CHAPTER THREE

[ MEETING JAX NOVOA ]

      EMBER CLIMBS UP to her feet and brushes herself off, the guys brown eyes never removed themselves off of Ember and watched her every move. She swings her eyes up and the two locked eyes. Ember withdraws her eye contact and looks down only to realize that she was now wearing a blank tank top with some black jeans.

''Excuse me,'' the guy coughed. ''do you need me to repeat my question?''

''Look, bub,'' ember responds bitterly, shooting a nasty scowl at him. ''I'm here to learn how to use my powers.''

''Use your powers?'' he gaped. ''What are you talking about? People are usually sent because of rebelling against the Realm. That's why it's called Rebel Boot Camp,'' he emphasized with his fingers. ''I don't get why a beginner got sent here.''

A cloud of gas suddenly appeared in between the two. Ember coughs and fans away the gas. When she got full vision, she saw an odd man with crazy hair and purple goggles placed upon his forehead. He was staring at Ember with broad eyes.

''You must be Ember!'' he exclaimed, clapping his hands together joyfully. Ember slowly nods her head, beginning to feel uneasy. ''Yes yes, Desdemona sent you here, right?''

''Okay, Agamemnon, what is going on?'' the guy asked in confusion. ''She said that she was sent here to learn how to use her powers.''

Agamemnon turned and faced the guy with his hands still clasped together. ''Yes, yes, that is correct,'' he nodded in confirmation. ''and guess who's going to be her teacher!''

Ember gasped. ''Purple goggles please don't say that it's-''

''Ding ding ding!'' he cheered, tapping his nose three times with his finger. He turned back around and faced Ember. ''Ember, meet Mr. Novoa,'' he introduced, pointing at him. ''Jax Novoa may I say.''

''You've got to be kidding me,'' jax complained, throwing his hands over his face. ''why her?''

''You do want your powers back, don't you Mr. Novoa?''

Agamemnon snapped his fingers and appeared in his hand was a small bottle filled with white powder. Ember quirked an eyebrow and examined Jax's face, it somehow turned into a desperate looking expression. Jax nodded sternly.

''Yes, I do sir.''

''Good,'' he snapped his finger and the small bottle disappeared. ''now, since you are now going to be Ember's new teacher that means that you will be sharing a room together, don't worry there is a bunk bed.''

Ember wasn't fond about that idea, and the look from Jax's face said he wasn't either. Ember didn't know what it was about Jax, but ever since she arrived, he wasn't quite the nicest to her. Ember could feel the coldness from Jax's stare on her and it was making her severally uncomfortable.

''Well now that you two have officially met,'' agamemnon reached into his back pocket and got out a large megaphone. He faced Jax and pressed his lips onto the speaker and yelled, ''let's get back to work!!''

The day of constant torture and physical activity had finally come to an end and it left Ember in complete agony. It was ten o'clock at night and time for the students to head to bed. Ember had remembered she had to share a room with Jax, somebody who didn't rub her the right way. Ember sat down in the weight lifting room and watched everybody depart into their rooms.

Ember hadn't seen Jax yet but she was pretty sure if he saw her that he would drag her to his room. Ember knew that she wasn't very good at using her powers quite yet, but if it meant that she could avoid sharing a room with Jax, she would take the chances. Ember thought up a quick spell and rose her finger in the air.

''It would be quite the miracle if I could turn myself invisible!''

She snapped her finger and pointed at herself. The usual gust of wind came and she immediately knew that she was invisible. She was about to cheer out loud for her accomplishment until she saw Jax walk into the room. Ember covers her mouth with her hand and held her breath. Jax looked around the room with his eyebrows furrowed angrily. Agamemnon suddenly appeared next to him, startling Jax.

''I don't know where she is Agamemnon,'' jax yelled, obviously distressed. ''I looked everywhere and she's nowhere in sight.''

Agamemnon released a long sigh of exasperation. He touched him on the shoulder and Jax jumped from a small shock that he sent him. Ember wanted to laugh, but she kept her mouth shut.

''What was that for?''

''I gave you the ability to cast one spell,'' agamemnon answered. ''but please only use that spell to retrieve Ember and get her to get into your room. Because I am very certain she is just avoiding you because she does not want to sleep with you in your room.''

''You got that right,'' ember thought to herself. ''that's sort of weird how he knew that though.''

''Okay, I'll go to my room and I'll cast it there,'' jax nodded. ''goodnight sir.''

Agamemnon nodded to Jax and whooshed him out of the room. Jax went into his room and closed his door. Ember smiled and began walking towards somewhere, a few seconds into her little walk she felt that gust of wind and she was suddenly in a bedroom. Unfortunately she knew that it was Jax's bedroom because she was facing Jax.

''What?!'' jax yelled, looking at his finger irritated. ''That spell had to work!''

Ember had soon remembered that she was still invisible. A smile spread across her lips as she watched Jax sit on the bottom bunk and put his head in between his hands.

''Great, now I'm never going to get my powers back,'' jax grumbled to himself. ''and all because of that girl doesn't like me.''

Embers heart softened as she saw the genuine stress that he was currently under. She sighed in defeat and spoke up.

''Jax,'' she said. ''I'm here,'' she admitted. ''unfortunately.''

Jax shot up from the top of the bunk bed. His head swerved all around the room, his eyebrows raised in surprise.

''Ember?'' jax asked. ''Where are you?''

''I'm in front of the door,'' she answered, walking to the front of the door. ''just cast a spell on me and make me visible again please.''

''I can't,'' jax said, his eyes now staring at the door. ''Agamemnon only gave me enough power for one spell. You know, the one that I cast to get you here in the first place.''

Ember exhales and lifts her finger in the air. Her face scrunches up in thought as she tried to think up of a spell that would work.

''Now that my feelings are all clear, do me a favor and make me appear!''

Ember snaps her finger and points at herself, in a few seconds she wasn't invisible any longer. Jax sighed in relief and walked up to Ember with his arms out wide.

''Whoa,'' ember denies, dodging Jax's attempt of hugging her. ''I'm not the hugging type, sorry bud.''

She gives Jax a friendly pat on the back and rushes over to the bunk bed. She sits down on the bottom bunk and lightly bounces on it.

''I call the bottom,'' she claims. ''you can have the top.''

Jax rolled his eyes and just went with it. He climbed up to the top bunk and laid on top of it. Both of the bunks were already covered with blankets and pillows. When Jax got onto the top of the bunk, it made the entire bed creak.

''Try not to crush me in the middle of the night?'' ember jokes, getting into sleeping position. ''Goodnight Novoa.''

''Hey Ember,'' jax said, completely ignoring her goodnight. Ember rolls her eyes and flips over onto her back and stares at the bottom of the top bunk bed. ''I have a question for you.''

''Go ahead, I'm not going to sleep anytime soon anyways.''

''Um,'' jax squirmed on top of his bed and laid on his back and stared up at the ceiling. ''have you ever been in love?''
