Your day was going bad as it was, but this. . . This took the cake. This took the whole shucking party with it. Damn woman decided to show her ugly mug to you guys a few seconds before Alby opened the door and you all escaped.
Just as Alby finished his very heroic line, a hologram type thing popped up on the wall opposite you. Of course, Newt was at your side right as it happened. But how was he going to protect you from a 3D picture of your mother? No idea, but he will try.
She stood, tall and proud, with that devilish smile of hers. She seemed nice enough, but once she shows her true colors, all you'll want to do is run. That's exactly what she did to everyone here, at least once before. Terrifying.
She straightened her suit coat and wiped her palms on her skirt. "Hello, children,"
"I'm leaving," You stated flatly.
"(Y/N), please. This is important,"
"Okay. Then don't start off by calling us 'children.'"
"She didn't call us 'subjects' though," Chuck said.
"Not any better," You plopped down on the ground next to Newt, who sat down, also, followed by the others.
She cleared her throats and started again. "Hello, children. As you have come to find out, we have upgraded the Maze. We have concluded that it was a failure, and are stopping the process before it goes too far-"
"Yeah, that's great and all, but why are we here?" Minho interrupted.
"Because WCKD holds a grudge against all of you. Or at least I do. You fooled my mother but I will not be fooled. I will find a complete cure, as my mother did not. She failed the mission and helped the subjects. That is something I will not forgive her for,"
"'Subjects'," Thomas whispered to Minho.
"Shucking creators," Minho answered.
"Stop whispering," Your mother scolded.
Can we do this then? You sent to the guys, just to spite.
"None of that either,"
"God damn. What can you guys not do?" Thomas asked, more frustrated then you've ever seen him.
"Control your actions, make you feel certain emotions. Things as such,"
"You forgot 'hold us accountable for what has happened,'" You said, you could almost feel her anger arising. "You can't blame us, can you?"
"I can blame you for most anything I want. Depends on the situation,"
"Like dad?"
"What have I told you about your father?"
"That I killed him. That he went insane because of me,"
She sighed, like she was done with this subject. "No. That's not what I meant,"
"Not to talk to talk to you about him?"
"Exactly,"
"So you were saying?" Alby ushered her on, like he was in a hurry.
"Of course," She straightened her suit coat and flattened her skirt, bringing back her 'I'm better then you' posture. "As you know, I am the head of WCKD, Ashly Savanna Paige, or (Y/N)'s mother. The second Maze trials were bound to fail, like my subordinates said. I didn't believe them. Now that it has failed, and it is your fault, you must be punished. This was supposed to be a punishment, anyhow. So we are just back to square one. You damned kids helping the resistance. I expected most of you, since some have a history of escaping," She gave an appointed look to Minho and Gally, who just scowled back at her. Then her dark eyes scanned the group again before continuing. "But some I didn't expect to see before me today,"
"Well we're here and still wondering why you are. Well, kinda," Winston explained everyone's feelings in one sentence.
"Good that," Newt said.
"I'm here to warn you," Ashly explained.
You all waited.
Then you waited a little more.
"Warn us of what?" Alby asked.
"Where you are at the moment, is no where near the WCKD complex where I am. The one where you are is abandoned and Crank infested. It's dangerous to even be in the Maze. The perfect punishment for traitors,"
"They're all the same," You whispered to Newt, referring to Gabi and your mom. He nodded.
"Now that you have regained your memories, do to. . . unfortunate events-" Her eyes flicked to River, who was sitting in Minho's lap. Minho put an arm around her protectively and pulled her closer. Ashly glared him in the eye, Minho glared back. River was too occupied with her little doll to notice. "-but it has been restored. We can and will take your memories back, against your will is of even more enjoyment. So please, throw a tantrum. We'll be watching,"
"You're not leaving," You laughed, baffled by the way she thought she could just leave.
Ashly's image flickered once and blurred, then came back into focus. As if she was losing connection. Her face shown surprise when the image cleared, as if she had no idea why she was being stopped. "Is something the matter?"
"Well, duh!" You said, irritated beyond belief. "You're just going to leave us here? To die? To rot?" You were standing now, stepping over legs and feet to get closer to this monster.
The black haired woman in the hologram look generally confused. "Yes. Why?"
"You can't just leave us here!" Your voice was rising. You didn't seem to notice. "This is torture! We're going to die, and you don't seem to care!"
"We're going to die?" River asked Minho behind you.
"(Y/N)-" Minho tried to stop you.
"This is inhuman! This is exactly the reason why I resented grandmother. She was a terrible, terrible person. And you're turning into her!"
"Do not raise your voice at me, youn-" Your mother's scolding was stopped.
"No! Get us out of here. You can't keep us here!"
"(Y/N), please sit down," Newt tried to reason with you.
"Just give us some answers, for fucks sake!"
"Do not use that language around me, you despicable little girl," There she was. The woman you've come to know. The one thing scarier than the monsters under your bed.
"At least take River and Chuck back!" You shouted. "They didn't do anything wrong!"
"Oh," Ashly stated with that damned evil smile of hers. "But they did. They helped you out just as much as you helped the Right Arm,"
You couldn't believe what you were hearing. This is inhuman. Keeping people like cattle, huddling them into a torturous experiment they didn't deserve to bare the burden of. You helped the Right Arm because you thought it was the right thing to do. Nothing more to it. It was your decision, no one else's. They just all happened to have the same idea of what was going on. They knew what was happening was wrong, and they did something about it.
"But I'm your daughter," Your voice was shaking. It took a lot to say those words. The words you dreaded saying, but knew you always would have to.
The evil smile, that same smile you remember seeing the day you were being prepped to be the first in the Glade. Her snake like eyes, always holding something sinister in them, that cold, dark hue to them. Both of which burnt into your memory.
You will never forget what she said next. Never. You will remember it on your dying day. No. . . You will remember it on the day you break free from the pain and the suffering. The day you leave the Maze, the Flare, the torture of a home not being a home behind, and you are finally free of everything. Free of everything except your memories.
Her smile, her eyes, both so evil, bribing you for something else.
Before her image flickering, and then disappearing, she said five words that would scar you forever. Never leaving, always there, relentlessly stabbing you in the back, even after death.
"I don't have a daughter,"
