What Are The Minimum Subjects For IGCSE A Level?

What Are The Minimum Subjects For IGCSE A Level?

2 0 1

A major plus point for many students opting for IGCSE is the wide variety of subjects that are available to them. There are over 70 subjects to choose from. The core subjects are English, Mathematics and Science. Beyond that, you are free to choose any subjects that you want. The minimum number of subjects is 7, but if you want to take on more, that is up to you. Why do more than the required minimum? The answer is that the scores in the best 7 subjects are taken into account. That means that there are two ways of deciding on the subjects to be taken. The first is to choose the 7 subjects in which you are the strongest and where you have the most confidence in doing well. The other option is to take more than the minimum 7 subjects (for example 8 or 9) so that if you do not do well in one or two, the good scores from the remaining subjects will still give you a good grade. The decision to take on more than the minimum of 7 subjects should be carefully considered. It is not just a matter of "spreading the risk". The more subjects you have to study, the less time you will be able to devote to each. Just because a friend is choosing to do more subjects or is sticking to the minimum 7 is not a reason for you to do the same. Expert advice on how many subjects to take, from teachers who will evaluate your specific abilities, and then give you the tuition needed to do well in your IGCSE is the best and safest way to make such an important decision.
