The next few weeks get a bit tense. A bit for almost everyone.
The Roar Omega Roar fraternity haven't found their last member yet. The rules have come so strict that almost no one can pass those. The members of the team also make the candidates prove their values, but nobody gets approved. The RORs want someone who could crush the other teams and to make the team win the next games and make everyone forget their past loss. Unfortunately though, since last Scare Games, the people have also lost a little interest on the team. And since the new hard conditions put on to get admitted, they got even less attired. The RORs need to get someone as fast as possible, or they might not even play for this next season. They also have heard about the new recruits from the Oozmas, so they kind of are more annoyed with it.
April on her side, feels a bit uncomfortable. Due to the fact Frank Fritz has now joined the Oozma Kappa. He became the reason why now, she spends less time with the team, even though they are friends. She discovered that Frank kind of sticks with them and acts nice and friendly while hiding his true colors from them when he's around his sister, who's in the team too, and around April and anyone else. And since he sticks with them almost every time in every day, like at lunch, at break time, after school, he could bother April if she would dare to approach. And all this in secret. April dislikes him. He's has a disgusting persona. So she slowly dares less to approach the Oozmas. And sadly they notice it too. Only, she won't tell them why is she this much separated from them. She doesn't dare, or else she is scared that the Oozmas could have problems with him like she does. But honestly she feels down because of this. This situation couldn't have gotten any worse, could it?
But apart from having rough moments, when she avoids the Oozmas, she also then spends more time with Johnny to be less lonely. And the more time they were passing with each other, the more they seemed to be closer. April sincerely is noticing that she is starting to somehow have feelings for him. She does. Only, she doesn't dare to show them. She doesn't feel herself worthy enough to be with a monster like him. He's a rather tough and autonomic guy. Why would he need to have a girlfriend with all the popularity he got all for himself? Johnny on the other hand, ignores the existence of this feeling he starts to grow towards her. He knows he's got a feeling, but he can't figure out what and how it's possible that he feels that way. He would gladly show it out to her, but he doesn't know how to do it yet. And since he ignores what feeling he has towards her that is growing, he will wait until he is sure.
On this brand new day, right after school, April has decided to hang out with Johnny, outside of the university. It's best for them not to get disturbed by any of the RORs who might question or argue too much. There won't be any bother. She is waiting for him a bit further away from the fraternity row Johnny lives in. She hasn't seen him since the beginning of the day, they have decided to see each other last day. He comes out from the row after a while, lightly embarrassed by something. He's rubbing something on his cheek. And as April can see what it is, she feels worried. She walks towards him.
"Hey. What happened to your cheek? Looks swollen and red.", she asks him.
"Ah nothing. It's been like this since the beginning but nothing to worry about.", he says.
"You sure?"
"Definitely. By the way hello.", he smiles.
April smiles back. But she will remember that small booboo he got on his cheek. Is he now having fights with people? How did he get that? Well for now, as long as it's not too serious and that she doesn't see other injuries like these, then it's fine. So now they are marching through the campus in direction of the exit.
"So, how have you been?", April starts.
"Pretty rough journey but had worse.", he says casually, "You?"
"I think the same.", she agrees.
"Oh? Why that?"
"Nothing, I just got annoyed by Frank again. But don't worry, he hasn't been to harsh."
"What did he do this time?"
"It doesn't matter that much. He just pulled up on my hair in class and then put up the excuse that he thought it was a peruke and that he wanted to see how I looked without them."
"You want me to do something about it? Don't worry I got plenty of ideas of how to pull his own spike hairs out and play with those."
"No, no, it's fine. I can handle it myself."
But there's something else that itches her since a little bit of time. Something that itches her since she got to know that Frank and Fanny joined the Oozma Kappa. Something that itches her the more the days are passing and getting nearer to the Scare Games competition. And she can't maintain herself but to be grimacing a bit.
"What's with the face?", Johnny asks as he looked at her and noticed the look.
"Ah, nothing.", she tries to hide it, but her teeth gritting hard are proving her lies.
Johnny raises an eyebrow up, unconvinced. April sees that he is staring at her, waiting for the answer of truth. She tried resisting to tell anything but gives up.
"Ok, I want to participate on the next Scare Games. Happy?", she finally answers.
"Is that so? Rookie wishes to play in the games?", he chuckles, surprised.
"Yeah. Sort of.", April blushes in embarrassment, "Problem is, I really don't feel like trying to get in a team for it. I feel scared about it. But I have this urge of wanting to participate. I don't know what to do."
"You are still a bit scared about it aren't you?"
"Yeah."
"Well I don't know how the sororities here on campus work, but some of them seem to be nicer on conditions and recruits. But then in the end, you should be choosing a team, whatever it is. You want to be with this or that team then go by them and try out. You don't know what happens next if you don't try."
"You think I've got a chance?"
"What?", now he looks at her, stunned by the question.
"Do you think I've got a chance to get into a sorority? Do you think I could make it into the game and win it?", she asks again.
Johnny thinks for a little while. He doesn't know what to say. He usually underestimates his game rivals. If she ever had to participate in the games, she would surely end up as his rival since she will have to enter a sorority or a team that lets in women. But she's kind of his friend. Or even close. He doesn't want to have to push her down. Oh, but now that he thinks about it.... if she ever had to enter in the games, they would be fighting against each other for the win. He can't afford to lose the games again. But he also can't afford himself to hurt her. He doesn't want to do that to her. And she probably didn't realize that she might have to play against him. How innocent she can be. Johnny tries to find the best fitting words to not say something wrong or hopeless.
"Well, you showed me few times since we know each other that you do scare. That for sure. You got something about it. But in the end, you will have to work hard enough to earn all you are searching for. In my opinion, you can do this, but you are the one who will tell me wrong or right about it.", he says.
"You think so?", she asks.
He nods.
"Whatever you decide, wether it's participating in the games or not, I'm with you.", he says.
"Thanks. I'll try to think about it.", she says, grinning.
It got silent for a bit as they have now exited the university's campus. As they are walking through the streets, a monster is passing by near them on opposite side. That one guy looks at them, then smirks.
"How's it going lovebirds?", he simply commented, continuing his walk.
Both April and Johnny quickly turn around and freeze as they stare at that monster walking away. It took them a while for them to stop staring at him and turn back around. April is pulling her hood on her face so hard to hide her face gone now full red, and Johnny looks away, a bright blush that could be seen through his fur, a hand behind the back of his head.
"That was awkward. Let's just continue to walk and forget about this.", he lets out, laughing in embarrassment.

A few hours later, at the dorms, April is looking up the list of sororities existing on her bed. She wishes to check out what she could join for the Scare Games if she ever decides to join in. There are many around the campus. Those who participate in the last Scare Games and the ones who didn't.
"Let's see....", she mumbles to herself while going through the list, "Python Nu Kappa. They actually all look the same and act the same way. And they are kind of snobby too. I don't think I want to do plastic surgery to look just like them. Ok.... Eta Hiss Hiss. Urgh, too creepy and moody. Slugma Slugma Kappa. Might be trying. I heard they lost a member because they broke friendship with her. Beta Phi. They sound ok. Theta Roar. No, they are actually really strict. Gamma Blob. Same. Sigma Slug. Why not? And Lambda Nu Kappa. Pretty tough one. There are a lot of sororities that I could choose. And some of them seem good. Should I try to given into the Scare Games? Can I? I want to. Let's give it a try. I can try to go over each of their rows and present myself to them."
-
April has taken the courage to give a chance on the Scare Games. She is quite nervous because she knows that if she goes on one of the rows, she has a little chance to get refused. She'll try out to present herself to each sororities. And the first one she wants to try out, is the Slugma Slugma Kappa, one of the sororities from last year's competition. Since they don't have a member yet, maybe she has a chance to join them. She is currently walking through the campus to their row. She is nervous, but decided to try in. She has to. It's time to end this fear of being rejected or judged. She walks to the door and knocks on it twice. The door opens, revealing one of the members of the team.
"Hello?", she asks.
"Hi. I'm April Slyther. I'm interested in joining in your team for the next Scare Games.", April starts.
"Oh, sorry. For now we aren't much active anymore. I don't think we'll be going to the next Scare Games this year. We've had rough days since we lost one of our members. I'm really sorry.", the member says, sadly.
"That's fine. I am sorry for you. I hope you have a nice day.", April says, starting to walk away.
"Thanks. Bye.", the member says, closing back the door of the row.
And minus one sorority. Let'y try the next one. Beta Phi. And again, same starting.
"Sorry, we're already full."
Another one. Sigma Slug.
"Sorry we won't be going in the games this year. We have been suspended by the Dean for infractions."
Ok. Let's hope for the last one, Lambda Nu Kappa. Let's cross fingers.
"Oh, hey there. We might have one remaining place for you.", there was the leader of the team who opened the door.
"Really?", she says.
"Yeah. But first, come in. We got to make sure you can be fit enough to join in. Follow me.", she says.
April excitedly and surprisedly follows the leader of the sorority inside the row. She follows her until they arrive inside a room. A big room full of utensils, mannequins and with a lot of space. Probably the training room of the sorority.
"The name's Rita Rich. I lead this sorority. Tell me about you. What's your motivation?", the leader says, stopping in the middle of her track and looking down to small little April.
"Well, I'm April Slyther like I said before. I'm a second year Scare Major and am 19 years old. I wish to integrate your sorority because I thought your team looked interesting and has potential. I also wish to be participating in the next Scare Games with you and test out what's it like to work in a team like yours.", April introduces herself.
Rita nods.
"Interesting....", she says, "What are your strengths in scaring?"
"I got an ear piercing screech and I am pretty quiet and furtive when I have to approach kids to scare them.", April sorts out.
"Uh huh, show me your screech."
April inhales and lets out the best of her screeching at Rita, who smiles.
"Pretty good indeed. Ok, now, let's test out something. I'm a 6 year old girl with a fear of clowns and can't sleep without a little light on. What scare do you use?"
"Sneaking Shadow approach and Jazz Clown."
"Demonstrate. Do as if I was the child sleeping."
At this, April backs off. She then starts approaching Rita by going from behind objects to other objects and from furniture to furniture before jumping in front of her and doing the Jazz Clown.
"Good. Very good.", she comments, "I'll be thinking about your candidature and then I'll be telling you, let's say, this evening at 18:00 PM. Come back to the row at this time and then I'll tell you if you are accepted. What do you say?"
"Alright, thank you so much.", April says excitedly.
"The pleasure is mine, kid. Thank you for coming in. Goodbye.", Rita waves at her, as she conducts April back outside.
As April now has exited the row, exited from this little internship she got with the Lambda Nu Kappa leader. She may have a chance to be in and play in the games. She may finally be accepted baby a team. She can't wait to hear out later on at 18:00 PM what she got to say.
