I walked over to the library, opened the door, and walked toward a bookshelf. I tried looking for books of past Tri-Wizard Tournaments. After a while of looking, I only found one book about the 1792 tournament. The last tournament before it was discontinued. I took the book off the shelf, sat down, and waited for Cedric to arrive. I sat there thinking about how else to help Harry with the first task.
How am I supposed to help him? I don't even know what the first task is. The best I can do is fill his knowledge with some spells, I guess.
And then I thought about Cedric. How him being a champion worries me, and that bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I mean I guess I like him...but I don't want to get close to him. What if something happens? I would never forgive myself, I wouldn't be able to live. We've only known each other for about a month, but I already feel so close to him. I already love him...
I was stuck in my thoughts for about five minutes when someone sat next to me.
"Knock, Knock. Is anybody in Emily's smart brain?" I snapped out of my thoughts when Cedric knocked on my head ever so gently.
"Hey, Cedric. Sorry, I was just lost in my thoughts." I chuckled awkwardly and rubbed my temple.
"What's wrong?" He asked me, with a worried expression on his face. He tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and I looked up at him. Merlin I love him. Suddenly I felt like I could trust him. I felt like I could tell him all my troubles.
"I'm just trying to figure out how to help Harry prepare for the first task. I don't even know what it is, so how am I supposed to help him prepare? The least I can do is fill his knowledge with spells, but I don't know what spells to use because I don't know what or who he's going to fight or what's going-" I took a deep breath. Cedric was such a great listener. He nodded and listened intently to everything I had to say.
"Calm down, Em. I'm going to be okay. I Promise. Keep helping Harry as you are doing, he will be fine." He said stroking my hair. We stayed like that for a while, until I pulled away. I took my headband off, and put my hair up in a ponytail, with loose hairs hanging out. I took my headband and put it back on.
"Thank you." I smiled at him. "Well, I found a book from the tournament from 1792. The last tournament before it was discontinued." I said, opening up the book.
"Well, what did you find" He asked me, scooting his chair closer.
"I haven't opened it yet, I was waiting for you." I smiled.
"Well then let's look!" He said, watching me open the book. I dragged my finger through every page, speed-reading what it had to say about the first task. "Aha! I found it! It says here:
The first task of the 1792 Tri-Wizard Tournament had the champions chase around a Cockatrice and try to catch it. However, things got out of hand when the beast went on a rampage and injured three of the judges. The tournament was hereby discontinued after this incident." I read aloud.
"So I might have to catch a Cockatrice?" Cedric hesitated. I thought about it.
"I don't think so...if I'm thinking about this right, then they aren't going to make you guys catch a cockatrice because of the incident that happened. That's the reason they discontinued it because they didn't want anything like that to happen again, so why would they make the champions do the task that discontinued the tournament?" I explained, thoroughly.
"What a smart girl." Cedric beamed, shaking his head.
"I'd like to thank my mother for my smarts," I blushed.
"Is there anything that hints at what the first task would've been for the next tournament?" He asked me, curiously. I turned back to look at the book. I flipped a couple of pages until I read the title of the page it read, What Would've Been the First Task of the 1793 Tri-Wizard Tournament. I widened my eyes and read the page. I almost fainted in shock after reading what the first task would've been.
"Cedric, Ced-?" I said shaking his arm.
"What's wrong? Did you find it?" He asked me. I pushed the book toward him and he read it. His eyes widened and he leaned back in the chair, running his hand through his hair.
"Dragons? How and I gonna prepare Harry for dragons?" I asked, a bit angrily. I turned to look at Cedric." How are you going to fight dragons?" I panicked. "Okay, I should not be panicking."
"Relax, Em. At least you now know that the task is dragons. Now you know what spells to teach Harry. And don't worry about me, I've got all the spells and knowledge to defeat dragons." He said rubbing my arm. I nodded and took deep breaths.
"Okay, okay." I shook my head. "So now what? We know what the task is, you said you're prepared, now what?" I asked.
"That's a good question." He said. We sat in silence for a little while thinking of what to do. After a while, he closed the book, put it on the shelf, and took my hand. "Let's take a nighttime walk around the castle. We can use it to calm both our nerves." He offered. I got up and followed him out of the library. "Let me take you somewhere." He said. We walked around the castle, and soon we were outside.
Cedric's POV
I took Emily outside to the black lake.
"We are officially at the black lake," I said. "Would you like to take a walk and talk?" I asked her. She nodded and took my hand.
"So...I don't know much about your family. Care to tell me a bit of things?" I questioned.
"Well...I'm 15, you know that. I have two siblings. I have a little sister who's 8. Her name is Harley, and she's turning 9 in January. I also have a younger brother. His name is Cameron, and he's 6. Cameron is such a sweetheart, but Harley is the complete opposite. My mum works for the ministry in the Department of Transportation, along with my dad. They've been working at the ministry for 6 years, believe it or not." She laughed. I love her laugh. There's something about it that makes me happy and makes me forget about all my worries. "That's pretty much it. What about you?" She asked me.
"Well my mum is a stay-at-home mum, and my dad works at the ministry as well. I'm an only child, which I find a bit upsetting. Sometimes I wish I had a sibling to hang out with. Or even a pet." I confessed.
"Siblings can be a pain in the arse though. I've only thought about getting a pet once. My mum is allergic to cats, so we obviously can't get a cat. I don't mind though because I'm not a cat person. Harley wants a hamster and Cameron wants a snake. A snake! Out of all the pets he chose a snake. Why not a dog?" She wined. I chuckled at her little rant.
"Mum talked about having a farm. Dad didn't like the idea, but I didn't mind. They eventually settled on not getting farm animals because it's too much responsibility and we'd need more land." I said. She nodded and looked down at her watch.
"As much as I'd love to continue staying out here with you, we have to go back to the castle. Curfew is in five." She said. We turned around and walked back to the castle. Our walking slowly turned into running because we couldn't afford to be extremely late. We reached the castle and walked around the halls, trying to dodge the perfects that were on night duty.
"Well we're officially twenty minutes late for curfew," I stated.
"I don't mind. I enjoyed the time we had tonight." She said as we stopped walking, and stood in front of the Gryffindor common room.
"Really?" I asked. "I just took you to the black lake." I laughed.
"And it was so fun." She exclaimed. "Really, Cedric, I loved getting to know you." She looked down to the ground. I smiled and she looked back up at me. She got on her tiptoes and kissed my cheek. "Thank you. I'll see you later, Ced." She gave the fat lady the password and walked inside the common room. The heat rose to my cheeks quicker than ever. I took my hand and touched my cheek, rubbing the place she kissed me. I shook my head and bit my lip. Merlin, I love her.
