At dinner, Koby ate three-fourths of his food, since Sanji had made his portion smaller than before. The Marine washed the remaining dishes and listened to the conversation, like he had at lunch.
Sanji came up beside him and started helping him wash the dishes. Koby dried and rinsed, Sanji washed and scrubbed.
"You don't eat much, hm?" Sanji commented out of the blue to him.
"Uh- I guess I don't. I never really noticed until I joined the Navy that I don't eat as much as others." Koby stumbled on his words a bit, and felt embarrassed.
"Is it because Ameba?" Luffy said out of the blue, his words barely comprehensible because of the sheer amount of pasta shoved into his mouth."
"W-.. Huh?" Koby stared at Luffy in suprise.
"Ameeva. Or.. was it Aleeda- Ameebo? You know, the fat pirate lady?"
"Oh.. Alvida?" Koby stopped.
"Yeah! Her. Wasn't she like, super mean to you?" Luffy said, his eyes wide as he sidled up to Koby and leaned on the counter.
"You.. you remembered that..?" Koby bit the inside of his cheek.

"Yeah!"
"I-" Koby's voice suddenly decided to go on vacation leave. He stared at the pirate with those big eyes, filled with purity and kindess. The pirate who had a smile so bright and dazzling the sun paled in comparison, and who's scars were even beautiful.
Koby's face flushed fifty shades of red as Luffy leaned in so close the Marine could feel his breath on his nose and waved his hand infront of his face.
"Hello? Earth to Koby!" Luffy grinned so wide, his eyes closed.
"I- Yeah.. I- I was just surprised you remembered. That.. That makes me really happy."
"Why? I don't forget people who hurt my best friends!" Luffy frowned childishly, and to Koby, it was oh, so sweet and breathtaking. He wanted to bury his face in Luffy's shoulder and-
Wait, what? What am I even thinking right now? Koby froze up, and realized Luffy was still barely inches from his face. A very dignified sound came from the Navy Captains mouth, but he couldn't bring himself to pull away.
Sanji cleared his throat and kicked Luffy in the shoulder, knocking his captain backwards, and away from Koby, who wanted to drop to his knees and thank Sanji, who had most likely just unknowingly saved Koby's life because his lungs had just decided to stop working, and he wasn't sure they would've worked again at all if Luffy had moved away any later.
Koby took a breath while Sanji yelled something at Luffy about cabinets, leaning, and being an idiot. He glanced up and realized that every single one of the Strawhats had seen the whole encounter. His face burned as he saw Robin, Usopp, and Nami exchange a smile.
Not breathing didn't seem so bad anymore.
