At the end of May Rory went back to work and her first day back at work was actually at night. A goodbye party for the current editor in chief who was retiring. Typically Logan would go with her to an event like this but Rory didn't want to leave Avery - who wasn't even 4 months old yet- with a babysitter, so Logan stayed home with the kids.

"Hey!" Marcus, one of Rory's coworkers said when he saw her walk by. "I didn't know you were coming"

"I'm back at work" Rory told him

"Really?"

"Starting tomorrow" Rory said. "But I wasn't gonna miss this"

"Well, it's good to see you. You look great"

"Thank you"

"How's the baby?"

"She's great" Rory said

"Good"

"Hey, do you know who the new editor is?" Rory asked

"They haven't announced it yet"

After spending about an hour catching up with her coworkers who she hadn't seen since December, Rory made her way over to the bar.

"Can I just get some water please?" Rory asked

"There she is" Arthur, the editor in chief said

"Hi Arthur" Rory smiled

"How are you feeling? You look great"

"Thank you" Rory said. "I'm feeling good"

"Well in that case, I have an offer for you" Arthur said

"I'm listening"

"How would you like to be editor in chief of the New York Times?"

"What?"

"Editor in chief" Arthur said. "The job is yours if you want it"

"Uh..."

"Look, they told me I could help choose the next editor, and if I'm being perfect honest, you're the only person I'd trust to take over. You work hard, and you care. Probably more than anyone else"

"You want me to be the editor in chief?" Rory asked

"Yes"

"Of the New York Times?"

"Yes"

——

March 21st 2035- almost 12 years later.

Oliver was 22 years old and was a senior at Harvard, majoring in Law.

Ollie was 21 (a few days away from his 22nd birthday) and was a senior at Stanford University, majoring in biomedical engineering.

Amelia was 19 years old and in her second year at Princeton, majoring in computer science.

Avery was 12 and in 6th grade.

One Friday morning Rory and Avery were sitting in the kitchen, eating breakfast.

"Is Mel coming home this weekend?" Avery asked

"Yes, and she's bringing Daniel" Rory said. Daniel was Amelia's boyfriend.

"What about Oliver?"

"Which one?" Rory asked

"Both"

"Oliver's coming, and you know that Ollie can't"

"But he hasn't been back in forever" Avery said. Ollie hadn't been able to go home and visit since the beginning the school year started in September, and they hadn't been able to go visit him between Rory and Logan's work schedules and Avery's school.

"I know" Rory said. "But we're going to visit him in a couple of weeks, remember?"

"Yeah, I remember"

Just then Logan walked into the kitchen. "Bean, we leave in 5"

"I'm walking" Avery told him

"With who?" Logan asked. A lot of the time Logan drove Avery to school on his way to work, but sometimes she liked to walk with her friends.

"Missy and Kate"

"Ok, then I'm leaving now" Logan said. He put his hand on Rory's waist and quickly kissed her. "Bye Ace"

"See you later" Rory said

"Bye dad" Avery said Andrew Logan left. "It's gross when you guys do that"

"What?" Rory asked. "Kiss?"

"Yeah"

"How do you think you got here?"

"I actively avoid thinking about it" Avery said

Rory chuckled. "Go to school"

"Bye mom" Avery said

"Bye"

Rory was working from home that day, and around noon she was sitting in the kitchen, reading through some articles that had been sent to her when there was a knock at the door. Rory got up to opened the door and was shocked to see Ollie standing there with Logan behind him. "Oh, my god!"

"Surprise" Ollie said and wrapped his arms around Rory. He could hear her sniffle "Mom, don't cry"

"I'm not" Rory said and let go of Ollie to wipe her eyes. She teased up a little, but she wasn't crying. The real crying would come when Avery saw him.  Just then she noticed how short his hair was. Ollie had kept his hair at shoulder length since he was a kid. Now his hair was short on the sides and the top only went to his chin. "You cut your hair!" She gasped.

"I did" Ollie nodded

"It looks good. I like it" Rory said

"Good because Elle hates it" Ollie chuckled. Elle, or Eleanor to everyone who wasn't Ollie, was his girlfriend. "Ok, she doesn't hate it, but she said it looks weird"

"It does" Logan said

"You'll get used to it" Ollie said

Rory and Logan had lunch with Ollie before Logan had to go back to work. A little later in the afternoon, Ollie walked with Rory to pick up Avery. They were standing outside the school, waiting for Avery to walk out.

"She asks me every single day when you're coming to visit" Rory said. "She really misses you". Everyone missed Ollie and he knew that, but Avery took it really hard when Ollie moved to California 4 years before for college.

"I miss her too" Ollie said. "I miss all of you"

"So, did you decide what you're doing after graduation?" Rory asked

"I got into a few med schools. I'm still deciding which to go to" Ollie said. "Probably Harvard"

"Harvard's good" Rory said "What's Eleanor doing?"

"Ok, she's not the reason I'm leaning towards Harvard for medical school, but she is gonna be at Harvard law next year"

"Good. You'll be together. That's good" Rory said. "And you'll be closer to here, which I'm not complaining about"

"Yeah, that's gonna be nice"

"I'm still mad at you for going so far"

Ollie chuckled. "I know"

A few minutes later Avery walked out of the school and was shocked to see Ollie standing there. "Ahh!" She squealed and ran to hug her brother who picked her up so he could hug her back. She couldn't keep herself from crying and just buried her face in Ollie's shoulder.

"Hey" Ollie said and rubbed her back. "Why are you crying?"

Avery sniffled. "203 days"

"I know, kid. I missed you too" Ollie said. He tried to put Avery down but she tightened her grip around him.

"Don't let go" Avery said

"Ok"

——

Even after Richard and Emily had both passed, they continued Friday night dinners. Usually on the weekends that Oliver or Amelia came home they drive to Stars Hollow for dinner and then back to New York with Rory, Logan, and Avery.

When Rory and Logan got to Stars Hollow with Avery and Ollie they went straight to the diner, knowing that Lorelai and Luke would both be there.

"Oh, my god!" Lorelai said when she saw Ollie walk into the diner. She got up from her seat at the counter and went to hug him.

"Hi grandma" Ollie chuckled

"When did you get here?"

"This afternoon"

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't tell anyone" Ollie said

"It's good to see you" Luke said

"Yeah, you too"

Everyone sat down at the counter to catch up over coffee and about 20 minutes later Amelia walked in with her boyfriend Daniel. "Holy shit!" She said loudly, getting the attention of pretty much everyone in the diner. "Sorry" she said, mostly to Rory, before going to hug her brother. "What the hell did you do to your hair?" She asked and ran her hand through Ollie's hair

"Um, can you not?" Ollie asked and pushed her hand away.

"You look weird" Amelia said

"Mel..."

"Sorry" Amelia said. "It's good to see you"

"You too"

"Daniel, this is Ollie. Ollie, Daniel" Amelia said. She'd been with Daniel for over a year, but Ollie had never met him.

"Nice to meet you" Daniel said

"Yeah, it's nice to finally meet the guy who's doing my sister" Ollie teased. Daniel went bright red.

"Dude" Amelia smacked Ollie's arm

"Hey!" Logan said. He wasn't naive, he knew that Amelia was an adult and was gonna do adult things, but when it came to his kids' love lives (especially his daughters) he chose to go with the 'ignorance is bliss' approach.

"What?" Ollie asked. "We're all adults here"

"I'm not" Avery said.

"New topic please" Rory said.

Just then Oliver walked in. "Dude!"

Ollie laughed.

"You're a jackass" Oliver said as he hugged Ollie.

"Right back at you" Ollie said

"Oh man, it's good to see you"

"You too"
