"J-Jack, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry..." Shanna placed her palms together, looking up at the chef with her big, round, ocean blue puppy dog eyes.
"Damn right you should be sorry! You have any idea how worried I was? How dare you just throw a tantrum and run away?! The least you could have done was leave a note. But noooooo, you just ran off without a trace! We looked everywhere for you! You immature, bratty, no good, love-brain, IDIOT!!"
The redhead winced as she wiped all the spit off her face. "I'm sorry...." She knew that getting Jack's forgiveness was going to be the hardest. She was his closest friend in the crew, and he must have felt abandoned, and betrayed by her when she left without saying anything. She tugged on the edge of his sleeve. "Jack..... Jack..... I'm sorry. Please forgive me? I won't do it again."
"Again?! AGAIN?! OH YOUNG MISS DID YOU HONESTLY THINK WE'D GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO DO IT AGAIN?! YOU ARE UNDER 24 HOUR SURVEILLANCE!" Jack pointed at her.
"I second that!" Penguin raised his hand. "You're not going anywhere from now on!"
"Me too! Me too!" Bepo and the others agreed.
Shanna chuckled guiltily, and kept apologizing to her friends. After about thirty minutes of apologizing, Jack finally forgave her for supposedly abandoning him. The Heart Pirates sat around a bon fire, cooking fish and vegetables. Shanna sat on a log next to Law, and listened to the crew tell Law about what happened here on Zou before they came. Jack handed Shanna a bowl of fish soup.
"I see, so that's what happened here," Law said once Shachi was done telling them about the attack from Kaido's crew in search of a certain ninja.
"Enough about us! Captain how did you find Shanna-chan?!" Penguin asked.
Law and Shanna exchanged glances before grinning at the crew. "That's a long story," Shanna said.
"Rather than saying I found her, it's more like she found me," Law said. "She was traveling with the Straw Hats when they arrived at Punk Hazard."
"Straw Hats?! You were with the Straw Hats?!"
That was when Shanna knew it was going to be a long night. They spent the entire night sharing stories, mainly on Shanna's part. She told them about what she did after she left them, and how she met Shanks, a little bit of what she did when she was with the Red Hair Pirates, and how she decided to enter the New World with Luffy instead of Shanks.
In between stories, they had to pause because the Straw Hats arrived to greet Nekomamushi. While the Heart Pirates were excited to meet their new allies, Law didn't seem to have the patience to introduce every single one of them. While Law and Luffy were discussing, Jack pulled Shanna to the side.
"Why did you bring me all the way out here?" asked Shanna.
Jack found a nice and quiet spot, and the two were alone. He looked around to make sure no one followed them, and he asked, "You and Captain are cool now right? You really won't be leaving, right?"
Is that what he was worried about? Shanna smiled at him. "Law and I talked things out. All the misunderstanding is now solved, and we're good now. I won't go Jack. I won't ever leave you guys again," Shanna said.
Jack crossed his arms. "Good. I guess that bastard apologized."
"Speaking of that, I still need to thank you. I heard you beat the crap out of him after I left!"
"You bet I did! After what he did? He should be glad I didn't kill him!"
Shanna let out a nervous chuckle. She knew how scary he could be when he's angry. There were multiple times he threatened to stab her with his knife when she pissed him off back then. However, despite all the times she has annoyed him and angered him, she is still Jack's most precious friend, and the reason why he decided to join the Heart Pirates.
"So what now? You guys like, dating now? 'Cause I swear to god if that idiot captain didn't ask you out I will fucking stab him!" Jack rolled up his sleeve.
"We're dating! We're dating! Please don't kill him!" Shanna pleaded.
Jack halted, and said, "Oh. Well I guess he lives then."
"Hehehe~ Jack you're the best!" Shanna threw her arms around her friend.
Jack threw her off of him. "You're not any better! You know how much suffering you put him through just by leaving? You should apologize to him as well!"
"What do you mean?" Shanna asked, eyes widened. Suffering? What kind of suffering?
"You mean he didn't tell you? Well, of course he didn't tell you. That man has lots of pride after all," Jack said as he crossed his arms.
"Jack what are you talking about?" Shanna tugged the cook's sleeve desperately, her eyes pleading for answers. Jack let out a soft sigh. He then sat her down and began to tell her about the things that happened after she had left...
...
The sounds of footsteps echoed in the dark halls as a tall, tan skinned man ran down the stone pavement. He held a nodachi in his right hand and wore a spotted beanie that covered his messy black hair. The blood in his body flowed at an incredibly fast pace, and his breaths were heavy and short. Shanna... Shanna!
"Law! Help!" He could hear her calling for him. She was somewhere in these dungeons. Somewhere.... "HELP ME! AHHH!"
No! Please! Don't hurt her! Law followed the source of the voice. "Shanna! Shanna where are you?!"
"LAAWW!" The hall seemed endless. No matter how much he ran her voice just kept getting softer and softer, weaker and weaker.
He shouted, "Shanna! Shanna answer me! Shanna!" Tears brimmed the corners of his eyes as the sounds of her screams echoed all around him. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of torture, he finally arrived at the end of the hall. There was a metal door with bars for the window. He could hear her voice loud and clear behind those doors, and each sound was like a knife that stabbed him in the heart. "Shanna!" He cut the door down.
"AAAAHHHHH!" He froze at the entrance as a burning red iron pressed on her back. Smoke rose from her body as the smell of burnt flesh filled the air. Once the iron left the center of her back, a dark, red, bloody slave symbol presented itself on her bruised and tattered skin.
"GAHH!" Law shot up from his couch drenched in sweat. "Shanna! Shanna!"
The door to his office burst open. Bepo came walking in with a tray of some soup and rice balls. "Captain?"
Law's eyes darted around the room. "Shanna? Shanna where are you?!"
"Captain!" Bepo placed the tray down on the table. Law fell off the couch and landed on his bottom. Bepo ran over to the slender man to help him to his feet, only to notice his legs were shaking, barely able to stand. That's only to be expected. After all, Law hasn't eaten or slept in days.
"Shanna.... I have to find Shanna. She's hurt! She needs me! Shanna!" Law cried while trying to free himself from Bepo's grasp.
"Captain! CAPTAIN WAKE UP! THAT WAS A DREAM!" Bepo screamed. He had never seen Law like this before and it scared him. Law was always the calm, collected, cunning captain everyone looked up to. He never showed any signs of weakness, ever. Not until now.
"A dream....." Law halted, as if only just realizing where he is, he took another good look at his surroundings. "Bepo?"
"It's me Captain. It's me!" Bepo smiled in relief. A deep breath escaped Law's lips as his body collapsed into Bepo's furry arms. Legs too weak to support his own weight, all he could do was have the navigator help him sit back down onto the couch.
Law stared at the blank space, images of a certain red haired girl flashing before his eyes. "Any....news of her?" he asked.
Bepo closed his eyes and shook his head. "We checked the newspaper every day." Law buried his face in his hands, rubbing his blood shot eyes then running his hands through his messy, oily hair.
"Fuck...." He messed up. He really messed up. He didn't think she'd just leave like this. Now it's too late.
"Captain, you need to eat something. You haven't had any food in your system for the past three days," Bepo said as he pushed the tray of food towards Law.
Law gently pushed the food back to Bepo. "I'm not hungry."
"Captain, you can't go on like this. Shanna-chan is strong. I'm sure she's okay out there. Please, eat something. You'll die if you don't eat," the polar bear Mink pleaded.
Law stared at the food in a blank expression. Was she getting enough food? Has she had dinner yet? Did she bring enough money with her? Questions filled his head as he picked up a rice ball. He held it by his lips for a good two minutes, and put it back down again.
"For fuck's sake just eat!" Jack suddenly walked into the Captain's office with his arms crossed. Law's eyes widened when he saw the cook. For the past few days Jack has been purposely ignoring him, for obvious reasons. Law has also been locking himself in his room, so Jack would make food and tell others to bring it to Law; he'd never come on deliver it himself. "You think locking yourself up like this and wasting your life away will make her come back?! No! She left! She has no idea you're starving yourself for her. Fuck she probably thinks you're off with some whore doing you know what! Because guess what! That's what you fucking showed her!"
"I...."
"But you know what?! There's a whole crew waiting for you! They're waiting for you to take them to the New World like you promised! They're waiting for you to bring them to find the One Piece! And here you are, brooding over fucking woman like it's the end of the world when we haven't even been to the end of the world yet!" Jack shouted at him. "Gosh darn it Law! You really think Shanna's some weak damsel in distress that can't fucking survive out there on her own?! She doesn't need you Law! She's a grown ass woman! She saved your ass multiple times and she's more than capable on her own. Now either you eat what's on that tray or throw yourself off the ship. I'm not tolerating you wasting food again!"
...
"Wow, you really said that?" asked Shanna, eyes wide with shock.
"Yeah, I did."
"I am impressed." Shanna giggled softly, trying to joke away the pain and guilt in her chest. Her fingers curled in her palm tightly, causing her fists to tremble just so lightly. If Law missed her as much as she missed him, she could only imagine how painful it must have been. The nightmares and the worry, except unlike him, she had someone to blame, someone to hate.
The sounds of leaves ruffling interrupted their conversation. "What are you two doing out here?" Law emerged from the trees and asked the two sitting on the ground.
"Law!" Shanna wiped the tears in her eyes. "What are you doing here?! What about the Straw Hats?"
"They're partying. I didn't see you two so I came out looking for you guys. What's going on?" the captain asked.
Jack crossed his arms. "Nothing, just telling her how-"
"Never mind that! Did you say party? I wanna party!" Shanna jumped up from the ground to change the subject before Jack could tell Law what he had told her. She knew Law was a prideful man, and that he definitely didn't want her to know about the sorry state he was in after she had left. She hooked an arm around Law's. The tall handsome doctor raised a brow at her, then at the cook. "Come on!"
"Alright, alright. Let's go," Law sighed helplessly.
"Captain," Jack called out before they headed back to the others. "Treat her right this time."
"I don't need you to tell me that Jack." Law shot the cook a faint smirk. Pink dusted over the teenager's face as she glanced back at her friend with gratitude. Jack grinned at the girl.
"Now go you two! I don't wanna be a third wheel. I'll come later." He waved his hand in a shooing motion at the two. A light chuckle escaped from Shanna's lips as Law led her back into the depth of the forest.
As the music and laughter got louder and louder, Shanna's grip on Law's arm tightened. The doctor looked down at her curiously, eyes questioning why she's suddenly squeezing him so hard. "Shanna what's wrong?" he asked.
"Come with me." Shanna tugged his arm, pulling him away from the crowd. Brows raised in amusement, Law allowed her to drag him to a place covered by trees and bushes, secluded from everyone. Before he could ask her what has gotten into her, Shanna threw her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to his. Law's body stiffened at the sudden lip contact. What? Is he dreaming?
Shanna quickly pulled away, cheeks dusted in a deep shade of fuchsia. "I-....I'm here now, so... You don't have to worry about me anymore."
The Surgeon of Death lifted his hand and brushed her flustered cheeks gently with his fingers. "Did Jack tell you something?" he asked.
"No... Not really... I-" She didn't get to finish her sentence, for Law captured her lips in his. He dropped Kikoku to the ground as he held her face with both hands. "Mmm." Shanna let out a soft moan as she placed her arms around his waist. Law's thumbs gently caressed her cheeks as his tongue glided over her lower lip. She whimpered softly as he glided his tongue into her mouth, brushing it against the tip of her tongue and tackling it, asserting his absolute dominance over her. "Mmm!" She whined when she felt the oxygen getting sucked out of her lungs. "Bwah!" She gasped when she finally pushed his lips off of her own. "C-Can't breathe..."
"You idiot, use your nose," Law chuckled.
"C-Can't we just, stop?" Shanna pleaded.
"No. You started this. You finish it." Law smirked as he swooped down again. For the next few hours, he didn't let her go until she finally mastered the technique of how to breathe through the nose while wrestling tongues.
