The episode opens with two people walking through the snowy plain, it's Asahi and Goh!
"Are we there yet?", Goh asks, evidently tired of the snow
"Almost!", Asahi replies, "You'll know when we're there!"
They travel further, until they finally arrive at an area... without much snow, surprisingly. In fact, it is actually quite grassy with life just going about
"Wow...", Goh says at awe
"Yup", Asahi replied, "'wow...'"
Asahi then leads the direction, as she and Goh head out further into this grass area. They keep traveling until they see a big tree with huge apples
"Holy cow!", Goh said, evidently surprised, "Those are some big apples!"
"Yeah, that's how we know we're in the right area!", Asahi says to him, "We've gotta find a place near the tree, but not to close nor within range of potential... destructive paths...", she continues anonymously
Goh, after having caught that anonymous tone, is somewhat worried
"Asahi...", Goh asks her, "what exactly are we out here to do?"
"There are some very powerful Pokémon in the area we are searching for", Asahi tells him, "This mission is essentially a test of our strength, o ur resilience, our resourcefulness, and our determination, as these Pokémon are not only extremely powerful, but also very illusive."
"I'll tell you more later", Asahi says, "right now we need to set up camp and wait for the others to get here."
Goh nods, and then looks around for a good place to camp. He then spots an area nearby the water. Goh suggests to camp there, and Asahi agrees to this
Later, after Goh and Asahi had successfully set up camp, Goh is on the phone with Chloe
"Hey Chloe", Goh asks, "how's the search for this 'King of the Harvest' Pokémon going?"
"Well...", Chloe replies, "we're not really on that right now."
"What do you mean?", Goh asks
"See, we ran into some old friends of Ash's.", Chloe explains, "They're on a mission to find someone in their family, and Ash and I agreed to help them, as they believe they are close!"
"Wow, really?", Goh replies, "That's really nice of you to do!"
"Thanks!", Chloe says, with a light blush, "But it's really Ash who is the nice one here."
"Between you and me, he really wants to help these guys!", Chloe whispers over the phone
"What do you mean?", Goh asks
"Well-", Chloe says, before being cut off. It sounded like the voice of a woman, warning them about something. Goh couldn't tell what she was saying... something about a mountain, perhaps?
"Sorry, gotta go", Chloe tells him quietly, "good luck on your mission!"
Chloe hangs up. Goh is slightly sad, but quickly gets over it
"Hey Goh!", Asahi says, "The others are here!"
Goh comes out to meet the others, finding himself met with Gary and a red haired person named Quillon
"So", Gary says, in a mocking tone, "you're the surprise guest of the hour, aren't you little buddy?"
"I'm not little!", Goh responds, with a slightly higher pitched and angry voice
"Yeah yeah, I know", Gary replies, "just don't scare off our targets with the pitch of your voice."
Everyone starts giggling a bit after Gary said that
Goh, like usual, is not a fan of Gary egging him on. He understands he was like this with Ash, but that doesn't mean he likes it
"Now now everyone", Asahi says, "we have a mission now let's get it done!"
"Without team imbalance, preferably.", she continues, sharply directed at Gary, causing him to nod and lock in
"Now team, let's get into this!", Asahi tells everyone, as she pulls out a trans-communicator, playing a message from the professor
"Greetings, members of Project Mew!", says Professor Amaranth, an old man and the leader of Project Mew, "Today we have a mission to test your resilience and skills as members of this team."
The professor then pulls up an image on three Pokémon, all seeming to be birds of some kind. One of them looks like a living nightmare, another looks like a Tamato berry with the color of a Golden Razz berry, and the final one looks... like a challenge
"Now", the Professor asks, "are any of you familiar with the legendary birds of the Kanto region?"
Goh raises his hand, but Gary speaks up and says "Yeah. Me, Ash, and Goh battled two of them, one time we even got one of their feathers!"
"I didn't know we didn't have to raise hands...", Goh thinks to himself, looking slightly salty about it
"A-and I battled Zapdos on my own before!", Goh says, surprising everyone
"You did?", Gary asked. "Yeah... did you?", Quillon asked, seemingly not buying what Goh was saying
"Y-yeah!", Goh answers, "One time, there was this power plant, and me and Raboot battled against Zapdos while Ash held off Team Rocket-"
"Ok, that's enough", Asahi tells him, "message received!"
"Excellent", the Professor replies to Gary, "because this time, your mission is to collect physical data of these forms of the legendary birds!"
"'These forms'?", Quillon asked
"Yes", the Professor replied, "in a typical environment, the legendary birds of the Kanto region look as some of you have seen them... Goh",
Goh jumps slightly, confused on why the professor said his name explicitly, but then puts two and two together and realizes that he is the only one here who's seen all three
"However, in Galar, these Pokémon look very different", the Professor tells them, "In this region, Moltres is considered the Pokémon of Malevolence, Articuno the Pokémon of Cruelty, and Zapdos... the one with Strong Legs."
"Huh, guess Zapdos is the odd one out here...", Goh thought to himself
"Here is your mission", the Professor tells them, "set out and capture physical data of these Pokémon! Either a feather or a full Pokémon capture will do the trick!"
"Wait, you want us to catch these Pokémon?", Quillon asks
"If that is the method of which you please...", the Professor replies, "Now go! Set out and find these Pokémon!"
The call ends, and the crew begin their search. Quillon and Gary head in one direction, while Goh and Asahi head in the other
Goh is looking about, until he sees Asahi on the ground near some bushes
"Uh... Asahi?", Goh asks, "What're you doing?"
However, Goh then sees her grabbing berries, and beginning to mesh them
"I'm trying something new.", Asahi replies, "I heard legends of a method of calming down powerful Pokémon in an ancient region."
"Essentially, you find the Pokémon's favorite meal, grind it up, and then turn it into a sort of 'balm' and it'll make the Pokémon less aggressive!", Asahi continues, "I figured maybe if I figured out how to do this, then maybe when the day comes to face Mew, I'll be even more ready!"
"Wow...", Goh replies, "that's really cool! And resourceful!"
"Thanks!", Asahi replies, "You want me to show you how to do this yourself?"
"Y-yeah!", Goh says enthusiastically
Asahi then teaches Goh how to make these 'balms', and he considers him "balm-smith certified", causing Goh to blush in flattery. Goh then begins to question something
"Hey Asahi...", Goh says, "do these have to be made from the Pokémon's favorite dish? I mean, we don't even know what the favorite meal of these birds is."
Asahi thinks to himself for a moment, but then replies with "Well... do you have a better idea?"
"I mean...", Goh says, while looking around, evidently grasping at straws, until he sees a bush of berries near him, "maybe... we make balms out of food that every Pokémon likes!"
Asahi is confused, but hears Goh out
"Back at the lab, Professor Cerise sometimes talks about how certain berries will appeal to just about any Pokémon you meet", Goh say, while walking towards the bush with other berries, "so maybe, the legendary birds will like these too!"
Asahi thinks to herself for a moment, but ultimately agrees to this
Before they could complete their set of balms, however, they hear a massive sound, almost as if a strike of lightning had landed somewhere
"Lightning, on this sunny day???", Goh questions
"It has to be one of the birds!", Asahi says
The two move toward the sound of the sound, but when they got to the area, all they saw were Quillon and Gary knocked out. After waking them up, they question them on what happened
"I... I don't know!", Quillon said, "I was just looking around, and then out of nowhere..."
"Something attacked us", Gary finishes, "something fast and dangerous!"
"This Pokémon must be aggressive", Asahi concludes, "from now on, we all stick together!"
The crew agree to this, as they look around and find foot prints, almost resembling that of a giant bird Pokémon
"These must belong to one of the legendary birds", Asahi concludes
"Then what are we waiting for?," Gary says, "Let's catch ourselves a legendary bird!"
Before Gary can proceed to follow the tracks, however, Goh notices a change in the wind breeze, as if something was moving around them... very fast
"Gary, look out!", Goh says, tackling Gary
And before anyone knew it, something strikes the spot Gary was just at
After getting back up, they see that this Pokémon is none other than Galarian Zapdos!
"It's... it's Zapdos!", Goh says
"So that's the Pokémon who's been doing all of this!", Quillon says, seemingly frustrated with what it did to him earlier
"Let's catch it now!", Asahi tells them, as she throws her Pokéball and sends out her Urshifu and commands a Surging Strikes
However, Zapdos dodges this entirely, and retaliates with a Brave Bird, sending her Urshifu flying far back
"Electivire, Thunderbolt!", Gary commands, as he sends out his Electivire
This connects, however Zapdos gets enraged and jumps high into the air
"Cinderace, Pyro Ball!", Goh commands, while Gary has Electivire use Thunderbolt again
However, Zapdos uses detect to dodge both attacks, and uses the momentum to land a Thunderous Kick on Electivire, followed with another Thunderous Kick on Cinderace
Zapdos begins to land another Thunderous Kick, this time on the gang again, however...
"Scizor, quick guard!", Quillon commands, as he sends out his Scizor, blocking the attack
"Electivire, use Thunde-" before Gary could finish, Goh interrupts with "Cinderace, Blaze Kick!"
Blaze kick lands, but Zapdos uses Zap Cannon, sending Cinderace away and paralyzing it
"It's vulnerable, now's our chance!", Asahi says, "Urshifu, Thunder Punch!"
"Scizor, night slash!", Quillon commands. "Electivire, Thunder Punch!", Gary commands
All of the attacks land, damaging Zapdos
Goh the attempts to use his Pokéball, but Zapdos just breaks it and Thunderous Punch's the ground, causing everyone to stumble
Zapdos then begins to flee the area, but Goh has other plans
"Cinderace, use Pyro Ball!", Goh commands
Cinderace readies its Pyro Ball, and sends it at Zapdos. To everyone's surprise, it actually connects and causes Zapdos to stumble. Although it still gets away
"Is everyone ok?", Quillon asks
"Yeah, we're fine", Asahi says, "but we're gonna need a better strategy!"
"Grr, why didn't you attack it, Goh!", Quillon says, angry at Goh, "Why didn't you have Cinderace attack it and secure the victory?!"
"Ease up, Quillon!", Gary tells him, "Even if he had done that, that Pokémon is still way too tough to face head on!"
"Still...", Asahi says, "our Pokémon are pretty bruised up. What now?"
The crew think for a moment, but soon realize that Goh isn't there anymore, he's walking along Zapdos' trail
"Goh, what are you doing?", Quillon asks
"I beat Zapdos before, I'll do it again!", Goh tells him, "At least then I won't be in your way..."
"Go, you're not in anybody's way", Asahi tells him, "but we need you to come up with a strategy to take this Pokémon down."
Goh thinks for a moment, seemingly muttering something to himself. Gary comes close
"Goh, please., Asahi says, "We're a team, we have to-"
"Thunderous Kick damaged Electivire...", Goh said, "isn't Electivire's ability 'Motor Drive'?"
"Uh... yes?", Gary responds, "Why do you ask?"
"Ok, so we know this Pokémon probably isn't an electric type", Goh says, "Thunder Kick seems to be what Pyro Ball is to Cinderace, and Thunderbolt seemed to do really good damage against it!"
"Where are you going with this?", Quillon asks, evidently in a rude manor as Asahi bumps his shoulder in disapproval
"I'm saying, we know this Pokémon isn't an electric type, but it does carry the properties of an electric type Pokémon!", Goh says, "Asahi, what kind of berries do electric type Pokémon like?"
"Not sure...", she replies, "but maybe there are some golden razz berries around here. Those are pretty delicious to Pokémon!"
"Excellent!", Goh says, "Alright everyone, I have a plan..."
Later that day, the sun begins to set, and the Project Mew crew are all in different positions of the area
"Ready?", Goh asks on his communicator
"Ready!", everyone replies
Gary then sends out Blastoise and has him use rain dance, causing it to rain. A crack of thunder is heard, as Zapdos is seen on its way
"Blastoise, Hydro Pump!", Gary commands, as his starter Pokémon uses the move that is powered up by the rain
However, Zapdos dodged it, and readies a Thunderous Kick as it jumps into the air
Before Thunderous Kick could land, however, Blastoise counters it using Rapid Spin. Once rapid spin stops, Blastoise hits Zapdos with a Hydro Pump, sending Zapdos far back into the sky
"Now, use Skull Bash!", Gary commands, as Blastoise readies its head into its shell and fires at the Galarian bird
However, Zapdos counters it with Thunderous Kick, sending both to them flying back. Zapdos readies a Zap Cannon, and fires it at Blastoise. However, Gary has other plans...
"Blastoise, return", Gary commands, as he switches his Pokémon, "Go Electivire!"
Electivire is sent out, and absorbs the Zap Cannon, activating its Motor Drive ability
The two Pokémon roar at each other, as Zapdos attempts to land a Thunderous Kick. However, Electivire shields it with protect and lands a Thunder Punch on Zapdos, sending it back
Zapdos attempts to run circles around Electivire, but Electivire surprises it with its newfound speed and hits it with Wild Charge, sending it back
Zapdos prepares another Thunderous Kick, however...
"Cinderace, use Pyro Ball!", Goh commands, as Cinderace hits Zapdos with Pyro Ball, although it is weakened by the rain
Zapdos is set off, and leaps at Goh with Brave Bird. However, Asahi's Urshifu comes up from behind Goh and charges at Zapdos head on
"Urshifu", Asahi commands, from by Goh's side, "hit it with Surging Strikes!"
Once face to face, Zapdos attempts to dodge it with Detect. However, as another fist had simply come out of nowhere, Urshifu's attack still lands anyways, causing major damage to Zapdos
"Wow!", Goh says in surprise, "What the heck was that???"
"That was Urshifu's ability", Asahi replies, "Unseen Fist! It renders moves like Protect and Detect absolutely worthless."
Urshifu charges at Zapdos with ice punch, while Zapdos counters with Brave Bird. Brave Bird overpowers Urshifu, however, Gary's Electivire meets Zapdos with a Thunder Punch, while Goh has Cinderace to pin it down with Blaze Kick
Zapdos launched Cinderace off of it and attempts to hit it with Brave Bird. However, Quillon's Scizor gets in front of it, and lands a critical hit using Night Slash, causing it to stumble
"Now's our chance!", Goh says, as he throws the golden razz berry balm at Zapdos, causing it to grow lighter headed
"Now let's try this one more time!", Goh says, with an Ultra Ball in hand, "Go... Ultra Ball!"
The ball is thrown at Zapdos, but Zapdos knocks it right back. However, Cinderace intercepts the Ultra Ball, and knocks it right back at Zapdos, landing an excellent curveball
The Ultra Ball jiggles once, it jiggles twice, and it jiggles thrice. But in the end... the Pokémon is caught
"Aha yes! I just caught a Galarian Zapdos!", Goh exclaims, with just about everyone and their Pokémon cheering
"I've gotta say Goh...", Gary tells him, "that was a pretty good strategy!"
"Yeah! And you made the right call about those berries", Asahi tells him, "you're pretty good at this!"
"Thanks!", Goh tells them, though he then notices Quillon staying silent, until he comes over to Goh
Goh is uncertain of what Quillon intends to do... until he puts his hand out
"Not bad kid", Quillon says, with a slight smile on his face, "maybe you are project mew material after all!"
Goh is surprised to see Quillon praising him, let alone smile, but he shakes his hand in response
"Thank you!", Goh tells him, "It means a lot!"
Asahi gets a call from the professor. They tell him about their battles with Zapdos and that Goh managed to catch it. The Professor congratulates them on their work, and asks them to continue work on the other two birds, to which the team reluctantly agrees to do
The team discuss the next step of action, and they ultimately agree to scout different areas in search of signs of the legendary birds and to report back their findings in the mourning
Goh heads off near the snow
"Hey, Cinderace...", Goh asks his partner, "what do you think the others are doing?"
"Cinder, Ace!", Cinderace responds
"Yeah, I bet Ash is battling some kind of giant Pokémon or something!", Goh replies
"And Chloe is probably worried out of her mind about everything", Goh says, with a slight giggle
"They need your help, Goh! Now go to them!" , a strange voice said to him in his head
"W-what???", Goh said out loud, "Who said that???"
Cinderace is confused however, as it didn't hear anything
Goh then notices something in the blushes
"H-hello?", Goh asks, as he creeps near the bushes, "Who are you?"
What Goh finds in the bushes are two blue glowing eyes. He gazes into them, the blue glow reflecting off of his eyes
"Brave tamer of Zapdos... I have a favor to ask of you.", the strange head voice said
The episode ends with Goh looking at the glowing eyes...
