The episode begins with the Aether family looking through the house, searching for clues as to what has happened, and how they may fix things

As Lillie is checking through Mohn's drawers, she finds some old clothes, torn up with holes in them and everything. She even finds a broken symbol of the Aether family on it

"What on earth happened during that accident...?", Lillie questioned to herself, as she proceeded to keep looking

We then see 'Lillie', the ultra beast, floating near Lillie. Lillie catches it in a mirror she picks up, but when she looks, the ultra beast isn't there. After proceeding with this numerous times, the ultra beast begins to charge up some kind of purple blast

Before it could fire, Pikachu jumps through the window and fends it off with iron tail, surprising Lillie

"Pikachu!", Lillie says, shock by what has happened, "Thanks for saving me."

Pikachu nods and cuddles her. Ash then jumps in through the window

"Lillie, are you ok?", Ash asks

"Yeah, I'm fine.", Lillie replies, "Pikachu saved me!"

"That's good to hear", Ash replies back, with a small blush present on his face, "now come on, you and the others need to come outside real quick"

Lillie is confused by this, but nods in agreement. The two then assemble the rest of the family and Chloe, and Ash walks them through the woods. They then meet up with someone ahead... it's Goh! Although he seems pretty lightheaded

"Firstly, everyone meet Goh!", Ash says, pointing to his lightheaded friend, "He's a really good friend of mine!"

"Hey everyone!", Goh says, though is slightly nervous when he looks at Gladion, giving off a look of high unease

"Goh!", Chloe says, as she runs up to him, "How was your Project Mew thing?"

"It went good", Goh said, "I can't wait to tell you all about it later!"

"Uh, Ash...", Gladion questions, "what are we doing? How is walking through the woods going to help us get father back?"

"Patience, young friend...", a mysterious voice echos in everyone's heads, "all shall be explained momentarily..."

Everyone is shook by this

"Oh no, not this again!", Goh says out loud, further startling everyone. But Ash tells them all to calm down as he's about to explain

"Second...", Ash says, as he points to something behind him, "there's someone else I need you all to meet!"

As everyone looks in the direction Ash is pointing, they see something ahead

It's a Pokémon! One with some kind of bulb in his head, seemingly held on in a way that makes it look like some kind of crown. It has a small, slender white body and light blue eyes and aura

Lillie and Chloe are confused, but also slightly intrigued as to what they are looking at, while Lusamine and especially Gladion look skeptical of this

"Ash", Chloe asks, "what is this?"

"This is the King of the Harvest", Ash explains, "and he's here to help!"

Goh and Chloe are surprised by this, while the Aether family remain confused

"How is this... king of the harvest, going to help us?", Lusamine asks

"Well you see...", Ash begins to explain, although he does a poor job explaining everything. Nobody could really tell exactly what he was talking about, and Gladion was starting to think this was getting enough

Eventually, the King of the Harvest floats over Ash and in an instant, Ash stops talking and looks down

Everyone steps back, slightly startled by what has happened

"A-Ash???", Lillie says, visibly distressed by what may have happened to Ash

There comes a pause for a moment, until... 'Ash' finally speaks up

"Hello, everyone", 'Ash' says, in a voice that appears merged with another, "my name is Calyrex, the King of the Harvest, and I believe that I may be able to help you."

Lillie is even further startled by this, concerned for her Ash's wellbeing, while Lusamine stand in front of the rest of the children

"What did you do to Ash!", Gladion asks, in a hostile tone

"Calm down everyone", Goh says, "it did this to me too, it's just possessing him so it can speak to us!"

Everyone looks at Goh, confused as to why he just said that as if it's not the craziest thing they've heard all year

"Look, I'm not a fan of it either, but we should hear it out.", Goh replies

"Thank you... Goh", Calyrex says, through Ash's voice, "Like I was saying..."

"My name is Calyrex, the King of the Harvest", Calyrex continues, "and I want to help you restore his memory."

"Why?", Lillie asks, "What interesting could you possibly have in helping us?"

"Because, dear friend...", Calyrex says, "during ancient days, my duty to this land was more than simply to be a 'King of the Harvest'..."

"My duty to this land was to bring order and balance, to ensure all was in peace...", Calyrex continues, "however, during those ancient days, I lost hold of much of my great power, and am now unable to fulfill my duty. The most I can do is help the crops grow every once a year, anything else..."

"You... cannot do?", Lillie finishes

"Exactly...", Calyrex replies, "as such, I have wanted to restore his memory and bring balance back to his being..."

"So, you're not powerful enough to defeat the Ultra Beast?", Gladion asks, "Well you can leave that to us!"

"No", Calyrex says to him, "the 'Ultra Beast' is not the issue at all..."

Everyone is surprised by this

"What... do you mean?", Lusamine asks, on behalf of everyone

"What I mean is... I was there the day your father first arrived", Calyrex explains, "I found your father, carried through a mysterious portal by the mysterious creature you call an 'Ultra Beast'"

"Your father was bruised and battered and was beginning to fade away", Calyrex continues, "I asked what was going on, and the 'Ultra Beast' explained that when this mysterious man came through the portal, many of its kind fought over who may merge with it and gain insight on another species."

"The Ultra Beast, or 'Lillie' as it wished to be called, gained his insight and learned of family, love, joy, and other concepts from this plain...", Calyrex continues, "when it used its power to escape its home world, it fled to where it may insure this man may never be hurt again."

Everyone stands there, surprised by this revelation and unsure what to believe of this Ultra Beast

"But... how can you believe it?", Gladion asks, "How do we know 'Lillie' wasn't lying?"

"Because...", Calyrex replies, "while I may not have much of my power left, I can still sense someone's mind and see if they are telling the truth. When 'Lillie' explained all of this to me, I knew it was telling the truth."

"Your father's mind was damaged from the battle", Calyrex explained, "I tried to restore his memory, but the most I could do was allow him to wake up... and recommend a nearby town to take him to for help."

"I am unsure why it took the form and name of... well... you", Calyrex says, while looking to Lillie, "but believe me when I say that among the strange, odd creatures who lurk in this land, 'Lillie' is far from the worst of them..."

Everyone is still confused, unsure what to believe, but ultimately decide to go along with it

"So... how do we restore your power?", Goh asks

"In order to restore my power, I need two Pokémon", Calyrex explains, "Glastrier and Spectrier, my two glorious steeds who once gave me the power I needed to maintain balance. One day, they had shook me off, but if I can gain their power once again..."

"Then you'll have the power you need to restore father!", Lillie continues, with optimism present in her voice. "and to restore balance to the Crown Tundra!", Chloe finishes

"Exactly!", Calyrex replies, "Now, if we are all in agreement... let's get started."

Calyrex then releases Ash from his grip, making him extremely dizzy. Everyone runs up to Ash, making sure that he is alright, but Ash ultimately shakes his head and stands tall

"So, did he explain everything that he explained to me?", Ash asked

Everyone nods, including Calyrex

"Good!", Ash continues, "Lusamine, you stay here and see what you can do for Mohn, the rest of us are going horse hunting!"

Everyone nods in agreement. Lusamine heads for the house, with Zoroark following just in case, while everyone follows Ash and Calyrex to catch themselves some horses

The gang are now walking through the woods, ready to do whatever it takes to find these steeds

"So... Ash", Lillie asks, "what's the plan exactly?"

"Well you see-", before Ash could finish, Calyrex possesses him again, momentarily startling Lillie

"Lillie and Chloe, you two will go into town and talk to the major about creating something called 'the Reins of Unity'", Calyrex says, "it's an item that I need..."

"What's a 'Rein of Unity'?", Chloe asks

"They are the reins I once used to keep my steeds under control", Calyrex explains, "without them, I will be unable to control their great power."

"Meanwhile, the rest of you will go out and attempt to catch Glastrier.", Calyrex continues, "It only roams during the day, meaning you will not have much luck tracking it down in the night..."

Calyrex then released Ash, where he is caught by Lillie

"Is possessing people good for their health?", Lillie asks, with a hint of anger in her tone

"Don't worry, I'm doing just fine!", Ash says in response, very clearly lightheaded and dizzy

"Alright!", Gladion says, "Lillie, Chloe, you two get to work on those reins. Ash and Goh, you're with me, we're catching this thing!"

Everyone nods in agreement, as the boys head in search of Glastrier while the girls and Calyrex head for the major's town

Ash and Gladion both send out their Lucario's

"Wow, you both have Lucario's!", Goh comments, "That's really cool!"

"I'll say", Gladion replies, in reaction to this pleasant surprise, "why didn't you tell us you had a Lucario too?"

"I guess I just didn't have the time", Ash replies, with a goofy blush and a slight giggle, "now let's go catch a Glastrier!"

Goh and Gladion give a nod of agreement, and they head out

The boys proceed on their search, with the two Lucario's scouting ahead, using their auras to sense anything distinct, until Gladion's Lucario senses something nearby. It clears away some leaves, and it makes a surprised look

The boys continue to look around, with Ash checking in with his Lucario to confirm it found nothing. Gladion then senses something, as if he's receiving some kind of sensation in his head

"Guys, I think my Lucario found it!", Gladion tells them

"That's great!", Ash replies

"But wait", Goh interjects, "where is your Luca-"

Before Goh could finish, they all hear a nearby explosion, with Ash hearing very familiar sound, "NAAAAYYYYYYHAHAY"

"It's that sound again!", Ash says aloud

"Let's move!", Gladion says, before charging in the direction of the explosion

Goh gives Ash a moment, before the two ultimately follow Gladion's lead and start running

The moment the boys get to the area, they see Gladion's Lucario flying back and landing on its feet

"Lucario, are you ok?", Gladion asks, before being interrupted by nearby pouncing

It's a big horse that looks like it's made of icicles. It stomped around and shook the area, and let out a cry that Ash immediately recognized

"Wait a minute", Ash says, "that's the sound I heard before that avalanche yesterday!"

Gladion and Goh are surprised to hear this, but then look back at their opponent

"Then that means we have another reason to catch this Pokémon!", Gladion replies, "Lucario, use aura sphere!"

Gladion's Lucario then uses aura sphere, which Glastrier counters with high horsepower. Glastrier then uses Icicle Crash. Ash tells his Lucario to counter it with aura sphere, but Gladion's Lucario gets in the way attempting to break through them with Thunder punch, causing it to take both attacks

"Watch where you're going!", Gladion says, visibly upset at Ash

"Sorry!", Ash replies

Ash then has Lucario surround Glastrier with double team, and readies aura spheres, but Glastrier stomps on the ground so hard it sends snow flying everywhere, nullifying the double teams. Lucario then jumps over the snow and throws its aura sphere at Glastrier, damaging it

Glastrier attempts to attack Ash's Lucario with high horsepower, but Gladion's Lucario knocks it from the side with Blaze kick. Gladion's Lucario then lands multiple thunder punches, but is then hit with high horsepower

Ash's Lucario jumps onto Glastrier, and is instructed by Ash to land a point blink steel beam. However, Glastrier shakes Lucario off, and steel beam collides with high horsepower. Glastrier is sent back, but Ash's Lucario is heavily damaged

"Now's our chance!", Gladion says, "Lucario, Blaze kick!"

Gladion's Lucario then charges at Glastrier with a readied Blaze kick, but this collides with high horsepower. Glastrier begins to run away

"Oh no you don't!", Goh says, as he grabs a Pokéball

"Zapdos, use thunderous kick!", the moment Goh says the word 'Zapdos', both Ash and Gladion are in immense shock, as they see the dark orange legendary bird come out

Zapdos then uses thunderous kick, but Glastrier uses iron defense, weakening the attack, though still sending it back. Goh then commands a Zap Cannon, which Glastrier counters with icicle crash

Gladion then instructs his Lucario to use aura sphere, but Glastrier knocks it right back with high horsepower, sending it at Zapdos' direction. Glastrier then uses icicle crash on Zapdos, but Zapdos dodges this. Ash has his Lucario hit Glastrier from behind with Aura Sphere. Ash's Lucario then attempts to land a reversal, but in that moment, Glastrier moves out of the way, and Lucario sees Zapdos' thunderous kick heading straight for it. It was in that moment did the two moves hit the opposing Pokémon, heavily damaging both Lucario and Zapdos

"No!!!", Gladion yells out of pure frustration, as Glastrier ultimately gets away

Ash then puts his hand on Gladion's shoulder

"Don't give up", Ash tells him, "we'll get another shot at Glastrier, and we won't let it get away next time!"

"Yeah!", Goh says, "One setback isn't going to keep us back forever!"

Gladion looks at the two of them, and he ultimately smiles

"Thanks guys", Gladion tells them, "I really appreciate the help!"

The boys then get back up, as they continue their search for Glastrier

We then cut to the girls, who have arrived at the mayor's household. The mayor welcomes them inside

"Hello, young travelers", the mayors asks, "what may I help you two with?"

"Well...", Lillie begins. "We were wondering about these things called the reins of unity.", Chloe finishes

"Ah yes, the legendary reins of unity", the major responds, "they were once used to aid the might King of the Harvest in ancient days. Why do you need that?"

"It's the only way for me to get my father back", Lillie replies, with a hint of desperation in her voice, "please, I'll do anything for it!"

"Settle down kid!", the mayor replies, slightly embarrassed by her sudden reaction, "If it's that important, I'll let you use it, but..."

He then pulls out the reins of unity, however they are all worn out and busted and they hardly seem put together

"The battle that separated our king's power made these extremely worn down...", the mayor continues

Lillie looks at the reins of unity, and she appears saddened by their busted, battered up state. But Chloe gives them a look of determination

"Well, is there any way we can repair them?, Chloe asks, "What were these things originally made of?"

"These reins were originally made from a tuft of white mane hair, black mane hair, and a radiant petal" the mayor replies, "you can use our local farm's resources if you'd like!"

"T-thank you mister mayor!", Lillie tells him, as she grabs the reins of unity and heads to the farm with Chloe

The girls get to the farm, where they meet the farmer. They explain that they are trying to recreate the reins of unity, and the farmer agrees to let them do so by sheering her Wooloo and using her other farm supplies that may help create such reins. The girls thank the farmer

"Heh, kids...", the farmer says to herself, as if she doesn't believe they are actually going to recreate the legendary item the ancient King of the Harvest once used

Lillie and Chloe walked into the field of the farm, where they found a lot of Wooloo, of colors both black and white

"Alright", Lillie says, "if we can collect enough of this Wooloo tuft, we can begin recreating the reins of unity!"

The two begin to walk near the Wooloo, but Chloe takes a concerning look at Lillie

"Lillie...", Chloe asks, "are you doing well?"

"Why...why do you ask?", Lillie asks, confused by this question

"I know I don't know you very well", Chloe replies, "but you seem... distracted. Is something bothering you?"

Lillie looks down and thinks for a moment, before she finally decides to tell Chloe about it

"The thing is...", Lillie replies, "my quest to get my father back isn't the only thing I'm struggling with."

Lillie then grabs a Pokéball from her pocket, and sends out Absol, who immediately lets out a yawn and curls up in the snow. This surprises Chloe

"It's...", Chloe says, "it's really pretty!"

"Yeah, but...", Lillie says, as she pulls something out of her pocket. It's her mega key stone!

"Brother wasn't the only one who was offered the ability to master mega evolution", Lillie continues, "when I caught Absol on an island of Pokémon who could mega evolve, I hoped to master that power and use it myself"

"But no matter what I do, it just doesn't want to listen to me, much less Mega Evolve!", Lillie says, as she watches her Absol look away from her, further saddening her, "Am... am I doing something wrong?"

"I'm... sorry Lillie", Chloe replies, "I'm sure Absol will warm up to you eventually!"

"But what if I'm not strong enough to do something?", Lillie replies, in a slightly pedantic and louder tone than seen previously, "What if I need to win a battle, but I'm not strong enough to do it? What if..."

Lillie begins to get onto her knees, feeling defeated

"What if...", Lillie continues, in a much more quiet and saddened tone, "what if I'm not strong enough to save father?"!

Chloe looks at Lillie and feels bad for her. She then kneels down and puts her hand on Lillie's shoulder

"Lillie...", Chloe tells her, "I'm not really sure what I can do to help you with Absol, I'm not much of a 'Pokémon trainer' compared to Ash or Goh..."

"But believe me, I know what it's like to feel uncertain about yourself", Chloe continues, "and the important thing to remember is that you don't have to have it all figured out at once!"

"The best thing you can do right now is take this at your own pace, both the stuff with Absol and your father", Chloe continues, "you don't want to overthink it!"

Lillie thinks about what Chloe said, and then puts on a soft smile and a look of relief

"Thank you Chloe...", Lillie says, "you're right, I'll try and take things one step at a time!"

Chloe helps Lillie up, and they take another look at the Wooloo

"Do... we even know how to collect tufts of Wooloo hair?", Lillie asks
