It was a nice sunny day. The seagulls flew in the air, and the waves of the sea splashed ashore. Summer has always been short here on Swallow Island, but when summer came, the place was beautiful. A young teenage girl finished spraying the gigantic metal boat, or whatever it was. She coughed and flailed her hands around in attempt to dissipate the smell of the coating.
"Uhyooo! That looks sick!" the girl turned around to find three men and a bear staring at the large metal ship with excitement in their eyes.
"Right?! Wait till we put this bad boy in the waters! Then I'll show you what it can do!" the red haired girl said, putting her hands on her waist, puffing her chest out proudly.
"Damn Shanna-chan this is amazing!" Penguin, the one who said the ship looked sick, exclaimed.
Shanna blushed as she started laughing and twirling her feet in the ground. "Ehehehe...." She scratched the back of her head shyly and eyed a particular taller man among the three. "What do you think Law?"
"It's great. Now it just needs the jolly roger," the man named Law replied with a smirk. Speaking of the jolly roger, the smile on the others' faces faded. Noticing the strange gloom in the atmosphere, Law raised a brow. "What?"
"Law, why can't our jolly roger be a skull like everyone else? What's up with a smiley face?" Shanna asked with a big frown spread across her face. She crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks out.
"Yeah Captain, it's not nearly as intimidating as a skull," Shachi agreed.
Law ignored the complaints of his crew, and simply stared at their new ship. It wasn't very big, but it was sturdy. A ship that could also submerge below the waters and function as a submarine. He and Shanna thought of that together. "Quit complaining. We're keeping the jolly roger. That's final," he dropped his orders.
"Ehhhh?!" the rest of the crew whined, but Law paid them no attention. An amused smile played on his lips as Shanna pouted with displeasure.
"Shanna, what's the name of the ship?" Law asked.
A wide grin returned to the young teenager's lips. Spread her arms out wide, and with a loud and clear voice, she shouted, "I present you...the Polar Tang!"
...
Shanna stopped in her tracks. Hold on a moment. Smiley face. Jolly roger.... Something seemed to click right then and there. She used to think it was just an unlucky coincidence that their jolly roger ended up clashing with the Donquixote pirates, but now it didn't. She should have realized it the moment she realized Law and Doflamingo were familiar with each other.
Shanna placed her free hand on her shoulder, almost as an attempt to reach for her tattoo on her back. Was this jolly roger....perhaps purposely designed like this? As a tribute to the Donquixote pirates? Shanna's brows furrowed. No. Law hates Doflamingo. That was obvious to her. She didn't miss the hateful look in his eyes when he was talking to Doflamingo on the phone.
This brings her back to the question as to why he wants Doflamingo to quit the Seven Warlords. Sure, Doflamingo is working with Kaido, so stripping his title of the Seven Warlords weakens the strength in Kaido's faction just a little bit. However, without the world government backing him up, he still had his crew, full of countless high bounty members. So why exactly was that necessary?
With Law's personality, he shouldn't have taken these extra steps. If they never told Doflamingo that they came out of Punk Hazard alive, and discretely came to Dressrosa, discretely destroyed the SMILE factory, all would have gone according to plan wouldn't it? Law was obviously putting too much focus on Doflamingo, and now that she combined the clues together, Shanna can only infer that Law and Doflamingo had some sort of personal grudge.
"Apples! Fresh apples! Sweet and juicy!" Shanna glanced at the apple stand beside her, and let out a loud sigh. She's putting to much thought into this whole thing. She's definitely thinking too much. She walked over to the apple stand, smiling at the old man selling apples. "Hey miss, would you like some apples?"
"Wow they look really good!" Shanna exclaimed. She picked up an apple and placed it near her nose. "Smells fresh!"
"Why of course! It was just picked this morning! Would you like some? Three berries each!" The apple seller said.
"Okay, then I'll take...four!" Shanna said.
"Alright miss! Let me grab the four sweetest apple in the pile!" The man was very friendly. He started going through the piles, studying the apples, putting down those he thinks aren't good enough and finally grabbed four big, round, red apples for Shanna. "It's a great day today ain't it miss?"
"Ah, yes, it certainly is!" Shanna replied. She took the apples from the man and handed him the money. "Everyone is so lively here. It's hard to imagine that the king here just resigned from the seat of the Seven Warlords."
"Oh you must be a traveler! It seems you saw the news this morning, hahaha! But don't worry, his majesty didn't resign," the old man said with a big grin on his face.
Shanna's smile instantly disappeared. "What?!" she demanded. "He didn't?! But the news clearly said-"
"Apparently it was a mistake on the world government's part. Geez, I wonder what happened with them, publishing false news like that. Someone needs to get fired!" the man started laughing at his own joke, but Shanna didn't join in. Why? Why am I so stupid?! She dropped the apples and ran back in the direction of the Coliseum. She ignored the old man who was shouting at her about her apples, but she was in no mood for that.
They all noticed the strange peacefulness in the country, and the all too convenient appearance of the Mera Mera Fruit. It was such an obvious trap to keep Luffy busy. There's no doubt that Doflamingo already knows they're here.
Meanwhile on Greet Bit, Law, Robin, Usopp, and Caesar had finally crossed the broken bridge and arrived on the island. Law had sent Usopp and Robin out to survey the area since they found a navy ship that seemed to be fresh crashed on the island. Surely there must be marines here. Meanwhile, Law and Caesar waited for Doflamingo at the beach. There's still two minutes left until the trade off, and Doflamingo was nowhere in sight.
Pereperepere!
Suddenly, Law received a call on his transponder snail. Thinking it could be Doflamingo, or one of the Straw Hats, Law answered the call. "Law it's me!"
"Shanna? Did you find the factory?" asked Law.
"That's not important now!" Shanna shouted, sounding very desperate and worried, which caused Law to worry. "Listen carefully! You have to get out of there now!"
Law's brows furrowed, a very bad gut feeling starting to emerge in the pit of his stomach. "What are you talking about? I have to hand Caesar over soon!"
"Doflamingo didn't quit the Seven Warlords! Even if you hand Caesar over to him, there's no trade whatsoever!"
The Heart Pirate Captain's eyes widened. "That doesn't make sense...." he uttered, but everything he saw in the city started to make sense to him. Why everyone was just going about their day as normal, why there was no panic whatsoever. But he still couldn't comprehend everything very well, because the news paper this morning clearly said he resigned. "What do you mean?"
"We've been totally deceived! Luffy is trapped inside the Corida Coliseum! You have to get out of there now!" Shanna screamed.
Too late. Doflamingo was already on his way, as well as Admiral Fujitora. "Shanna, just keep searching for the factory. Understand?" Law spoke to the transponder snail, sounding as calm and collected as possible.
"Aye aye, Captain. Stay safe."
Law let out a soft chuckle. It felt like they were back to the way they were two years ago, fighting side by side, trusting their backs with each other, but now was not the time to reminisce.
The transponder snail hung up on Law's side. "Law! Law?!" Shanna shouted at the transponder snail.
"Shanna-chan, there you are!" Franky's voice catches her attention. "Come on! We got clues about the factory!"
Shanna stuffed the transponder back in her blazer's pocket and hopped onto Franky's shoulder. His legs turned into wheels and he carried Shanna and a strange toy soldier down the streets of Dressrosa. On the way, the toy soldier explained their plan and where they were going. Shanna told Franky about what might be happening at Green Bit. On the way, he explained to them the truth about the toys.
"Looks like there's quite a dark side to this country," Franky commented.
"Soldier-san. Do you know anything about Doflamingo before he came to this country? What he did, where he came from?" Shanna asked.
"Unfortunately I'm not very familiar. All I know is that he came from the North Blue."
North Blue. Now Shanna was even more positive that there's something between him and Law.
Shanna didn't have time to think too much, for they quickly arrived at the Flower Hill, where they met the dwarves of the Tontatta Kingdom. There, they met up with Usopp and Robin. Together, they listened to the story of the Tontatta Kingdom and the history of Dressrosa.
After the story was over, while the dwarves and Franky were crying pver the tragic story, Robin was the only one who noticed the uneasiness on Shanna's face. "Shanna-chan, are you okay? You've been spacing out quite a bit," Robin asked. The thirty year old woman placed a hand on the 18 year old's shoulder. Shanna looked up at Robin.
"I just..... I'm a little worried about Law," Shanna admitted. There was an unsettling feeling in her stomach.
Robin's eyes softened. "I noticed that there's still some tension between the two of you when we left the Sunny. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine! I'm fine...." Shanna squeezed her hands together. Robin, Usopp, and Law went to Green Bit together, but Rovin and Usopp were taken underground by the Tontattas, leaving Law on his own with Caesar. From what Robin described, it seems that Law and Doflamingo must have broke into a fight. Law.... Please be okay.....
After learning about the past of this nation, the tragic truth as to how Doflamingo claimed the country ten years ago, the Straw Hats sat down and did a group call with Sanji's group on the Sunny, and Luffy at the Coliseum. Franky told Luffy about what they learned here, Franky said, "Luffy, I'll do anything you tell me to do, but this country that we thought was amazing actually has a really dark side! Trying to stand against an overwhelming enemy, these brave little soldiers...I don't want them to throw away their lives!"
"Franky! You're free to go wild. We'll be right there!" Luffy shouted.
"Wow! You're the man!" Franky exclaimed.
Suddenly there was some weird sound coming from the transponder snail. "Hey, what's that sound?" Shanna asked. Right after she asked there was a gigantic explosion sound coming from the other end.
"Luffy?! Sanji?!" they shouted.
"It's not on our end!" Sanji said.
"What the-" they heard Luffy's voice in the transponder snail.
"Oi!" Zoro shouted.
"TRA-GUY!" Luffy shouted. Shanna's eyes widened. No..... That unsettling feeling got stronger as she listened.
"Doflamingo!" It was Zoro's voice.
"Oi Tra-guy! Why are you with Mingo?"
Then Shanna heard Doflamingo's voice. "You little shit... Thinking you had a chance against me."
BANG! BANG! BANG!
"TRA-GUY!!"
"LAW!" Shanna screamed as she stood up. She felt all the hairs on her body stand up. There was a ringing sound in her ear, and it was as if she could see Law laying on the ground, covered in blood, lifeless. Robin grabbed Shanna by the wrist, knowing that if she didn't Shanna would probably run straight to the Coliseum.
"H-Hey what's with the shots and that explosion?! What happened to Law?!" Usopp demanded.
"What happened there!?" Sanji asked as well.
"Law! Law! Answer me Law!" Shanna shouted at the transponder snail. Tears welled up in her eyes as the worst case scenario started playing in her mind. No..... He's okay right?! He has to be okay! He can't die! "Law please!"
There was a low chuckling sound, and Doflamingo's voice came out of the transponder again, "Sorry for the disturbance, citizens. This warlord, Trafalgar Law, is the one responsible for the throne abandon hoax this morning. Despite that he tried to pull me from the throne, nobody has to worry, all problems have been solved!"
"HEY MINGO! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO LAW?!"
"What happened to Law?! Someone tell me!" Shanna begged, tears pouring out of her eyes like waterfall.
"Law-dono has been seriously injured by that evil guy, Doflamingo!!" Kinemon shouted.
"I have to go..... I need to go help him!" Shanna shook Robin's hand off of her, and stepped back from the transponder snail. She breathed heavily, sweat and tears rolling down her cheeks in a salty mix.
"Shanna-chan calm down!" Robin stood up as well.
"How can I calm down?! Didn't you hear?! Law's severely injured!" Shanna shouted.
"AAAHHH! This is Kinemon! The enemy has taken Law-dono!"
Before Shanna could run out of the base, Robin tackled her down. "Calm down Shanna-chan. I know you're worried but you can't go out there now! We'll rescue Law, but if you go out there now, you'll only be surrounded by marines and Doflamingo's men!"
Shanna shut her eyes. She already couldn't hear whatever was going on between Sanji and Luffy in the transponder snail. Her mind was on Law and Law only. Is he okay? Is he alive? How badly injured is he?!
Just as she was thinking about Law, Luffy's voice snapped her out of her thoughts, "We'll get Law back. Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Brook, Momo, you sail to Zou first!"
"Then we will go first!" Sanji said.
"Leave the sabotage mission to us!" Franky exclaimed.
"Everyone stay safe! We will go to the palace, and kick Doflamingo's ass!"
