be back home for dinner. You had already skipped lunch, you were sure of that.
Eventually, you both made it to the top, your constant complaints motivating Mirabel to speed up so she wouldn't have to hear them. You smirked.
It was your plan all along.
It wasn't, in fact, but you acted like it was.
"Are you kidding me." you cried out, staring at the huge gap a broken bridge had left. You had climbed up so many stairs, for this ?
You were lost in desperate thoughts, not noticing Mirabel remove a rope that was railing on and throw it over a boulder, using it as some kind of anchor. You only notice when she calls your name.
"Come on, (Y/n). We can do this."
"As an adult, Mirabel, I declare you have to obey me and get away from this rope immediately." you panic, seeing as the girl already seemed to have made a decision. "MIRABEL !"
You stop her as she initiates a movement towards the gap. You stare into her determined eyes, pinching the bridge of your nose.
"I am about to do something very irresponsible." you grab both Mirabel and the rope, getting ready to jump. "If one of us survives, she has to tell the other's family about this stupid idea."
"Deal." Mirabel whispers, and you hold her tighter as you fling over the void, not even daring to usher a sound while Mirabel yells. Surprisingly, your feet touch the ground again, and you're still breathing, this time on the other side of the gap.
"How did we make it up alive ?" you pant as Mirabel stomps her foot in victory, causing a part of the ledge you were standing on to break and fall.
"Maybe don't do that." you grab the girl and lead her away from the edge, towards Bruno's temple. "Now, what does a vision look like ?"
___
"Uhm." You give the door that just slammed shut a suspicious look. "We're locked in there."
"(Y/n), look !"
"I am looking." You turn to where Mirabel points, the pile of sand in the middle of the room. Something green is glowing underneath. "Ooh."
Mirabel starts digging in the sand while you look around, finding other glows. You start digging as well, your hand grabbing something.
"Now what's this."
You were very confused, looking at a greenish shard in disbelief. Was this the vision ? You couldn't see anything.
"(Y/n), it's a puzzle !" Mirabel exclaims, and you rush to her side, giving her the piece you had found. She pulls them together, revealing...
"Me ?"
That is when the cave starts to shake, sand falling from the side and burrying the other shards deeper. You whine in annoyance.
"Mirabel, try to open the door or we die." You say, digging into the sand to reach the glowing shards. You had to have all the pieces to understand, especially if Mirabel was in the vision. You put all of them in your pocket, then rushing to the door, that Mirabel was struggling to open. The handle was already burried under the sand, and Mirabel had olunged her hand into it in an attempt to reach it. Which she did.
"The handle doesn't work !"
"Shit." You whisper as a threatening wave of sand lurks to submerge the both of you. You try your best to cover Mirabel with your own body, waiting for it to hit you.
It does, and, while it hurts, you still feel the sand below you slip away. The wave had opened the door, taking you and Mirabel out of the room.
Your companion gasps as she lands a bit to close to the edge, getting away from it to lunge herself into your arms.
"I'm sorry, (Y/n). I almost got us killed." she shakes slightly, and you stroke her hair reassuringly, still trembling yourself.
"You don't say. But, hey, we found the vision !" you get the shards out of your pocket, handing them to Mirabel. She carefully places them on the ground.
"What does it mean ?" she murmurs, troubled.
___
You somehow found your way downstairs Bruno's tower, hurrying out of it as soon as your feet touched the ground of the entry cave.
"Ugh, where are you coming from in such a hurry ?"
You turn to see Mirabel had walked right into her Abuela. The young girl apologized.
"What's in your hair ?" the old woman cuts her, noticing some sand you couldn't brush off.
"Hola, Señora !" you appear behind Mirabel, wearing your best smile.
"(Y/n) ! What a pleasant surprise." she genuinely smiles, surprising you. You didn't know she was so fond of you. It made you shudder unconsciously.
"Mirabel was helping me out with...some delivery, and she fell down. It was very kind of her to offer her help."
Abuela nodded, approving, looking at Mirabel, then at you again. An idea popped in her mind.
"(Y/n), would you mind getting Isabela for me ? She has to prepare for tonight's dinner. Mariano is going to propose to her."
You stand there, agape. You never occurred it would happen so fast. Why didn't Dolores tell you ? How come you didn't know ?
"Alright." you mutter, walking off and almost bumping into Luisa in the stairs. You don't even notice how upset she looked, despite Mirabel telling you about her sister's anxiety earlier.
The proposal was tonight ?
