II.12
Being a demon hunter really is dangerous. Who knows how many times Yuna has met her mother in front of the Sanzu River after she started her career as one.
Every time she saw her, all she asked was whether she has lived a happy life or not.
And whenever she miraculously survived a life-threatening accident, she has to endure a round of hellish training and yelling from her master.
She wanted to avoid that situation, but it was inevitable, it happened too often.
Right now, for example.
A young boy wearing a green, checkered kimono was walking through the snowy forest, a wooven basket on his back. When he spotted a body below a tree, he let out a scream.
"A-are you okay?!" He rushed toward the body. It was a girl, body covered in blood and snow. The boy carefully lifted her body and leaned her against the tree.
He frantically took out a bamboo flask from his kimono and poured the water into her mouth.
The girl moved her face away to gargle and spit the water away, startling the boy.
"Whew... I never thought I could drink from that river..." She mumbled.
"Are you okay?! You have a bad wound there!" The boy asked in worry. The girl turned to him with a raised brow.
"Ah, I'm fine. Thank you for helping me." She said. She took out her sword, the green blade glistening.
"Why are you travelling with a demon?" She asked, pointing the tip of her blade to the boy's back.
The boy quickly jumped away from her, holding up an arm protectively. He noticed the uniform she was wearing.
"Are you also a demon hunter?" He asked.
"You know about demon hunters?" She asked back, standing up with a groan.
"I met someone wearing a similar uniform... He was... wearing a weird haori, I think." He said.
"Oh, him... Anyway, why are you protecting a demon?" She asked.
"She's my sister!" The boy exclaimed. "My sister has been turned to a demon- B-but she won't eat humans!"
"There are no demons that don't eat humans. Even my father ate one." She said.
"Nezuko won't eat any humans! She even protected me!"
"... Alright then."
"H-huh?"
The girl sheathed her blade. She stretched her body and the boy winced, "Are you sure you can move like that? The wound might reopen..."
"It's fine. I've stopped the bleeding." She said. "Where are you going to take that demon to?"
"S-Sagiri Mountain... But, how can you believe in my words that easy? That guy earlier tried to kill us..." He muttered.
"We're different, of course." She said.
"Isn't letting a demon live a violation of your work?"
"It's fine... Well as long as my master doesn't know about this then I'll be fine. Anyway you almost reach your destination so I think you don't need any help." The girl said.
"I have to go back now or else I won't hear the end of it... Thank you again for helping me." The girl bowed at him.
"Then, good bye."
Before he could ask about her father who ate a human, she already disappeared into thin air, just like how the half-and-half haori guy did earlier.
Yuna leapt through the forest, finding her way out. She stopped right as soon as she stepped out from the forest, turning around.
"... How can someone be as kind as him...? There's not even a spec of bad intentions coming from him..." Yuna muttered.
If Yuna would describe the boy she just met, he would be someone so gentle that it makes her want to cry.
She shrugged her thoughts and walked to her house. As soon as she arrived at the empty house, she took a bath and washed the blood off from her haori.
She sat down on the floors with a medication box beside her. She started to treat her own wound until the door was abruptly opened and she snapped her head toward it.
"Good morning, Shinazugawa-san. I see you're getting another scar there."
The man who just returned from his mission also had a cut on his arm. He rolled his eyes and sat down across Yuna, taking the ointments and started treating Yuna's wounds.
"Why didn't you go to the Butterfly Estate?" He asked.
"I can treat them myself so I don't need to go there. Someone might need them more than me." Yuna said.
"So? Care to enlighten how you got these much wounds?" Sanemi asked, tying the bandage as tight as possible until Yuna's face turned blue.
"Eh, nothing muc- Ow!! Are you trying to treat me or kill me?!"
"Both."
Yuna's jaws dropped to the floors. She was thinking of treating Sanemi's wound but on second thought, she'll let him do it himself. As soon as he's finished treating her, Yuna left the house.
"I'm going to Eri-san's house to check up on her. Kimura-san actually asked me to look after her today but I had a mission." She explained.
"Why are you still working there anyway?"
"Her baby is adorable. He's two years old now." Yuna raised two fingers at Sanemi.
"See you later, Shinazugawa-san." Yuna waved at him before running away, Sanemi didn't even remind her about her wounds. He's too tired telling his shithead disciple to take care of herself.
Yuna skipped her way to the neighboring village. Fatigue? That's non-existent after almost five years of training with the demon itself.
When Yuna arrived at the house, she stopped by the slightly open door. They never leave the door open, especially at nights.
And why can she feel a demon's presence inside?
Grabbing her sword, Yuna bursted through the door. She froze when she saw a demon inside, flipping the futon on the floors.
Breath of Wind, First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter!
Yuna unsheathed her blade and dashed forwards, slashing the demon's neck cleanly. Ignoring the already crumbling body of the demon, she looked around the house.
No one was inside the house.
She didn't know how long the demon has been staying there. Did she arrive late?
Her legs wobbled and she fell on her knees, mind filled with the dreadful thought of the person she cherished dying again.
She should've dropped her mission and come as soon as Kimura asked her to.
She could've saved them.
She was the one who let them die.
As those thoughts filled her head, she noticed that there was no blood at the floors.
"I-Is that you, dear?"
A muffled voice was heard.
Yuna snapped her head toward the wardrobe. She stumbled her way there, grabbing the handle and opening the wardrobe.
"? Yuna! Yuna!" A cheerful voice of a boy exclaimed.
Relief washed over her as she saw Eri and her son, Akira, alive and safe. Yuna crouched down, grabbing her head and letting out a sigh.
"Yuna-chan... Oh God, thank you so much, Yuna-chan..." Eri climbed down from the wardrobe and wrapped her arms around Yuna. The little boy followed suit, completely oblivious to what just happened.
"I'm sorry, I should've come sooner." Yuna said.
"Don't be! You saved our lives!" Eri smiled despite her body trembling.
Yuna sighed again, rubbing her temples. Maybe she should live with them? Sanemi can take care of himself, right? Then again, he probably won't make breakfast and just eat whenever he feels hungry.
Maybe she should ask her cousin to live here?
"Yuna! Pway!" Akira exclaimed.
Yuna looked at the black haired boy, who was smiling widely at her.
"Okay. What do you wanna play?" Yuna asked, a big smile on her face as she picked him up in her arms.
And that's her daily life now. Killing demons, getting scolded by her master, and spending time with this small but happy family.

Meanwhile at another village...
"Caw!"
An eighteen years old young man looked up at the crow. He raised his arm and let the crow land on it. He took the letter that it was carrying.
"Good day, Master Hiroto!"
"Yeah, good day to you too." The young man answered, quite confused as to why his cousin's crow likes him so much.
He opened the letter and read the only sentence written on it.
Can you quit your job and live here?
An irk mark appeared on his head.
"That's it? This is her first letter after months and she's telling me to quit my job?"
"That stupid cousin of mine... Who does she think she is?!"
"Caww! Stupid Yuna!"
"That's right! She's stupid!"
"Caww! Stupid!"
Maybe that's the reason why her crow likes him a lot.
__________
Just a chapter to describe her life now.
Let's hope together so the chapters will get fluffier and... hotter... from now on.
