An: This is a request I got from aylasummer and your peculiarity is to give pain to someone if you touch them. But there is a twist! (A cliché twist, but a twist nonetheless) If you are to touch your true love, you cannot hurt them. So please, sit back and enjoy.
Contains mild depression and a few swear words.

You sat in your bedroom... alone, like usual. You heard the cheerful shouts of the children all outside in the warm weather. They were on their way for a day at the beach. Once their shouts faded and the house regained its peacefulness, you slowly got up and walked to the door to your bedroom. You were starving, having skipped breakfast due to the fact everyone was eating together. You never attended the meals that everyone ate at. You ate on your own time, usually when everyone was out or asleep. You didn't need to worry about accidentally running into anyone and making physical contact. The yelps and quiet screams of pain were terrible. Even just slightly touching someone inflicted immense pain. The longer and stronger the contact, the more extreme the pain. And despite the fact everyone did their very best to try and not cause too much commotion when you did touch them, their eyes showed it.
You had just entered the kitchen and began making food when someone came in behind you. As quickly as you could, you grabbed your half-made sandwich and headed back towards the stairs. But stopped when you noticed who had entered. It was Enoch. And he was carefully studying your every move.
"May I help you?" You asked quietly. Enoch regained his usually, slouching posture and shook his head. You nodded slowly and headed back upstairs to your room.
Once safely in your room, door closed and locked, you let out a sigh. Damn. Why'd he have to be so cute? Why'd I have to get this peculiarity? The one thing keeping me from any type of relationship is myself, and I can't even fix it. And out of all people, I have the biggest crush on Enoch O'Connor. Fuck my life.
The rest of the children arrived around five and ate shortly after. Emma came to your room right before to tell you supper was ready, in case you ever decided to change your mind. You never did though. But it's the thought that counts.
Everyone is in bed by eleven. You are downstairs to get something to eat soon after. You aren't really in the mood for a heavier meal, so you just grabbed some fruit. On your way back upstairs, though, you heard one of the doors upstairs open.
Shit. You thought. But it was too late to try and walk the other way because the person was already walking downstairs. It was Enoch. You slowly moved past him, walking as close the wall as you could, keeping a relatively safe distance. You could hear your heart pounding. Damn, he was cute.
You made it to your room with no other problems. A few seconds after you were back in your room, you heard Enoch shuffle back to his room. Strange you thought he was only out of his room for a couple of seconds... but he's Enoch, so who knows. You ate quickly and went to sleep. You were exhausted from a long day of sitting and staring at a wall.

You awoke with a start. The house was awake and Emma was notifying you that breakfast was ready. But you weren't hungry, so you remained in your room mentally preparing yourself for today's "lesson" on controlling your peculiarity. You had a lesson with Miss Peregrine every week. You hated these lessons because she generally made you practice on someone. You'd use different methods of mental and physical "restraints" in order to attempt to not hurt the person. It generally was the older children. It was terrible. They always were in pain. You could tell.
After getting dressed and sitting for an hour, Miss Peregrine knocked on your door and told you it was time for the lesson. Sighing, you stood up and walked to the door. You headed downstairs to the library, where you generally had your lessons.
"So," you began quietly, "is it Emma again?"
"No, it's Mr. O'Connor. Oddly, he volunteered." Replied Miss Peregrine.
Your heart stopped. Enoch O'Connor volunteered? Not only that, but he volunteered for me to inflict pain? Why? He is never one for that kind of stuff. You shrugged it off as you opened the door. Enoch was sitting on a chair looking down, his head shot up when the door opened.
"Miss Y/L/N is going to attempt to mentally stop herself from inflicting pain, so hold out your arm." Miss Peregrine demanded. Enoch rolled his sleeve up slightly and braced himself. His eyes closed slightly and you could see his teeth gritting.
You sighed, not wanting to hurt the boy you had a crush on. But you did it anyway. You concentrated on doing the opposite of what you always do. You slowly reached out and lightly touched his arm, and pulled back as quickly as possible. You looked up to read his expression, but he didn't look pained. He looked... shocked.
"Mr. O'Connor wha-"
"Nothing," Enoch said, cutting off Miss Peregrine.
"What do you mean 'nothing'?" You asked.
"Nothing. No pain. Nothing." He said.
"Miss Y/L/N, try again, but not as light." Miss Peregrine said.
You nodded and concentrated again, carefully touching his arm with a bit more pressure. Enoch shook his head again and Miss Peregrine nodded.
"Perhaps we should try someone else?" Miss Peregrine suggested. You nodded and Enoch got up to leave. "Mr. O'Connor, please, send Emma in here." He nodded and walked out.
A few minutes later, Emma walked in and stood in front of you.
"I heard you have your peculiarity under control?" Emma asked.
"Let's not jump to conclusions now, Emma. Please," Miss Peregrine said, gesturing to her arm.
"Oh, right, of course." Emma held out her arm in front of you. You concentrated, just like you did earlier, then briefly touched her arm, making minimal contact. She drew in a sharp breath and you knew you hurt her.
"Emma, I am so so so sorry, I thought I had but I don't. I'm really truly sorry." You said looking at her.
"It's fine, try again, I'm sure you'll have it."
"Emma I really don't want to, I feel terrible."
"It's ok, just try." She said.
"Fine." You concentrated and swiftly brushed your fingertips over her forearm and she flinched slightly.
"Shit, I'm sorry Emma." You said.
"Language Miss Y/L/N." Miss Peregrine said.
"My apologies Miss."
"Miss Bloom, if you could step out, I'd like to have a word with Miss Y/L/N." Miss Peregrine stated, turning to Emma.
"Yes, of course, Miss," Emma said as she left the room. Miss Peregrine turned to you as the door closed. You had no clue what was coming.
