I had successfully made it back onto the path after leaving the infestations crater and was back on track towards the 'Deadmans Graveyard' once more.
After the infestation, I had encountered only a few monsters here and there while on the path - mainly low to mid level ones, that opposed basically no challenge to me whatsoever.
It was like that for the next 2 days of my journey - quite uneventful. However, the moment day 4 of my journey began, things went in the way, I could never have expected.
I was only 1 more day away from reaching the 'Deadmans Graveyard' - my journey to here was almost over. Sure, I'd have to travel back all this distance when going back to Ordial, however when returning, I'll probably just be using my
[Shadow Manipulation] skill to quickly move back to the town and then if I'm asked about how I got back so fast, I'll just chuck it up to my Black Magic skill.
Even if I didn't have it - Black Magic spells could still be used with [Abyss Magic], so technically I wasn't lying about it.
I was just... Misleading a bit. Or I guess the correct way to put it, would be that I was twisting the story to my advantage to appear less suspicious.
That could be the right way to put it.
I guess..
I was currently somewhere inside of a different forest - the Blue Skies Forest. And I have to say, I can definitely see why it was named that.
All trees in the forest had ridiculously blue petal like leaves, which I have to say, resembled the Cherry blossom Sakuras that I knew from my previous world.
Just- replace the pink with blue.
That's the real difference.
....Alright, there were several differences - happy?
Anyways - the blue trees were very beautiful to look at I gotta say, however despite their beauty, I kept my guard up high as well as my skill,
[Overworld Detection] active the whole time. If the map was anything to go off of, this forest was home to some truly nasty enemies - mainly, wyverns.
Now, I don't know what they looked like, but wyverns were described as 'failed births of dragons' since they had only some dragon like qualities.
The main thing that made them fall into the category of non-dragon is their complete lack of the Individual Skill [Dragon Magic] or any of its variants, which every dragon was said to posssess.
Despite even this, these creatures apparently were ruthless, mindless monsters that attacked anything that moved - and apparently, they were not to be underestimated, since a single Wyvern would already be a challenge for a party of A-Rank adventurers.
However.... Given my ridiculous stat increase I got from my evolution I had around 2 days ago, I had nothing to really worry about.
Unless some god level, time manipulating Wyvern showed up or something.
I simply sighed to myself.
'Gotta say, this trip has been boring. So I'm excited to finally get it over with.'
I thought, before looking up at the sky. The sun was up high, beaming down onto the world below it. Watching it, made me suddenly wonder - does this world also have a cosmos? Are the people or creatures of this world aware of outer space and it's vast mysteries?
In my old world, the outer space was a well known, widespread knowledge - it was one of humanities biggest mystery filled areas, next to oceans.
So as someone who came from that world, I had this strange situation where I felt like I knew things, this world wouldn't understand.
Well... That much was actually obvious. I mean, in my world we had technology, no magic and some seriously deadly weapons.
Meanwhile here... The deadliest weapon could be just magic or something.
I continued to wander forward for a little while, before eventually hearing the sound of what sounded like a bunch of... Growling or roaring creatures. Using [Overworld Detection] I was able to get a clear idea of where the sounds were coming from before, getting an idea of their numbers.
'Around 8... No, 9 creatures gathered around in a single area.... Something is definitely up over there.'
I thought, before stopping and beginning to contemplate whether I should go over to the gathered monsters and see what's going on over there.
In the best and most favourable scenario, I get some extra exp for myself. In the probably worse and unfavorable scenario, I would end up having to save yet another person, which I wanted to avoid.
Not because I don't care about saving others, it's because I was quite literally in the middle of nowhere, so finding another person in the middle of here would be quite unfavourable.
After all, how was I supposed to help them get back?
After a bit, I sighed, before turning towards the source of the sounds and beginning to walk towards it.
Screw it, I was going to just wipe out the flock of monsters over there and keep going. If I find another person there, I'll ignore them - maybe try to find a way to heal them.
After walking for a little bit, I eventually stumbled upon the group of monsters. And ironically, it was a flock of wyverns - the monster I was just talking about being the nastiest ones to find here.
They seemed to be gathered around something in the middle of them all.
'Well god damnit. Guess it was inescapable to encounter another person here after all..'
I thought, before sighing.
I sighed again, before walking out into the field, before cracking my fists, hitting one of my foots onto the ground, causing the wyverns to look over at me with rageful and anger filled eyes.
"Come on you oversized disgusting lizards - Come take on someone equal to your own strength."
I stated coldly, my eyes shining red for a slight moment.
The wyverns roared at me before flying up into the air and beginning to fire off fire ball attacks towards me. I quickly leaped into the air, before getting a quick view on the person they had gathered around.
She looked quite important.. and a bit further away, there seemed to be a pile of dead guards as well as two or so maids. Then, even further away, there was a tipped over and heavily damaged carriage.
'They must have been escorting whoever that girl they gathered around is, before being attacked by the wyverns. Well, I'll wipe out the Wyverns and see what I can do to help the people on the ground.'
I thought, before looking at the flock of wyverns, before leaping off a platform, dashing at the creatures, before using [Abyss Magic] to quickly decapitate one of the wyverns in an instant.
The other wyverns watched as one of their own crashed into the ground, dead.
They then roared loudly at me before charging all together towards me.
'Well that's just a stupid strategy-'
I thought, before sighing. I then created a platform before landing onto it and then closing my eyes as I began to use my [Abyss Magic] skill to cast a spell.
"Desimate the masses, cause a calamity greater than a dragons attack - wipe off those I deem as enemies from this world..."
I opened my eyes, as they shined black for a moment.
"Storm of Catastrophic Abyss."
I finished the chant, as the spell was executed. Giant, pitch black clouds began to rise in the air above me and the wyverns, before forming a circle and beginning to spin.
As the wyverns approached rapidly, the clouds sent down pure black lightning down onto the wyverns, shocking them all in an instant.
After that, I dashed at the wyverns and in a swift movement, decapitated the rest of them, before causing the earlier spell to dissipate and the wyvern dead bodies to crash down into the ground.
'Well... That was easier than I expected.'
I thought, before falling back to the ground, landing a bit softly. I then quickly grabbed my [Devourer] bonus from the dead wyverns, before walking over to the girl they had gathered around earlier.
Examining her closer, she looked like a possible member of a noble family line that you see in every isekai story.
Her clothes definitely were not anything like the citizens I had seen back in Ordial. I'd say the closest person I've seen to her outfit, was the Ordial Adventuring Guilds Guildmaster Gidou.
But even then, she was a tier above. I kneeled down to examine her a bit closer - mainly her injuries. After rolling her onto her back, I took a good look at the girl.
Blonde hair, white and light pink coloured dress, young looking - at max I'd say around 17 maybe and a surprisingly clean attire.
There was no doubt about it - she was most definitely a noble. However, as for her injury... It seemed pretty bad.
There was a rather decently sized 'cut' in her stomach, which was probably caused my the wyverns.
'Sages' Wisdom, analysis report.'
Understood.
Generating report...
Successful.
Analysis suggests that none of the people in the vicinity bare life anymore.
I figured as much... They've all already died. That may cause some problems.
I thought for a moment, about what I could possibly do. I mean, I wasn't Arc, I didn't have a regeneration skill or something with which I could ressurect the dead.
In reality, it looked like it was far too late and I couldn't do anything to help these people.
I thought for a bit, before sighing.
'I have no skills or magic that can help. They're gone permanently.'
I sighed again, getting up before preparing to use [Devourer] on them to atleast take their Magical Energy.
Use of [Devourer] unpermitted.
Skill not activated.
...What the hell? Did [Sages' Wisdom] to cancel the use of [Devourer]?
But why?
Answer;
It is possible to help these people.
It is? I don't know whether you've noticed it since you're a skill yourself, but I have no abilities to do with ressurecting the dead.
Wrong.
Sacrificing the skill [Second Life] will allow you to bring back all these people to life, however will also result in the loss of the skill.
I can... Use [Second Life] on others as well? That's certainly... Surprising and convenient. However, also a bit strange.
Positive.
Well...
I looked around at all the dead bodies. I then recalled the story from which Arc was - he had been in a similar situation, however his use of his skills to revive the dead, resulted in history being 'rewritten' - atleast, in my opinion it did.
So, was it really okay for me to revive all these people? What if I also change something that was vital to this worlds history?
I thought about it for a good long while, before eventually sighing.
Screw it - I doubt I was gonna need the skill anyway, so I suppose this use case scenario was better than it just sitting and collecting dust.
I extended my right arm, befor closing my eyes.
'Sages' Wisdom - do it.'
Command accepted.
Using the Skill [Second Life] to revitalise the deceased in area of effect.
As the skills activation began, a giant golden magic circle appeared below my feet and engulfed the ground all the way up to the furthest away guard.
Then, the bodies were being rapidly healed, all their injuries disappearing in matter of seconds.
Lastly, their life was replenished as well as their lost Magical Energy was replaced with the excess one in the air around.
As the revival process continued on for a little bit, before eventually the circle faded and I lowered my arm.
Revitalisation successful.
All individuals that were previously deceased have been brought back to life.
Epic Skill [Second Life] has been lost.
I opened my eyes before looking at the now healed individuals. I quickly kneeled down, checking the girls breathing and thankfully, she was now breathing again.
'It fucking worked. Incredible.'
I thought, sighing before getting back up to my feet. I should probably get out of here before they all wake up - I don't want to engage in conversation with other people right now.
As I turned around, the young girl suddenly groaned a bit, before slowly opening my eyes. Luckily, she only managed to catch a few glimpses of me, before I quickly sunk into my own shadow, disappearing from view.
[?] "S-Saviour..?"
She stated quietly, before falling asleep again.
A little while later, the girl and every other person I had revived had awoken, all being thrown into a state of great confusion, while the maids at the young, noble girl were quite emotional about seeing eachother alive.
I watched from a distance, within the trees, thinking over whether it was the right choice to revive them after all. I had no idea what kind of consequences this action of mine today, was going to have onto the future.
Who knows, maybe I just changed the outcome of a very important, future event.
I sighed a moment or two later, before getting up and leaping down from the tree, stepping away before sinking into some shadows again, leaving the noble girl and all those guards as well as the two maids alone.
May they get to wherever they were headed safely.
I then resumed my journey and continued to walk for hours, before eventually reaching the final field. Off into the distance, I saw it. A land that bordered with the field, with grey, dead grass, spread out, dead trees - The Deadmans Graveyard.
I had finally arrived, after a 5 day long journey. Now, it was time to finish my quest.
