Currently, I am heading back home to the Outer Banks after spending a delightful month with my dad in Tennessee.

Although I had a great time with him, there were a few things that I missed, such as my mom, the beach, and most importantly, my boyfriend, Rafe Cameron. We have been in a loving relationship for ten months, and he never failed to shower me with affection. He is undeniably the best partner one could ever wish for.

I have a surprise planned for Rafe. I am returning home one day earlier than expected, and I will go straight to his house as soon as I unpack.

The thought of seeing him again fills me with excitement, and my foot pushes the pedal a bit harder to bring me home faster, into his loving arms.

Upon parking my car in the driveway, I spotted my mom eagerly waiting for me on the porch. I barely had time to leave the car before she approached me with open arms and hugged me tightly.

"Honey, I missed you so much! How was your trip?" she questioned me with an anxious tone.

"It was great, Mom," I replied as I returned the hug with a smile.

"Why are you home early? Did your father say something to you?" She pulled away from the embrace to gaze into my eyes.

"No, Mom. I came back early to surprise Rafe," I answered, the excitement of seeing my boyfriend spread across my face.

My mother's face softened as a smile spread across her lips. "Well, that's really sweet of you." She walked to the trunk to assist me with my luggage.

After unpacking, I tossed my dirty clothes into the washing machine and straightened my appearance. I headed into the kitchen to inform my mother that I was heading to the Cameron's house. Then, eagerly, I hopped into my car and drove towards Tannyhill, excited to see Rafe after facetiming every night I was away.

While on my way, I made a pit stop at Rafe's favorite donut shop, where I picked up his beloved dozen donut holes.

As I pulled into the driveway, an unfamiliar car caught my eye. Ward and Rose were both out of town on business trips, and Wheezie and Sarah were out having a girls' day, so I couldn't fathom whose car that was parked outside.

Assuming Rafe had a friend over, I tried to ease my worries and assured myself. In an attempt to look perfect, I pulled down my car mirror and fixed my hair before reapplying my lip gloss.

After packing my mirror, I got out of my car and headed towards the front door.

I opened my bag and rummaged around for the key that Rafe had gifted me earlier in the summer.

Upon finding it, I inserted it into the lock and unlocked the handle. Before opening the door, I knocked politely.

To my surprise, Rafe was nowhere to be seen when I entered, but I guessed he might have been in his room upstairs.

So, I headed up the stairs, and as I approached the third step, I stumbled over a hot, fiery, red pump. Glancing down, I realized they weren't mine.

Although I tried to come up with any excuse for that shoe's presence, I couldn't shake the thought that it implied unfaithfulness.

Despite being in complete denial, I continued up the stairs and down the hallway towards Rafe's room, where clothes were scattered everywhere. I finally reached the door and took a deep breath before slowly turning the knob and pushing the door open.

My mouth went dry, my eyes burnt, and my chest ached as I witnessed the sight before me: the man I loved was lying naked in bed with an unknown woman. Rafe quickly sat up, trying to speak, but no words came out. As the girl jumped out of bed, taking the sheets with her to cover herself up, Rafe breathlessly spoke, "Babe, I can explain."

As tears started gushing down, I turned around, unable to look at him. Rafe quickly ran after me, catching my forearm. "Don't touch me," I sneered as I jerked my arm away. "I came home early to surprise you, okay? But you obviously don't deserve this!" I threw the bag of donut holes I had gotten for him.

"But I love you," he cried, tears streaming down his face.

"No, you don't," I laughed humourlessly. "I'm leaving."

"Please don't leave. I don't have anyone. Please," Rafe selfishly yelled with a sudden outburst of rage.

"Rafe, you're scaring me!" I cried out.

Rafe continued to scream and cry, trying to guilt me into staying with him and acting like the victim. I couldn't bear it any longer, and I broke down, sliding down the wall, and crying on the ground while struggling to breathe.

I felt Rafe later sit next to me, but I didn't feel like acknowledging his presence until he grabbed my face and forced our lips to meet. I immediately pushed him away, and he cockily asked, "You liked that, didn't you?"

"I did not," I vehemently denied, looking down at my feet, wondering if he needed mental help.

His mood changed suddenly, and he smirked, "Hm, then why can't you look me in the eyes?"

"You need help," I told him as I stood up off the ground and ran down the stairs.

"I need you! You're all I have!" he cried after me.

I stopped and turned around, looked him dead in the eyes, and said, "You should have thought about that before you scratched the itch by sleeping with another girl while I was away."

I walked out the door and drove away, doing my best to forget about the boy who gave me the best days of my life.

However, something else was happening, something I didn't want or need to be a part of, not after he hurt me like that. For now, I'm just going to focus on healing.
