My eyes blinked open and I took in my surroundings.
Confusion temporarily scared me as I flew up in my bed. Suddenly I remembered what happened.
I turned to see Courtney sleeping peacefully next to me, her curly ombré hair flowing down her shoulders.
I propped myself out of the bed looked at the time. 9:07 am. Wandering out of the room, I began looking for a doctor.
After searching down the corridor aimlessly, I heard someone call to me.
"Sir, can I help you?"
I turned to see a male doctor staring at me from a couple doors down.
"Actually, yes." I said, waltzing up to him. "My friends were in a car accident last night. I was staying with one but they took away my other friend to make sure he was okay, I was looking for someone to update me."
The man nodded. "Of course, what was his name?"
"Ashton, Ashton Irwin."
He nodded and motioned for me to follow him. He led to a computer where he began typing quickly. I fiddled with my shirt and noticed I was still in my pajamas from last night.
"Alright," The man noted, snapping me back to attention. "He's on the second floor, which most likely means he's still being examined. We can head up there and check but I can't promise any visits."
I nodded. "Would you mind checking for me?"
He shook his head. "Not at all."
He turned swiftly on his heel and headed down the hallway, leaving me to follow. We snagged an elevator to the second floor, which ended up looking just like the first.
"Alright he was in room 248, so it should just be up here on the right."
The man told me I had to stay outside the room while he popped in and checked on Ash. I nodded and leaned against the wall nervously as he headed inside the room, leaving me alone.
After a moment, the man emerged from the room again.
I pushed off the wall and looked at him intently.
"Okay," he began taking a deep breath. "Good and bad news, which first?"
"Which is there more of?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Good."
"Okay, then bad news first."
"The bad news is you can't see him right now. You'll be able to see him today for sure, they just need to run a few more tests."
"Okay," I sighed, relieved that I didn't hear completely awful bad news. "Good news?"
"He'll be just fine. He has a concussion and he dislocated his hip, but he'll survive."
"He dislocated his hip?!"
The doctor nodded, rubbing hand along his jawline. "Yes. From what it looks like he managed to hit is knee on against something in the car, which pushed his Femur out of the Acetabulum."
(A/N I did full research on this guys be proud of me)
I blinked at him. "I'm not a doctor, can you state that easier for me to understand?" I asked.
"When he hit his knee on something it pushed his thigh bone out of it's hip socket," he told me.
"So what are the results of it?"
"The most common one is pain, obviously, and if you see him today I assure you he will complain about his leg feeling numb. It may be hard for him to move his whole right leg for a while, so we're putting him on crutches."
"Wait, we have a show tonight- can he play?"
"What does he play?"
"Drums," I said cautiously.
The man thought for a moment, as I looked nervously into his blue eyes. "We can do our best to help. We're going to reset his leg, and obviously give him pain killers. By the time for the show we can see how he's feeling and how able he is to move his ankle. But forewarning that if he tries to move his foot too much it can cause permanent damage."
I sighed and nodded. "Well, thank you for trying. When I'm able to visit him can you just give me a head up? I'm keeping my other friend company, she's just in from 103."
The man nodded. "And what was your name again?"
"Calum," I smiled. "Calum Hood."
"Calum," he grinned. "I'm Dr. Tré. (a/n my asthma doctor is named Dr. Tré and I always call him Tré Cool and he high key hates me for it) "I'll give you a heads up."
"Thank you, sir." I smiled, and headed back to the elevators to get back to Courtney's room.
When I arrived, I quietly opened the door to find Courtney scrolling on her phone. She glanced up at me.
"Hey hey hey," she said. "Thanks for ditching me."
I chuckled. "I just left when I woke up to check on Ash."
Courtney sat up suddenly. "How is he?"
I looked at her worried eyes. "He's fine," I noted, coming back to her bed.
She waited a tad longer. "Anything else?"
"Oh, I wasn't allowed to see him."
"But did a doctor tell you anything?" She asked as I sat down on her bed next to her.
I nodded. "He's got a concussion, and he dislocated his femur out of his acetabulum."
She gave me a blank look.
"He dislocated his leg."
"What?!" Courtney blurted.
"It's okay," I reassured her.
"No, it's not!" She whipped her blankets off and pranced out of the bed quickly. She jumped high in the air and cringed. "Cold floor, cold floor!" She hopped back onto the bed.
I chuckled and put my arms out. "Hop on."
A large grin spread across Courtney's face. She wrapped her arms around my neck and lifted her legs to let me carry her bridal style.
"To Ashton!" She cheered.
I charged out of the room carrying Courtney and headed into the elevator, still holding her.
"Have you seen him yet?" She asked, looking up at me.
I shook my head. "I wasn't allowed. I'm not even sure if we would be allowed now, but worst case scenario we just wait."
She nodded as the elevator doors opened on the second level.
"Wait," she paused. "Proceed with caution."
I chuckled and went into "ninja mode." I poked my head out of the elevator and then proceeded to tip-toe down to Ash's room as Courtney giggled in my arms.
I spun around a couple times did one jump as we landed in front of Ash's room.
I looked at the closed door, leaning Courtney down so her soft feet touched the ground.
I placed my hand on the bronze nob. "Ready?" I asked.
She took a small breath and looked up a me, nodding.
I pushed open the door and walked inside.
----
Dark. The room was dark.
I leaned over to my nightstand to turn on my lamp when I noticed there was no lamp. I fumbled around but I couldn't find my phone either.
Panic started to set in quickly as my eyes began to adjust to the dark. This was not my bed. This was not my room.
I pulled off my blanket and tried to get out of the bed, when pain erupted from my right leg. I grunted as my whole right leg went numb.
Stubbornly enough, I pulled on my now numb leg and heaved it out of the bed, so both of my legs were dangling freely off the side of the bed.
I pushed myself up and attempted to stand. With struggle- and pain- I managed to get my balance, keeping most of my weight -actually all of my weight- on my left leg.
Taking a shaky breath, I took one step and my right leg buckled, and the pain in my leg intensified. I yelped as I collapsed on the ground with a loud thud.
Tears of frustration cloudy my eyes as I pushed myself to a sitting point. I sat there and whispered, trying to understand where I was.
I heard a loud creak and the lights flew on. A lady walked up to me.
"Ashton, what are you doing out of bed, you'll hurt your leg more, you goofball." She picked my up, and set me back in my bed.
"What-who are you? How do you know my name? Why are you keeping me here?"
She put a finger to her rosy lips. "Shh," she whispered. "Here, I'm going to give you some medicine to help you sleep, okay?"
I felt a pinch in my arm and looked down to see a needle poking through my body.
"What-no, what are you doing?" I blurted.
My vision fogged a bit and my eyes grew heavy. I leaned back on my pillow and closed my eyes as the lady pulled the blanket back up over me.
"Goodnight, Ashton."
****
When I woke up again I went through the same routine.
I panicked, not knowing where I was, until I realised a little clip on my finger, that was monitoring my pulse.
Suddenly everything became clear. Well, sort of. I knew why I would be in the hospital, if my leg was hurting enough for me to not be able to walk.
But how...
I looked down at the blue bed sheets and heaved a sigh.
The door squeaked open and I jumped a tad. A young male doctor waltzed in and smiled at me.
"Hi, Ashton. How are you today?" He greeted warmly. When I didn't reply he continued. "My name is doctor Tré."
I sighed. "I hate to be that one person, but what am I doing here?"
Dr. Tré paused. He grabbed a clipboard at the end of my bed and flipped through the papers.
"Well, you were in an accident."
"What?" I asked suddenly.
He pursed his lips. "Ah," he said. "You might not remember, which it looks like you don't, because you have a concussion. Sometimes I'm a traumatic experience like that, that also involves head injuries, the incident can completely wipe from your brain."
"Oh," I stated. "What's the date?"
He looked down at his watch. "October 9. From what your papers say it happened this morning at 12:36 am."
October 9... I have show today. I strain my memory to think of anything I could remember since we got to Australia. We went to the hotel, Courtney and I started dating, we went the the arena, then Courtney and I went out. That's it. That's all I remember.
I connected the dots quickly. "Courtney!" I yelled.
Dr. Tré looked at me. "Pardon?"
"Was there anyone else besides me in the accident? Perhaps my girlfriend, Courtney?"
Dr. Tré looked st the papers again for a moment. "Yes, actually. Courtney Jenkins, she was in the passenger seat."
"Is she okay?" I asked quickly.
He raised his hands to stop me. "She'll be fine. From what it looks like you got the worst of it."
"Which is?"
"A concussion and a dislocated Femur."
I felt sick. "I dislocated my leg?"
He nodded.
"Well, did you reset it?"
He shook his head. "Looks like the doctors wrote down to do it at 9:35 in the morning, which, is in 5 minutes."
I nodded, as Dr. Tré placed the clipboard down. "Well, I was just checking on you for a visitor, but because they haven't reset anything we can't let him come in."
"Who is it?"
"Oh, I- er- didn't get his name. He was tall, has black hair, kinda looked Asian."
"Calum?"
He shrugged. "I don't know, I'm sure you'll see him today."
We exchanged goodbyes as I slowly waited for the 5 minutes to pass so my leg could heal.
When the time came, the doctors gave me medicine to make me sleep again, while they fixed my leg.
When I woke up, there was a large white cast wrapped around my whole leg. "Joyous," I murmured, glancing at the clock on the wall. 10:05.
For the last time today, the door creaked open and in walked the two people I actually looked foreword to seeing all day.
