Kiera's POV
I felt a little nudge and woke up, I don't even remember falling asleep.
"Don't tell me you dribbled on my bed."
I smiled and wiped the side of my mouth. John ran out and yelled behind him.
"I'll get the others."
I looked back at Jake. "If you wasn't half dead right now, I would kick your ass. How could you be so stupid and get shot?"
"It wasn't my fault, the guy came out of nowhere."
I squeezed his hand tighter. "I thought I was going to loose you."
"Just shows, I'm stronger than you think."
I grinned and the door opened. John and the others came in. Maria ran to Jake and started to ask him a million questions. I stood up and moved away, so I was close to the door. James also made it, I wasn't sure what I though of James on one hand he saved my life, twice. On the other hand he was a d*ckhead to Jake, but we still decided that he should be Johns godfather, because we knew he would be safe in his hands. My mother walked towards me.
"Has he reached out to you?"
"Who? What are you talking about?"
"Never mind." She walked up to Jake and left me standing there confused. Everyone was surrounding Jake so I sat on a chair, at the back.
My phone began to ring. "I'll be back in a minute." I don't think anyone heard, But I walked out.
I walked outside the building and got punched by a breeze of fresh air.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Kiera Lawrence?"
"Kiera Carter." I corrected her.
"Sorry, I'm Chrissy, I'm calling from Oakland hospital."
"I'm there right now."
"Oh right, for Ian Tilley?"
"No, why what's wrong with him?"
"He's dying, and his wish is to spend his final days with you."
"I don't know if I can."
"He only has a few days miss Carter."
"I'll have to talk to my husband about this."
"Okay, call me back on this number, when you have decided."
"Okay."
"Bye, have a nice day."
"You too, bye."
I hung up and stood there. I knew Jake wasn't going to let me see him but his dying wish is to spend time with me, I can't ignore that. What kind of a person would I be?
Everyone started to leave one by one until it was just me, Jake and John.
"John could you run and get me a coffee please." I handed him my purse.
"Can I buy something?"
"Sure."
"Awesome, I'm going to the vending machines."
"Spend more than three pound and you'll be lying in a bed next to your dad."
He laughed and walked out, as soon as he left I told Jake about the call. He tried to sit up.
"You should just lie down, you're going to hurt yourself otherwise."
He lay back down.
"There's something I need to talk to you about. I got a call from the hospital."
"What did they say?" He asked.
"It wasn't about you though." I paused "It was about Ian. He's dying and his wish is to spend time with me."
"He doesn't deserve it."
"I know but, I can't ignore his dying wish, it's just cruel."
"Kiera, it's not going to happen."
"He's dying, he's not going to run at me with a machete. Plus there will be other people there too."
"Why ask me if you're just going to argue against me until I say what you want to hear."
"Because, I need to hear you say it. What would you do if it was your dad?"
"This is different."
"How is it different?"
"He didn't kill people."
"He still hurt you and your mother."
"You need to stop."
I took a deep breath and apologised. "Sorry."
"You need to make a choice. Him or me?"
"How do you expect-." The door opened and I stopped. John walked in.
"I didn't get you a coffee but I got you some chocolate."
"Thanks."
"Dad I didn't get you anything, sorry."
"That's okay, the nurse would probably tackle you down before you handed it to me."
Jake stared at me as though he was telling me to make my choice. I would choose this family over him any day. I rolled my eyes and sat down next to him. I took bites of my chocolate and sat back.
"Thank you." He paused, he obviously said thank you to me for making my choice but he began talking again, maybe so John doesn't think anything of it. "For coming, it means a lot to me."
"Why wouldn't we?" John asked innocently. Jake looked at me. "Is something wrong with you both? Mom?"
"No, nothing's wrong." I smiled "I love you guys, I would do anything for you." I held both their hands as I said it.
Jake cleared his throat. "John, after today, I realised that, I'm proud of you, no matter what. I love you." The smile on Johns face made my heart melt.
"Thanks. Love you too."
"Ahh, that was so beautiful, I wish I recorded that." I smiled and John took a picture.
"What was that for?" Jake asked.
John responded with, "I'm going to print it out onto leaflets and put them everywhere and the slogans going to be don't act like a fool, to try to be cool."
They both laughed but I didn't get the joke. I finished my chocolate and put the rapper on the side.
"You're so lucky I can't move." John laughed and I still didn't get what was happening. After a while the visiting hours were coming to an end and we were asked to leave. I bent down to give Jake a kiss on the head when he grabbed my arm and held it. He whispered in my ear "Promise me you won't see him."
"I can't."
"Then I won't let go."
"Then we'll be in this awkward position for a while and Johns standing right there."
He sighed and let go.
"Thank you" I whispered to him. The last person I wanted to annoy was Jake, but he wasn't looking at the big puzzle only pieces.
"Love you." I said before turning to leave.
"Love you too, sometimes."
I turned to see Jake with a smirk on his face, I couldn't help but grin.
