"SHUCK!" You heard Minho scream as Newt pulled you up.
Once you were up you were sprinting, Newt right on your heels. Shrieks came from everywhere. Behind you, at your sides, in front of you. Gally, who still looked like he was in a daze from what you had told him, was a few feet in front of you. Thomas was up front with Minho, Winston, and Alby. Chuck was. . . Chuck? WHERE THE SHUCK WAS CHUCK?
"Where's Chuck?" You screamed over the inhuman shrieks.
A sudden look of horror washed over Newt's face. They all seemed to hear you. Thomas stopped dead in his tracks.
"CHUCK!" Thomas called. "CHUCK!"
"THOMAS! HELP!" Came a voice. It was small and seemed to be far away. It was coming from behind you.
You stopped and spun around. You were a few yards in front of the Cranks. Chuck was only a few feet in front of them. But something told you they weren't after him.
"Chuck! Stop running!" You yelled at him.
"WHY?" Chuck called back.
"Just stop!"
"Are you shucking out of your MIND?" Minho yelled at you.
"Just slim it and watch." You told him.
Chuck stopped running and was covering his head with his hands. The Cranks just ran around him, not even bothering to get anywhere near him.
"What the hell. . ." Gally said from behind you.
The Cranks kept getting closer. You noticed they weren't after any of the guys.
They were after you.
You let the Cranks come a little closer as the thought sank in.
"So does that mean they aren't after us either?" Thomas asked.
"Not you." You mumbled and Newt gave you a strange look.
You looked at him. "Bye!" You said as you ran around him.
The shrieking had gotten a lot louder and annoying. You didn't even bother to turn around and look. You knew they were behind you.

Newt's POV
"Bye!" (Y/N) said and ran around me.
The Cranks changed their direction to follow her.
"(Y/N)!" I called after her. She didn't seem to hear me. I tried again but the Cranks were too loud.
I was going to go after her when I felt a hand on my arm. I turned to see Gally.
"Too dangerous. Wait. We'll find her. She can handle herself." Gally said staring in the direction (Y/N) went.
"Good. She can handle herself. But not with that many Cranks. We're going to help." Minho said, pulling some knives out of his backpack.
"But Minho-"
"Slim it, Gally. You don't know what those things can do. You've never faced them. We're going after her." I said taking a knife from Minho.
"It's suicide." Gally said trying to convince us to stay.
"You know nothing of suicide."
I started running in the direction (Y/N) took. I couldn't lose her. No. I couldn't. There was something about her. I like her. A lot. Not even going to lie. Is it not obvious? I just feel like I need to protect her. I have defiantly met her before the Maze. How could I forget a face like that? I had that 'I know her.' realization thing. There was something there. I knew I liked her. Pretty obvious to me. From the first time I saw her, poking at me and trying to wake me up, I thought she was beautiful. It's cheesy, I know. But its true.
A scream rang out in the air, interrupting my thoughts.
"Shuck. Shuck, shuck, shuck, shuck, shuck." I said under my breath. I pushed myself to run faster and it actually happened. I thought my limp would have slowed me down. Wait. My limp. It's not there. Finally! Getting farther away from my past. My past. When (Y/N) started telling Gally about his past life before the Maze, my memories started to come back. They were cloudy so I didn't have them completely. Couldn't really make things out yet.
Another cry rang out. Oh no. What the bloody hell are they doing to her? The cries sounded closer.
Soon enough there she was. In a circle of Cranks, bow and arrow in hand. Where did she get that? Doesn't matter. There were a couple of dead Cranks scattered all over the place. An arrow sticking out of either their throat or chest. One had an arrow in its eye. But it was still alive. I just ran for her.
(Y/N) POV
You saw the guys coming from about a mile or so away. But my eyes were still on the ring leader. A man, thick with muscles, one eye, half of his teeth gone, and an alligator claw on his necklace. Every time anyone made a move you would pull back on the string of your bow a little harder and they would stop instantly. You had no idea what made this guy the most important, but it seemed to work.
"You got a name, pretty girl?" He asked in a dry, cracked voice.
"What's it to ya?" You asked.
"Oh, pretty much everything. A name says a lot about someone. What they like to be called by is part of their personality. It's hard to explain. But. . . What's yours to you?"
"Question is: What is mine to you?"
He grunted in frustration. "Stubborn. That's one thing. Stubbornness is hard to deal with. A name," He laughed, "A name can do a lot. Joe. That's this guy over here." He pointed to a skinny guy with hair that touched his shoulders. "See? Was a homeless man. There are a lot of homeless people named Joe. See what I mean."
"Okay. Cool your minion is named Joe. So what?"
"He's not a minion. He's a friend. Elizabeth, on the opposite side of the scale" He motioned towards a lady in a velvet dress. She had one diamond earing and a neckless to match. " was a rich woman. Remember learning about Queen Elizabeth? Was the one of the best rulers of England. Ruled for nearly forty-five years. Everybody loved her. Everybody wanted to marry her. But she never married."
"Then what's your name? Bob? Marlin? Oh, wait. Better guess. Elmo?"
"Bruce. Was a body builder."
"Can see that."
"Great you can see better then me."
"Well I still have two eyes."
"You little son of a b-" A knife whizzed by your head and hit Joe directly in the gut.
"Need help?" Minho called.
"Well. If you say so!" You called back.
You picked up your quiver of arrows and let one fly. It hit Elizabeth in the stomach.
"That's what you get for looking down upon the poor, you slinthead!" You yelled at her.
You pulled another out and it hit another Crank in the eye. He crumbled to the floor and stilled.
"YOU LITTLE SHANK!" Bruce yelled from behind you. "THAT WAS MY FRIEND!"
"I thought Joe was your friend!" You yelled over the chaos turning around to face him.
"THAT WAS MY BEST FRIEND!"
"Good! You could join him!" You raised an arrow and shot him in the hand. Bruce cried out in pain and you shot another one in his foot making him fall into a heap. You shot a few more arrows. They hit Cranks running at you. Once you got over to Bruce you raised an arrow to his head. "Name's (Y/N), slinthead." Then you shot and Bruce stilled. The rest of the Cranks stopped and fell to the ground, lifeless, as well.
"That wasn't much of a fight." Minho whined.
"Why did they all just fall like that?" Thomas asked.
"New update in the system for Cranks used in any Maze. Find the leader of the pack. They have the life source. Kill them. All the Cranks in that group go bye-bye." You said. "Well. I'm tired."
"We can't sleep in the hammocks. Too out in the open." Newt said. He was right behind you. He has been really protective over you. You knew him before the Maze. He was best friends with you and you kind of had a crush on him since you met him. But you never told him. You were afraid it would ruin your friendship.
"Homestead." Alby said. "We're staying in the Homestead until we find a way out."
"That could take years." Frypan complained.
"Well this didn't happen for the first two years so it could take us less time to find a way out." Thomas said.
There was a click, click, whirl coming from the closest door to the Maze.
"Homestead. Now." Minho said.
You all ran to the homestead. Chuck was already there waiting for you. You got in just in time to hear Grievers coming from all the doors.
"Just in time." Chuck said.
"What happened to the dead Griever?" You asked.
"It's gone. I looked around for it. Couldn't find it."
"Shuck." Minho said.
The shriek of Grievers came from outside the door. It made you all fall quiet. You moved closer to Newt. He wrapped an arm around you protectively. He did the same thing when you were younger during thunder storms. You used to get scared but you don't really anymore. He was two years older then you and always made sure you were safe. He was really protective over you when something scared him. You didn't know why. Maybe an instinct or something. It felt good, to be honest. To be close to him after all this time. It completely terrified you when you got the news that Thomas shot him. You stayed in that white room for weeks until your. . . guardian. . . made you come out. That's when you met Ryan. He helped you through months of grief. Then you developed a crush on him, and you thought that same for him. Until that one party where he kissed Melissa. Then you locked yourself in that room again. Then they sent you here again. That's where you met Newt again. Your best friend. And now you can completely admit it to yourself.
You loved Newt.
