All your life there were ten fingers, ten toes, double the laugh and double the trouble and always one to have your back for the rest of your life... Or not.

"(y/n). How many times do I have to apologize?" he walked after you while you only sped up, turning your heal into the classroom.

"As many as it takes for me to believe you." you turned around, glaring at him and slamming the books on the desk. "You just stood there- no wait. "you scoffed with a laugh. "You sat there and let me be dragged away like an animal that misbehaved."

"You did, (y/n). You did misbehave! You should have just listened to him and do what we do. Submit." he tried to reason but that only angered you more.

"I am not submitting to him like a slave!" you now shouted and made sure that all eyes were focused on you. " Lucy was hell. I'll admit that." you now lowered your voice. "But I'd rather go through it again than let myself be thrown in the marriage like we're in the 17th century." you sat down behind your desk and turned your head away from him and leaving him to stand there with his books by his side.

He was still your brother though. And since the two of you were sitting together since the First year, you couldn't let him just not sit beside you.

"Just sit, Evan." you sighed and with a few doubts in his head, he did just that.

---

When the class was over you left first from the classroom, making your way around the corridors and down the stairs, ready to enter the library when suddenly someone grabbed you by the elbow and pulled you into a small, cramped room.

You were pressed against someone you couldn't quite see due to the darkness. You quickly reached for the light switch and when there was light, there was a prick.

"No." you reached for the doorknob and was about to leave the room.

"Rosier." he reached first and stepped in front of the door, backing you against the shelves filled with silver polishers and cloths.

You looked up at him, his eyes serious and his hands trembling a bit.

"Black?" you glanced down at his hand then later back up at the blue of his eyes. "What do you want?"

"Wha-what happened when we left?" he asked, his eyes watching your and his hands slowly leaving the doorknob.

"What do you mean?"

"You know exactly what I mean. You clearly weren't excited to hear the news and neither was I-"

"And here you are. Away from them. You're free, Black. You don't get to marry me. Why would you still care?"

"Because like you said. We were still best friends once upon a time."

"Yeah. Once upon a time, long long ago until you found another replacement for us." you were about to push him away, but he didn't budge and you were the one who got backed away against the shelves, making a few items fall on your scarred back.

You let out a wail of pain, falling on your knees and letting out light tears of burning to suffer. It hurt, it burned and it scorched everything inside of you. "(y/n)!" he kneeled down to you and took your head in his palms. "(y/n). What's wrong?"

The numbness was taking over but it still left pulses of pain moving up and down your back. "You really want to know?" you moved your head away from his palms and slowly stood up. "When you left, dad pulled me into his study and brought out Lucy." you glared down at him and he felt he had heard the name before.

"Lucy-"

"Sounds familiar, doesn't it?" you scoffed and stepped over him and out of the broom closet, wiping away the wetness from your soaked cheeks.

You started walking faster and faster because as much as you continued to brush away the old tears, fresh ones kept falling.

"(y/n)!" a shout came behind you and before you could see the blue in his eyes, he was pressing you against him. His hands were around your neck, careful not to wrap themselves around your back. One hand was pressed against the back of your head and the other continued to pull you closer. "I'm so sorry." he whispered in your ear. Your hands wrapped around him as well, squeezing him tightly as you cried in his chest.

And never have you thought that from all the people who would see you cry beside Evan, that Sirius would be one of them. But you felt safe and you felt that you can trust yourself with him this moment.
