"Where's Kara?" Lena asked Alex as she and J'onn entered her office at L-Corp the next day.
"Mother-daughter day with Esme. She said she'll give her two cents on whatever plan we come up with tonight at game night, which she also told me to mention that you are invited to." J'onn said and Lena smiled.
"I look forward to it. Anyone else going to be there?" Lena asked.
"Kelly and Nia, which is normal, since Nia is basically Kara's best friend at work, so she's like another Aunt to Esme." Alex said.
"Didn't you say that Esme calls Cat Aunt Kitty?" J'onn asked and Lena could barely stop herself from bursting out laughing at hearing that and Alex did not look much better.
"Yeah. Honestly, I think Kara was just relieved Esme didn't call her Grandma Kitty." Alex said.
"We'd all be dead if that happened, which is why those words will not leave this room." Lena said and J'onn and Alex both nodded.
"Anyways, I feel like we've gotten off track here." J'onn said.
"That's because we did, though I am glad that Nia will be at game night, so that she can contribute to this too." Lena said.
"So, we're here to negotiate a fake contract between L-Corp and the DEO that will actually give us an excuse for the budget the superfriends are going to have." Alex said and Lena nodded.
"I was thinking that it could be some kind of defensive mechanism to help DEO agents better protect themselves against alien threats." Lena said.
"No, if we do that, then people will expect to see something. This needs to be something that sounds believable, but doesn't actually exist." J'onn said.
"How about a new weapons manufacturer. After all, considering the fact that our current one thought that it was a good idea to actually create civilian versions of government grade weaponry." Alex said and Lena immediately nodded.
"L-Corp still does have a weapons division. While in the old reality, I shut it down to get people to hopefully stop seeing this company compared to Lex, but maybe instead, I should repurpose it to the DEO. Let you guys control it and then use the proceeds from it to fund the Superfriends." Lena said.
"Not a bad idea. I'm sure that your board won't protest you basically giving the weapons division away to the government if it makes them look good." J'onn said and Lena nodded.
"Not to mention it could expand beyond weapons and into a completely new defense line. After all, the money will be put towards protecting the world, just not in the way they think and honestly, I won't actually need to tell them if we include a clause in the contract that states that by signing it, I'm agreeing not to tell anyone about this, since it's a heavily classified project, since the DEO is one of those organizations that doesn't actually exist." Lena said and J'onn and Alex nodded.
"I think there's only one order of business left to attend to and that is a base of operations, since we cannot let the Superfriends operate out of the DEO. We do and we run the risk of another Colonel Haley situation and while she herself is not a bad person, she just had a bad boss, I don't want to have to risk getting my memories erased again." Alex said.
"I actually had an idea about that. Remember the old Luthor Corp Naval Solutions facility that my mother used as one of Cadmus's many bases?" Lena asked.
"Yeah it's the last place I saw my father before he disappeared." Alex said bitterly.
"We will find him Alex. For real this time." J'onn promised and Lena nodded in agreement.
"I hope so." Alex said.
"But anyways, I figure if that place is big enough to hold a Hosian frigate among other things, it should be more than big enough for the Superfriends' needs." Lena said.
"I like it." J'onn said.
"So do I, though there is one thing that is a must and I know Kara will agree to it." Alex said.
"Already working on plans for a little rec room for Esme, since I know that she'll likely end up spending time at the base." Lena assured her.
"Good." Alex said as they continued talking.
At the same time as the meeting was taking place, Kara and Esme were walking around the zoo, Kara smiling at the look she saw on her daughter's face, especially when they arrived at the zebra exhibit, since those were Esme's favorite animals. Honestly, Kara was pretty sure if Esme could get away with it, she'd try to ride one, which was why she kept a hand on her daughter at all times.
"Are you having fun sweetie?" Kara asked and Esme nodded eagerly as she watched the zebras run around.
"Mommy, can I get a zebra for Christmas?" Esme asked and Kara chuckled, since Esme always asked that question when they came to the zoo.
"Sorry sweetie, but our apartment doesn't allow for pets and a zebra is too big for a pet anyways." Kara said gently and Esme looked disappointed.
"Come on, why don't we go see the elephants." Kara said and Esme immediately perked up at that, since she loved the elephants almost as much as she loved the zebras.
"Yeah." Esme shouted with joy as Kara smiled at her daughter as they headed towards the elephant exhibit.
"Do we really have to go?" Esme asked as her mother carried her out of the zoo, since she was tired.
"Sorry sweetheart, but we need to get home for game night." Kara said, thinking especially since they'd have two extra people there tonight.
"With Aunt Alex, Aunt Kelly and Aunt Nia?" Esme asked.
"Yes, but only if you take your nap without any problems, since you can't have fun with the grownups if you're tired and crabby." Kara said and Esme nodded as she laid her head down on her mother's shoulder and Kara smiled as she could feel Esme begin to fall asleep as she headed towards the car, since even though she could fly, she wanted to give Esme some semblance of a normal life.
