After the day they got detention in the Forbidden Forest, Y/N tried to divert her attention by studying for the upcoming exams. However, her mind still can't help but wander back to the night in the forest and what Draco had said to her.

His words kept echoing in her mind throughout the days and even at night, 'I would never be friends with a mudblood.'

She hates to admit it but his words do sting more than she likes to say. But she tried her best to forget about it or at least distract herself from her thoughts.

She thought it would be best to stay away from Draco for now so that none of them would get hurt, mostly her. In the meantime, Y/N had been hanging out with the Golden Trio more often than not.

Hermione and her were the best of study buddies, always seen studying in the library together along with Harry and Ron. Although, Ron had been doing nothing but dozing off while Harry seemed to have a lot on his mind, constantly thinking and wincing at his aching scar.

Y/N knows after his encounter with the hooded figure in the Forbidden Forest, he was left traumatized and paranoid, and his scar was a constant reminder of it.

His scar would often ache more than it has ever before which only confirmed that the hooded figure they met was truly Voldemort himself.

The whole time Y/N was with them, the Philosopher's Stone never strayed far away from the conversation as it was always in the back of their minds and they'd occasionally discuss about it, apart for the upcoming exams.

That is why the moment the exams ended, it was back to investigating Snape and the Philosopher's Stone.

The Trio seemed really convinced that Snape wanted to steal the stone so he could bring Voldemort back into glory.

However, Y/N secretly knew that was not the case, but she knew better than to spoil the story's plot with her big mouth, and should just play along with them.

UNDER THE TRAPDOOR

The story goes exactly how it goes up until Harry, Ron, and Hermione play the live size wizard's chess. The only difference this time was there was an additional member: Y/N.

To put it simply, the FOUR of them had successfully snuck out of their houses and managed to sneak their way to Fluffy where they then dealt with the Devil's Snare, searched for the key to the locked door amongst thousands, and finally ended up in a room with a chessboard as tiles.

Each of them took their place on the board, playing as a black chess piece according to Ron's instructions.

Other than the red-haired boy, Harry and Hermione weren't quite good at wizard's chess so they had no choice but to trust Ron's judgement and followed as they were told.

Y/N, on the other hand, was quite decent at a game of chess, but she pretended not to as she didn't want to take away Ron's moment or change anything from the original too much. Hence, she just went along with everything they did without any question.

Ron, for an eleven-year-old, was doing quite well in directing the chess pieces to move and eliminating the white pieces. One by one, the white chess pieces were eliminated and they were getting closer to defeating the king. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could stop Ron.

However, he was eventually in a bind when he saw that there was no other way for them to win than to sacrifice himself.

Thus, the iconic scene unfolded right before Y/N's eyes, sending shivers down her spine.

"...I'll make my move, the queen will take me– then you're free to checkmate the king."

"No... RON, NO!" Harry cried.

"What is it?" Hermione asked confusedly.

"He's–"

"He's going to sacrifice himself." Y/N interrupted with a solemn expression.

"No, you can't! there must be another way–"

"Do you want to stop Snape from getting that stone or not!?" Ron snapped at her and looked back at Harry.

"Harry, it's you that has to go on, I know it. Not me. Not Y/N. Not Hermione. YOU."

Harry reluctantly nodded before Ron sighed deeply and went on with his plan.

"Knight to H3." He directed before Ron's chess piece moved in an 'L' pathway. "Check." He said.

Immediately, the white queen pounced on Ron, hitting him hard on his head with her stone arm, and knocked him to the floor.

Y/N and Hermione couldn't help but scream at the chaotic scene, but they didn't move from their places.

Shaken, Harry moved three spaces to the left. "Checkmate." He announced.

The white king threw his crown at Harry's feet. They had won. The chessman parted and bowed, leaving the door ahead clear.

But at that moment, they couldn't care less about the door as the three of them bolted towards the unconscious Ron and kneeled to his level to check up on him. He was fine, battered but fine. At least he was still breathing.

"Take care of Ron, then go to the owlery. Send a message to Dumbledore, we need him. I might be able to stop Snape for a while but I'm no match with him, really." Harry said.

"You'll be okay, Harry. You're a great wizard, you really are." Said Hermione with a hint of admiration.

"Not as good as you..."

"Me? Books and cleverness. There are more important things– Friendship and bravery and– Oh, Harry, just be careful."

"I'll go with him." Y/N chimed in.

Harry looked at her briefly before his eyes darted back to Hermione and Ron, giving them a worried look. He nodded at his friends before slowly standing up and headed towards the next passageway with Y/N by his side.

"They'll be alright," said Harry, trying to convince himself, "What do you reckon is next?"

"I can't remember..." Y/N muttered.

"What?"

"Nothing!" She quickly said.

Y/N once read the books in her previous life so she should know the answer to his question, but time had made her memories a bit fuzzy. All she knows is there'll be a few more rooms before they can reach the Philosopher's Stone.

They had reached another door.

Harry pushed it open and their nostrils were immediately bombarded by a disgusting smell, making them cover their noses. Their eyes were watering when they saw a troll flat on the floor in front of them, even bigger than the one they fought back on Halloween, out cold with a bloody lump on its head.

"I'm glad we didn't have to fight that one," Harry whispered as they stepped carefully over one of its massive legs.

"Yeah, I'm glad too. We'd probably die from the stench before it even kills us." Y/N whispered back, following him from behind.

They pushed the next door and curiously looked inside. This time, the room didn't seem at all frightening, just a table with seven differently shaped bottles standing in one line.

They stepped over the threshold and immediately a fire sprang up from behind them in the doorway. It wasn't any ordinary fire either; it was purple. At the same time, black flames shot up in the doorway leading onwards. They were trapped with no way of escaping.

"Look! There's a paper on the table." Y/N pointed out.

Harry took the rolled-up paper and read its content out loud:

Danger lies before you, while safety lies behind,

Two of us will help you, whichever you would find,

One among us seven will let you move ahead,

Another will transport the drinker back instead,

Two among our number hold only nettle wine,

Three of us are killers, waiting hidden in line.

Choose, unless you wish to stay here forevermore,

To help you in your choice, we give you these clues four:

First, however slyly the poison tries to hide,

You will always find some on nettle wine's left side;

Second, different are those who stand at either end,

But if you move onward, neither is your friend;

Third, as you see clearly, all are different size,

Neither dwarf nor giant holds death in their insides;

Fourth, the second left and the second on the right

Are twins once you taste them, though different at first sight.

A/N: This is how I imagined the scene would look like.

Harry scratched his head in bemusement, "What does this even mean?"

Y/N chuckled devilishly with a sly grin which made Harry even more confused as to why she was laughing at a time like this.

His brows, knitting in concern, "What?"

"It's a puzzle, a very clever one. But not too difficult for me." Y/N said with a smug expression and took the paper from Harry's hand.

"According to this, there are seven bottles: three are poison; two are wine; one will get us safely through the black fire, and one will get us back through the purple."

"But how will we know which one to drink?"

Y/N read the paper again and contemplated.

"I think the second on the left AND right are wine, so the three bottles in the middle are poisons. Which only leaves us with the potions that are on either end. We can drink those."

"Great," Harry said and was about to drink the rounded one on the right end of the line.

"WAIT—"

"What?" He stopped immediately.

"Remember, one of them will help us move forward while the other will send us back to where we came from."

Harry winced softly in frustration, "So which one should we drink?"

Y/N read the paper over and over again, searching for any more clues, but the answer was still not clear. If Y/N didn't know any better, this would be a game of luck.

Thankfully, she had read the 'Harry Potter' books before. Though she didn't remember most of it anymore, she remembered Harry moved forward ALONE for a reason.

"The smallest one will get us through the black fire; toward the stone." She said.

Harry looked at the tiny bottle.

"There's only enough there for one of us," he said, "That's hardly one swallow."

"Exactly. You have to go on alone, Harry."

"Me?"

"Yes. YOU. Hermione is right, you know. You're a great wizard, and that's a fact."

"Seriously, you all are overestimating me," Harry said, very embarrassed.

"Well, I can go if you don't want to–"

"No," he said firmly, "I'll go. You drink the round one and help Hermione and Ron. I'll take the small one and try to stop Snape from getting the stone."

The two nodded in agreement before Y/N drank from the round bottle at the end, and shuddered. She had forgotten the potion was described as ice when drinking.

"It's not poison, is it?" Said Harry anxiously.

"No, but it's cold— like ice."

"Quick, go, before it wears off."

"I'll see you later then."

"GO!"

Y/N nodded before turning and walking straight through the purple fire, leaving Harry behind to face danger, on his own, once more. However, just like before, she had full confidence that he would turn out fine eventually.
