The next morning, all frats and sororities have received the next enigma for the next event of the Scare Games.
"The walls have ears. And those are sensitive. Watch out were you step. The single little sound you may produce could eliminate you for the rest of the games."
Everyone here has to be prepared, for this event may be difficult. And the RORs have immediately understood it.
"Alright everyone. This afternoon, the next event will go on through the Liberal Arts of Monstrosities Building main hall. Has anyone any idea of what this event is, stating from the enigma?", Johnny asks out.
He has reunited his team outside to the backyard of their row to be doing training. Chet raises his claws as no one was responding and simply stared at their leader.
"Yes, Chet?", Johnny asks.
"This will surely be about being silent, isn't it?!", Chet shouts out.
"Indeed. So take example from it and quit shouting that loud, please.", Johnny cringed out, a finger rubbing in one ear (where are da ears? They tiny?)
"Sorry."
"So, what we need to watch out, is how much of loud thumping feet we are and try to make them as noisy as feathers. If you are being too loud, humans will hear you. And I am sure they do have big ears.", Johnny adds, "So, for fun and for being more realistic in this training, I brought you a helping sensitive hard working pal. A great party-pooper of his kind. Rick Long-slumber."
He backs off aside, revealing from behind where Johnny stood, a sleeping snoring blob monster the floor. The teammates look surprised at the blob, blinking multiple times.
"Uh....", Javier lets out, "For what?"
"Hey!", the blob wakes up suddenly, angry.
Everyone except Johnny, startled.
"I'm trying to sleep hera. D'you mind talking quieta?", the blob shouted.
"Our little volunteering handy here has a very very sensitive hearing. What you say as a medium toned voice, he hears it like you bursted on him.", Johnny explains, whispering proudly.
"Who said a volunteered?", the blob asks, greedy.
"I did promise you a brand very comfy new bed to rest on in exchange of you being here, didn't I?", Johnny grinned brightly at him.
"Sure. Wake meh when it's ova.", the blob then drops back to sleep, snoring again.
'I sure hope for him he isn't a student. I would have failed my studies for a long time.', thinks April, 'Yet if he isn't a student, I wonder where Johnny found him.'
"That sleepy head has apparently broken down his bed. I found him a good job to compensate those damages.", Johnny whispers to his team, "Now, do you see these flags at this side of the yard? From where you stand, each of you needs to be as quiet as possible while you march through the yard. And how noisy to be when marching on tiny rocks, right?"
The team could a large amount of tiny rocks spilled all over the grass floor of the yard.
"You, my dear compatriots, are going to have to march through this yard full of rocks and come back with your own flags, without waking up blob here. If he dares say something, you go back from where you came from and you wait until it's your turn once more. Should be easy peasy knowing you all, right? Now, which of you would like to take the honor of starting."
Reggie raises one hand, growling excited.
"Quiet, please.", the blob calls out.
"Out. Sorry.", Johnny shrugs.
Reggie looks outraged, groaning. He hasn't even started that he already made noise. Now Chip raises one of his own hands up.
"Alright, you go.", Johnny says, standing himself aside from the yard to let space.
Chip steps forward. He looks down at the pit of rocks. He tries to find spots where the rocks don't lay on, but the ground seems to be filled with those. Now Chip tries tip toeing on them, slowly, softly and carefully to the flags. Sadly for him, some rocks rolled from under his feet.
"Hey! What did a say?", the blob calls out.
Chip grunts and walks back where he stood. Chet crawls forwards. He thinks that if he is careful enough, with the tips of his little crab feet, he might succeed. So he crawls through the path of rocks. He arrived pretty far until he slipped with one of his many feet on a few rocks and falls off on the ground.
"Ya so loud ya sound lika cara accident.", the blob calls out once again.
Chet whines and crawls back to his place. Out of Javier and April, no one of them wanted to go. April gulps as she looked towards the path. Javier simply discretely pushed April forward to start. April looks down the rocks, then to her feet. Her feet are large and big. This is going to be tough. April lays one feet down. Then another one pretty far away. And then more further.
"Ya suck being quiet.", the blob grunts, turning himself on a side to be avoiding the noise.
April grits her teeth awkwardly, walking back on her place with her head down. Now, Javier, so confident of himself, takes his steps forwards and looks out for any wrong move he makes. So far so good, it is fine. The blob doesn't wake up for now. And then suddenly, when Javier only needed a few more steps to reach his flag-
"Quiet down!", the blob yells.
Javier freezes before thumping with a foot on the floor, frustrated.
During a long time, the team has tried to reach the flags without waking the grunting blob from his slumber. Unfortunately, it was hard for them to succeed. How to be so quiet while marching on so many rocks with a sleepy head hearing so well? Is it so hard to be the quietest as possible? And then was Chet's turn once more after a long time. He has tried this at least a dozen times. And now he crawls the best he can towards the flags, now paying closer attention to the sounds he produced and how he stepped on the rocks. Finally, he reaches his own flag and takes it, crawling back away towards his place. He's sweating hard, doubting he would make it back on his place with the flag. But at last.... He made it. He steps out the rocks with the flag, and the blob didn't even flinch. The others stare at him with their jaws dropped and their eyes widen. Chet makes the same face as he looks towards the path of rocks before turning back and heaving his claws up victoriously.
"Yeah! I did it! Way to go there!", he chants, "Let's see if you can do better, squirts!"
One by one, the crew members started to get better and better to their trials. The second one to have succeeded in this test was Javier, who has analyzed Chet's moves carefully to catch how he made it. Then Chip made it too, he who has learned a lot about all of what he did wrong during his trials. And then came April, she tried her best and has searched for better improvement. And lastly, after several trials and attempts, was Reggie.... He simply rushed too quickly before thinking but succeeded in the end. Johnny claps his hands to each of them.
"Great! Well, I suppose we must be ready then. May the best scarers on campus be the scariest!", he exclaims.
The males of the group howled and shouted in victory while April smiled, happy of the progress.
"Now.... who's hungry?", Johnny asks, his hands holding each other.
Reggie growls excitedly, answering the question. Everyone else just nod in agreement.
"Then, here you go. Move your tired butts into the kitchen.", Johnny commands.
The big boys rush inside the row. April simply follows behind calmly. Johnny stops her with a hand on her arm and looks down at her. April meets his look, questioning herself what he wanted to say.
"Hey, nice work out there.", Johnny says, smiling, "You are working hard enough. I'm proud."
April blushes lightly and smiles up. She jumps on him to hug him, which makes Johnny let out a light happy laugh.
"Thanks.", she whispered out.
"You shouldn't thank me. You did all this by yourself.", he whispers back.
He then lets go off April and puts her back on the ground.
"Now, you wouldn't want to miss lunch, would you? My pals can be pretty messy and good gluttons when they are dead hungry. Let's go.", Johnny says, dragging April inside the row, one hand behind her back.
As everyone got inside though, someone has been forgotten.
"Oi! Have ya turned the volume offa? So calm nowa.", the blob, still snoring, mumbles out.
-
"Wow.... Is this the path we should go through?", April asks out, dumbfounded.
"Looks like it to me.", Chet answers, with the same widened face she has.
Every team is gathered in a corridor of the building for each, surveilled by cameras. And in front of their eyes, everyone could see the corridors filled with objects that are noisy. And not just the ground, but also the roof and the side walls. Also, among the side walls objects, there are mannequins dressed up as elder humans with three lights on each. One that glows green when the corridor is in excellent silence, one that will glow orange if the candidates are making noise and should beware, and the red one in case the mannequin has heard them and caught them. Yes, the rules are that you shouldn't wake up a single one of these mannequins or the exit door to the other side will stay locked and you are blocked inside. The difficulty in this event is high. Might be even higher than the exercises that Johnny has put on to his whole team. And depending on how far the teams have gotten, if there are more than one team caught up, then the both presidents of the Greek council will be determining who goes forward and who is eliminated by how far they got before getting caught.
And this task seems harder than everyone expected it to be. But now it's too late to back off, right? Besides, there's a game to win. So here goes nothing. From behind the cameras, the Greek council, surrounded by little crowd, are about to start the event.
"This will probably one of the toughest events we will ever have since the beginning of those games.", the president, Claire, starts.
"And one single mistake could trap them inside this noise nightmare. Those little fellas on the walls are highly sensitive to sound.", adds Brock, exclaiming.
"Now, let's all be quiet. On three.... Two.... One...."
All corridors, having red and green lights on a corner of the wall, beep green to signalize all teams they could start moving. Every single one of them starts moving, slowly, quietly and carefully. Not one of them knows how each other go on with since the teams are in separate corridors. Though April wished she could have seen the Oozmas before the start. Maybe she'll see them at the end of the event. But now she and her team need to focus on their own corridor. She turns to Johnny, the leader, expecting instructions.
"So, how do we proceed?", she whispers the quietest possible, hoping he could hear her.
Johnny gently and quietly covered her mouth, looking at the mannequins to see if they heard anything. Their hearing bars elevated a little up, but not crossing over the orange line. Johnny then looks over to his team, uncovering April's mouth. He waves with his hands, making signs for them. In translation, it seems the chief of the Roar Omega Roar wants all of them to move altogether, each on different corners, watching out for their steps and those of each. Javier would take the ceiling, since he could climb on some pipes hanging and also he is the quietest and most careful that he could watch over his whole team, Reggie and Chip would take the left side, Chip staying behind Reggie to watch him closely since he could be a great brute, Chet the middle where there are the most noisy objects spilled all over and in which he could use his thin crab feet to go through, and Johnny and April would march down the right side, April forward because by how small she is she needs to see clearly through her path, and for Johnny to watch her closely.
And here they go. April is a little scared of this. She has pretty big cylindrical feet with two toes as claws. Her feet could be dangerous for the team. She sighs internally, watching closely where she goes. There are so many.... So many objects. And they could all make such a mess if anyone dared to step on them. Honk toys, squeaky ducks, whoopee cushions, small balloons, aluminum papers.... Javier is going on pretty well for now, he is agile enough to make it easy. For Chet it's the same. It's a great advantage for him to have such feet. Reggie is growing a little impatient because he wishes to simply rush the corridor off. And Chip is slightly nervous because he must watch his own steps and those of Reggie, who, he notices, could be clumsy. Johnny takes his own parkour easily, he doesn't have any problem with that. April on her side, could swear, she feels her face grow pale and her heart race faster the more she and her team approach from the exit door. Those objects are so frustrating. She can't take a wrong step. Not now.
Reggie suddenly feels his nostrils getting itchy. He sniffs before a pulsing feeling starts growing stronger on the inside of his nose holes. Chip can notice his sudden struggle.
"Bud. Don't do it.", he says.
But it's too strong to hold. And soon the rest of the team notice it and freeze, their eyes widen towards Reggie. But as he was about to let it out, Chip gripped on his comrade and covered his big mouth with his hands. Reggie sneezed on Chip's hands, the sneeze muffled, but still possible to hear. Everyone turns to the mannequins. The bar elevated, but not higher than a little to the orange. Everyone, except Reggie who's covered by Chip's hands, sighs quietly in relief. Everyone continues their march. Chip uncovers Reggie and to his disgust, he finds his hands covered with Reggie's Saliva? Boogers? No one wants to know, right?
"That's messed up.", Chip whispers to himself, grumbling, "I could really use a towel now."
The team continues onward. It seems things are calmer now and that they are not much far away. But just as things seemed easy, on Javier's side, a small squeaking toy hasn't been glued well on the ceiling and it detached before Javier's eyes. It is falling and Javier wasn't fast enough to catch it. April on her side, spots the toy and bents over. She reaches for the toy before it falls on the floor and grabs it with both her hands. Everyone checks on the mannequins, but they don't seem to have moved their bars.
But as April was focused on the mannequins, she slowly loses balance and is about to trip on the floor. Johnny who stood behind her immediately grabbed her with his both hands before she would touch any of the objects on the floor. April sighs in relief, having thought her team would have failed if she dared fall on the noisy objects. She turns her head around and smiles to Johnny behind her.
"Thanks.", she whispers quietly.
Johnny nods, smiling brightly.
"Psst.", Chet whispers out, making Johnny and April turn around to him, "We might wish to focus on the competition now, please?"
Johnny puts down April and she puts the toy she had in her hands on the floor away from her feet. Everyone starts to march again quietly to the exit. And in the end, there wasn't much obstacles left. Everything went back normally. And they finally get out of the corridor, vanquishing the event.
"ROAR OMEGA ROAR ARE THE WINNERS OF THIS EVENT!", Brock announces behind the screen.
The team is acclaimed by another part of the crowd students having waited for the teams to come out from the corridors. The ROR boys pose victoriously. April is impatient to see the Oozma Kappa come out second. She knows this team since last scare games have become truly good scarers and she knows that they try all their best in situations like these.
"Second place, Python Nu Kappa!", Claire announces next.
Oh? It's not them? Oh well, maybe they are just right behind the PNKs.
"Third place, Jaws Tetha Chi!", Brock continues on.
Wait.... and what about the Oozmas? Where are they? Oh let's just hope they aren't last and get eliminated from the competition. Are they? Please no.
"Fourth place, Oozma Kappa!", Claires goes on.
"Oof. At least that....", April sighs in relief.
But that doesn't last long as she sees the team come out of their corridor exhausted and pretty much with down faces. Well most of them. Frank is more likely grumpy and boiling from the inside, glaring at his team. For Cthulhu's sake, what happened with the team? They didn't look like this on the previous scare games nor in the first event of this one season. And Johnny notices her stare on this team.
"Had a hard time, huh? I guess that now with Sullivan and the beachball out, things get tense.", he comments, still holding a little grudge against this team.
"No, they aren't dependent from them, they are doing great. You should see the scare lessons.", April corrects him, "But there's truly something wrong with them...."
"Don't worry much about them. It won't kill them having not impressed anyone on one event, will it? Have happy thoughts; we are winning this game."
"But they are my friends too, wether game rivals or not. I think I'll take a little talk with them later on."
Johnny shrugs.
"As you wish. But you might not try that with the male edgy echidna. I wouldn't want you to return all covered in needles, right?", with this, Johnny goes back to pose to the crowd.
"Last place, Lambda Nu Kappa!", Brock announces lastly, "Which means they are eliminated!"
On contrary of the other teams, this last one got itself stuck in the corridor. They have made too much noise. And from the Greek council's point of view on the cameras, they may see the team groan and growl in defeat, disappointed. This same team, who decided to not let April in because they found someone on a higher scale of skills.
The rest of the teams are enjoying their victories and success, while the Oozmas are trying to gain back their energies and motivation. April can't help but feel sorry, for whatever could have brought them to feel that way.
