"Hey, good morning" he smiled stroking her hair.
"Morning" she said, wita small smile on her lips.
"I brought you breakfast, I made your favourite pasta" he said reaching the brown paper bag from the couch near Meredith's bed.
"Was that the pasta I was supposed to eat last night?" she chuckled slightly, slowly sitting up as Andrew sat up the table in front of her.
"It was, but it's newly cool and it's still warm" He said making her chuckle, as he put the Tupperware in front of her.
"Hmm, smells good" she smiled looking at him.
"I know" he smiled proudly watching her eat.
He smiled to himself seeing her like this, not feeling any pain or so, no dizziness, they're also glad she only has seizure once, when they brought her to CT and that's it.
They haven't talked about the surgery, wether to take it or not. Amongst all cancers, the diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme portends one of the most malevolent clinical prognoses. Median survival is only nine months, rising to 15–16 months for those receiving standard. Even if she chose to do the surgery she's still living with cancer, she isn't completely cured, not ever it could grow back, what's worst is she could die on the table and end up brain dead because of her brain swelling. Also she still will die even after the surgery, she could live 15-16 months, not enough to have family and marry Andrew. Slim chance, they're holding on to a thread at this point, there's nothing more they could possibly do, it's either 15-16 months or watching Meredith suffer from headache and dizziness.
"Uh, have you thought about the surgery?" he asked, he's sitting on the couch with his laptop on his lap, Meredith laying on her back staring at the ceiling. "I mean they considering the surgery and you can have chemo and radiation"
"There's nothing to think about I will die, either way" she breath out, making Andrew look up at her.
"Meredith don't say that" he begun putting the laptop down on the couch as he pull the stool and sat closer to Meredith, taking her hand into his.
"What it's true, I'm dying" she repeated wiping her tears.
"We can do this, you could get chemo and radiation treatment" he said trying to cheer her a little
"16 months Andrew, 16 months full of chemo and radiation, and If I get lucky I might live for 2 years before I collapse and die" she mumbled her last sentence looking at him.
It was silent for a moment you can only hear the people from outside talking.
"I want you to find someone who will make you happy" she begun, caressing his cheek wiping off his tears.
"Meredith don't say that!" he said in disbelief "Pleas"
"It's better when you're prepared, Andrew. You have to accept it" she added.
"Accept what, that you're dying?" he half yelled standing up.
"Yes, Andrew" she gave back.
"Meredith, I-i can't lose that, do you hear me, I. can not, lose you" he said pulling her into his chest.
"I knoe" she sniff
"I want you to live, I want to have your kids, and I will marry you" he said cupping her face, staring at her eyes
"I love you" she said, her tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I love you too" he smiled, kissing her deeply and resting his forehead against his.
~~
"Uh, you page me?" Koracick said entering Meredith's room.
"Uh yeah, you studied my scans right?" she asked nervously
"Uh yes" he answered
"And the biopsy?" Andrew asked nervously she was standing beside Meredith's bed.
"It's not cancerous but it's malignant" Tom answered.
"So it's not cancer?" Andrew breath out.
" Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common type of malignant cancerous brain tumor in adults. Cancer cells in GBM tumors rapidly multiply. The cancer can spread into other areas of the brain as well. Rarely, the cancer spreads outside the brain to other parts of the body" Tom explained
"Yeah Tom I know that, you don't have to explain it to me but thanks" Meredith said.
"So are you considering the surgery?" Tom asked
Meredith looked at Andrew before answering.
"Uh yeah" she answered hesitantly.
"So you know the standard of treatment for a GBM is surgery, followed by daily radiation and oral chemotherapy for six and a half weeks, then a six-month regimen of oral chemotherapy given five days a month." Tom said
"Yes I know that" Meredith answered
"So when's the surgery?" Andrew asked nervously
He's not ready to lose her yet, and he don't think he will ever be. 16 months, that's all the time they have, they should make it worth it, it should be memorable. But at the same time she still have to do chemo and radiation treatment, she'll still suffer after the surgery when she's supposed to be feeling better and recovering.
"Tomorrow, before the tumor could ruptured" Tom answered. "And I'll be back, Shepherd needs me" he added looking at his pager
"Thank you" Meredith smiled.
"You should get some rest for tomorrow" Andrew said helping Meredith to lay down.
"I love you" she said looking at his eyes
"I love you more" he smiled leaning down to gave her a kiss, before tucking her under the sheets.
He took a blanket from the cabinet before making himself comfortable in the couch. He's staring at the ceiling nervous about the surgery tomorrow, scared to fall asleep because Meredith could seize at any moment or need to vomit because of dizziness. He close his eyes slowly falling asleep but not too deep, just asleep.
To be continued...
