You followed Quasimodo up the steps to a loft that was lit with candles. You both carefully laid him down on the blanketed flooring as he sighed. Esmeralda stayed with him and patched him up as he left to go see Quasimodo.

"Long time no see."

"Long time indeed," he smiled. "I'm just glad you're safe."

"You could say that again," you grinned. "How have you been lately?"

"That doesn't matter, I'm just relieved to see you again," he spoke while taking your hands into his.

Looking over to Esmeralda, you both saw with surprise that she was kissing Phoebus. You giggled quietly as Quasi chuckled. With a shy look in your eyes, you leaned closer, him following after you, and you both went to kiss until-

Djali's bleats of alarm made you two jump back from one another.

Running over to the balcony that overlooked the step of Notre Dame, you saw Frollo step out of a carriage and make his way inside.

"Frollo's coming," Quasimodo gasped. "You must leave. Quick, follow me."

Quasimodo lead everyone down another set of steps to a door that lead to the balcony. "Go down the south tower steps," he instructed. With a kiss to his cheek and a reluctant goodbye, you fled.

Flying down the tower's step, you threw open the door at the bottom and dashed out with Esmeralda hot at your heels.

"We have to go to the Court of Miracles now," she huffed.

Grabbing your hand, she led you to a cemetery right outside of town. She didn't stop until you were met with an old tombstone that had a cross on it.

"Help me move the lid."

"What? But this is a grave," you said with alarm.

"No, it's not," she assured. "It's the entrance to the Court."

Going on the same side as her, you both pushed until there was a hole big enough for the both of you to slide through. With enough effort and pushing, you were able to slide the lid back into place.

"Damn," you cursed. "I think I threw out my back. However, you were right. This definitely wasn't what I expected."

Esmeralda laughed.

"Come on," she said, pulling you along with her, "It gets better."

As you walked, skeletons that covered the walls would look at you both, nod, and then fall back into their hiding place. 'For intruders,' you thought. She led through a market looking place into a tent in the back.

"Rest," she said. "We both deserve it."

You found a spot covered in pillows and laid down, Esmeralda following soon after, and started to drift off. You would have fallen asleep if it wasn't for Djali running in and bleating out an alarm and running off.

"So much for rest," you said as you both jumped up and followed after the goat. Clopin, the man that you recognized as the jester who led the Feast of Fools, was about to drop your friends into their graves.

"Stop!" you shouted.

Esmeralda made her way to Clopin to explain the situation as you unbound your friends.

"These men aren't spies," she started. "They're our friends."

"Why didn't they say so?" he said sassily.

"We did say so!" said the now unbound prisoners.

Esmeralda continued to explain. "This is the soldier who saved the miller's family and Quasimodo helped us escape the cathedral."

Phoebus walked towards the stage and shouted to the crowd. "We came to warn you. Frollo's coming!"

This caused panic to set in the crowd.

"He says he knows where you're hiding, and he's attacking at dawn with a thousand men," he finished.

"Then let's waste no time," Esmeralda said. "We must leave immediately."

Everyone ran to gather their things. Esmeralda embraced Phoebus.

"You took a terrible risk coming here. It may not exactly show but we're grateful."

Pheobus had a smug look on his face before seeing you giving him a pointed look that said 'Are you sure it wasn't just you?'

"Don't thank me. Thank Quasimodo," he said after getting your message. "Without his help, I would have never have found my way here."

"Nor would I."

Soldiers started swarming the place, grabbing people here and there and threatened everybody with their weapons. You were huddled up with your friends as men surrounded you.

"After twenty years of searching, the Court of Miracles is mine at last." Frollo stepped forward towards Quasi. "Dear Quasimodo. I always knew you would someday be of use to me."

"No," Quasimodo gasped in denial.

"What are you talking about?" Esmeralda glowered at Frollo.

"Why, he led me right to you, my dear."

"You're a liar."

Guards tied you, Esmeralda, and Pheobus with your hands behind your backs.

"And look what else I've caught in my net. Captain Pheobus, back from the dead. Another 'miracle,' no doubt. I shall remedy that. And who is this?" He said while looking at you. "You must be the enchantress who has bewitched my Quasimodo. We'll break that spell soon enough."

Stepping into the middle of the place, Frollo addressed everyone. "There'll be a little bonfire in the square tomorrow, and you're all invited to attend." Turning to the guards holding you in place he ordered, "Lock them up."

"No, please, master!" Quasimodo gripped Frollo's robes. With a pointed look, Quasi let go with a look of defeat.

"No, no!"

"Take him back to the bell tower," Frollo ordered, "and make sure he stays there."

Quasimodo willingly followed the soldier back to the cathedral, not wanting to be bound in rope again any time soon. They shoved you, Pheobus, and Esmeralda in a metal cage attached to a cart to lead you back. When you arrived at the steps of Notre Dame, the building seemed to loom over you, casting a shadow of despair. A wooden stage with a large pike was built fairly quickly, and in no time tomorrow was upon you. It was time for the bonfire. Opening the cage were some men who roughly grabbed Esmeralda. You tried fighting them as best as you could with your arms bound, but all that gave you was a headache from headbutting someone and a bruised cheek from a guard punching you back into the cage. Even though Esmeralda knew what was going to happen, she held her head up with confidence. Drums boomed with the promise of dying souls.

"The prisoner, Esmeralda, has been found guilty of the crime of witchcraft. The sentence: death!"

The crowd was fighting against the foot soldiers, obviously in disagreement with his sentence. When the Archdeacon came out of the cathedral to intervene, he was stopped by men brandished with weapons and the promise of pain.

"The time has come gypsy," you heard. "You stand upon the brink of the abyss." He leaned closer to her and spoke in a quieter voice, one that you could not hear. It must have been something horrible since it was rewarded with him getting sput to the face.

"The gypsy, Esmeralda, has refused to recant. This evil witch has put the soul of every citizen in Paris in awful jeopardy."

"Phoebus, we've got to do something," you whispered as Frollo lit the hay under Esmeralda's feet on fire.

"We can't. We're surrounded by guards and even if we do get out we'll be stopped immediately."

"What if we had a distraction?"

"A distraction?"

A moment later the sound of cracking stone filled the air. As people gasped and pointed at the cathedral, it was enough of a misdirection for you to hank the back of a guards shirt to the metal door. Phoebus, who caught on quickly, put the guard in a chokehold. As he knocked him out, you grabbed the keys and freed yourselves. Just as you got out, Quasimodo, ever the hero, swung down, released Esmeralda from her binds, and swung back to the cathedral.

Climbing to the top, Quasi yelled out the word for Esmeralda's protection.

"Sanctuary!"

Just as orders were made to seize the cathedral, a large wooden beam fell from the building and crushed an empty metal cage.

Pheobus made his way up the metal cage you were trapped in and helped you up before making a speech.

"Citizens of Paris! Frollo has persecuted our people, ransacked our city, and now he has declared war on Notre Dame herself!"

The crowd yelled in agreement.

"Has he not done enough damage?" you said stirring the fire more. "Murdering the innocent, humiliating those under him, and imprisoning those who have done no wrong in the first place!"

"Will we allow it?" Phoebus shouted.

That seemed to enrage the crowd. They overpowered the soldiers keeping them back and freed those who were captured in the Court of Miracles. Everyone was thrust into a fighting frenzy. All was going well, especially when lava poured from the waterspouts and rained to the ground, scaring the guards off. You managed to knock a guard out with a mean blow to the crotch when someone pointed to the building and shouted, "Look! Up there!" Frollo was swinging a sword at Quasimodo, who was carrying Esmeralda, as he hopping from place to place.

"Phoebus! We've got to go!" you shouted.

"On it!" he said as he chased after you to the cathedral.

You made your way halfway up to where Esmeralda before a body flew past you to the ground with a sickening crack.

"Was that. . ." You didn't allow yourself to finish your sentence

"No, it looked like Frollo," Phoebus said astonishedly.

The amazement wore off when Esmeralda's voice was heard screaming, "No!"

Looking out and up towards the building, you saw a figure falling, one that was definitely Quasimodo. Ducking your head back you warned, "Get ready Pheobus, Quasi's gonna be joining us!"

With his arms at the ready, Pheobus managed to grab Quasimodo and pull him to safety with your help. Quasi looked at Pheobus incredulously and hugged him. Pulling back he saw you, and with a sob of pure happiness, he pulled you close and hugged you. Esmeralda ran in not long after and hugged Quasimodo as well. Phoebus even joined and made it a group hug. When you all released, Quasi took Phoebus's and Esmeralda's hands into his and clasped theirs together. Esmeralda stood on her toes and kissed Phoebus as she threw her arms around him. Looking at Quasi, who watched them in contentment, you rolled your eyes with a smile before you kneeled down, grabbed his cheek, and kissed him. His eyes went wide before closing with a love sickened sigh. Pulling apart, you smiled and gripped his hand as you made your way down to the steps of Notre Dame. Phoebus and Esmeralda made it before you, however. As they emerged from the building, the crowd waiting outside wailed in glee.

Quasimodo stopped, which made you pause abruptly in your step.

"What's wrong?"

"I- I- I can't," he stuttered.

"Why not?"

"I'm not- I'm not like them. You saw what happened at the- at the Feast of Fools," he said as he stuttered in nervousness.

You bent down to his level and cupped his face into your hands.

"Quasi," you started, "you need to listen to me. When you were fighting up there, all these townsfolk fought alongside you. They are not the same people as they were a couple of days ago. And if they do anything," you paused as you brought your face closer to his with a smile, "I'll fight them."

Quasimodo laughed. "As entertaining as it would be to watch you fight the whole town in my honor," he smiled, "I just want to spend my time with you after we walk out."

"I'd like nothing more," you smiled back.

You gently intertwine your fingers with his as you lead his out of the cathedral. The crowd silences as an uncertain look is tossed between the people. That look is broken when a little girl carefully makes her way over to the steps and in front of Quasimodo as he gingerly untangles your fingers. She curiously reaches for his face as he awkwardly stands there until he is overcome with a feeling of acceptance as she hugs him. The little girl takes one of his fingers and leads him through the crowd as Clopin loudly exclaims, "Three cheers for Quasimodo!" The crowd cheers as he gets carried away by the crowd. You sit on the steps of Notre Dame where you first met Quasimodo, watching as he gets swept away with a smile as Djali sits on your lap.
