Commander tapped his chin as he stared at the map of the three regions they were going up against. They only had information on Rotfield, but even then it was limited. The other two regions, the Swamp and Totality Tower, were a mystery.
Ever since the incident at Rotfield, Commander refused to send any more towers out to scout areas. Commander couldn't bring himself to have those towers face the same fate as Scout.
However, that was costing him. Without any knowledge of the enemies they were going up against, they were pretty much going in blind. Commander would have to be careful with how he is going to go about this. A little mistake could lead to insane consequences for both his towers and the titans willing to fight with them.
As Commander scratched his head and stared down at the map, he was spooked as an unexpected voice sounded from behind him. "If Gravedigger was here, he would be quite the help. He knew anything and everything when it came to zombies and other enemies," Swordmaster spoke as he walked in.
Swordmaster looked down at the map and hummed, "Fallen King makes quite stunning maps, you have all your paths drawn at for you." Commander calmed down and stared down at the map. It truely was a piece of art.
"The map is a huge help, but we have no idea what is waiting for us. They're ready, but we are far from it," Commander huffed as he began to place little tower figures around the Rotfield area.
Swordmaster instantly saw the issue and began to offer his help. "You are trying to shove your entire army into the first area! That will surely spell doom!" Swordmaster lightly scolded as he began to take some of the pieces off.
Commander tried to stop him, but he was pat on the head like he was a little child. Well, the titans were much taller than him so it doesn't help.
"I've fought many battles where I've gone in blind, many others have as well. I'm sure this isn't new to you either, hm?" Swordmaster said, making Commander frown. The titan was right, this was not a first and it would not be a last.
Swordmaster began to move around some of the figures, showing Commander what he should be doing. "Rotfield is the smallest of the three regions, that means limited space. That means you should send in a small group of them to deal with minor pawns, while leaving the boss to more... 'stronger beings'."
Commander caught on to the last bit. He could send a titan or two in there, but he had to be careful with who he picked. He wouldn't want to send in Sinister or Molten Boss, the two would catch the place ablaze. He didn't want to throw Swordmaster in there either, the titan was still very much tired from his blacksmithing.
Fallen King could be usefull, Frost Spirit too. Frost Spirit could freeze the titan and Fallen King could deal the heavy blows. The duo could work well together.
"That isn't a bad idea..." Commander thought as he began to move around some figures. "I'll have some mortars and snipers up on the cliffs while I have some soldiers and scouts at the bottom filling them with bullets. I could maybe send a militant in. Then I'll come in with some minigunners and-" Commander was cut off as a hand landed on his shoulder.
He looked up, confused. Swordmaster was giving him a sorrowed look, something Commander has never seen the titan do. What was so wrong with the plan? It seemed like a pretty good one.
Swordmaster sighed and shook his head, "I feel like this is a region you should not visit. There are many commanders here that are just as capable as you." Commander went wide eyed then sneered, "I'm fine! I'm... I'm fine. Besides, I want to see that asshole for myself. I want to see him be riddled with bullet holes..."
"But will you let your emotions get the better of you and prevent you from being the leader they need?" Swordmaster asked. Commander was silent for a moment, his eye glued on the map.
The room was void of any sound except the gentle hum of the ventilation system. It almost seemed deafening with how quiet the two were.
Commander huffed, "I've been through this many times before. My towers need me... and I need this. You don't understand..." Commander's voice slightly cracked as he leaned against the table the map was resting on. His fists clenched and he was clearly trying to hold back his emotions.
Swordmaster offered a comforting hand to Commander, his thumb rubbing against the tower's shoulder. "I offer my condolences a thousand times over. I do understand your suffering, we all do. However, you need to ask yourself if you are truely in the right mindset to take this role. There is always the Swamp and the Totality Tower," Swordmaster offered.
"I know! But there have been too many things happening to just pawn it off to a different commander! Scout and Gravedigger's death, unknown territory, the hostages-" Commander started up but was quickly stopped by Swordmaster. "Hostages?" he inquired.
Commander blinked up at him. Didn't he tell them? The realization he never told anyone of this very important detail nearly had him thunking his head against the table.
"I was visited in a dream, I just know it was real! It was a lady. She told me about her brothers and herself being trapped in different regions. Two of them are in Rotfield," Commander tapped on the map. He hissed in pain as Swordmaster slapped him aside the head, "You idiot! That is serious! How could you just forget!?"
"I had a lot going on, okay!?" Commander grimaced as he rubbed the back of his head. Swordmaster groaned and began to think. He knew Void Reaver would hate the idea, but they needed someone to scout out the area, even if it's dangerous. They needed to do it now, there was only a few days until the moon was full.
Swordmaster grumbled, "Looks like Frost Spirit will have a job." Commander was about to ask what he meant, but the titan was already gone.
Commander sighed and looked at the map. A lot was at stake right now. There was kidnapped towers, revenge, and the world to save. If he messes something up, it was death or enslavement for them all. That was something he did not want. Grabbing the figures, he began to set them up.
"I respect and see you as an equal, but I am taking charge over this, including you. None of us are going out, especially him," Void Reaver growled as he followed Swordmaster around the camp. His voice was somewhat hushed, but it could still be heard through the cool night air.
The moon was at an early gibbous, the warning sign it was almost full. Swordmaster was getting Frost Spirit ready to go scout, but Void Reaver was putting a stop to it.
Molten Boss and Sinister were burning wood, making black ash. Fallen King and Nuclear King helped rub it over Frost Spirit's wings and body suit, making him blend into the sky. The ice titan would cough now and again from the ash getting into his face.
"Add another layer of ash, I don't want to see a single bit of color," Swordmaster instructed as he ignored Void Reaver. That really ticked off as he grabbed Swordmaster and spun him around, "Look what happened to Sinister! We were lucky it was Sinister, he can grow back his limbs. Frost Spirit can't! You are putting him in danger!"
Swordmaster growled and Void Reaver and instantly let go. "I know you are very worried, but Frost Spirit will be okay. If something happens, he'll make them regret it," Swordmaster wiped the spot Void Reaver grabbed him and turned to Frost Spirit as they finished rubbing him with ash.
"Your mission is to find as much as possible in Rotfield without being discovered. Try to locate two towers there as well, it's said they may be kept hostage there," Swordmaster instructed. Frost Spirit nodded.
Sinister huffed as he stomped out the embers, "You better be right about this, Swordmaster. Cause I swear if he gets hurt..." He calmed as Frost Spirit came over to bid farewell.
"I will be okay, this is very important to us! I will be back before the sun rises, do get some rest," Frost Spirit put Sinister at ease. With that, he took flight despite the hiss from Void Reaver to come back. It was just a scouting mission, this idiot should be asleep by now anyways.
Gaining more and more altitude, Frost Spirit became invisible among the night sky. It would take a good eye to spot him, Frost Spirit just hoped there was none of those awake right now.
Frost Spirit glided along the winds, the winds cold. Frost Spirit missed this kind of freedom, but he was still anxious that an arrow might fly up at him. No matter how hard he told himself that he was camouflaged, it didn't ease him all the well.
He has been flying for a while now, most likely an hour at best. The place was far, that was for sure. The towers would have quite the journey when it came time to go to battle.
However, wings were faster than wheels. Rotfield was coming up, the torches illuminating it. Frost Spirit slightly descended so he could get a better look. His eye sight was amazing, but not insane.
The place was full of long stalks of corn and wheat. It looked to be an abandoned farm, the buildings old and unkept. There was even an old rusty car that looked to have been ran off the road and into a tree. Right in the middle of corn and wheat was a scarecrow. Frost Spirit found it a bit amusing how it was suppose to scare off birds such as himself.
There was no living creatures out there, at least none that Frost Spirit could see. He could see the opening of a cave though. That was something to take account of. He knew Swordmaster told him not to engage in any confrontations, but Swordmaster should of thought about that before sending the most naturally curious titan out to go scout.
Gliding away from the field, Frost Spirit gently landed a bit away from it. That gave him room to sneak over there and towards that cave he had saw while flying above.
As Frost Spirit began to walk around the dark parts of the outer edges of Rotfield, he heard something from the barn. At first, he was about to retreat and fly away, but the sound sounded too distressing to ignore. It sounded like a whine, a human whine.
Frost Spirit looked around the field to make sure nothing was out there before he made his next move. He kept low to the ground and crept towards the barn so he could try to listen inside it.
The wood was old and rotting, so Frost Spirit didn't dare put his head against it. However, he heard what he needed to hear loud enough. It was two voices, the two talking to one another.
"I'm starving! He only gives us one ear of corn to share each day! Besides, he doesn't even give us any butter..." a voice complained. The other voice hushed them, "If he hears us complaining, he won't give us anything! We'll have to wait until rescue arrives. I'm sure our sister has found a way to contact someone."
The first voice groaned, "I sure hope they arrive soon." Then it fell quiet, neither of them speaking.
That was all Frost Spirit needed to hear. He couldn't just leave them here, they wouldn't last another day! Despite the warning bells going off in his head, Frost Spirit kept low to the ground and made his way around the barn and towards the gaping entrance.
As he entered, Frost Spirit tensed as someone loudly gasped. He looked up and saw two towers hanging in a cage dangling from the beams above. How it hasn't snapped yet astounded Frost Spirit. What caught the ice titan's attention were their eyes, they glowed against the darkness.
He put his fingers to his face and hushed them very quietly. The two instantly went quiet and still. They had no idea what this titan wanted, but it must be better than what the other guy was doing.
Frost Spirit looked around before approaching the cage. It was kept locked with a padlock of sorts, too easy for Frost Spirit.
Putting his hand against the lock, it instantly began to freeze over, making it more easy to break. The two towers didn't say a word, they instead had their eyes glued on the lock being froze. Was this the rescue that their sister sent? It certainly wasn't unwelcomed.
"Psst," one of them grabbed Frost Spirit's attention. The titan looked up as the ice kept freezing the lock. "I'm Eclipse Mortar. This is Eclipse Scout. Did our sister send you?" he asked. Frost Spirt shook his head, "No, but I believe she did send a message to one of my... friends. I'm not even suppose to be doing this..."
Their voices were hushed, afraid of attracting unwanted attention. The news both disappointed and excited the twins. They were being saved and their sister had successfully reached someone!
"Thank you..." Eclipse Mortar thanked the titan. Frost Spirit gave him a small smile before going back to freezing the lock.
As Frost Spirit focused his attention on the lock, Eclipse Scout had just so happen to look up in time to let out a loud gasp, the words getting stuck in his throat.
Out of the corner of Frost Spirit's eye, he saw something fast coming at him. The titan pushed himself away and to the floor just in time to avoid being sliced with an axe. The double sided axe spun over and back to who threw it, someone Frost Spirit was trying his best to avoid.
"Not so fast, birdie. Those two are mine," Jaxe glared from the entrance to the barn, the fresh scar on his face clear as day. He didn't look too happy about someone trying to take his hostages.
Jaxe spun his axe in his hands for a moment, his eyes burning into the titan still on the ground. "I should kill you, but if we keep on killing you idiots, there won't be any fun left! I'll just have you walk home with a bloody back," he sneered as he began to stomp forward.
Frost Spirit wasn't dumb. He got up, his height similar to Jaxe's. "You're adorable, you're also young and naive. I'm not one to make babies cry, so I'll let you go play," Frost Spirit mocked the pumpkin titan as he waved his hand and two portals opened on either side of him.
Frost Hero and Frost Necromancer rushed out from each of them and came to aid their master. Jaxe roared as he was shoved out of the barn by Frost Hero and then quickly assaulted.
The two fended him off while Frost Spirit got back to the lock. He quickly gained his lost progress and weakened the lock, the metal cracking and groaning from the strain that was put on it.
With one harsh pull, the lock snapped off and the cage was opened. Frost Spirit helped the two towers down, but they could barely stand. They were so weak, they would need help as soon as possible.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Eclipse Scout gave his thanks as he was lifted out. Frost Spirit sighed and looked around, maybe he could break out of here through the walls, they were weak.
Frost Spirit was ready to go when he heard one of his guards yell for him. He froze and his feathers ruffled. "Master-" Frost Hero tried to call out but his voice gargled and cut off. Frost Necromancer didn't call out either. That meant one thing to the ice titan.
"Real funny, but I'm someone you should think twice about messing with," Jaxe growled as he wiped the frost off his shoulder. Frost Spirit was surprised, the frost of his minions should of slowed him down.
Jaxe seemed to notice Frost Spirit's shock and grinned, "Surprised that I can handle a little chill, hm? Let's see how you can handle having your head chopped off!" Jaxe threw the axe again, the blades spinning like a propeller.
Frost Spirit grabbed the two towers and dived out of the way. Instead of flying back to Jaxe, the axe snagged an old wooden beam and cut it in half, causing the axe to go off balance and out of the barn wall.
With the support gone, part of the roof collasped, giving Frost Spirit an opening to escape.
The ice titan quickly began to try and take flight, but just as he was about to make his grand escape with the two towers, Jaxe snagged his ankle and began to hold him down.
Frost Spirit screeched and squawked as he tried to lift up, but Jaxe was preventing him from making any altitude. Looking down, Jaxe had his heels dug into the ground and both hands on one ankle. It seemed he was struggling to keep the titan from escaping with his prisoners.
"You aren't going anywhere! Just wait until I toss you in front of that prissy pants titan! She'll make you wish you were dealing with me!" Jaxe snarled as he tugged Frost Spirit down.
Frost Spirit grunted as he tried to escape the grip on his ankle, but Jaxe wasn't letting go. The ice titan would surely get tired very soon if he isn't let go.
That was not good for Eclipse Mortar. He wanted to escape, but it looks like he'll have to wait for that some other time. Right now, he had to get his brother the help he needs.
"Hey! Your shoe's untied!" Eclipse Mortar yelled down. Jaxe was confused as he looked down, he thought he didn't have any shoe laces? Maybe he forgot?
Eclipse Mortar let out a battle cry as he slipped from Frost Spirit's grasp and landed on Jaxe's face, forcing him to let go of Frost Spirit.
The ice titan instantly shot off into the sky, leaving Eclipse Mortar behind. He felt bad, but he should be okay. Besides, Frost Spirit assumed what the tower wanted. Well, Eclipse Scout clearly didn't see that as he screamed for the titan to go back and save his brother.
"We can't just leave him! Please! I'm sure we can get him!" Eclipse Scout yelled up. Frost Spirit shook his head as he propelled himself higher and higher into the sky, "We will get him, do not worry. For now, we must get you help."
Frost Spirit managed to hit a wind current during his ascend. He glided against it, taking a much need breather. He hasn't had an actual battle like in so long, it scared Frost Spirit to think what he would do when faced in that kind of situation again.
Keeping his grip tight on the one tower he managed to save, Frost Spirit began to push himself to get back to the base faster. It was important he get this tower help.
