You may not know it Avalon but you were my everything.

-

"Avy...wake up!"

I opened my eyes to the sight of Draco pushing me around so harshly that I nearly slid off my bed.
"It's time for our first classes!" he cheered as he jumped on my bed and got ready to attack me. "Get up right now or i'm elbowing you in the gut."

"What time is it?" I grumbled as I looked over to my alarm.

"7:30. Now wake up you numbskull and get ready. I don't want to get scolded from father for letting you miss our first day."

He hurried over towards his side of the room, by the mirror in our dorm.

"Now how good do I look in this robe?" he gloated at himself as he brought up his arms and flexed his boney muscles.

"Terrible." I chuckled as I slowly sat up in bed.

"Shut up."

My brother and I shared a dorm together, and this was the only exception for boys and girls sharing a dorm because my father made Dumbledore allow it.

-

My hands were trembling and my knees felt like they were going to collapse at any moment, I was so nervous for my first classes that I felt like puking.
Draco and I got ready and left our dorm to come down to the Great hall and eat breakfast with everyone else.
It was announced by Professor Dumbledore that we would all get a personal tour around Hogwarts from a second year student.

As I was trying to find a seat at the Slytherin table, my eyes came across Tom Riddle eating alone in a corner.
I trudged over to the edge of the table where he was sitting, and sat across from him, studying his unreadable face.
"Are you alright?"

His face jolted up and his eyes met mine, shortly glancing back down and continuing to eat his food.

"What are you eating?" I questioned, trying to find a subject to talk about.

"Why do you care?" he questioned, toying around with his food. He stabbed his porridge with a fork and nearly snapped it in half.

"Well, I saw you here alone so I thought I'd come talk to you-"

"I sit alone for a reason. I don't want to be disturbed."

I started fidgeting with my fingers, and my back straightened.
"Do you want me to leave you alone?"

He hesitated for a moment before answering. "Well now that you've sat here I suppose you can stay."
He took a small bite of his cold porridge while I sat there glaring at him.

"How old are you anyway? You look like you could be a second year." I questioned as my eyes burned into his dark, coffee-colored ones.

"I'm a second year." he went on. "I'm 12.. and I suppose you're 11?"

"That's right." I answered.

He nodded, his face expressionless, and continued eating his food until Dumbledore finally announced it was time for the first years to explore around Hogwarts.

"Now I know you kids should've gotten a chance to explore Hogwarts the first day you got here. But there were some slight difficulties. Anyways.. now you all have a chance to explore! Second years, go around and pick any first year student to show them around." Dumbledore voiced.

Tom quickly glanced up at me as he chewed on his food.
"Want me to show you around?"

I grinned and nodded my head, my heart thumping out of my chest.
I was highly strung and skittish, and I wasn't sure why. This was my first time being alone with a boy, but not just any boy, a second year. Tom was strange, but maybe sometimes being strange isn't so bad.

I guess i'll have to see.

"Follow me." he voiced as he stood from the table and headed towards the huge doors, escorting me outside of the Great hall.
"What do you want to see first?" he questioned.

My eyes gazed around at the vast doors and the elevated ceilings that surrounded me. The lavish, aureate surrounding the paintings on the walls, and enormous staircases that led upwards towards more rooms of the castle.
Hogwarts was so huge, I didn't know where to start exploring first.
"Anywhere." I replied.

As I was glaring into Tom's eyes, I heard loud footsteps trudge behind me.
I knew exactly who it was.

"Draco leave us alone. What do you want?" I grunted as my eyes moved to Draco's.
He was panting, trying to catch his breath from running up to us.

"Finally I caught up. How fast do you guys walk?" he panted.

Tom's face expression stayed calm, although he seemed slightly annoyed.
Meanwhile, I was very annoyed with my brother. He always had to ruin things for me.
"Why'd you come Draco?" I groused at him.

"Cheer up, stop being so drowsy all of the time. I've decided I'll come along with you guys and Tom can show me around as well!" he smirked, knowing he was being dreadful towards me.

I rolled my eyes, making it clear for Draco to see.
"We don't want you here-"

"Sure." Tom interrupted as he half smiled towards Draco.

I started to walk away from them as Draco walked up to Tom and snickered with him.
"What was your name again? Tom? I think we'll be great friends." my brother gloated.

As they walked behind me, I couldn't help but keep my eyes glued to the talking paintings on the wall. Father always talked about how pathetic the talking people on the walls were, but I found it quite fascinating.

Tom soon noticed me looking around at the paintings and swooshed in front of me.

"I see you've noticed the paintings." he smirked. This was the first time I've seen any form of expression on his face.

I couldn't help but grin.
"They're brilliant."

"Oh please, talking paintings.. it's pretty pathetic to me." Draco sneered.

"You're just saying that because father said the same thing. You can't ever have your own opinion." I bossed.

"Shut up Avy." he growled.

Tom looked back and fourth between us, not saying a word. His face became soft, and he was soon straight faced once again.
"Follow me."

He led us around the school. Most of the way there, Draco and I were snickering about some foolish arguments, Tom not saying a word. Until finally, we've reached the end of our tour and it was time to start our first classes.

As we were walking back to class, I was walking beside Draco while Tom was in front of us.
"Draco." I whispered as I nudged him on the shoulder as we continued walking.

Draco's eyebrows raised up and his eyes squinted at mine.
"What?" he whispered back with a puzzled look in his face.

"I'm nervous.. are you not?" I questioned, my voice low and anxious.

"Nervous? Of course not." he scoffed loudly. "Hear that Tom? Avalon is nervous."

I pushed Draco furiously and walked in front of him, walking besides Tom.
Tom gazed over to me as we continued walking.
"Is that so?"

I stopped, causing Draco and Tom to stop too.
"No. I'm not nervous." I lied, attempting to sound brave in front of Tom.
I wasn't trying to impress him or anything, it was just cool hanging out with a second year. And he was a like-able person. Sort of strange... but still like-able.

"Well I'd be scared if I were you." Tom warned.

Draco choked on his own spit.
"Why would we- ahem.... she be scared?" Draco stammered trying to sound fearless. Instead he just sounded like an idiot.

"Snape is pretty 'scary' if you get on his bad side. Which of course, will never be us because we're Slytherins." Tom stated as we all continued walking through the halls.
"But trust me.. he won't hesitate to pluck you out of your seat and embarrass you in front of the whole class when you make a mistake." he added.

I gulped, as my eyes glared at Draco. Draco has his 'confident' face on but I can tell deep down he was anxious.
Finally, we arrived at our very first class, Potions with Snape.
