Murmurs floated just outside of her consciousness. Divya stirred, her head pounding and her body feeling heavy - but it was ten times better than what she had felt earlier during the day. She tried to concentrate on the voices, but even a sliver of concentration made her head pound terribly and so she decided to just let it go.
"....regain consciousness..."
"....adapting...."
"....get more cold water..."
"...cloth..."
Divya hissed, her head pounding even more as voices began to filter into her brain. She tossed and turned around, the voices getting louder and slightly more agitated.
"...still..."
She gritted her teeth, trying to force her eyes open because god - the pounding in her head wouldn't stop. She screwed her eyes shut, before forcing them open - if only barely.
In the dim haze that was caused by both the migraine and the lights, she could make out something green...and was that a snake-?
Wait- a snake and something green-?
Instantly, her eyes shot wide open, before she groaned, closing them and raising a hand to press against her eyes. The migraine doubled, almost causing her to scream. She rolled over, pressing her head against the pillow - trying to count from one through ten over and over to get her body to adjust to the pain.
"Calm down now...it's good that you are controlling your breathing. Let me know when your pain has receded, alright?" A soft, gentle masculine voice floated through the air.
So it is Baizhu...how did he get to Wangshuu Inn-?
She managed a nod, signaling to him that she heard him as she breathed slowly. Minutes passed - probably around 10, before Divya finally rolled around with her back against the mattress. She squinted her eyes open, glancing back at Baizhu, finally not having as much of a haze as before.
"...You are...a doctor...yes?" She asked weakly, internally lamenting about how hoarse her voice was.
"Why yes. My name is Baizhu, and this is Qiqi" He said kindly, gesturing to the lavender blob the brunette hadn't noticed before.
She nodded once more, shifting to try to sit up. Instantly, the man rose, gently waving a hand and pushing her down.
"I'd recommend you to not sit up just yet. Your body is currently very fragile and has only just begun to acclimatize itself."
Divya would have argued, but when your head was literally screaming and you felt as though someone had just injected some sort of anesthetic into you, you'd naturally just want to lay back. Even then, the brunette murmured back.
"I didn't know...it was that bad...what happened...?"
Baizhu was seated on a chair near her head beside the bed, idly writing down notes on what seemed like a Teyvat version of the notepad. He looked up, his amber eyes softening at the sight of her - probably out of sympathy or the like.
"Hm...well, to begin with you've been unconscious for three days."
The brunette blinked, before blinking again.
"...I beg your pardon-?"
The doctor let out a light chuckle, as though the disbelief in her voice was entertaining to hear.
"You are pardoned. As I've said, you have been unconscious for three days. Your friends were quite worried about you"
...Oh my god I was THAT BAD-?!
Perhaps, upon seeing the stunned and disbelieving look on her face, the doctor took pity and began to elaborate further.
"Upon diagnosis, it seems like your lungs are - to put it in simple terms - degrading. Your other organs were not far off, I must add. This has caused your body to work over time to try and repair the damages, causing fever, migraines, and nausea."
Divya nodded attentively whilst simultaneously mentally crying about this. Thank you Teyvat, she didn't need another reminder about how she didn't belong to this world. Baizhu tilted his head, looking up from his notes.
"You don't seem all too surprised."
She slowly nodded, her gaze falling to the pillows as she spoke quietly.
"...A friend of mine in Mondstadt mentioned my body was...not receptive of elemental energy. I just...didn't expect it to be this bad."
The green-haired man hummed in mild curiosity, his eyes gleaming in interest. The brunette sweat-dropped at the intensity in his gaze. She felt like a test subject in some sort of crazy laboratory.
"Indeed, and this is one of the most interesting cases I have seen. Your body is violently rejecting elemental energy - at an intensity much, much higher than anyone else I know of. In fact.."
He gestured to his hips - and she blinked owlishly. Didn't Aditya and Poorvi mention about the likelihood of him having a vision? Was he insinuating that he had a vision?
"..-I had to remove my Dendro vision and Qiqi's Cryo vision the moment I entered this room, because of your violent negative reaction to it."
Divya's gaze reached back to Baizhu's and she was extremely sheepish and awkward about this.
"...I'm sorry about that.."
"What are you apologizing for?" He waved a hand dismissively, before placing the notepad down and standing up, his palm touching her forehead gently. He hummed in soft contemplation, before speaking up again.
"Your fever has gone down a bit, which is a good thing. It was one of the more troubling aspects of your condition."
The brunette almost didn't register his words, the comparatively cool touch of his hand against her forehead too comfortable for her to care much. Even so, she idly nodded and mentally noted his words. The doctor sat back down on the chair, taking a few notes before questioning her gently again.
"Do you know of any ailments you have suffered that may have caused this violent reaction to elemental energy?"
Other than the fact that I am basically an alien in this world? No sir.
Well, she couldn't exactly say that - but she also couldn't lie. She hummed, trying to phrase her words wisely.
"...Couldn't it just be..foreign?"
"Foreign? How absurd - pardon my words. From my examination, your body is no different from any other person on Teyvat. There should be no reason for elemental energy to be foreign - unless of course you have some other sort of ailment that I do not know of."
....Right...never mind. I can't tell him I'm not from this world...
The eighteen-year-old just decided to accept his words, before answering his earlier question.
"...I'm sorry, Dr. Baizhu...I don't think I've suffered from anything that should...cause this..."
Baizhu sighed in disappointment - should a doctor even be disappointed that his patient was healthy? - before nodding and giving the brunette a gentle smile.
"I expected as much, do not worry."
Divya sighed in relief and nodded softly. She then blinked when Qiqi crawled up onto the bed and placed a cold compress on her forehead. The brunette blinked at the zombie child, watching the rather cute undead staring at her with dull, curious lilac eyes.
"...Thank you Qiqi...?"
Would she even remember me thanking her-?
Qiqi only nodded, before sliding off the bed. The brunette sweat dropped as her gaze trailed after the child, before it moved towards the sound of Baizhu chuckling.
"Qiqi is a very forgetful child...I'm afraid your gratitude will be lost in 5 minutes."
She blinked, and tilted her head in even more confusion.
"...That doesn't affect my gratitude though...? Qiqi helped me, so I thanked her. I don't expect her to remember anything - or even acknowledge it. That isn't the purpose of me offering my gratitude..,"
It was the doctor's turn to blink in confusion. The twenty-two year old man tilted his head quietly, observing her carefully. Confusion turned to interest- and a hint of something else.
How mature for a young woman... The doctor thought, before blinking when the door to the room slammed open.
In came a rushing Lumine followed by a zipping Paimon - the latter of which careened straight into Divya with a loud wail. The brunette let out a small oof as the child essentially face-planted into her stomach and began to sob about how they were so worried she wasn't waking up and how bad her fever had gotten.
A couple of minutes passed before the brunette regained her bearings - and washed away the slight pain of the hit - before she gently calmed the floating child down.
Lumine let out a heavy sigh - much like how a mother would sigh in both adoration and irritation, before moving to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Do you feel alright? Does it hurt anywhere?" The blonde asked softly in concern.
"I'm alright..I just feel a bit dizzy and my head hurts a bit."
"Those side-effects will persist for as long as you are in the vicinity of elemental energy I'm afraid." Baizhu piped up, incredibly amused at the sight of the once screaming floating fairy now bawling like a child in the brunette's arms.
"I see...thank you Dr. Baizhu" Divya said, subtly dipping her head in gratitude before turning to the nineteen-year-old woman with a mildly guilty expression.
"...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you so much..."
"You should have rested when I told you to...." Lumine said grumpily, but with no real bite in her voice. The blonde had been too terrified to really scold the brunette - she had gotten too attached to her traveling partners to care about their stubborn nature.
The eighteen-year-old let out a soft chuckle, and nodded.
"You're right...I'll listen to you until I get better."
"You had better."
With a huff, the shorter woman laid her head down next to her friend pouting and burying herself in the other's hair - like a petulant child. The brunette sighed, now having to console both Paimon and Lumine.
Baizhu let out a soft laugh, before shaking his head.
"Traveler- Paimon-, I believe it would be best to let Divya get her rest. It is of utmost importance to let her sleep in as much as she needs to."
Paimon began to whine, her tiny arms trying to squeeze around the brunette's neck as much as she could and slapping the doctor's gentle attempts at pulling her away. Lumine instantly yanked her away, berating her for taking away the brunette's rest.
"Divya, don't worry about your commissions okay? We'll be covering for that, just focus on recovering." Lumine said in a much more gentle voice, to which the eighteen-year-old gratefully nodded.
"Thank you Lumine..." She murmured, before another yawn escaped her. Oh, so she would be feeling tired.
Ah...I guess sleeping in has its perks. The bed is comfortable after all.
Noticing the brunette ready to doze off, Baizhu, Qiqi, Lumine and Paimon all walked - or in some cases floated - out of the room.
The doctor gently closed the door behind him and after determining that the brunette would rest, he turned towards the blonde with a more serious expression.
"She does not seem to recall the wound on her neck, so it would be best to not bring it up."
The nineteen-year-old nodded once more, also a bit more serious. Whilst calling Baizhu, she noticed the scar on her neck - clearly from a blade.
Which meant that Divya hadn't actually rested immediately - she had gone somewhere and either got attacked or threatened by someone.
And Lumine was sure as hell that the brunette hadn't forgotten. Who forgets about the fact that they got threatened? There weren't any drugs or chemicals in her system either- Baizhu had checked.
But if that was so, why didn't Divya tell Lumine? Why did she hide it? Why was she lying to her?
