Chapter Twenty-Five – Escape
Three hours. Three hours with an Omega; a conflicted wolf; and a half-human whose nerves were spreading through the car like wildfire making the others itchy. I knew Raziela couldn't help it, but it was starting to drive me insane. I nearly leapt out the car when Azriel finally pulled to a stop.
"We go on foot from here," she said.
Looking around showed that was exactly what everbody else had done. Leaving their cars here made it look like a junk yard. I only hoped that the local authorities stayed away from this dead end road, no doubt they'd think a massive party was being conducted on their beach, when in fact, it would be a war of beings they never knew existed. I couldn't imagine what they would think if they found out this way.
Looking back, I told Raziela to shift, she'd be harder to hurt in her wolf form. Of course, it would be harder to hurt her in half-wolf form, but where she had immunity to silver, she didn't have a half-form, which made me wonder, how on earth had she marked her mate? Or had she? Had he only marked and mated her?
Raziela licked my hand to tell me she was shifted and ready. I nodded to Azriel as she held her mate to her side. We jogged through the trees. And it wasn't long until we heard it. Howls, cries, pain, victory, destruction: war. Standing in the parting of the trees that was raised over the beach, I stared at the wolves; half-wolves; human forms fighting. Flashes of magic alerted me to where my mother and her people fought.
Raziela whinned, leaning against my leg.
But something else caught my attention. In the very centre of the beach was a plate the size of lorry in width with room to spare. The circle plate had a man that looked familiar walking around the end, dropping liquid around the edge, he was doing a chant – or talking to himself – as his mouth moved as he poured.
Nathenial spoke up. "He's starting to heal, uh, tear? the barrier. That's Zarah's blood, they took it when you went to the other car."
"I wondered where the other car went," Azriel growled. "Zarah, that's Darius' father. You can be stupid and stop him, or you can be stupid and waste your energy on trying to stop another."
I stared at her. "So whatever I do is a stupid idea?"
She nodded.
I rolled my eyes. "Thanks."
Before I shifted, I searched the beach for a certain wolf. My heart winced when I didn't see Darius. "Find Darius."
I saw Azriel nod as I shifted, the moment the shift was over, I barreled down the hill like a battering ram rather than wolf. I made an arrow like tunnel to run in to stop from being attacked. Raziela with me. And it worked. Until one wolf was able to batter me in the side. I flew into another wolf who snapped at me – Ryan! I grinned at him and he replied in kind with a lick before his eyes snapped beyond me to another wolf. A moment later, he was in a new fight.
Looking back at the wolf who'd battered into me, I saw a oh. There was only one wolf I knew that size in half-form. Godric. Or, as others called him when in this form: Zeus. Making things worse, he still clearly had the white gold on him, it was the only way he could have stopped me. I growled at him, but then we heard Raziela's yelp. Spinning, Godric tackled the wolf, and I jumped forward and bit down, breaking and snapping every bone in the wolfs body. Godric finished off the wolf by plunging his fist into the wolf's chest.
With a snarl, I snap away, leaving Raziela with Godric. He'd protect her a hell of a lot more fiercely than I ever could. Creating the arrow sheild again I ran through wolves, making them bounce off my magic, one even managed to bounce over me. I mentally thanked my mother for teaching me this.
The moment I was close enough, my sights set on Darius' father, I pounced out of my shield, diminishing it, onto him, throwing him to the ground, shifting all the while to my half-form, a stronger form where my wolf was faster. My wolf and I snarled at the man, about to bite down–
I was thrown off him by magic. Magic from him. But where mothers magic was icy cold, his burnt like an inferno. His magic stroked my fur making me growl frusiously, my eyes shimmering completely black. What on earth was he?
I growled as he laughed, standing. "So your the bitch that has been causing me so much trouble over the years, huh? At least your pretty."
Baring my fangs I snapped my fangs at him, magic cascaded out, daggers directed at him. But like they were flies, he waved them away. Well that had never happened before. Darius' father laughed, making me wonder how strong this – whatever it was – blood was in Darius.
But even with the magic, his words confused me yet cleared Azriel's words. "I am an Angel, Fallen. You are nothing compared to me."
"Let's just say that he's the opposite to you. You're wolf, he's Omega..." You're Fallen, he's Angel.
With those words, he dropped the final drop of blood.
