At College Francoise DuPont, after lunch time, it was now passing time for fourth period. People were either walking to their next class or getting their stuff for their next class. Zoe walked to her locker, put in her combination, and opened it.
Zoe: Hmm... English, drama, algebra, literature. I have gym class next. *She grabbed her gym bag, closed her locker door, and without paying attention again, she bumped into someone. * 'Seriously, again. I hope it's not Mariah or any of her cronies this time.' Sorry.
???: No, I'm sorry. *Zoe's eyes widened when she heard a familiar voice. She looked straight ahead and saw it was Owen. *
Zoe: Oh, Owen. S-sorry about that.
Owen: That's okay. *He picked up her bag. * You dropped this.
Zoe: (taking the bag, hesitantly) Thank you. I can't lose these. Hehe.
Owen: What class you got next?
Zoe: (looking down) I got gym next. You?
Owen: Algebra. With Mr. Cooper.
Zoe: Oh, tha-that's cool.
Owen: So, I was wondering... maybe after school, do you wanna hang out?
Zoe: 'Oh no, the big question. What should I say? Ugh, come on. This wasn't the first time you hang out with him. You were fine and now this, after school. Just us. Together. Ahhhh, a dream come true. How do I tell him?'
Owen: Zoe? Are you okay?
Zoe: (blushed) Huh? *She shook her head. * S-sorry, what did you say?
Owen: I asked if you wanna hang out after school.
Zoe: (looking away) Oh, uh... *She side-eyed Brittany opening her locker, getting her next set of textbooks for her next class. * I-I-I can't.
Owen: Oh, okay.
Zoe: Uh... what I meant is... I'm busy with the Cooperation and Collaboration assignment for Ms. Miller. You know.
Owen: Oh, yeah. I remember that. Is tomorrow okay?
Zoe: Oh, uh... I-I'm not sure. Can Wednesday be okay?
Owen: I won't be here Wednesday.
Zoe: Why?
Owen: I have a doctor's appointment.
Zoe: Oh.
Owen: How's Thursday?
Zoe: 'Is Thursday good? I have nothing planned for Thursday, so hopefully nothing will happen.' O-okay. Thursday should be okay.
Owen: Okay, great. *He checked the time on his phone. * Better get going. Bye.
Zoe: B-bye. *Owen walked away, Zoe sighed, and looked flushed. * What just happened? Did I just agree to his offer?
Amore: You did, Zoe. But as friends, like you said.
Zoe: I did say that. But why am I still blushing? *She felt her left cheek. *
Amore: It means that you like him, Zoe. Like you really do.
Zoe: (walking to the locker room) I-I don't know, Amore. I know you're the pixie of love and I'm the superhero of devotion, how do you make things not so difficult?
Amore: Love can be complicated for many reasons, including the complex emotions it involves, the effort required to maintain a relationship, and the uncertainty of relationships like emotion, passion, romance, and internal factors. And from the looks of it, you're in the romance section.
Zoe: Good to know I guess. *Brittany closed her locker and smirked at Zoe. *
Brittany: Looks like someone got a crush on a certain boy. This is something Mariah and the others would love to hear. *She pulled her phone out and group chat the others. *
🧡(Brittany): Major news. Zoe Lee, the girl in my drama class has a crush on a boy named Owen, I think.
🩷 (Mariah): You don't say.
🩵(Samantha): Seriously?
🩷 (Janelle): Why do we even care?
🩷(Mariah): We'll use this to our advantage and make her feel like what it feels to have her heart broken.
💚(Kelly): But isn't it kinda mean to play with people's emotion?
💜(Alyssa): I"m with Kelly on this one.
🩷(Mariah): No, no. This will be perfect. Besides, Brittany don't you like Owen?
🧡(Brittany): I do. But I doubt he likes me like that.
🩷(Mariah): We'll change that. I have a plan. Meet me in the empty art room after school so we can discuss it. *They sent thumbs up emojis, Brittany put her phone back in her pocket, and smirked too. *
Brittany: Sending that nerd to detention for a week was easy, wonder what we can do with miss Zoe Lee. *She closed her locker door and walked to her next class. *
Teresa: (putting on lip balm) Did you guys hear?
Bridgette: Hear what? *She gets out her English II textbook and binder. *
Teresa: There's some sport team tryouts.
Lauren: That sounds cool.
Lindsay: (holding her phone) What sports team are they holding tryouts for?
Teresa: Just girls and boys volleyball.
Lauren: I have an idea. Why don't we all try out for volleyball.
Bridgette: (closing her locker) Wait, like all of us together?
Lauren: Yeah. Just think about it. Us four, in the same school sport team.
Lindsay: That sounds like a great idea.
Teresa: My mom did say I should go out more, so trying out should be fun.
Lindsay: I do need the sports credit if I want to get into a good college after high school.
Lauren: What do you think, Bridgette?
Bridgette: I'll think about it. When does tryouts start?
Lauren: Tomorrow after school.
Bridgette: Okay, I'll think about it and get back to you guys. *They all nodded and headed off to their next class. In the bakery, things were running smoothly with business. A male citizen walked inside the bakery. *
Sabine: Hello.
Mulan: Welcome.
Sabine: How can we help you?
Male citizen: I heard this is the best bakery in Paris.
Mulan: Indeed it is, sir. What would you like to order?
Male citizen: I'll like to have some croissants.
Sabine: Okay. How many would you like?
Male citizen: I'll have 2, please?
Sabine: (putting in the total) Okay, that'll be 2-euros. Would you like to pay with cash or card?
Male citizen: I'll pay with card. If that's okay.
Mulan: Of course. *He reached into his wallet, pulled out his debit card, he scanned it, the transaction went through, and he put the car back in wallet. * Your croissants will be ready in a few. *The male citizen nod his head yes as Mulan and Mushu put together the order. * Mushu, open a bag while I'll get the croissants.
Mushu: Okay. *He opened a brown bag, Mulan get a pair of tongs for the croissants, she picked one up and put it in the bag, then another one in the bag, and she put the tongs down. *
Mulan: Okay. *She takes the bag from Mushu, she closed up the bag, and she handed the bag to Sabine. * Here you go.
Sabine: Thank you. Here you go, sir.
Male citizen: (holding the bag) Thank you. *He opened the bag, takes one croissant, and takes a bite. * This is delicious.
Sabine: Glad you enjoyed it, sir. Come back again soon.
Male citizen: I'll keep that in mind. *He leaves the bakery, but then another customer walked inside the shop. *
Mulan: Hello.
Sabine: Hello, ma'am. Welcome to the Boulangerie Patisserie, how can we help you?
Female customer: I would like a rhubarb pie, please? I'm on a lunch break.
Sabine: Of course. Would that be a whole pie or a slice pie?
Female customer: A slice pie is fine.
Sabine: (putting in the total) One of rhubarb pie, that'll be 1-euro. Would you like to pay with cash or card?
Female customer: (holding out a euro bill) I'll pay with cash.
Sabine: Okay. *She takes the money from the customer, put the money in the register, and closed it up. *
Melanie: I'll see if we have any rhubarb pie. *She goes to the pie display and see, there wasn't any. * Sorry, ma'am. But we're fresh out of rhubarb pie.
Female customer: Okay. How about an apple pie? *Melanie looked at the display case and there is one more slice of apple pie. *
Melanie: You're in luck, we got one more slice of pie for you.
Female customer: Perfect, thank you. *Melanie gets a knife, opened the display case, Mushu assembled a small box for the pie, Melanie picked up the pie slice, and carefully put in the box. *
Melanie: Thank you, Mushu.
Mushu: My pleasure. *Melanie closed the pie box, closed the case, and put the pie box on the counter. *
Sabine: Here you go, ma'am.
Female citizen: Thank you. *She takes the pie box and leaves the bakery. *
Melanie: (wiping down the counter) Not much's been going on?
Sabine: Not really, but this is just after our lunch shift. The close to closing shift can be a little busy.
Melanie: Noted. *She threw the paper towel in the trash. Soon, they heard the door open and see some customers walking inside. *
Sabine: See what I mean.
Mulan: (holding a notepad and pen) Hello, welcome to Tom and Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie, how can we help you?
At Saint-Jacques Public Elementary School, it was science time.
Ms. Myers: Today class, in science we will be learning about rocks and minerals. *Some kids oohed at that topic. * I see you're all fascinated over that topic, well you're in luck because we're gonna learn about it.
Chris: (whispers to Timmy) This should be fun.
Timmy: (whispers to Chris) Let's hope so.
Ms. Myers: Now, there is a big difference between rocks and minerals.
Ella: (raised her hand) What are the difference?
Ms. Myers: Well Ella, a mineral is a naturally occurring substance with distinctive chemical and physical properties, composition and atomic structure. Rocks are generally made up of two or more minerals, mixed up through geological processes.
Ella: Oh.
Ms. Myers: I'll show you all what a mineral and a rock is. *She goes to her desk, pulls out a small bag, pulls out a small mineral crystal, and shows it to everyone. * This is a mineral. See how crystal clear and shiny it is.
Chelsea: Oooh, pretty. Do you think mommy has special jewelry made of minerals?
Chandler: I would say she does. We'll ask when we get home. *Chelsea nodded her head yes to that. *
Ms. Myers: There are so many kinds of minerals out there. Some we never heard of or even seen before.
Erika: (raised her hand) Ms. Myers.
Ms. Myers: Yes, Erika?
Erika: How do people discover minerals?
Ms. Myers: That's a good question, Erika. The mineral extraction process begins with finding the location of mineral deposits. Remote sensors that use satellite images and geochemical surveys are just two ways that minerals can be located. Many minerals are then removed through mining or quarrying.
Erika: Oh.
Ms. Myers: Now let me show you what a rock looks like. *She pulled out a rock out of the small bag and showed it to the class. * You've seen rocks before.
Howie: (raised his hand) I collect rocks.
Ms. Myers: That's nice. Howie. Maybe next time you can show us your rocks.
Howie: Okay.
Timmy: (raised his hand) Does seeing rocks at a construction site count?
Ms. Myers: Yes, those counts. Even rocks and small pebbles you see at the park. Rocks are everywhere and minerals are everywhere too. We will learn the three main words on minerals and rocks. those words are... *She walked to the board, got an expo marker, opened the cap, and wrote down the three names. * Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous rocks. Sedimentary rocks are formed from pre-existing rocks or pieces of once-living organisms. Like this one. *She pulled out a Sedimentary rock and showed it to everyone. * This is a Sedimentary rock.
Leah: (raised her hand) Ms. Myers?
Ms. Myers: Yes, Leah?
Leah: How can you tell that's a Sedimentary rock?
Ms. Myers: Well, Sedimentary rock is often found in layers. One way to tell if a rock sample is sedimentary is to see if it is made from grains. Some samples of sedimentary rocks include limestone, sandstone, coal and shale. *A few students oohed at that. * Now, we move onto Metamorphic. *She puts the Sedimentary rock back in the small bag and pulls out a Metamorphic rock. * This is what a Metamorphic rock looks like. Notice the feature of this rock. *She showed them the rock up close. *
Timmy: Wow.
Ms. Myers: Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been transformed from other types of rocks through a process called metamorphism.
Chelsea: (raised her hand) So it's like changing?
Ms. Myers: That's right, Chelsea. Metaphoric is like changing, so the rock changes from other types of rocks through that process. You all are probably wondering how. I'll show you all. *She pulls down the projector screen, hooked up the projector cable to the computer, she goes to YouTube, put in the video of the Metamorphic Rock change. * Pay attention to this video on how the Metamorphic rock really work. Can someone get the lights? *Timmy got up, flipped the light switch until the lights were off, and he sat back down in his seat. * Thank you, Timmy. *She clicked on the video and they all watched the video on Metamorphic Rock. After they watched the video, Ms. Myers gets to the final rock type as she puts the Metamorphic rock back in the small bag. * So, you all know what the Metamorphic rock does, time to show you all what an Igneous rock looks like.
Leah: What do you think what kind of rock looks like?
Peyton: I hope it's a smooth rock. *Ms. Myers goes into the bag and pulls out an Igneous rock. * This is what an Igneous rock looks like. An Igneous Rock form when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies. The melt originates deep within the Earth near active plate boundaries or hot spots, then rises toward the surface.
Chris: (raised his hand) It's like a Volcano rock?
Ms. Myers: Yes, igneous rocks can form at volcanoes, but not all igneous rocks are volcanic.
Chris: Oh.
Ms. Myers: The Igneous Rock composed of crystals or is glassy. It is formed from magma—molten or partially molten rock in the interior of Earth where temperatures are very hot. *She moved the rock around and saw the crystals all over the rock. * So, you all know the three types of rocks that are out there today, I have something for you guys. *She puts the Igneous rock back in the bag, puts the bag on her desk, and she gets a stack of papers on her desk too. * I have a little assignment planned for you all on the three types of rocks we learned about. I would like a volunteer to pass the paper out to everyone.
Etta: (raised her hand) I'll do it, Ms. Myers.
Ms. Myers: (handing the stacks of papers to Etta) Thank you, Etta. *She starts passing them out to everyone in the classroom. At College Francoise DuPont, in Mrs. Howards' classroom, a few kids walked inside the classroom and took their seats. *
Alya: Have you ever wondered what goes on with everyone or just you?
Marinette: Well, it depends on what's going on. Why'd you asked?
Alya: Just with Sabrina that's all.
Marinette: Oh yeah. With her being distant and quiet. But like you said, she'll tell us what's up when
