11 months have passed since Adam and Betelgeuse had met each other's parents. Neither of them could believe that they had been dating for a full year.
"Hey handsome. Ready for the date?" Adam asked, coming up from behind Betelgeuse and turning him to face him before pushing him against the closed door, planting kisses down his neck. Betelgeuse pushed away as if he was rather uneasy. "Is everything okay, Neshama Sheli?" Adam asked, concerned.
"Yeah. I'm kay." Betelgeuse sighed so Adam left him be. Betelgeuse put on the same clothes he wore when they went on their first official date to the coffee shop, and Adam did the same, only with some different shoes.
"I can't believe we've been dating for a full year now. It's flown by so quickly." Adam commented as he got in the car with Betelgeuse and started the engine.
"Yeah. Happy anniversary." Betelgeuse forced an anxious smile. Even though Adam was playing Betelgeuse's favourite songs, he didn't respond, but rather stared out of the window as if lost in thought. When they pulled up to the beach, Adam found a vacant parking space and Betelgeuse stepped out of the car, put on his black tinted lens sunglasses, and went to pay for a ticket for the full day and displayed it on the dashboard of the car. Both gents got their bags out of the boot and started walking down to the beach and going over to the same spot as last time at the far end of the beach in between the rocks they climbed up. After setting their bags down, Adam and Betelgeuse unclipped a blanket from the bottom of the rucksack and rolled it out on the sand for them to lay on. Adam laid on his back, staring at the clouds in the sky. He suddenly felt some extra weight on himself and looked down to see Betelgeuse had made himself comfortable laying on top of him, resting his head on his chest, his arms wrapped around Adam's waist.
"Aww." Adam cooed, stroking his boyfriend's hair. "You alright?" He asked sweetly, even though he could tell that Betelgeuse was fine.
"Yeah. Love you." Betelgeuse sighed in a mixture of relaxation and contentment. His simple reaction was enough to give Adam a temporary release from the anxiety and fear that Betelgeuse wanted to break up or was not happy in the year long relationship. Adam kept on running his fingers through his hair, watching as Betelgeuse screwed up his face, clearly trying to not purr but he soon gave in and succumbed to the feeling of his lover showing him love and affection and begun purring.
"Ani hoshev sheata hamud." Adam kissed Betelgeuse's forehead.
"Love you." Betelgeuse smiled, looking up at Adam as if thinking about what to say. Adam reached over to the bag and rummaged around in it until he found the sandwiches and started eating.
"Want one?" Adam offered and Betelgeuse sat up, also eating a sandwich, looking completely lost in thought. After he finished, he had a large drink of water and wiped his mouth.
"Fancy climbing the rocks again?" He asked and Adam agreed. They climbed up the same large rock they did first, and Adam plucked up the courage to go onto the high platform. Once they got up there together, they sat. Adam was captivated by the blue and crystal clear blue shiny water that shimmered in the sunlight. Betelgeuse, on the other hand, was caught under a different spell. Betelgeuse couldn't seem to concentrate. He couldn't take his mind off Adam and how his smile shone brightly. He was flawless and magnificent in his eyes. He was weak in the knees because of his grin and features. He wasn't sure whether he was hallucinating, but he swears he saw his short hair softly blowing in slow motion. "A-Adam?" He caught the attention of the older male, snapping both of them out of their separate trances.
"Yeah?" Adam asked when Betelgeuse went quiet.
"Since the day I first met you, I knew I was in love with you. Your smile, your eyes, just everything about you makes me weak I love you." After a quick breath, Betelgeuse tightened his posture, cleared his throat, pulled a little black box from his pocket, and got down on one knee.
"Adam Maitland, will you marry me?" Betelgeuse asked, smiling shyly as he opened the box.
"YES!" Adam squealed, hugging Betelgeuse the tightest he ever has, planting a multitude of kisses on his face. Betelgeuse took Adam's left hand, and put a white gold ring on his finger. "Oh Beej, this ring is so beautiful!" Adam exclaimed, examining it close. "Wait..." Adam paused as he held the ring to the sandy beach below. "Is that sand from this beach?" He asked, tears in his eyes.
"Yeah. I collected it the first time we came here on the date." Betelgeuse mumbled, feeing it was a little too hackneyed.
"It's beautiful. Now I know why you've been quiet all day. You were reading cues to find the perfect moment to ask me, weren't you?" Adam asked, enamoured. Betelgeuse nodded, looking away.
"Oh. I also got you something else!" His eyes widened as he rapidly scrambled down the rock; after pulling something out of the bag, he climbed back onto the platform and gave a rectangular shaped box in plain blue wrapping paper. Betelgeuse smirked as Adam looked amused at the fact the present had been covered in sellotape all around. He started peeling back the tape and after a quarter on an hour, Adam managed to get the layer of wrapping paper off, only to find a layer of bubble wrap for him to unwrap, revealing a black box. Adam opened it, revealing a small oak wood handle that had been varnished and polished. It had a heart with 'Adamjuice' carved into it. Adam saw a little button on the side and pressed it and a blade protruded from it.
"Oh wow. You got me a new carving knife?" Adam smiled, kissing Betelgeuse.
"Probably not safe to be wafting that thing around, Adam." Betelgeuse reminded, backing away and Adam pushed a lever below the button, retracting the blade.
"C'mere. I love you so much!" Adam spoke, wrapping his arms around his partner. After a few moments of cuddling, they scrambled down the rocks and sat on the beach together, finishing their lunch with Betelgeuse leaning into Adam, who couldn't stop smiling and staring at the ring. They heard the lifeguard whistle blow and an announcement about the tide coming in quicker then usual, so they packed their things up and started walking back up to the car park. Betelgeuse started driving home, singing along with Adam to the radio. "Beej, you're going a little fast there." Adam chuckled and Betelgeuse slowed the car down slightly. When Betelgeuse eventually got parked, they went inside the apartment and ran upstairs, sitting on the sofa, Betelgeuse sitting in Adam's lap, getting passionately kissed by him.
"Ew. Get a room!" Lydia fake gagged as she watched from the kitchen, on face time with one of her friends.
"Go away if you don't like it." Betelgeuse scoffed, going back to making out.
"I don't like it!" Lydia called as she walked back into her bedroom.
"Hey. Good anniversary date?" Barbara asked, giving Betelgeuse a wink. Betelgeuse grabbed Adam's hand and showed it to her.
"Oh wow. Congrats. You finally asked him!" Barbara cheered.
"What are we cheering?" Lydia asked as she emerged from her room. Adam held his hand out for Lydia to see the ring on his finger. She covered her mouth with a loud squeal.
"He's been wanting to ask you for a while now. Ever since he met your parents." Lydia explained once she calmed her excitement.
"Wait, is that what you were talking to my parents about?" Adam asked.
"Yeah. I asked if they'd be okay with the marriage and then your mom policed me to decide." Betelgeuse smiled.
"Aw. You're so sweet. I love you!" Adam rested his head on Betelgeuse's shoulder, hugging him.
"I got interrogated." Betelgeuse mumbled.
"Do you know what? I fancy a boogie. Guys – a boogie?" Barbara asked, putting her arms out to the side.
"Oh, yeah! Always love a boogie!" Adam answered.
"I'll have a boogie." Betelgeuse stood up.
"I'm defiantly not having a boogie. No way!" Lydia scoffed, sitting on the sofa, still on FaceTime. Barbara grabbed a radio in the corner of the room and turned on some random music. Adam, Betelgeuse and Barbara all started dancing together.
"Come on, Lydia!" Barbara cheered encouragingly, pushing the foot rest to the other side of the room. Lydia begrudgingly stood up and lazily swayed her hips side to side and called it dancing. The song ended and it faded into Animal by Miike Snow. Everyone laughed but simply decided to live in the moment and let go and laugh together. Adam looked in the fridge at what they could drink. There was an unopened bottle of Prosecco so Adam asked is everyone wanted to share the bottle. Everyone agreed so Adam tried to open it. After peeling the shimmery golden foil and twisting the cage off the bottle, he tried to remove the cork but wasn't strong enough. Betelgeuse saw him unable to open it, so he went over and took the bottle from him and opened the bottle himself with ease. Adam smiled at the man he was getting married to. He still saw him as the same handsome man he had a crush on since the day they first met. Everything about him was perfect from his hypnotic honey eyes, fluffy grass green hair that complimented his tan skin tone. Adam always loved his short green stubble beard that framed his face well. He felt he was the luckiest man alive with the beauty of his boyfriend, soon to be husband. After everyone was handed a glass of Prosecco, they toasted the happy couple and all sipped at the drink. Barbara went to the kitchen and set up a bowl of crisps and her handmade dips for snacks for the spontaneous house party that erupted into full swing without any planning. To say the party wasn't planned and there wasn't much to do, everyone just had fun together, singing and dancing. Betelgeuse went into his bedroom and came back out with a karaoke set he was gifted that he hasn't really used. By the time everyone had exhausted themselves and their vocal cords, everyone was in a severely drunken state, with poor Lydia passed out on the sofa. Betelgeuse scooped her up and took her to her bedroom to sleep the alcohol away before coming back. Barbara was tired so decided to go to bed herself, leaving the boys up by themselves, holding each other in their arms.
"Wow. This day has been amazing. I love you so much." Adam smiled, staring into Betelgeuse's eyes.
"I love you too!" Betelgeuse smiled.
"I can't wait to tell my parents." Adam admitted.
"I bet. Y'know what, I don't know if it's because I'm super drunk. But I might ask my mom to come. It's been too long since I've seen her." Betelgeuse mumbled.
"If you wanna do that, I'm so on board!" Adam yelled.
"God. You're drunker than me. You need to calm down, Adam." Betelgeuse chuckled at his fiancé.
"I'm fine. Stop being a misery face." Adam giggled, throwing him arms around Betelgeuse's neck. "Hold me, Kharak. Never let go!" Adam slurred his speech.
"Yes, all right, Ad." Betelgeuse sighed, struggling as he picked up Adam and carried him to bed, pulling the covers over him. "If you feel sick, tell me." Betelgeuse ordered, leaving the room. In the very short time it to Betelgeuse to get a bucket from the kitchen, Adam was already asleep in bed. No one knew why, but every time he went to bed drunk, he would inevitably snore loudly. Betelgeuse lied awake in bed; he was unable to turn of his racing and fleeting thoughts. He couldn't stop thinking about the conversation he and Adam had before going to bed, and without Adam to help calm him down, his anxiety levels were quickly climbing as he got trapped in his own thoughts. He can get into moods a lot, whether they're depressive or hyper or angry, and whenever he's in a funk or just not in his own headspace, Adam will cuddle his negative emotions away. Moving to the sofa to try and clear his mind (and his ears from the obnoxious snoring) he sat and thought for a while about what he went through, and how much he wanted answers. Before he could think about anything else, he pulled out his phone and found his mother's contact in his phone. She was labelled as 'Demon Mom 👿'. He pressed call and held the phone to his ear, hearing the answers message tell him that the number he was calling was no longer available, and he knew she changed her number to escape him
