"So then i said that i'd become prom queen, right. And guess what she said back?!". Thera huffed as she, her brother, Emily and Zane all walked through the last few halls before their destination. Thad, Thera and Emily going to Yeva's lonely home as that was where their stuff was while the fourth drone tagged along purely because he had nothing better to do.
"That its impossible?". Zane shot back with a smirk from the other side of Emily, his girlfriend for once exercising her implied higher social status due to heritage and ending up in the most converted spot within a walking group of teenagers. The middle. Thad trailing behind and minding his own business while the other three talked, or more exactly Thera talked and the other three listened.
"That she's going to win?". Thad guessed, knowing how his ex acted when any sort of important event was to happen.
"Tha, yeah that. Lizzy said that she'd win by a landslide.". Thera answered the pair, rounding a corner and sighting the door they were looking for. A small rubber arch doormat placed outside, its black surface blending easily with the monotonous metal flooring of the colony hallways but also standing out due to its lack of sheen. It had only been put out last week apparently, Yeva for once doing something that showed her as alive to the population here.
"Predictable, sh, she always acts like.. like that.". Emily chimed with a slight stutter, stowing her lack of energy to show later and expecting an energy crash before 8PM.
The group stepping up to it and being surprised when the door opened automatically for them.
"Uhm... ok.". Thera inspected the door from inside as the rest of them entered the house to see Yeva out cold on the couch and understanding why she had left the door open for them.
"That explains it...". Thera said, Thad looking plainly at her before they all dispersed to do after school activities. The Vitrum siblings heading for their mattresses while the other two moved over to the dining table and talked between themselves, Zane making sure to close and lock the door behind him.
Within the next minutes the house became lively but just as quiet as it always was, all seven drones within it keeping to themselves or quiet as to not disturb the lasting sleep of Yeva. Her body getting the rest it needed despite not being plugged in to recharge, Thera believing it to be a simple matter of Yeva falling asleep to fast to get to plug herself in. The extension lead still on the floor and resting just as untouched as the purple haired mother was, Thad managing to half copy them as he laid flat on his bed and kicked off his shoes. Thinking to himself.
Doll wasn't here, or really. He hadn't checked if she was here because he was to busy thinking. What if she wasn't here and he just tried to raid Doll's room without any sort of consent, his father's and his own morals colliding hard with that idea so he discarded it for the time being. Asking Yeva was something he could do later when she woke up, for now he just tried to quiet his thoughts on his rather dangerous classmate. Thad mentally noting that it seemed the most fearful for any reason out of his school cohort were all girls, Uzi taking the cake with Doll and Lizzy following up due to having connections. Doll obviously for taking out a murder drone and then helping kill something that looked way worse while and he could easily remember why Uzi was dangerous. Meanwhile Lizzy had most of the school around her finger and this allowed her to do some rather crazy things, Thad stoped himself as he thought over that. She could probably successfully pressure the WDF into reversing Doll's banishment if she tried, certainly that was better then anything Emily could do.
Thad's mind then wondering over to if it was worth him asking Lizzy to do that. Doll was a, friend. Or so he liked to believe, he wasn't quite sure. Then, in comparison of course he had no problem with N. N seemed like quite the upstanding guy compared to his comrades who were exactly who had managed to land themselves in at least one restless sleep fear based nightmare. That dead and undead one along with miss pigtails. Those two, in all their ground hosted skin and bladed contaminant glutton farce glory had been the ones who just wouldn't cease their hunting of him. Every shadow hiding an angel of fury, the thought of cutting regaled his mind with visions of sheathed claws, gods above was he really this paranoid?
"Your thinking, yeah?". Thera cut his thoughts off, sitting on the edge of her mattress and looking over at him as she reached into her bag. Somehow managing to already have her boots off as she sat on her knees as Thera always did, just like her mom. Yet another thing for Thad to think about.
"Yep... What else am I supposed to be doing.". Thad eyed her before replying, watching his younger sister grab out one of her schoolbooks. The boy looking back up at the roof.
"Studying, helping me with our class project. Sleeping, actually... Just having a minute to think about everything is a good enough idea.". She scowled over at Emily and Zane as the pair stood and whispered between themselves across the room, watching as the pair somehow ended up at the dining table.
"Mhm.".
"Yeah...". Thera stated before turning herself around softly, sitting her book down on the bed and beginning to read though it. The pair spending the next few minutes in silence, a silence that was broken with a small hiccup from across the room as Emily watched Zane begin to raid Yeva's bookshelf. Probably to the disdain of its owner, which would explain why he was doing it when she was asleep. The boy scanning the spines of several neatly stacked books before pulling out random green covered tome of which was rather, large. Six fingers in depth with its pages ever graced by the signs of age, browning over the years and easily signifying it had been around long before the collapse.
"Thirty forty five???". Emily leaned over the table ever, instinctively making sure she didn't crease or otherwise disturb the red and orange diamond patterned tablecloth spread wide across the table. Honestly she was somewhat surprised that this family had something so, elegant looking in their household which she had hastily judged from the over saturation of carpets in the lounge room. Having not expected the lavishness that was present to be well, present at all upon first glance. The now dim and dying candles and their plates moved to where she was now to set mood for some cryptic reading, that had probably been abandoned before they arrived. A scrapbook laid out but closed upon the table while Zane pilled a second and third book to rest together with the first as they sought to pass the time. Emily watching with some mix of intrigue and cautiousness. Wanting to not be caught doing something against the sleepovers host, Yeva.
"Wild isn't it, a book. Well, smaller book...". Zane started before being incapable of finding the right word to continue, waving the object in one hand as he pulled it from its place haphazardly laid atop the shelf. Zane having to move a chair over to do as such, which of course earned him a glare from Thera across the room.
"Notepad.". Emily chimed in.
"Yeah that, thank you.". Zane replied warmly.
"Heheh, no problem.". The pair went briefly back and forth with their niceties as Zane replaced the chair and countered Thera's glare with his own, freezing when he saw Yeva shift on the couch under her swamping of blankets. The both of their eyes hollowing out for a second before she showed no further signs of movement and Zane finished undoing what he had done with the chair.
"A notepad from thirty forty five, thats years ago.". Emily adjusted her glasses as Zane, assumedly without permission decided that a deep dive into whatever the pages of this pad contained was in order. Only to instantly be met with hunting records, distances traveled and occasional sketches of scenery which appeared past the seventh page. Which made Zane hum softly. His girlfriend slipping around the table to sit next to him to see what it was, common sense out the window now that knowledge was on the table. Literally and figuratively.
Reading the note out to him, Emily began speaking, Zane having well quite the knack for butchering pronouncing things he had just read and thus avoiding doing any reading out loud if he could.
"And with my fourteenth day of travel coming to its close, my owner and i had come across something rather suspicious within the woods we had traveled. Again we thought, as with yesterday it was simply a trick of the eyes but only time will tell. I hadn't seen it and my owner hadn't been sleeping properly for the last two days. Determined to catch the iron boar we had been trailing before it could cross over in to government restricted territories, this meant that what he had said was to be regarded lightly. I should probably try to garner him some rest.". Below the writing was a sketch of a couple trees in a clearing, the distant concrete and wire fencing of the supposed government restricted area done in as pencil hatches across the lined paper. The next page having something else on it.
A photograph, full colour of a rather clear night and well preserved in itself. Surprisingly to both of them it was of a time before the collapse as greenery mixed with the tint of pink across some of the fauna was present. Fir trees and short grass mixed with faded pink moss across the boulders looking out into the forest along the edge of some sort of nature track. Within the trees to the left, almost hidden behind a pair of large stones and a much closer to the camera was a direction sign. A pair of pink ovals seemed to be directed towards the camera as they hovered within the void. Vague formation of something humanoid in nature below them, illuminated in scraps from its scourging bright eyes. Below was more writing, that which Emily had to collect herself before reading. Zane shuffling his chair over to be touching hers as they huddled together. Unaware of Thera's concerned look upon the pair.
"Time told, I caught whatever it is with my camera as we were tracking the boar late into the night. And well, we found what was left of the boar, of course hunted in such a way in which disqualified everyone from the competition it was for. My owner still clutching the specific arrow we were supposed to mark it with using his crossbow as we stood in front of the torn open wound in the fencing we had been skirting. Government ended up putting a fine on the event manager and not us, we're going home before it can find us again but i know it will find me in my nightmares... I hope it is not the same for my owner.". Emily exhaled softly as she pushed herself closer to her boyfriend, knowing it wouldn't be wrong to be worried over this. Then she noticed the authors signature signed upon the bottom corner.
"Molotov Deleire, owned by Roche Linus Deleire.". Emily finished the page, glancing over at Zane just as he glanced back at her. White eyes meeting blue as the pair took in all that information in concern, Emily's eyes blinking as she saw behind Zane was Thera. Looking at the pair like she was a vaguely disappointed mother.
"And.. while that is all interesting, maybe snooping through Doll's dad's past isn't the coolest thing to do without permission. Hmm?". She chided the pair quietly, one hand in her pocket and on her hip while the other one was palm out. Waiting for them to return the aged blue and black covered notepad as if she owned it, which was very much false considering the signatures inside. Both Emily and Zane grimaced, the white eyed drone chuckling while Emily pulled at her cross necklace slightly.
"... Ok yeah, but it's interesting...". Zane tried to defend, failing when Emily crumbled and softly pulled the notepad from his grip with him letting her do it.
"Sorry...". Emily apologised needlessly, fiddling with the notepad as if internally deciding on handing it over.
"Better you saying that here then to Yeva.". The green eyed drone said as she flicked her hand impatiently. Irritating the pair ever so slightly despite her being right, it would be exceptionally rude to let their host know they had been snooping. Thera more of the opinion that they shouldn't of snooped in the first place rather then it only being a bad thing if they were caught like Zane seemed to think as if frowned at her.
".. Fine, here.". He pulled the notepad from Emily and handed it over to Thera, almost instantly he decided to open the more general books to take his time up. Considerately less invasive of him but not entirely so, Thera ignoring it while she returned the notepad to one of the shelves of behind them with no particular knowledge of where it had originated from upon them and then left the pair. A piece of the past back in its place and the two drones at the table quiet as mice.
"So...". Thad opened his eyes and closed off the game of go fish he had been playing on his visor, pausing the application as Thera spoke. The older of the pair wondering what exactly she wanted as the black to silvery blue haired drone sat down on the floor next to him again.
"Where's Uzi?". Thera asked plainly, taking out her phone and idly using it to communicate with her project partner.
"...She's at her house...". Thad answered back, stopping his mind from over clocking with thoughts about earlier. He really wanted to tell Thera about that whole situation but they already had more then enough on them between school, their crumbling home life, a dead parent and a still undecided funeral date. No need to add the knowledge over a psycho goth chick threatening to kill him to his sisters list of worries, not that it was much to worry about. Uzi wasn't going to do anything. Probably. He was going to short circuit if this was all a plan to get him to go out with her, his irrational processors piecing together a theory that led to them dating as the outcome before Thad shut that thought down.
"Mhm, you tried to get her to come back?". Thera pressed, gaze softening as she took another look at Thad's tired expression.
"She's stubborn.".
