The year is 2575 and humanity has gone extinct. It's been like this for five centuries. Nobody knows how they went extinct. Some speculate it was due to a nuclear war. Others say it's due to a race wiping natural disaster and some say God had enough of their bullshit after going through Twitter for the first time and Thanos snapped them.
