So sorry it's late! :/
#############################
When I awoke the next morning I realized that I had fallen asleep on the couch. There was a blanket over me so someone must have realized I was down here and gave me a blanket so I wouldn't be cold.
I slipped upstairs and took a quick shower, making sure to smell good for my first day of classes.
When I was done with my shower I used a spell I had seen in a book at home to dry myself off. I have a photographic memory so when I see a spell in a book I can remember the wand movements, the words, and the uses for the spell. Its usually quite useful.
I pulled on my robes and used another spell I learned at home to tame my hair so it looked like actual curls instead of a rats nest. Spells like these are the only spells that I've managed to preform properly without blowing something up. Thats a good thing because I'd rather not blow up my hair.
When I got out of the bathroom, none of the other girls, except the one with the bushy hair, were awake. I muttered a quick good morning as I passed her and made my way down the stairs, keeping my wand in hand.
A few minutes later, it was 6:30 and we were allowed to leave the dormitory for breakfast. Classes don't start until 8:30 and most people probably get up around 7:15ish. But that's just what I'm estimating, some people like that bushy haired girl actually get up at a decent time.
I made my way down to the Great Hall only getting lost once, but the paintings were more than happy to help me find my way back.
I found the Gryffindor table and sat down. I grabbed a plate and put bacon, eggs, and pancakes onto my plate. Just what I had the morning I went to Diagon Alley.
I had brought a Potions book down with me and I had it opened in front of me when a voice sounded behind me.
"Good morning Nora. I trust you slept well." The monotone voice of my uncle Severus said. I turned my head and saw him. I quickly stood up and gave him a small hug which he returned with a pat on the head. He was my mum's brother although they are complete opposites.
Once our little reunion ended he walked up to the teacher's table and I returned to my food and book.
After a while more and more students began to file into the Great Hall. Soon enough, Seamus and Dean came walking through the doors and over to the Gryffindor table where I had saved them seats by me.
"Hey Nora. How'd you sleep?" Dean asked. I shrugged and swallowed my mouthful of bacon before answering.
"About as good as any night I guess." I answered. Both boys nodded. Seamus spoke up.
"Yeah. We noticed you sleeping on the couch so we brought you a blanket so you wouldn't get cold." He said quietly as if I was going to judge him for it. Well, that explains the blanket.
"Thanks! I was by a fire so I would've been okay, but thanks anyways." I thanked them. Dean looked at Seamus and playfully flicked his forehead.
"Told you she didn't need a blanket you dimwit." Dean joked.
Seamus looked a bit embarrassed so I tried to lighten up the moment by bring a small box out of my pocket. It was one last box of Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans.
"You guys up for another round?" I asked. They both nodded excitedly.
We played until it was time to go to class, then we all headed of to charms with Ravenclaws. I sat in the from next to Seamus and Dean was on my other side.
Neville came stumbling into the room looking like he had just rolled out of bed. Which he probably had.
I reached over and smacked Seamus and Dean's arm. When they both sent me a questioning glance I explained.
"Why didn't you guys wake up Neville? That poor kid probably missed breakfast and had a panic attack on the way down, thinking he'd be late." I told them off. The both shrugged.
"He just looked so peaceful, plus he had a hard time getting to sleep last night." Dean explained. My expression visibly softened. Poor Neville.
My attention was brought up to the front of the room when the professor walked up there.
"Hello my name is Professor Flitwick. Today, we will be learning levitation spells. Just swish and flick and say the words Wingardium Leviosa." Professor Flitwick explained. Okay. First charm I get to use. The hair stuff this morning was simple. Now I'm getting into the actual learning stuff.
The second I pointed my wand at my feather, that had been placed on my desk, it burst into flames, but mine was not the only one to explode. Seamus's had blown up right when mine had. We looked at each other in bewilderment.
I had never met someone like me before. It felt weird. Like I wasn't special anymore, but it also felt good, like I wasn't different anymore.
Professor Flitwick just looked astonished. I guess this doesn't happen often.
"Uhh. Professor? I think we're gonna need some more feathers over here." Said the boy sitting on the other side of Seamus. Well nah dip Sherlock.
"Well, I think you two should go clean up and be very careful practicing on your own." Professor Flitwick suggested. We nodded, took our things and headed out the door.
I had never felt so embarrassed. That was my very first class and I was already blowing things up.
I looked over at Seamus who had his head down. He seemed pretty embarrassed as well. Who knew that charms would be so hard.
"That was embarrassing." I heard Seamus drag out. I nodded.
"Yeah, but it happens all the time for me so I'm used to it." I replied. He looked up at me.
"Really, my magic acts up like that all the time. My mum hates it, but sometimes its kind of cool!" Seamus responded excitedly. I gave him a big smile.
We went into the unisex bathroom so that we could continue to talk while we washed our faces.
We talked on and on about what the explosions did to our home life. It was quite interesting to hear what other people had to deal with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"When I first started accidental magic, my family and I had to move twenty times in one month because I kept burning the houses down." Seamus commented. I covered my mouth to keep from laughing. We had been in here way after we had washed our faces, but we had left the class literally five minutes after it started so we had a bunch of time left.
"Twenty? I only moved twelve in one month! But that was only because of prying muggles." I replied while laughing loudly. Seamus joined in on my laughing.
Life had never felt this great. I had great friends, and one friend that could relate to what I've been through.
Suddenly in the midst of our laughter, the bell rang. I scrambled up to my feet.
"Oh shoot! Let's go! We can't afford to be late. Not when we basically just skipped class." I exclaimed with my teeth clenched at the end. Seamus stood up and walked swiftly along side me.
Whenever it felt like we were going to slow I would grab his hand and drag him along for a minute.
Finally, we reached the Potions classroom. Almost everybody was there except us. I blushed a deep shape of beet red when my Uncle Severus stood there staring at me as if he had been waiting to start the class until I got there.
I sat down in an empty seat next to Neville. Seamus sat at another table with Dean not too far from us.
Once Severus saw that we were both seated he started class. Although it looked like he already started class because there was a boy, the same boy who sat next to Seamus in charms, who had his head down and looked dejected.
"You alright Harry?" I heard Seamus whisper to the boy. Harry? Harry who? Harry Potter? I glanced over at the boy and saw the scar on his forehead. Oh my goodness, its Harry Potter! I need to introduce myself after class.
When I looked back to the front, Severus was writing something down on the board. I quickly took out a piece of parchment and wrote everything down.
I glanced back to see that Seamus had engaged in a conversation with Harry. I made a quick mental note to help him out with the notes later.
Soon enough, Severus had us start with a potion. It was an easy one, and I already had this one memorized. It was a shrinking potion. We had to work on it with our partners.
I turned to Neville with a grin while he looked terrified.
"Alright Neville today is your lucky day! I've already memorized this potion so this should be easy." I explained to him. I look of relief washed over his face as he realized he was probably going to get a better grade now.
We quickly started on the potion. I let him chop the rats spleen while I collected the pus. It was a very gross, but easy potion. Luckily, I had thought to bring gloves.
When we had set all the ingredients, in the right order, in the cauldron, it began to turn a bright green color. Which was correct. I let Neville stir the potion. Once left, two times right.
Once the potion had settled into a creamish color I was satisfied and poured it into a small vial to hand over to Severus.
When I gave him the vial he glanced over it and set it in the accepted box, while most of the other ones that had been turned in were placed in the fail box. I felt bad for them.
Since we were done early, Neville and I went out to the Black lake for a little while.
We ended up soaked head to toe because I tripped over a root in the ground and landed in the shallow banks of the black lake. Neville, in attempts to save me, tripped over the same root. So I, in order to not get crushed, had to roll deeper into the water.
Let's just say, Professor McGonagall was not happy when we trudged into her classroom soaking wet and late.
"And where have you two been?" She asked with a stern hint to her voice. We gave each other a look before replying.
"Swimming," I said at the same time Neville said, "Cleaning."
Professor McGonagall gave us a look before using a spell to clean us up. We quickly found a seat. Since we were there late, there were no seats open besides beside people we didn't know.
I quickly took a seat beside Harry who just so happened to be sitting alone. He looked at me a moment before turning his head back to the front of the room.
"As I was saying, today, we are turning beetles into buttons. It is fairly easy so if you get it, I will give you the counter curse." Professor McGonagall explained. I took out my wand carefully. Hopefully I don't catch the poor beetle on fire!
She walked around the room and handed out the small beetles. I stared at mine for a moment, then I pointed my wand at it and said the spell.
I flinched, but smiled when it didn't blow up. Seamus, on the other hand, was not fortunate and ended up blowing his beetle up. He luckily got out of the way of his explosion before if got soot on his face. I laughed quietly and turned back to my work.
My eyes widened as I realized I hadn't done the spell right, and the beetle who was now a button was walking across the desk.
Seeing my problem, Harry took my hand and guided it in the right hand movements. I quickly realized what I did wrong and fixed it.
"Thanks!" I whispered to him when he turned back to his work. He gave me a side-smile.
"No problem." He replied.
When that class was over we had a break. I decided that I would hang out with Seamus and Dean since I hung out with Neville just last period.
We walked to the Gryffindor common room and sat by the fire. I realized we didn't have much of anything to talk about because our brains were still hurting from classes so I pulled out a game of wizards chess.
I would say that they were totally awesome and I was crying in defeat, but that would be lying. They were terrible at it, and I dominated them all. It was they who cried in defeat.
Suddenly, an idea of what to talk popped into my mind. I called the boys back over from their crying corners. Lol, just kidding!
"Hey guys! Have I ever told you the thing my mum found out she could use to stop the explosions during my accidental magic?" I asked. They all shook their heads.
"My mam just made me light the fires then made me keep my hands in a bowl of water." Seamus spoke up. I laughed at his comment.
"Mine is somehow a lot weirder." I replied. Dean was getting a bit impatient with all of my pauses. I could tell, and I could tell Seamus wanted to know what was weirder than having your hands in water all the time.
"Okay, so my mum made me wear oven mittens whenever my hands would start to spark up, and if one of the caught on fire she would throw me another one. This actually happened recently at Gringotts." I explained.
All of them laughed as I launched into the story of how I caught a mitten on fire at Gringotts. My favorite part was the looks the goblin was giving us.
We talked for a little while longer before we had to head to our next class. The rest of the day went like that. We were late to a few classes. We sometimes had to sit by strangers, and we also got into a bit of mischief, which usually caused us to be late to our classes.
By the end of the day I was exhausted, and I still had a foot long essay to do on the uses of slug slime for Uncle Severus. Its the first day and he already assigns homework. Can't he give us a break!
I walked into the common room after a long walk from Herbology, which was my last subject of the day, and collapsed on the couch. My friends trailed in behind me with their feet dragging behind them like a zombie.
"That...was exhausting!" Seamus exclaimed as he collapsed next to me. I quickly pushed him back of the couch.
"Eww Seamus, you're all sweaty!" I complained as he climbed back on to the couch. I stood up and moved to an armchair next to the couch.
"I don't think I can take the pressure. I'll just owl my grandma and ask her to bring me home." Neville stated with exhaustion in his voice. I stood up and pushed him by the shoulders to the boys dormitories.
"Come on Neville. What you need is some sleep." I suggested. Neville nodded and let himself be guided by my hands. Once he was all the way up the stairs I let him walk himself the rest of the way.
When I got back down, Dean was gone and Seamus had gotten my potion notes out of my bag and was copying them. When he saw me, he jumped and scrambled to his feet.
"I wasnt- its not what- that's not- oh nevermind. I saw you writing notes down in potions so I thought, why not borrow it later." Seamus explained, putting his hands up in surrender. I laughed, which took him off guard. He had not been expecting me to react like that.
"Seamus, I saw you not writing anything down. I was going to let you use my notes anyways." I replied softly. Seamus quickly turned a light shade of pink.
"Oh." He stated simply. He held up a piece of parchment with the finished notes. "I already finished them." He finished.
"That's alright Seamus." I replied. Oh boy, what kind of friendship have I gotten myself into?
He smiled at me and began walking up to his dormitory. Before he reached all the was to his dormitory he turned to me.
"You're not that bad Nora. Probably one of the best people I've ever met." He complimented before walking Intl his room. What did he mean by that?
Best not to dwell on things before bed. Gives you nightmares.
I slipped upstairs and wrote my potions essay. When I looked at the time when I had finished, it only said 8:30.
What! I know for a fact its been a few hours. Did the others really go to bed that early? I guess they really were tired. I know I am. I just hope they got their homework done.
I stuffed my work into my bag, and without bothering to change I pulled the blankets over my body and let sleep surround me like an old friend.
