(Third person P.O.V.)
Heyleigh and Kellin are sitting on the couch in the living room having a conversation. Andy and Layla are taking watch outside on the roof, and Copeland is asleep in the bedroom, leaving them with each other.
"So, just wondering, do you sing?" Heyleigh randomly questions her friend. Looking down, Kellin shyly replys, "Nah, not really."
Giving him a playful shove, the nineteen year old girl tells him, "Liar, let me hear you!" Kellin sighs, knowing she didn't believe his lie. Shaking his head, he replies to her, "Maybe some other time."
"Please?" Heyleigh says, giving him puppy dog eyes. With a failed attempt, she let's her shoulders drop and the room falls into silence. Copeland stirs in her sleep, catching the group of two's attention.
"Should we check on her?" Kellin wonders aloud. Heyleigh answers him by saying, "I think she'll be okay, everyone moves in their sleep sometimes." He agrees with her.
At the mention of the small child, Heyleigh remembers the question she has been wanting to ask since her first encounter with the young man and his daughter.
"If you don't mind me asking, where exactly is her mother?" Instantly, Kellin's face grows sad. Looking at his lap, he stutters, "Um."
Trying to fix her mistake, she quickly tells him, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset. You don't have to answer if you don't want to talk about it."
He glances at her, then relaxes his gaze back to his hands. "It's okay," he mumbles. "She, um, she passed away a long time ago, before all of this happened. She was driving home from work when a drink driver, he, um. . ." He trails off, fighting back tears.
Heyleigh reached over and holds his hand in hers, trying to comfort him.
He continues quietly, "Copeland was just a few months old then, ever since I've raised her on my own."
Squeezing Kellin's hand and scooting closer, Heyleigh's eyes are filling with tears as well. "I'm so sorry." She whispers. He squeezes her hand back.
Kellin looks into Heyleigh's eyes and unwillingly let's one single tear fall. "I really miss her."
Then they're holding each other tightly, Kellin softly crying into her shoulder.
After a while they pull apart.
"I'll check on Copeland." Heyleigh says. He gives her a questioning look. "Just to be sure."
She stands up and starts walking towards the bedroom. Before she reaches it, Kellin stands up and rushes towards her. "Wait!" She turns around to face him.
"Thank you," he says. "It felt nice to finally let it out." Heyleigh smiles at him and shrugs her shoulders. "What are friends for?"
Without warning, Kellin leans forward and kisses her cheek. "I mean it, thank you."
They lock eyes for a moment, then go their separate ways. Kellin's sitting back on the couch, Heyleigh checking on Copeland. Both of their hearts racing.
