Rick picked up his jacket and walked, with Beckett, to the elevator, talking.

"Whether there's a Santa Claus or not, that's not why I love Christmas." Kate just looked at Rick, with full curiosity and concentration on him. She followed him beside him. "When I was a kid and no matter how things got, my mother always managed to mange Christmas eve magical." They turned the corner from the desks in the bullpen and headed to the elevator. "Every year she would put on The Nutcracker Sweet and I thought if she could do that in our tiny apartment, when money was tight and we were alone, it gives me hope that things could get better." Beckett starts to smile as Rick describes his past memory as a little boy. "I love that feeling, that sense of hope." He looks at Kate and her smile quickly disappears, she doesn't want him to know she was smiling while he was talking. He pressed the down button on the wall for the elevator to come up. "It's crazy you know, on the shortest, darkest of days, people of all things celebrate the light 'cause who doesn't like presents?" He got all happy and excited, his shoulders whet up and he looked up. Kate looked up too and they both saw mistletoe. They looked at each other and staredinfo each others eyes. Full of love. They started to lean in to each other and soon enough, their lips landed on each other. Kate smiles into the kiss and she feels him smiling too. Sparks and electricity shoot through their bodies at the sensation of their lovers lips.

They both forgot where they were. They were in their own world. With just themselves and their other half with them.

I'm the background they could hear whistles, cheers and applauses. They both broke apart and turned to see all the police officers staring at them with big goofy smiles on their faces. Kate blushed with embarrassment and hid her face into Rick's chest. Rick was also blushing too.

He sees Gates with shock eyes and a glowing smile. He gulps. "Detective Beckett. Mr Castle. My office. Now!" She orders and disappears into her office. Kate looks up at him. Pure shock in her eyes.

"Oh no. Did she... did she...?" Rick nodded his head. He knew exactly what she was trying to ask. She was scared, if Gates saw then kissing in the prescient, she'll know that they are dating. And then they won't be able to work together because Castle would be kicked off the team. They both slowly walked over to Gates' office. Rick closed the door once he and Kate were in.

"Sir-" Kate started, but Gates stopped her by holding her hand in the air.

"Detective. Stop." She told her, sounding rather calm. Kate looked her. "If you think that I saw you and Mr Castle kiss in the prescient, that I won't know that your dating or have feelings for each other or that I'll kick his ass to Africa then you're wrong. Because I know that having Mr Castle around will make you a very happy detective. I know that his boyish charm can make you smile like no other. He can make you feel like the most happiest girl in the world. I know Kate. Because i can see it. When i first cam into this prescient as your captain after Montgomery and you were shot, I saw how upset Mr Castle was. And since that day, he has proved to be a loyal man and a brilliant partner. And so I won't kick his ass to Africa. But if, Mr Castle, if you break Kate's heart I won't hesitate to kick you ass to Africa and I won't re get doing so. Okay?" Kate and Rick were flabbergasted. Shell shocked is an understatement. Kate just stared at her captain.

"Yes. Umm... yes sir. Thank you." Told Rick, still pretty speechless. Gates nodded.

"Now go. Go home. Have a Christmas together. And Kate, I'm putting you on Christmas break till the second week of January." Kate's jaw dropped.

"Uhhh, th-thank y-you, sir. Merry Christmas." Kate replied. Gates smiled.

"Merry Christmas, Kate. You too, Mr Castle, Merry Christmas." Rick smiled. He and Kate walked to the door, Rick opened it and, being the gentleman he is, he let Kate go through first. Kate smiled and the two lovebirds walked to the elevator again.

-•-•-
Rick was having Christmas dinner with his mother, Martha, to his right and his daughter, Alexis, to his left.

"Hmmm," moaned Rick as he tastes he food. Martha too hmmms. "Mother, this glubed is excellent.... and everything looks excellent. Just like always." Replies Rick as he has second thoughts about his tradition with his family.

While Rick has a moment to himself at the table, Alexis and Martha share a glare. They both turn to the man-child at the table. Martha begins to talk.

"Oh Richard... Richard darling,"she places a hand on his arm. He looks up at his mother. "You don't have to look so miserable." But she knows exactly what's bothering her son...

Rick was about to deny, but Alexis beat him to it. "She's right dad, we know how much this tradition means to you, so we decided to cancel our plans.  We're here all night. Like always." Alexis too, puts a hand on his arm. Rick looks at both of the women in his life. He's shocked, but he still smiles.

"I love you both so much that you'll do that for me. But I was wrong about tonight, there's some place I need to be." He admitted. He loves spending time with his mother and daughter and he won't trade it for anything. But for this Christmas, he wants to share it with one other person more than anything else. He wants to share it with his lover, who couldn't make it to the dinner.

"Dad, I-" Alexis starts. Martha smiles. She knows. Mothers always know when their child is in love. And Rick is fairly enough in unconditionally in love with a certain lady friend.

"Go." She ordered and he smiled. "Go, go, go." She waved off with her hands. He got up and grabbed his jacket. He walked over to the door. Alexis looked over at her grandmother. Martha gestured for her too wait.

Rick opened the door and instantly came to a halt in his tracks. There standing before him was no other than Katherine Beckett. His lover. But wasn't she suppose to be a the prescient?

"I was just coming to see you." He told her.

"I was coming to see you too." She told him, smiling like a complete fool in love.

"What about your shift?" He asked the question that has started to bug his brain since he opened the door a few minutes ago.

"I got Karpowski to cover. What about your family tradition?" She looked at him, full of wonder and interest in her hazel eyes.

"Ummmm," Rick looked down at his jacket that was draped over his arm. He then looked up at Beckett. "I think was time for a new tradition." Beckett smiled at that.

"Me too." She replied simply.

"Oh for gods sakes, Richard, invite the girl in!" Martha exclaimed, breaking the love bubble around the two lovebirds and using gestures too.

Rick was surprised and looked at his mother and bank at Kate again. "Right, would you..."

"Yeah.." Beckett breathed out as she walked inside the loft.

Martha was smiling at the lovebirds, while Alezis smiled and look downwards.

Kate and Rick walked to where the Christmas tree was placed in the living room. Kate was amazed at how gorgeous it was decorated. "It's beautiful." She says as she looked at the tree.

She looked up at her lover, both having smiles plastered on their faces, but Rick having the cheekier one. They both looked lovingly at one another, until they both leaned into each other, smiles still on their faces. And kissed each other, for the second time today. They are both so happy to be able to spend Christmas with each other. Their first Christmas together.

They pulled away and rested each others forehead on the other. "Merry Christmas, " She whispered, so only he can hear her.

"I got you something," he whispered back. She pulled away from his embrace.

"What?!" She was shocked. She clearly told him 'don't get me anything.'

"Stay right here and I'll be back." He kissed her again and disappeared to his study office. He returned back a few minutes later with two boxes in his hands.

He held them out for her. She took the fairly smaller box from his grip. She opened it and gasped.

Inside the box was a beautiful diamond bracelet. She took it out of the box to examine it. The bracelet was a simple purple diamond bracelet with a few charms linked to it. She looked at the charms: coffee mugs, handcuffs, a book and ALWAYS were the four charms that indicated four different meanings.

"The coffee mugs are to share our love of coffee. The handcuffs are their because you are the finest and beautiful detective in New York City. The book is for you to know about the ruggedly handsome writer who loves you more than anything and everything and anyone in the world, apart from his mother and daughter of course. And the ALWAYS indicates our special word we use all the time." Explains Rick. Kate was crying tears of joy. The bracelet was truly stunning. She placed the bracelet on her wrist. Rick then handed the other box. Kate pick it up from him and opened it. Another gasped escaped her lips.

In the fairly bigger box was a beautiful diamond necklace. She took it out the box and examined it. It was was a simple purple diamond necklace with one charm hanging from the chain. ALWAYS. And that was it for Kate. She bursted into tears, but she managed to capture Rick's lips with hers. She kissed him with passion and love. Tears ran down her cheeks and met their connected lips. Rick kissed her tears away and continued to kiss her again, but Kate duck her head into his neck and hugged him. Rick just embraced her.

"Thank you so much Rick. These gifts are beautiful." Kate smiled up at him when she pulled away from him.

"Always." And they smiled at each other.

"But I haven't got you anything." Kate frowned. But Rick was still smiling.

" Kate, I don't want want any gifts from you. I only want your love and heart. And if that's what you'll give me, I'll be a very happy man." Kate frown turned into a smile.

"Yes Rick. You do have my love and heart. You had it from the moment I met you. It was always you." Rick was beyond the most happiest man on earth.

Kate and Rick then spend the rest of Christmas together as lovers. Because honestly, they are two lovers who took forever to start their magic roller coaster. I guess they had to build it first before they could ride it. And now it's built, their love have grown into something extraordinary.
