chapter ten
waiting for the damn fight to start already.

Christina looked worried down at the red liquid at her feet. Her whole body froze as she closed her eyes. She could feel her nerves go haywire as she fell to the floor.

It had been a week since Edward and Bella returned from their honeymoon. Bella had gotten bigger in the past week, now looking like she was three to four months pregnant. She had begun to grow weaker since coming home. She held down most of her food, but would throw up every morning— so, her body wasn't retaining any of it long enough to give her body the energy she needed.

She was still determined to keep the baby until term. She didn't notice the slight changes the same way the vampires did. They saw her slight bruises that started to linger around her stomach from the baby's kicks. They saw her slightly hollowed cheekbones from the lack of nutrition in her diet. Bella was still walking around fine, but her energy wasn't there. Going up and down the stairs was more tiresome than it should be.

Christina opened her eyes back to look at the blood she threw up. She had to blame it on the nerves being shot from Bella's pregnancy. She had no other explanation other than that, but she's never puked up blood before either.

The young mother got back up from her crouch on the floor, diving in deeper into the woods to look for another meal. Maybe it was the elk... maybe she needed some mammal to get her by.

She silently tracked down a mountain lion as it stalked it's own prey. As the lion moved to tackle the deer down, Christina lunged. She was able to get it down and her teeth around it's neck within seconds. The sweet blood flowed down to her stomach, and she was in bliss. She had to believe that the elk's blood was only a fluke.

She had to.

Christina wiped her mouth as she hopped up the stairs and into the Cullens household. It has been tense as everyone started picking sides— ones for going against Bella's wishes, and ones for keeping the baby. Christina has been Switzerland, much like Carlisle. They both looked at it from a medical point of view, but also knew that Bella was going to make her decisions by herself.

She gave Bella the best smile she could manage as she joined her and Rosalie in the living room. The blonde has refused to leave Bella's side unless Christina was close; afraid that someone who try and force Bella to get rid of the baby. Rosalie gave Christina a small nod before taking off outside to go hunt.

The young mother sat next Bella's growing stomach. She rested her hand on the slightly round belly, almost cracking a full smile as the baby responded to Christina's touch. If it wasn't for Bella's inhale of breath, the young mother might have.

She dropped her hand instantly, but Bella shook her head. The young girl grabbed her sister's hand before putting it back on her stomach with a sigh. "You make a good ice pack."

Christina chuckled lowly, allowing her hand to rest on Bella's stomach again. "Didn't I tell you to use protection before you left for your honeymoon?"

Bella's cheeks turned red. "Uh—" She turned her eyes away from Christina. "Didn't really plan to need it."

Christina laughed shortly, enjoying the small moment of normalcy. Her smile slowly dropped from her face as she looked at her hand on Bella's stomach. "Do you really think you can do this?" Christina asked, barely over a whisper.

Bella nodded her head. Her doe eyes looked towards her sister with the most confidence she's ever had. "I do." Bella sighed as she looked down at her stomach. "I never pictured myself as a mother, you know. I saw all the struggles that you overcome with being a young mom, and the fact that I never really pictured myself getting married— I didn't think it was in my cards. But, Nina... I've never felt more sure about something, not since agreeing to be with Edward forever. I love him so much, and I want nothing more to have this baby... our baby."

"I get it." Christina nodded her head. "I support your decisions, you know I always will. I just hope this doesn't end badly."

Bella shook her head. "It won't. I have faith I'll make it out because you did."

Christina dry laughed. "Bella, I had a human baby."

She paused as she looked down at her stomach with wonder. "Well, this baby's a part of me, right? So, that must make it part human."

Christina was silent after Bella's words. Her new golden eyes stared down at Bella's stomach as a soft smile appeared on her face. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

The young mother helped Annie out of the bathtub, drying her off slowly with the fluffy towel.

"Momma," Annie spoke up. Christina's eyes turned upwards to give Annie her attention. "Is Aunty Bella going to be okay?"

Christina sighed, not wanting to lie to her child, but also not wanting to tell her the truth. "I don't know, baby."

"Is she going to die?"

Christina froze as her undead heart broke. She was quick to bring Annie into a hug as she shook her head. "No. I won't let that happen." She rocked both and forth with Annie in her arms.

It took a little bit to get Annie to calm down enough to fall asleep. Christina read her a book to help settle her worries for her aunt. She tucked the blanket closer to her neck before walking silently out of her room.

Christina stopped in the middle of the hallway as a familiar twist settled into her stomach. Without gaining attention to herself, she sped up and disappeared into her and Carlisle's shared bathroom.

She gagged as the blood from her earlier hunt came back up. Her pale fingers gripped the mat under her body as she blankly stared at the red liquid once again. Fear was starting to take over her body as she couldn't come to any conclusion as to why she wasn't able to hold down blood. She was a vampire— she can't get ill.

Christina heaved as another wave of pain went through her stomach. She could almost swear that she was starting to sweat from being violently sick.

She leaned her head on the toilet, as she flushed. She watched the blood disappear down the drain as an unshed tears filled green eyes.

"How you feeling, Bella?" Carlisle asked as he walked through the front door.

The human girl was still up, watching TV with Rosalie when Carlisle returned home from work. Her eyes were starting to droop from exhaustion, but every time she started to fall asleep, the baby would move and wake her up.

Despite that, Bella was still able to give Carlisle a following smile. "I'm okay."

"We'll do another check up tomorrow morning," Carlisle said. "After you get some rest." His eyes looked at the bags under her own with worry.

She nodded her head. She rolled onto her side and pulled the blanket closer around herself, too tired to move upstairs into a proper bed.

"Where's Christina?" Carlisle asked. He couldn't hear much going on in the house, making him believe that they all went hunting for the weekend.

"She went upstairs to put Annie to bed, but she never came back down," Rosalie answered. "I'd imagine she's taking a bath."

Carlisle's lips twitched in amusement, thinking about how much his wife enjoyed her bathing time. He gave his daughter a nod before walking up the stairs and moving towards his room. Once he got to the bathroom door, he knocked lightly. He furrowed his brows when he didn't get an answer back— usually Christina would invite him in.

He tried knocking again before pushing the door open to peek inside.

Christina moved her position from leaning on the toilet to resting her back against the tub. She stared blankly at the ground, still mulling over her thoughts as Carlisle walked up to her with concern.

"Christina?" Carlisle called, not getting a response from her. "Hey, Nina. Talk to me. What's the matter?"

She blinked dark eyes back at him. "Something's wrong with me."

Carlisle's brows furrowed in worry, especially at the monotonous reply from his wife. "Christina, you have to tell me what's going on. I don't understand—"

"I threw up blood today," Christina interrupted. She looked down at her hands. "I don't understand it myself... I didn't hold in any thing from this morning's hunt."

Carlisle was silent. He wasn't too sure what could be happening for Christina to be throwing up blood. He's never heard of a vampire's body rejecting any sort of blood. He snapped out of his stupor as Christina started crying again.

"Hey," he whispered. He brought her into his chest, alarmed as how warm she felt. "We'll figure it out," he mumbled. He was already trying to add everything up in his head but couldn't come up with a conclusion.

"What if we don't?" She whispered against his chest. Her lip wiggled as she could feel the cool temperature of Carlisle's body. Her earlier assumption of her burning up was right.

"We will. I promise."
