“Park-Kim Wooyoung! Get back here before I throw Jjong’s apple away! You know he’s gonna give you hell if I do that!” Seonghwa yelled, throwing his clothes on the floor.

Wooyoung pouted at that statement but walked back slowly, afraid that Seonghwa was really going to throw the apple away.

Jongho really had some attachment issues with that apple.

It started one day when they were at a shop. He had seen the apple plushie and had seemingly fallen in love with it, screaming and throwing the biggest tantrum ever when they left the aisle with the apple.

Hongjoong had relented and bought him the plushie, which he carried with him everywhere he went.

Talking about plushies, San still hadn’t outgrown his shiber plushie and kept it with him everywhere he went. (Okay but the plushie is of a Shiba Inu, a Japanese dog and it is really fricking cute)

It had been 2 years since Jongho was born and also 2 years since Hongjoong had gone on a hiatus. Seonghwa found it really weird to have help from an adult at first but soon got used to it, even trusting Hongjoong with the kids after a while. (more like after 1.5 years)

5 months after Seonghwa had given birth to Jongho, Hongjoong sent him on a relaxing trip to Jeju Island, which Seonghwa only went after 10283482 arguments with Hongjoong.

He was worried that Hongjoong and the kids would burn down the house while he wasn’t there (mainly Hongjoong), and was worried.

There was that one line about how the mom is always right, right? Yeah, I guess Seonghwa’s motherly instincts were right with this.

A week later, Hongjoong was trying to make a nice dinner. Seonghwa was coming home that night and he wanted to treat him to something good. Yunho was taking care of his brothers upstairs.

Hongjoong was confident in his skills, since he always made Seonghwa soup after the bath of his sons.

So, despite Yeosang and San not trusting him at all, he chose to cook teokbokki for them, deeming it as the easiest but tastiest meal to cook. He also had to cook Jongho’s meal, which he did with ease.

While cooking, he had this ‘ingenious’ idea to grill meat to go with it and decided to take out the grill. He put the meat on it and grilled it, flipping the pieces of juicy pork as he went along. The teokbokki was already done, and it sat in the pot on the stove with the fire closed.

“Dad! DADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD” came a shout from upstairs.

Hongjoong looked at the steps before another scream came.

“WOOYOUNG AND JONGHO ARE FIGHTINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!” Mingi screamed, alarming Hongjoong.

He ran up the stairs and into Wooyoung’s shared room with the twins and found Jongho biting the older. In his arms were his apple plushie, torn in half.

Wooyoung had multiple scratches on his forehead and arms as well as bite marks around his upper arm. Jongho finally let go and started crying at the sight of Hongjoong. .

Around them stood the 4 siblings, Yunho trying to console Wooyoung, who was also sobbing, Yeosang hugging the tiny Jongho, and San and Mingi trying to find the stuffing for the apple.

Hongjoong understood everything at once and sighed. “That damn apple…” he muttered, and heard a tiny giggle from Yunho who had obviously heard him.

Kneeling down, he asked San, “Did Jongho get injured?”

San shook his head and pointed to Wooyoung. Hongjoong nodded and went over to him.

Picking him up, he instructed Yunho to follow him with Jongho. He brought Wooyoung into the bathroom with all the boys following him.

Setting the 2 youngest down, Hongjoong cleaned Wooyoung’s crying face while Yeosang cleaned Jongho’s, and made sure that nothing was bleeding before putting some ointment on Wooyoung’s scrapes and bite marks and then he sat down, ready for a long talk.

”Would someone care to explain?” Hongjoong’s vocie was soft, but tone severe. The kids had heard it once.

It was when San had caused Seonghwa to slip and fall while 6 months pregnant with Wooyoung. He had been playing with his water gun in the house and Seonghwa had fallen victim to slippery floors.

Safe to say that the children had recognised that tone, for the entire bathroom became silent.

“Dad…” a tiny voice came from Yeosang. “Wooyoung was playing with Jongho’s apple and accidentally ripped it when got it caught on the corner of his shelf. The apple ripped and Jongho was so upset. That’s why this happened.”

Hongjoong bit his lip in annoyance. “That fricking goddamn apple.” he muttered, which Yunho heard again, looking at him with raised eyebrows.

“Okay, Jongho, you’re not going to have the apple plushie until Appa comes back, okay? Unless you can sew it back yourself, but you can’t.” Hongjoong carried Jongho to his crib and pushed everyone else out.

“Sorry, Dad…” Wooyoung’s pouty lips came into view as he apologised. Hongjoong sighed. He didn’t want to punish him but he had to.

“Go to your room. You’re grounded until Appa comes home. You will not go out while your brothers play. Go to your room.”

Wooyoung nodded and trudged to his room, closing the door. Behind him, Mingi was hiding a smile and trying to control his laughter, resulting in a nudge by San. (okay but if my brother got into trouble, i laugh the loudest so…)

“Hey… does anyone smell something burning?” Yunho’s voice perked up. Hongjoong’s eyes widened at the realisation as he ran down the steps. He had left the grill on when he came in to diffuse ther situation.

As the backyard came into sight, he quickly realised that the grill was on fire. Panicking, he picked up the hose and was about to go turn on the water when water came out of it. He didn’t think much of it and just used it to put out the fire.

After a while, the fiery blaze slowly died out and all was left was the already black grill totally burnt and the smell of burnt meat.

Turning around, he saw Yeosang and San near the hose and he knew that they were the ones that had turned on the hose for them.

He was about to nag at them for being so close to the fire but they had just helped him put it out so he decided to take care of the mess first.

He used gloves and brought the grill to the nearby rubbish area and left it there, coming back to his children eating food quietly at the table. It turns out that Yeosang had called them down for dinner after seeing the teokbokki and Yunho had helped them serve it.

Hongjoong flashed a tired smile and sat down at his place, happily eating with them. “How is it?” he asked, looking at them.

“It’s good!” San replied, trying to cheer up his father.

“Not as good as Appa’s but… it’s decent, I guess.” Yunho’s teasing tone made everyone burst into fits of laughter.

Just as they were cleaning up, Seonghwa walked in with his luggage, face red with anger. The children stood up at the sight of their angry father and Hongjoong knew he was done for.

“May I ask why the neighbour had to ask me about our grill? Or more specifically, the burnt grill?”
